I've only tried their food via takeout but I really like it. Seems like an authentic spot. Not mind blowing but I will continue to grab food from this restaurant.

Ate here again recently and the food was just as good! The portion sizes are huge, so definitely getting your moneys worth. I really like the pickled cabbage dishes, and the mapo tofu is delicious. They are a little slow, but the food quality is great.

Very simple restaurant but the food was very good and actually not too crazy spicy. Is in a very quiet part of town with plenty of parking. Overall a quick simple good place to get authentic Chinese food.

Great value for the price! Wonderful Chinese restaurant with an expansive menu. As the name suggests, the food here is filled with spice, but it's mostly the use of peppers in the dish, so it's not too spicy. Their ingredients are all fresh and taste that way, with high heat stir fry dishes that are imbued with flavor.

Honestly the most authentic Chinese food in Sacramento, it threw me back to China in the best possible way, nothing fancy but such good food, there's also Americanized Chinese food if your taking people who want that too! Do yourself a favor and get the desert rice cakes with soybean powder and brown rice too!!

Lunch special soup starter with peanuts. No explanation as to whether nuts were to be added to the soup or just as an additional starter.

I ordered eggplant with shredded pork. It was so comforting and delicious- flavorful without hot spiciness. If you are off out by pools of oil on the dish, I don't recommend; however, I love fat and oil and found that it added to the taste as I spooned it on my rice. Since I'm an old lady I find that I don't eat much at each meal. The remainder of this meal is enough to serve me two and possibly three more meals. This makes it quite affordable. I enjoyed the restaurant that used to occupy this space but this one is every bit as good and close by. If you're looking for tasty Chinese food and in the neighborhood please give it a try.

My go to place when I want some spicy, delicious comfort food. The staff are always so friendly and nice. Food is consistently good. I'm a big fan of their spicy crispy chicken and fish with pickled cabbage

This place has solid Chinese food Panda Express prices. The lunch specials are a great deal. You will leave fill and satisfied. Everyone enjoyed their food including our fussy Asian food expert. Solid version of hot and sour soup, good sides and very good mains. The deep fried items like orange chicken were excellent. Service was good for a place that got busier as we dined.

clean sit down chinese restaurant. Food was good! Ordered the sesame chicken lunch plate with fried rice, tripe appetizer, spicy beef noddle soup (which was different than i was going to be, so that was a 3/5), and they gave us a complimentary dessert plate at the end which was a nice surprise! would possibly return to try other items. service and ambiance was nice!

A whole lot of everything!! Very delicious food!

We stumbled in this delicious eatery after a failed attempt to eat next door! We were graciously greeted and seated. My girlfriends and I had never been in this restaurant, although I take it back because I believe this used to called Hoicin, which I had been to previously years ago! Alright now back to Spicy Temptation! We ordered a plethora of food, everything from wonton in chili oil, potstickers, chicken chow mein, beef chowfun, general tsu chicken, orange chicken, chicken fried rice and ground pork sauted in thick gravy sauce with noodles! It was ALL DELICIOUS! The ambience was chill and takes me back to when I use to go eat at Chinese restaurants as a kid with my parents! Very "homey" feel. Very clean establishment, lots of parking outside! The staff was so kind and accommodating! Everything was made to order and so fresh!

Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm, it was pretty empty with only two other groups at the time. Once seated we were quickly served our beverage orders and hot tea. The refills of water throughout the meal may not seem like a big deal but their attention is commendable. We may have ordered too many dishes for four people, but we didn't expect the portion sizes!!!! For the value - def worth the visit. You'll leave very satisfied, and with plenty leftovers. - Seafood tofu soup - lacking a bit of flavor, but nothing that soy sauce or chili oil couldn't fix - Stir fried eggplant, potato and peppers - great flavors, equal amount of ingredients. - Mongolian beef - def had a nice spicy kick. they didn't skimp out on the protein. My personal favorite - Beef chow mien - this was also a top favorite. Not too greasy and portioned well with protein - Crispy pork chop - we were expecting something different but it still met our flavor expectations. great presentation and the jalapeños and peanuts *there was a miscommunication in our order where we were served a braised pork dish. they generously comped the mistake. it had a rich flavor, but something I won't order but glad I tried. To top off our meal, we were served with fruit and cake squares. Great way to end the experience. I suspect the people working during my visit was a family trio - good people who know how to engage and ensure the customer is satisfied. I'll def be back!

We were greeted immediately as we entered and was seated at a nice spot next to the windows. They took our order and within like 10 minutes, we received our food. To say the least, the string beans was one of the best I've ever had and I would definitely be coming back just for this. The cumin lamb was super flavorful with the spicies and the onions. The portions for everything was very big. Also the spicy level was pretty tolerable, and there were also less spicy or nonspicy options. The spicy chicken was also very good and tasty. The peppers was alittle too spicy for me but they add an awesome kick to the dish and I would recommend to someone else who likes Malatang or very spicy food! It was pretty quiet inside and the servers came to check in and refill our waters regularly when it was low. One of the best Szechuan cuisines in Sacramento so far and I would definitely be coming back!!

You can taste the umami from the roe and other ingredients that I am not entirely sure are but taste familiar. I enjoyed and loved it. Mapo Tofu - Firm Tofu and good sauce. Although I do enjoy more of a Sichuan-style spicy mapo tofu (with the very numbing taste), I still found this mapo tofu delicious as you can taste the flavor of the pork and sauce coating the tofu. 2 Entree BBQ Platter: Roast Duck and Empress chicken - I'm biased towards roast duck. I love roast duck so any roast duck is good to me. Not a lot of comment on the duck. However, the Empress Chicken is nicely seasoned with the whatever broth they cooked it in. One of the few Empress Chickens where I can enjoy it without the scallion-ginger oil, but the scallion-ginger oil still elevates this Chicken to a higher level. Congee with Pork and Preserved Egg - Comforting and triggers a lot of nostalgic feelings for me. I didn't have to add too much additional soy sauce or chili sauce because the congee has a great base flavor. Preserved egg and pork weren't too chunky, rice was not too "mushy", and the overall congee was in a good thickness to create a nice mouth feel for each bite. Will visit again to try the other dishes.

Drinks aren't rated, as they don't sell house cocktails (though they sell a small selection of beers and wines). All-in-all a solid menu. The dilemma is that we generally felt unwelcome. We came by on a Sunday evening at 6:30 pm (and paid and left by 8:20 pm which is 10 minutes before closing). We were a party of 8 with diverse backgrounds, and with exception to one server (a woman wearing red who was maybe a manager), the staff just weren't friendly toward us. I will say that one woman in red was so kind. She made sure to say "bye" as we left. I will add one of my friends mistakenly tried to take a pair of chopsticks (as they are set on the table in a paper slip). She didn't realize they were store owned/reusable vs throwaway. She quickly apologized, but that became the final straw of awkwardness with the staff. The food was genuinely great with appropriate prices, so I may give it another shot down the road as a date night option.

A great spot for a solid Chinese meal--and surprisingly, an amazing banana cream pie!…read more The service was friendly overall, although our table wasn't checked on very often since it was so busy. That said, the food more than made up for it. Our favorite dish by far was the Spicy Calamari with Basil. It's something I'd absolutely come back for--the calamari was tender with a great texture, and the sweet, savory flavors paired perfectly with everything else we ordered. The Garlic Chili Green Beans were another standout. They had great flavor and still retained a nice crunch instead of being overly soft, giving them the perfect stir-fried texture. The Vegetable Chow Fun (with beef added) was decent but a little dry for my taste, so it's probably not something I'd order again. By the end of the meal we were completely stuffed, but we couldn't resist trying the banana cream pie. It looked huge when it arrived, and we honestly didn't think we'd finish it--but it was so delicious that we ended up eating the whole thing. Definitely don't skip dessert! I also appreciated that when I asked for hot sauce, they brought out several different options to try, including what seemed like a garlic chili sauce, chili crisp, hot mustard, and sweet and sour sauce. It was a fun touch that let us customize each bite. The restaurant also has a lot of history and character. We walked in casually without realizing it was a more upscale sit-down restaurant, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our day. If you go, the Spicy Calamari with Basil and the banana cream pie are absolute must-orders!

My goal is to come here during dine downtown week in January to try that menu since I hear it's worth it. For parking, it's either street parking or you can do valet parking in the garage right next door. There is no self parking in the garage. Street parking is self parking. The restaurant itself is like a long, large hallway. When you walk in, your greeted by the host desk. Then you walk towards the back and pass a bunch of booths, tables and the bar area to the right. It's built like a Craftsman style layout. When I was here recently, it was for a friend's birthday and there was a group of 10+ of us. They only do family style food so our group was split into 2 tables and each table ordered their own entrees and meals to eat family style. I was at a table of perks I had just met that night, but we had no issues sharing plates. This may not be for everyone, do you can still order your own entrees, but there won't be much variety if you don't have a lot of people. The food was good. We ordered wallet shrimp, Buddha's delight, the curry noodles/chow mein, garlic green beans and chicken chow mein. All three good was good. I would say it's above average and comparable to Din Tai Fung, but a bit cheaper. I liked the walnut shrimp, garlic green beans and buddhas delight. Service was decent. It could've been better, but could've been worse. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. I'll be back when dine downtown rolls around.

I saw a couple of other Elites dining in when I was ordering, but it was so busy I couldn't properly say hi, so "HI DAVID AND EVA!" I'll have to keep an eye out for their next review, because whatever they had looked delish! I waited in the car for a bit and then when the order still needed a few more minutes I popped into the dollar store next door to kill a bit more time. Before I knew it my order was ready to go. They packed everything really nicely and we served it up as soon as we got home. Their rice noodle rolls are so flavorful and I love the sweet, salty and savory sauce that comes with it. The noodles are really filling, and the dishes we got would be enough food for 2-4 people depending on how hungry you are. We ate the rice rolls right away and then had leftover green beans and beef and mushrooms for lunch today. The green beans were fresh and had a great garlic flavor, without it being too much. The Beef and Mushrooms was great, the beef was tender and flavorful and the mushrooms soaked up all the sauce. There were also green beans in this dish, which was a perfect addition. The food came out fast and piping hot. Pretty soon our entire table was covered with dishes. We started with the hot and sour soup, which we both felt was lacking in the flavor department. It didn't have that spicy tang that you look for when you order hot and sour soup. The potstickers were fried crispy, but the dough was a little too thick. The spicy cucumbers had no flavor to them at all. And the honey walnut shrimp was not memorable. We both felt that the two best dishes were the BBQ pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef. The beef was tender and had good flavor. The prices were extremely fair and the portions were large, but all in all this was not my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area.

Its been so bad the past decade that we decided to give it another chance. Different management, different chefs, different everything basically. The fried flounder was so fried that I could not separate the bones, not only that, you could barely get any meat out of it. Our table had nine people and they only provided 6 buns with our peking duck. I thought they didn't have enough steamer space and was going to bring more but nope. The shrimp in their salted egg pumpkin and shrimp dishes was overcooked and their deep fried pig intestines were extremely stinky. Their portion sizes downsized like crazy and it's so bad that we didn't even finish any of the dishes. The best dish was a stir fry cauliflower dish that I could make at home. It was supposed to come with pork, but I only saw itty bitty pieces of meat. The service was also super bad and slow. I was eating their fried rice and bit on a piece of broken yellow plastic with multiple sharp points. Prior to that, I was feeding my toddler the rice so THANKFULLY it didn't go to him. When we told the server, which was an older lady with glasses and bangs, she's like oh... then she took it to the kitchen and pretended that nothing had ever happened when she came back out. Shes been there for years, and I remember seeing her when we were regulars. I wasn't expecting anything, except for some accountability. I used to love this place so it's pretty sad to see how much it went downhill.... This business needs to be scrapped. The current 3 stars is giving them too much credit and it must have been due to when they used to be good, in the past.
