It's been a minute since getting to visit this place due to my schedule. I had guests from out of town who wanted a great breakfast spot. I did not have to think twice. We were in the care In 5 minutes headed to Renae's cafe. The food is consistently good. One of my friends did not eat meat, but she had lots to choose from. Service is above and beyond. We had Vanessa who is the best waitress in town. Never even got to half a cup of coffee and it was already filled back up. This place is very clean. It is very busy. Think neighborhood cafe busy. Okay please don't come after me on this one. My hubby and I needed our calories back after our morning workout. It was my choice to come here based on the reviews but both of us were really disappointed. First of all some items are only available certain times of the month, which was a letdown because I really wanted to have something they didn't have that day. Walking in you have to write your name down on a sheet of paper for the wait list, then you are called and taken to you table. Service is Friendly, establishment is clean and spacious for a small place. The menu offers variety. The coffee is a solid 10/10 and so is the orange juice. The food- I had the country fried steak with over medium eggs, country potatoes and biscuits and gravy. My rating for my meal was a 4/10. There was no real flavor in the gravy & the sausage they used used as umph was just savorless meat. The biscuits were bulky, tough but fresh. The fried steak lacked so much seasoning, both meat and the coating/batter. The potatoes were not steaming hot and the steak was thin and tough. My baby had the chile verde skillet and he was SHOCKED the skillet wasn't even HOT. As you can cleary see in the pictures the cheese wasn't even melted ‍ and again the skillet was cool to the touch. Chile verde has good flavor but the ordering a skillet and it being cold threw the mind off lol. Omg the salsa that they offer just tasted like tomato water, no flavor and definitely no heat. No huevo rancheros and no open face sandwich was available the day we went. I'm sorry but Idk how people are giving this place such high reviews with the vapid food they are serving. Needless to say my hubby and I will not be returning. Vanessa Was my cheerful & attentive server today. She was prompt and my meal came out quickly. I ordered the Beef dip with Ortega & Swiss cheese sandwich, Yum! A generous portion of beef with Swiss cheese and green chili is piled onto sour dough bread and grilled. Served with Au jus and very sour pickles. You have an abundant choice of sides to pick from, French fries, tots, potato salad, green salad, soup, cottage cheese or fruit. I cannot believe I have never been to this spot before. Met a friend for brunch and I cannot find a fault. We waited about 5 minutes at 10:00 a.m. Seated at a booth in the back corner. Perfection. They do not serve alcohol. No TVs. This is where you go when you want an impeccable meal, exceptional service, and quality time with people you enjoy breaking bread with. Tucked away off the Main Street is this great little breakfast place in an industrial park. It was easy to park and we didn't have a long wait to be seated. The place was very busy, it seemed like this was frequented by many regulars as they were greeted by name by the servers and the hosts. Nothing like discovering a hidden gem. I was shocked when my friend said they had the best burgers. I'd never heard of them before. Renae's Cafe is tucked away, next to a laundromat! Once you step inside, you're immediately greeted by a friendly waitress. Their building feels nice and cozy, like you're going to dine in someone's home. It really is a local favorite, because the dining area was packed. They post their specials on white boards and they always are switching it up. I ordered a burger my first time and it did not disappoint. They place the lettuce, tomato, and onions on the side, so you dress the burger yourself. I like mine with everything on it, so once assembled--it was massive! And the crinkle cut fries were amazing! On this second visit I ordered their French Dip sandwich. I've had French Dips from other places in town and I can say that this one takes the top spot. It was huge! Side of onion rings made it that much better. Second Time Here & Ready to Go Back! This is really I think the BEST Breakfast place in town. I was partial to Old River Grill which is still good. But this place takes the cake. GREAT food! GREAT Service! The waitress staff anticipates your every need. They give you soda/tea to go when you are leaving. The Chipotle Ranch is a must if you are having fries. I would honestly eat it on anything! If you are craving clam chowder they also have the one and only Splash Cafe Chowder and they give you a little crab topping! This Monte Cristo was really good. I ate it with syrup and it was delicious. Such an odd combination but delicious! The fries were HOT and perfectly cooked. 10/10 in all areas! Will definitely be back. read more

First time here. If the baby is the one to make a comment, he is signing more because he's really enjoying the pancakes here. I ordered their special, which was the eggs and cheese with gravy on it. It came with three different kinds of meat, but I told the waitress I don't eat pork so I don't want any of the meat. Can they do it without the meat. She said yes. And then she said just cheese and the gravy? And I said yes. Little while later, she comes out and says I'm sorry, but the gravy has sausage in it and what would you like to do? She saw me look like I was gonna leave and she said The chef already made all your food, including the pancake for For the baby. So I sighed and said OK we'll just go ahead and eat here. The food isn't super spectacular but it's adequate and that's good. And when I was first ordering, I had asked how many slices of the avocado there was for the side of avocado because it was $3.50 extra. She said 1/4 of an avocado and I said wow $14 avocados... so I passed on the avocado. But then when she brought me my food, she brought me what look like half an avocado of slices on there on the house. I thought that was really, really sweet. The atmosphere is just a regular café. Husband took me for breakfast at Renae's because it was a popular spot for oil field workers. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center in Rosedale. Husband and I decided to split the Chicken Fried Steak Omelette breakfast (came with toast or biscuits and gravy) and my youngest son got the kids pancake, eggs, and sausage breakfast. I loved the unique twist to a traditional omelette with the chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak was perfectly seasoned and crispy! The omelette was fluffy and cooked to perfection. I just cut up and mixed the hashbrown and placed the mixture on toast and pure perfection! The kids breakfast was plentiful and my son enjoyed his breakfast. This place is a fantastic gem in Bakersfield, CA. So grateful for our friends who live in the area for introducing us to Renae's. First time here was about a year ago and I had some kind of spinach shrimp plate (because spinach is my favorite food). It was amazing, but this time I was feeling like having an omelette, so I went with a beans and chili omellette. Got their biscuit and gravy as the side and am pleased to announce it is like a side entree and is so delicious. The servers are friendly and plentiful. It seemed like they had the next generation of servers in there learning the ropes as summer interns from high school. All were smiling and very quick with refills. The restaurant is hidden away in a strip center, and you'd never guess such a happening breakfast/lunch establishment was there. It's like stepping into a diner once you open the doors. And I mean that in a good way. Great atmosphere. There's a hustle and bustle to the place and the food comes out fast and hot. We are already looking forward to our return visit sometime later this year as we travel up and back on the 99 near Bakersfield. It's worth a stop. You won't be disappointed. read more

We really got good service with our food and servers both. The food was as good as they said it would be, and I love adding new restaurants to my travels. I honestly wouldn't have found this gem without the word of mouth of friends that visit regularly, so I'm grateful for their advice. The French toast was awesome here. It was crispy, savory, and sweet! Getting the order of 4 slices, without the combo was plenty of food in itself. I still had leftovers! The French toast didn't even need the syrup tbh, which tells you how tasty it was. Service wise it needs a little work this time, our server just didn't have a great attitude. Maybe she was having a bad day and was fed up, but either way she was a little rude and times and it was not fun. There are no tvs in here which I like a lot! It forces you to pay attention to each other! I like how open it is, the location is a bit random but it makes it a quaint family owned business! The restaurant is warm cozy and inviting. Food is hot and delicious. They all work as a team to provide beyond excellent service. We highly recommend eating here. We headed out to the Rosedale area to look for parts, always a difficult task. ;) We check the Yelp app for a restaurant we had not tried yet. When we came across Renae's Cafe, we hit the "Get Directions" button. This place is tucked away of Meaney, just north of Rosedale and west of Fruitvale. There's plenty of parking. It was noon, and we expected the place to be busy. It was, but the wait was short and we had ourself a booth. My wife got a hot tea, and it was lemonade for me. The server was pleasant and quick with our drinks. After a few more minutes, a server came by and took our order for fish and chips. I describe this place as a Bakersfield cafe. It was bustling with locals stopping by for lunch and work crews coming in for some good food. You immediately feel at home here. The place was clean, and the tables were well-stocked with condiments. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. The fish was tasty and tender. There was a healthy portion of fries (sounds like an oxymoron to me, but you get the idea). The tartar sauce wasn't fancy, but it complimented the fish well. I had always wanted to try this place and we finally got the chance to try it and it was great. Price point, I would say it's a little high, but what place isn't. The staff was super attentive, with taking orders and drink refills. It definitely is a local spot. We split the Philly Sando and the Pastrami Burger. The tots are probably one of the best sides with onion rings a close second. The Reese's pie was freshly made and was super refreshing, not being to sweet at all. This place is a hidden gem on Meany. Definitely want to try their breakfast. If you are staying from out of town or looking for a new regular breakfast or lunch spot, this place is a great option. People need to stop settling with the chain breakfast or lunch places and try a local gem like Renae's. read more

My experience there was top notch. Staffs were the best. I've observed them throughout my time there. And I have to say, I've never been in a restaurant where everyone worked together as a team. Everyone got each other's back. No customer waited more than a minute or two to be served. Food was amazing. I had the rib eye with eggs. The cook cooked my steak perfect. Perfect char, perfect temperature. I will need to go there when I am in town. Spoke with the owner of the cafe and made sure she knew how amazing her staffs are. read more

Went to Renee's for breakfast yesterday for my son's birthday and we ordered the chicken fried steak skillet and my other son had a breakfast sandwich the Chicken fried steak skillet was not good. You couldn't see the chicken fried steak because it was smothered in scrambled eggs, cheese, and the chicken fried steak had been cut up in small pieces. There was no flavor to the gravy that was supposed to be on it. We had a biscuit on the side no flavor to that and then my son's breakfast sandwich was Texas toast with a huge amount of scrambled eggs in the middle and American cheese it's just not what we expected. Flavor wise it was really good, it was piping hot when she brought it to the table so it was fresh off the grill. Wish it had some spice level to it but there was none. However I did enjoy it, also had a side of biscuit/gravy, gravy had good flavor and the biscuit was on point. Had breakfast with the wife this morning. I had a simple breakfast with eggs sausage, hash browns and toast. Let me tell you that simple breakfast was fantastic! I don't really ever leave a post or comment, however I was amazed on not only the service but the quick turnaround time of the meal.. my meal was dare I say freaking perfect!!
