    French toast
    Mr S.

I pass by here all the time and the signage is classic. I always think of this intersection because of their iconic big green lettered SPIRES. Food is cozy diner American. Service is okay. But they charged for hot water. I've never been to an establishment that charged for hot water. Portions for the omelette and fruit felt small. The sausage link was meaty and the French toast was delicious. We also had to wait a while because they ran out of sourdough bread (at 10:30 am) and we finished our food before they brought us a bread. Everything else felt a bit small considering their prices were average to comparable diners. Maybe something has changed in recent years. This is the place to take grandma and grandpa. Slow and old vibe.

Solid diner food. Best I've had in a while and the price is reasonable. The vibe is clean Americana 80s with matching music. Very pleasant. Service was also on point . I'll be coming back

    BLT with fried zucchini
    Erin T.

First time at this location because the other Torrance location closed. I didn't think there would be a difference in the food since it's the same restaurant chain, but unfortunately was pretty disappointed :/ My family and I got BLTs with fried zucchini sticks. Portions were very small. The other location used to give more than 3 pieces of zucchini. The bacon, lettuce & tomato inside the sandwich were also pushed all the way to the edge of the sandwich to make it appear that it was stuffed, but there were hardly any ingredients inside. After a few bites, I was just left with lettuce & mostly bread! I expected a bigger portion due to the price, and I expected consistency with their other location! Their ranch was also super watery and lacked ranch flavor! I really think the other location in Torrance that closed was better. I hope this location changes some things!

    Daily Specials update
    Dave A.

Update of daily specials: this is a significant price increase but this is still a good deal! Service was a bit slow but it was fairly busy for a Tuesday night only one server and one busser. All three of us had the chicken fried steak special. The beef barley soup was very good. They must have noticed my soup size comment because we were served a bowl not a cup It's a better deal than the Senior menu because you have a choice of two sides instead of just one plus dessert Please help keep these clean and comfortable value restaurants open. They are slowly disappearing

    Popeye Omelette

Good place to have breakfast with ample seating. My party of 6 ordered and food was out in around 15 minutes. The servers do an excellent job coming around refilling coffees and drinks, which is super nice. My Popeye omelette was delicious; it was generously loaded with spinach, mushrooms, and onions. I didn't particularly love the way the cheese was slathered on top of the omelette (wish it was inside), but it was still delicious. The hash browns were scrumptious as well.

Great fast service, our server was very attentive. Our food came out fast, and we really enjoyed our meals! :) We definitely be back for the San Franciscan and the Tuna melt :)

I ordered a TUNA SALAD. PROS: Thank you for slicing the boiled egg. Thank you for dicing the tomatoes. (saves me time) The amount of Thousand Island dressing was good... I didn't have to ask for more. CON: Barely any tuna. (my normal spot is currently remodeling... And they have 2X the amount of tuna for $7 cheaper)

Always down for Spire's! I miss the one in Monrovia, CA. We were on our way to another restaurant near here and immediately made a U-turn to Spire's! Love their daily specials! Comes with soup, salad, 1 side and dessert! Tuesday night was chicken fried steak and they give you the option of meat! My daughter got the steak. I'm not to fond of chicken fried steak so I got the pork chops! Another great dish! The pork chops were plump, fat n juicy! The server gave us all the fixin's! They were extremely busy, which is great to see! They only had 2 servers/cashier and one cook that night, but they worked as quick as they could! Some customers were getting upset due to the wait for food, but come on... have some compassion. They are there doing their best with what they had. You always have the option to eat at home.

Chicken Breast Dinner! portions have got smaller ! not good for what you pay for!
    Raymond R.

I have been coming to eat at "Spire's" a long time and the quality and taste of the food have always been good and you always got nice sizeable portions But this last time, the chicken beast was MIA! it was a wasted $20.00 for this meal!

The food was flavorless. It tasted like old people's food. No offense, because I'm getting there. But I need a little spice in my life.

Waiters kept checking on us. Got the mild Buffalo Wings for $14 and Parmesan Fries for $6. The wings were good. The Parmesan Fries were really good, they didn't skimped on the Parmesan. The interior is neat and clean. There are various types of seating (bar; table; booth; high-tops; communal), and plenty of screens to watch sports. On this occasion, I ordered the Tavern Fish & Chips ($22). It is described as "Alaskan cod coated in a tempura beer batter and served with French fries, tartar sauce and yuzu herb coleslaw". The positives of this dish are that it was prepared well. Both the fish and chips tasted good. The presentation was also nice; which leads to the coleslaw: The coleslaw tasted good, too; but I was surprised the serving was so spare. It's almost as if it was served just to optically balance the presentation in the basket. (See photo shared,) And while the price was not unreasonable, feel it's creeping towards expensive (relative to serving size). I'll attribute this to rising input costs. Staffing might be an issue during the lunchtime service. Service was okay, but they seemed to be understaffed. It's possible that most of their business is done after 5pm.

The atmosphere at The San Franciscan is dark, cozy, and unapologetically old-school, but the vibe is absolute perfection. A few highlights from my visit: * The Caesar Salad: Honestly a standout. It's done exceptionally well, expertly dressed, and the portions are surprisingly generous. * The Steaks: Whenever I'm in the mood for a proper, high-quality steak, this is my go-to spot. They know how to handle their meat. * The Ambience: Dimly lit and full of classic charm. It feels like a throwback in the best way possible. Whether you're looking for a low-key date night spot or just craving a solid steak and a great salad, the San Franciscan delivers every time. Highly recommend!

Would I say they have the best prime rib around? No. But it is pretty damn satisfying. When here, I always order the Franciscan cut Prime Rib cooked to medium (it's 3/4 pounds), house salad with ranch dressing, and steak fries. They throw in a loaf of sourdough bread with whipped butter. The prime rib is very tender and has plenty of fat. We all know fat equals flavor. The only thing I would change about it, and I keep forgetting to ask the server each time I'm here, is to have it served without the au jus already in the plate. Don't get me wrong. The au jus is fantastic, but when the prime rib is served in a pool of it, the meat becomes soggy. Served separately, I think the prime rib would be even better. In addition to the prime rib, the salad and steak fries are incredibly delicious. The salad is nothing fancy, but very tasty due to the ranch dressing it comes with. Wish I knew the recipe of the dressing. The steak fries pair perfectly with the prime rib. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The only thing I would say is pretty average is the sourdough bread. Although it comes out warm, I don't get the sense that they're freshly baked. The service here is phenomenal. The servers are attentive, polite, and efficient. Can't ask for anything more from them. If you're looking for a trendy spot with contemporary decor and pretentious vibes, this place is not for you. This is an old school steakhouse with red upholstered booths and soft music playing in the background. If you live in the South Bay, and you're looking for a classic prime rib experience, this is a place you should check out.

When we arrived, the restaurant was about half full and there was live music occurring on the patio. We opted to sit inside where it was a little less noisy and there was a comfy and cozy booth calling our name. The vibe was great, with fun and eclectic decor. The service was really upbeat and friendly and our server was so kind and helpful. We asked him if the espresso martini had dairy in it (which I just discovered that is a thing at some places) and he double checked with the bartender to ensure there wasn't my dairy in it! I ordered that alongside a falafel wrap I must say, both of these worked so well together. The espresso martini was light and refreshing yet still had a bold flavor. The falafel was nice and crispy with a delectable inside and the tahini sauce was so rich and creamy. The meal felt indulgent yet hearty all at the same time.
