I was excited to see Spice Waala come to Ballard, without even visiting their Cap Hill location. I was right to be excited. Both the paneer and aloo wraps are so well flavored. They were spicy, though not too much to deter my heat-averse husband. The portion was so reasonable and fit well with the price. The sides were such a fun way to try new dishes. I'd never had khel puri and it's become a fast favorite. Plus, you gotta love that Indian food offers so many vegetarian options. Pro Tip: Keep an eye on what day you're looking to order, as they were closed Sunday through Tuesday. There might also be a (well worth it) 30+ minute wait. read more

Here is what I got: Chicken Tikka roll- good, spicy and plenty of chicken, need more onions and some sort of crunch. Bread seemed like tortillas not roti. Maybe consider parhatas! Papdi chaat- really good! Love the sauces! Maybe consider tamarind sauce and add more chick peas, I only got like few pieces of it. I was on my lunch time walk in Ballard and my friends raved about Spice Waala, so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered the Lamb Kebab Roll and it was so good! With each bite you can taste the wonderful flavor combinations of the spices and lamb wrapped in a light roti bread. I noticed a couple of people ordered the Masala Aloo, which looked like a nice compliment to the roll. After a 5 minute wait I walked back home and devoured the roll! (sorry I forgot to take a photo - I was so hungry) I plan on returning to try the Kathi Roll Chicken Tikka, the Masala Aloo and sneak in a soft serve! Great Indian street food at affordable prices and all within a 10 minute walk - you can't beat that!!! read more

Friend took us here at about 2 on a Saturday, it's a small sparse shop that keeps things simple and really fast. We all tried a few different menu items and everything was great- we did leave pretty quick as they close at 2:30pm that day. The chai and the Mango Lassi weren't very popular with our crew but the food items were definitely worth it! There's pay by phone parking for like 25cents for a half hour if you plan to stay a while or you could stop at one of the 30min load and unload spaces around that block if you're taking out. read more

Amazing food at amazing prices!! Absolutely love their Kathi rolls. My favorite is the lamb kathi roll. Make sure you get it "Calcutta style" with egg. Other favorites include: The Chana Chaat and the Aloo Tikki Chaat. Note: for some odd reason, the Chana Chaat does not show up as an option in apps like door dash or grub hub, but you can call n order. Not the largest burrito you'll find (I needed to eat two because I was very hungry) but very very very tasty. The chicken one was a solid 5 stars easily, eliciting many content noises from us both. I recommend getting the egg add-on. Also get a side of yogurt if you're sensitive to spice. The lamb wrap was also good but a notch down for sure, more 3 stars. I've reviewed their first location on Capitol Hill but have been coming more to Ballard recently. It's a bright, unassuming cafe with great service and outstanding food. I usually get the chicken kathi roll, the chai and either the chana chaat or the aloo tikki chat. The food is just so darn good and flavorful. They don't try and do everything, but have picked a few items that are really outstanding. Spice Waala is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. If I lived closer, I'd probably eat here a couple times a week. read more

I will say the food tastes great here! I got 2 of the rolls. My only reason for 4 stars is that the portions are a bit small. I needed a minimum of 2 rolls to feel satisfied and it came out to over $18. Also most of their food is spicy, just a heads up for those without a high tolerance. read more

Spice Waala is great food for what you're paying! I had a paneer kathi roll and a papdi chaat, and I enjoyed both. The kathi roll was delicious, hot, fresh, and well-stuffed. The papdi chaat was good, but just fyi, they are served cold because they're topped with quite a lot of yogurt. The restaurant itself is small and clean, and the staff is really nice. I love this place. I have been a couple times and everything is delicious. The portion size of the wraps is perfect and it's nice to have something of this quality and flavor that is affordable. My fiancé and I placed an order on their website for dinner on Friday night. We ordered the lamb kathi roll, a chicken tikka roll, two orders of fries, extra chutneys, and mango lassis. We placed the order at about 6pm and we're quoted it would be ready by 7:30. That's a really long wait even for a Friday night but we were willing to give it a shot having read the great reviews. There were about 7-8 other people when we rolled up for our pickup, but we could clearly see all employees wearing masks and the restaurant itself is set up well for social distancing. The kathi rolls look small but had plenty of meat in each of them. Super delicious. I think we both preferred the brown chutney over the green one - the green was a little bitter for our tastebuds. I'd definitely order an extra brown chutney next time. Unfortunately, they only gave us one of the two orders of fries which we only realized once we arrived home with our orders. But tbh, the fries were just ok - not very crispy and really needs the brown chutney. I'm guessing they forgot the orders given how busy they've been. I'd recommend giving this place a try! The kathi rolls and mango lassi are so delicious. Do yourself a favor and get the brown chutney. read more

These guys are so fast and the food is really fresh tasting and yummy. For two people we usually order one "roll" each and one side dish type of item. After many many orders from spice waala the rolls are still delicious and consistent! I was super excited that they opened up in my neighborhood and they did not disappoint! The chicken roll with egg is my go to! I don't really like rolls without egg- so I would recommend everyone to add egg to the roll :) one recommendation I would have for spice waala is to have egg by default and then allow people to remove it! This is our go to Indian take out place in Seattle. The roll is perfect and reminds us of Kathi roll we used to get in India. Chai with Parle G is another reminder of home. I loved the food here! Was a bit surprised to see that it's fairly small, and they have a limited menu as well. But I got a aloo wrap and it was delicious!! The spices were wonderful and it had great flavor. We also got their version of fries. Some of the best seasoned fries I've had. They were super filling and could probably be a whole meal by themselves. Smells super good in there too. Not your traditional Indian place. They definitely break the mold. I came in today and ordered 1 each of the chicken and lamb kathi rolls as well as the Aloo Tikki Chaat. Both were super delicious and I reaaaallllly enjoyed the tikki chaat. Used Door dash for the first time- it basically makes their food double the price. (Not affecting this rating, not Spice Waala's fault. Note to folks to order and pick up themselves if possible.) Aloo wrap- So, so delicious. I was afraid it would become one note with so much potato, but instead it had this lovely soft inside and crispy exterior of each potato cube. Highly recommend! 5/5 Paneer wrap- This one didn't impress me, lovely seasoning but the paneer is scrambled to the point it semi reminded me of baby food. Also wasn't a fan of the large raw chunks of bell pepper inside. 2/5 Last note- these wraps look small and after eating you may consider more food. But wait a bit for the deliciousness to settle into your stomach, and it was more than enough. read more

Indian food at it's best is exhilarating. Spice Waala delivered on this. The spices in my chicken tikka Kathi Roll felt as if they were dancing on my tongue. This may be a cliché, nonetheless this description is spot on. My order of channa chaat was made with freshly prepared chick peas bathed in second to none green chutney. Chai was enlightening as it was not at all sweet as I am accustomed to. No more Starbucks chai ever again. Especially loved how the stage was set with rose incense near the door and an Anthony Bourdain quote about the cultural importance of street food. An excellent experience. read more

I really wanted to enjoy this place to its fullest. For the most part the food is pretty good. I got a chicken lamb wrap and the flavor for both of those were great. I also ordered the aloo Tikka chaat because it looked good from the photos. But to drive back home and open a box to a ball of sadness with no sauce to put on is really dissapointing. I thought it was possible the sauces would already be put on it as seen in the photo but there was just nothing. Kind of soured the experience here since everything else was good. Edit: Uttam here is super helpful and addressed my concerns right away. The customer service here is impeccable and probably one of the best! And for that alone I have changed my review before I have returned to this place again. read more

Everything I've had is incredibly tasty. You can't go wrong with a kathi roll with a chana chaat on the side! Rolls aren't the most filling so definitely recommend a side if you've got a bigger appetite. Saw that spice waala opened in Ballard and had to try it out. As someone who spent 12 weeks in India, Indian food has a special place in my heart. Spice waala was no disappointment and was surprisingly busy for a Friday lunch. Food came out in a timely fashion and I have to say-- the tikka rolls are the perfect size. We did the aloo ones. I expected them to be good, but they surpassed all expectations. Next time I want to try the chicken one. I typically get an alloo roll alongside a chicken or lamb roll. Food aside, spice waala is also a well-run business.
