Finally got a decent meal at Spires! This is the most convenient place to eat for me, but the menu is really old and the food is never good. Only came in because I worked late and got up early and was too hungry to keep going. I have ordered the house omelette with veggies on the side before but it always came back overcooked and in old oil, but this place makes my dad happy... Today I got a GREAT breakfast within my nutritional goals, on price point, and the veggies were perfectly crisp. Coffee was drinkable. Spires is one of those places that is consistently middle of the road. You'll never leave thinking that you got a great meal, but you won't likely be disappointed, either. My mother and I stopped in for breakfast. I hadn't been here in probably 5 years. For once, we didn't have to wait. (Breakfast on the weekends is usually pretty busy.) We were seated in the back corner. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us good service. I ordered the lumberjack breakast. The sausage and ham were pretty good. The eggs were flabby and a little cold. My breakfast came with a waffle. It was moist and limp. I still ate it, but it wasn't the crispy delight I had hoped to get. My mother ordered a breakfast that came with a biscuit and gravy. She took one taste of her gravy and stopped eating it. I think it was flavored with bacon rather than sausage. It was "interesting." So, she didn't eat much of her biscuit. She also picked at her homefries. I was surprised to see such big chunks of potatoes in her homefries. Makes me wonder if they were cooked all the way through. A bit disappointed, menus are updated but now they no longer have a kids menu. The quality of the food isn't the same as before. Perhaps they changed cooks? Service is good as always. This place brought back memories, of the Spires I grew up by that use to be in Santa Fe Springs, many moons ago and then got torn down and new restaurants take place over it :( So we went late Sunday morning and was surprised to have been seated quickly, as Sundays are the most crowded when everyone's getting out of church or just the huge families going at that time everyone goes. It was nice. Same menu (with more choices these days), food was good, fast and service was also good. It looks small on the outside, but it does accommodate pretty well. If you ever in the mood for breakfast (or lunch/dinner/late night) food, and not in the mood for Denny's or Norm's, this is the place to go. read more

My mom likes this place. I like it too. It's more of an "old people" place but it's a nice place. I usually come here like 1-4 times a year. My last visit was for my moms birthday and everyone enjoyed their meal. She always gets the country breakfast and I get the same or the lumberjack breakfast. read more

This is a really fine diner. I had a Popeye omelet made into a scramble with home potatoes and coffee. I sat at the corner and was one of those customers that take their sweet time and it seems like they'll never leave. The thing is, I was impressed with how sweet everyone was, I just wanted to stay and soak it all in. Now the omelet/scramble was good. I wish mine had more spinach in it. The man next to me seemed to have a generous amount. And I love spinach so much! The daily homemade salsa was amazing. With all the food I was able to witness coming out of the kitchen, I'll definitely be back. This place as been around for as long as I can remember and that may just be why it's remained so popular. It's on two major streets and that could help it's status. Don't get me wrong, spires is another type of breakfast diner chains that have been around for years. However, it could use some sprucing up for sure. Plenty of parking and good prices. This place can be crowded for breakfast on the weekends for sure. The kitchen bar is one of my favorite parts of the set up. They have a stuff animal game at the entrance for the kids. I came in the other day by myself for a quick bite for breakfast. I figured this place is supposed to be better for breakfast. Prices were fair and had a good selection of items on the menu. By far the best part was the service. Paulina was awesome, hadn't seen her since high school and she did a stellar job. Super accommodating and checked up on me often. I got a standard breakfast, eggs, hash browns, toast, and coffee. Can't say the coffee was amazing, standard diner stuff. It's crazy because this place is just down the block from where I live so I would love to come by more often, I just don't. Overall I see why it's stood the test of time, loyalty. I came to this place because my cousins wanted to try something similar but different than Dennis and Ihop. It was early in the morning I believe they barely open when we got there. The food was Ok. I think I would rather to go to Dennis next time. The staff is very polite BUT (this is going to be hilarious) we all order coffee and my mug had Bright red lipstick stain on the top. Literally it was like they didn't even bother to wash it OR the lady who drank from that mug before had a Heck of a lipstick!! I've always seen clean freshly wiped tables and those waitresses really work hard to get everyone's food served. I like all of them. The prices are great. Scott's favorite is the Lumberjack Breakfast. For a big guy it's a real pleased. They get all kinds of goodies like hash browns, eggs, ham, sausage and bacon and pancakes or waffles. It's a deal! I love spires restaurant. This location is the one me and my family have been coming to for years. I love the breakfast. Great service, good deals and quality food. The staff is friendly, and very welcoming many of their employees have been there for over 10 years, so coming in is nice when you see a familiar face. I had time to kill, and I was hungry. Let me say , if I ever go to a diner I would drive here specifically for the staff at this location. The hostess that greeted very welcoming. Juanita was my waitress, and all I can say is superb! She was so friendly and accommodating. I know that I am an easy customer, but I saw her interact with the other customers and she was great! Aside from the great service, the rest of the staff was friendly too. Even the chef was smiling. In regards to the food, I had oatmeal. I know that that's not a meal to judge a review by, but I'm picky with my oatmeal. Theirs is good. This experience opened my eyes to the diner experience. This is my second time at this Spires. The first time me and family arrived was for breakfast, and that was a winner. So what happened? We arrived around after noon on a Sunday, where Norm's and even Sizzler was too overcrowded. I hate long waits, and I was starving. So I suggested to the fam that we should check out Spires, which one of us wanted Fried Chicken. I only suggested it since it is a Diner, they should have fried chicken. We get there, and we order lunch, except for Larry, he's the smart one- He ordered breakfast. I order some sandwich which is the famous Spires yada-yada sandwich- It sucked. And my poor Fiancée, she got a bland looking, tasting fried chicken. I told her if we go back, it would just be for breakfast. She won't ever come back, so there you have it. This was a random stop to fulfill a waffle craving, and the place was surprisingly busy for mid-morning on a weekday. But people kept coming, and if you saw their breakfast prices and the extra discount for seniors, then I understand why. They have fully loaded breakfast meals at a deal. My coffee cup was never empty and the service was fast. The food is good, exactly what you'd expect from a diner type place. But the service and atmosphere make this a great stop. It's not too far from LAX either, which is great for those who travel a lot for work and want a quick bite to eat. Oh no, the fryer went down. Inconvenient. We waited 45 mins before someone came to tell us about the problem. The main person affected was my Mommy. She ordered fish and the solution the staff came up with meant she couldn't get her dish, but could get the friess. I hope the fryers have been fixed since with went last Saturday. I ordered a bacon burger with onion rings. It was all good. I ordered sweet tea being the Southern girl that I am and my friend quickly alerted me on that. She said it will NOT be sweet at all.
