This place is simply the best and is a regular stop for us, not because it's near us, but because the food is high quality, sauces are outstanding and the service remarkably friendly always. It's kind of unassuming when you see it in from the parking lot, it's larger than I thought it would be and I expected it would be more of a fast food place before I went in, but it's actually a full service restaurant with booths, beer and wine. I adore this place!! I went a couple weeks ago and the waiter was super friendly. I love the environment since it is clean and the decorations makes it feel like "home". We ordered quite a lot of dishes so I was able to try a little bit of everything. For reference, we got the papaya salad, tom yum chicken, crying tiger, sweet rice mango, spicy eggplant chicken, pad thai chicken, drunken noodle shrimp, spicy eggplant beef, and bbq pork fried rice. My favorites were the papaya salad, sweet rice mango, and pad thai chicken. The salad tasted super fresh and had so much flavor. The pad thai had a lot of chicken and thankfully it was not spicy. Last but not least, the sweet rice mango was the best part. The sticky rice was perfectly made with a coconut drizzle on top and they gave a large amount of the mango. I highly recommend coming here! Absurd service. I've gone here several times and it is always slow. Today, we sat down at 6:20 for two people. I love this place. It's great food but inflation is crazy. Fresh rolls with beef are +$2.00 totaling to around $17 and for only two three pieces of meat... awhile back it used to be normal price for all fresh rolls. Little gem in Lake Forest! This place is awesome, especially for lunch. They have their lunch specials which has decent portion size. I came here with a coworker to get lunch and man there were busy. We could have guessed it by the amount of cars outside in the lot. There's plenty of parking here too so no worries about wasting your time getting your car situated. While my colleague was ordering the chicken eggplant, I took noticed of their pad see ew on Yelp. Man it was such a great choice. Noodle had the charred flavored with a right amount of veggies and proteins. *Be sure to request the spice tray!* That'll give you a little heat to the dish. They complementary soup with vermicelli noodle was a nice touch too. I had to pack half of my plate to-go since it was way too much food. Came here with some coworkers for lunch because they recommended it. I'm a fan of thai food so I was in. At my coworker's rec, I ordered the crying tiger. I'm not sure why the tiger is crying because it tasted good, but who knows? The entree was delicious. The meat was extraordinary and the soup and salad it came with was a great compliment to the meal. Service was pretty good, we received our orders in a good amount of time and didn't have any issues with the check. Overall I'd recommend if you haven't been here. this is written on behalf of my aunt and nephew, who do not have Yelp accounts but who were so upset by the awful treatment they received they've asked me to convey their thoughts. This incident transpired before Covid 19. Shame on Spice Thai for inattentive, rude, and inconsiderate service. I would give this place zero stars if we could, for absolute mediocrity and pabulum employees. My 60 year old aunt picked up my 4 year old nephew from preschool and they decided to stop here for lunch. Upon arrival, they were shown to a corner table and promptly forgotten. No servers or staff came by to offer water or menus or take orders. My aunt tried flagging down several staff members and was ignored. Any restaurant knows better than to ignore hungry patrons, much less a grandma and her young grandson who just wanted to enjoy some satay and noodles. Meanwhile, other patrons were getting greeted, offered drinks and had their orders taken, were served their food, and left. My aunt and nephew waited patiently for 30 minutes before getting up and leaving. No one asked them if they were okay or tried to stop them. The place was not full. There were easily enough waitstaff to serve every person in the restaurant. Congratulations on being awful, Spice Thai, you have earned the ire of our entire family, and we will definitely never set foot in your restaurant. read more

This place is my number one spot for Thai food, but mainly for their one dish. Crying Tiger. I've had the crying tiger at a lot of different places but everyone else's pales in comparison to Spice Thai. It's perfectly tender and the sauce is a great mix of spicy and tangy. Even after enduring the 25 minute drive home it still tasted great! Their curry is fine, pretty on par with other places but nothing special. I did really like their Tom Yum Soup. It was just the right amount of spicy and had really good flavor. At this time in quarantine, it really matters to me that they have online ordering. Not everyone is comfortable on the phone so I really appreciate the feature. I've been coming here for the last 5-6 years even though Irvine has it's own choice of Thai food. First time here We came here for a lunch date on a week day before noon. The lunch meal items come with a soup and salad (Dine in only). I think any place that has you walking out with hair that has the lingering scent of a charcoal bbq is a good place to go to! We ordered: -Crying Tiger $11.95 (Prime-Cut Beef charcoal broiled served with spicy lime sauce) It kind of reminded me of Korean BBQ flavors. I like the charcoal flavor. It was hearty and was perfect with my brown rice (it comes with white rice but add $1.00 and you get a nice healthy balance) -Pad Thai was good, standard served nice hot/somewhat sweet, just how I have had it at other Thai restaurants. I didn't notice an appetizer menu, so I think they have a Lunch Only menu. I noticed that after 12 pm, it was more difficult to find seating because it is a small restaurant. Don't forget to ask for the carousel of chilies/chili in fish oil/picked jalapeños. I would come back. The waitresses seem to be pretty diligent and can expedite orders. read more

Before COVID this was my favorite place for Thai food, so yesterday I took a few good friends for lunch, bragging about how wonderful this place is. First let me tell you how embarrassing it was after we sat down and waited, and waited, and waited for a glass of water. The waitress/manager was so rude and kept us waiting even longer to take our order. The a crying Tiger was my favorite, so a few of my friends order the same. Spice Thai has been around seems like forever. Tiny kitchen, great food. Try the Thai Beef, (Crying Tiger), the Panang curry is also excellent. The green papaya salad prepared spicy will absolve you all sins. Also if you have it spicy it will perform the absolution the next morning at speed. The restaurant was until recently owned by a master thai chef, (there used to be a picture of her receiving her credentials from the king of Thailand on the wall), but it is now passed on to a daughter who has learned her craft well. Have never had a bad dish. Great staff. The only odd thing is that to access the restroom you must traverse the kitchen, prep areas and dishwashers to get to it. It's a hurried walk what with the green papaya salad re-arranging the furniture in your colon and all, but it's kinda like that scene in Good Fellas except you are not on your way to a table up front, and you will find that the seating when you arrive at your destination a little cold. Ordered several items but will only mention a few as I didn't want to try all entrees we ordered. Tom yum soup and pineapple curry were so salty. Our salad did not come with any dressing. I absolutely love this place. The food is incredible and authentic. I've been waiting for them to re-open dine-in after COVID, and even with all the phone orders, delivery orders, pick up orders, and other tables, the service is immaculate. When we went here a few weeks ago just after they re-opened there was one woman running the front of house and she did amazing. She is always very friendly and diligent. I got the coconut soup and it got better and better with each bite, so decadent and delicious. My boyfriend orders the pad see-ew every time and is always satisfied with the portion size and dish itself. When I first started with my company (nearly 3 years ago), there was a Spice Thai Express in a nearby food court where I would LOVE to go to for lunch. I loved it so much until one day a different Thai place took over and all of the food I had love disappeared without a trace... It was so difficult to search for Spice Thai since there is that Spicy Thai chain all over the place, but I finally found it!!!!!!! Yayyyy!! One day I was feeling sick so I decided to head here after work under the theory that the soup and spices will help me rid myself of the congestion. Despite being alone, I still ordered everything I wanted. SMALL TOM YUM SOUP ($7.95) I never ordered this at the food court express location but I was sick so I thought it would be good for me. This sweet and sour soup comes with chicken, carrots and mushrooms in a broth that is infused with lemongrass, lime juice and chili. I feel like the soup was a bit on the pricey side considering that there was not a lot of chicken inside. I also felt that it would benefit from more lemongrass. I probably won't order this again here. GREEN CURRY ($9.95) When the Green Curry first came I felt like it LOOKED different, but after tasting it I knew it was the same as the Green Curry I had fell in love with years ago. This dish came with chicken and bamboo shoots in a coconut milk, basil and chili sauce. I wish the sauce was a bit thicker because it was very runny but the taste is definitely on point. SIDE ORDER OF WHITE RICE ($1.50) Okay... When I'm ordering curry as an entree at any other place they give me rice with it. This is the only place to ever ask if I want to get a side order of white rice to go with it. I can care less about the $1.50 but it's more about the concept of the situation that annoys me slightly. CRYING TIGER ($11.99) Ohh the tears of joy!! I used to get the crying tiger salad for lunch all of the time!! This place has it as an entree where a hefty amount of charbroiled prime cut beef is marinated and served with a thai herb salad and a spicy lime sauce. It was so delicious. This dish is actually BETTER than I remembered. The meat was so much more succulent and well marinated compared to when I had it at the express location. This was a positive surprise!!! I clearly LOVE the food and if the service was relatively nice or even just okay I probably would have rounded this experience to a 5 star, but it wasn't. The guy working here was so grumpy and irritated, it was definitely killing my incredibly good mood. This is what happens when someone gets lazy -- namely ME! I have all the ingredients to make what I had today at Spice Thai, but of course, instead of coming home to make it, I was lazy and decided to eat out instead. C'mon, I mean, this place is virtually packed at lunch time and I had to wait for a table, so I gathered it MUST be good right? WRONG! I debated between the green curry chicken or the Crying Beef for a long time before settling for my favorite dish of gaeng khiew-waan (green curry with chicken). A bowl of complimentary soup arrived -- very weird tasting. Its goal was some sort of tom yum, but it lost its way somewhere. It was not sour enough and had a strange sweetness to it. I immediately started to regret ordering the green curry fearing that it would arrive on the sweet side. When my main course arrived, I was quite excited. It looked rather good. I took a taste of the sauce and found that it was indeed too sweet. WAY too sweet. I was disappointed. I motioned for the server to bring me some nam pla prik (chilis in fish sauce). Not only did my dish need some saltiness but also, some heat. I couldn't detect any heat in this green curry at all. The nam pla prik arrived, but instead of the traditional Thai birds eye chilis, I couldn't tell if they used jalapenos or serrano chilis. It had a little heat, but just didn't cut it. I had to use a lot -- almost the entire jar and with a few dashes of the fish sauce, my green curry was somewhat palatable. I ended up eating just the chicken and bamboo shoots and leaving all the sauce since most of the flavor was in the sauce and I felt like I was eating something resembling a dessert more than a curry. I guess I should've just ordered the Crying Tiger. This place reminds me of Thai Specialty 2 in Tustin except it was a lot more expensive. Mine was the lunch special and while at Thai Specialty 2 it was $6.95 for lunch specials, my lunch special was $8.95. After tax and tip it was over $10. So disappointing and now I'm left wanting some decent green curry. I guess I'll have to get my lazy ass up and into the kitchen and whip up some. read more

There's a Thai place right near me and I didn't know about it? What's up with that? How sad is that? Want to know something even worse? I've been living here for 2 years and I didn't know about it. Thanks to Yelp, I'm now getting better at exploring my neighborhood. So this Thai place is located in the Albertsons shopping center and it's not that big, but I heard it does get crowded at dinner. The decor is decent. Lots of Thai type art on the wall and glass tables. The walls are lined with booths and we got one in the back. There was a table near the front that got very loud during the course of our meal. Maybe they were drunk? But anyway, before leaving the lady in the group decided to tell everyone that we didn't want to know what had just happened in the bathroom. A male companion had been with her. Yeah, we really didn't. Maybe I won't eat here past 8. Mental note. We settled for the Chicken Pad Thai, Crazy Cashew Chicken, and the the Veggie Curry with Chicken. We chose the veggie curry and added Chicken because we all love veggies and the the Chicken Curry only has potatoes and chicken. We like options and lots of them. I started off with my traditional Thai iced tea and was disappointed to learn it was made with half and half instead of condensed milk. I don't know if I'll be having Thai iced tea again. A real Thai iced tea should be made with condensed milk. Oh well. Our food was great. I should really dock a star because when we asked for more rice, the waitress nodded at us, but continued with her sweeping and only when she was done did we get our rice. And after the check came we noticed the wait staff was busy eating out in the open (which is not allowed at any restaurant due to OSHA guidelines) and did not bother to take our check until my friend coughed loudly to get their attention and even then they looked bothered. Did they not want repeat business? I'm not sure but I hope that changes soon because I'd love to come back here but the service really needs to improve. read more
