Really cool restaurant downtown by Top Chef alum Gavin Kaysen. Started with prosciutto with buffala mozzarella and it was good, but not anything too special IMO. The strip steak was perfectly cooked and had really great beefy flavor. It appears to have been sous vided first and then sliced and you get 2 pieces per order with a nice sauce and foam. The creamed spinach with cheese curds was fantastic, both the spinach, but especially the cheese curds! The chocolate budino was fantastic. Super rich and decadent, you'll struggle to finish it. A really great light whipped cream covering some toffee bits with the pudding underneath. Really lovely. Service was great, very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a wonderful experience here. We had a bottle of the riesling wine and it was delicious and light. Very yummy for a wine. We ordered the bucatini and raviloi along with the cheese curds and they were all delicious. It is a pricier restaurant but well worth the price for the food and atmosphere. Took several years for me to finally try the venerable Spoon & Stable. They don't offer multi-course fixed menu anymore so we literally tried 75% of the menu. Beautiful modern "farmhouse" style interior with lofty ceilings with natural lighting. However, it was kinda hot and muggy (sitting too close to the open kitchen wood fire grill?). Overall the presentation and service for the experience was great BUT no single dish stood out for me. The flavors were subtle. If I had to choose my favorite it would be the strip steak very tender. Service started off a bit rocky--our waiter didn't check in until we were halfway through our meal. However, he became much more attentive afterward, promptly addressing our requests, which was appreciated. This initial lack of attention is the main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. The food was excellent across the board, with beautifully prepared dishes that tasted as good as they looked. Do note that the portions are on the smaller side, so ordering a side dish along with your main entrée is a good idea. Came here for a late dinner around 9:30 PM. We had heard about the amazing food and service here so were really excited to check it out. The space was very nice and I loved the high ceilings. Service was a bit slow to start but was amazing the rest of the night. The staff were really attentive, constantly coming around to refill water, take away finished plates and provide clean plates. The food was also very good. I had the spaghetti nero and my brother had the halibut. The seafood was plentiful in the spaghetti and I loved the sauce. The bison tartare and creamy spinach with cheese curds were also good and my brother loved his halibut. I really really wanted to try dessert but in all honesty... we were in Minneapolis for only two days so we were cramming in food places and this was practically our 5th meal of the day and we just didn't have the space for dessert even though I'd read really good things about them. They did give a box of some small treats though when we were finished eating. This would definitely be a great place for a special occasion and if I ever get a chance to come back, I'm starting with dessert. read more

We do not live in Minneapolis, although my husband used to. This is a restaurant I have wanted to go to for about five years now and I am so happy I have finally made it here! I can't say enough about how good the interiors are! I loved the curved sofa seating, the giant iron and glass wine cellar, the raw brick walls and the industrial ceiling! They also got it right on table height and lighting! Our server tonight was Elly and she was fantastic! She was very attentive and helped guide us through the menu expertly! I love that their menu is based on seasonal ingredients while still keeping a few of the fan favorites. Tonight we started with the tomato salad, which is a fantastic start because it's light. Had some coworkers from out of town and wanted to know what MN had to offer on the food scene. Where else to take them but @spoonandstable. They had no idea a lovely place would be in Minneapolis, they quickly learned we are more that just cold and lakes! We enjoyed a must have duck meatloaf sliders and lamb meatballs to get things started along with parmigiano thick cut French fries. Moved on to our entrees, I had the torchiette with lamb ragu and a ricotta salata. The others got the dry aged duck and SPAGHETTI NERO. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and food. My husband and I made reservations for the Chef's Counter to celebrate his birthday and... OH. MY. GOODNESS. What an incredible experience! To start, the ambiance of Spoon and Stable was wonderful. SO much natural light to illuminate the restaurant. Also, it's much larger than it seems from the street. Upon walking in, the bar with standing and seated options is on the left and the rest of the restaurant is wide open with booths and tables throughout. Since we made reservations for the Chef's Counter, we were immediately greeted and seated by a friendly waitress towards the back by the kitchen. It being our first time visiting, we wanted to try a few different things. We ordered; a couple of glasses of wine (delish), french fries, spaghetti nero, wagyu flatiron, and Alaskan halibut. Nearly immediately after ordering, our waitress brought over complimentary fresh sourdough rolls. A couple of minutes later the head chef brought over a couple of complimentary black truffle arancini which were out of this world! Overall, the food at Spoon and Stable was spectacular! Seriously top 5 meals of all time for me. Everything we ordered was seasoned perfectly and the depth of flavor was incredible. Plus, they brought out a fun birthday dessert for my husband, which was so nice! Also, it was so much fun watching the BOH work -- it truly was dinner and a show! I'm excited to visit again so we can try out their bar menu -- that dirty french burger looked delicious coming out of the kitchen! Had a reservation here and when i checked in they were not welcoming. The lady at the front was just rude and told me to sit wherever i want near the bar lounge. There were only two tables and both were dirty and not cleaned. We waited and no one was cleaning them up. We went and sat only to be again approached by a waitress who rudely asked us to get up. I agree it isn't her fault but there is lack of coordination between them. Moving to food had some bar food and dessert. Dessert was the highlight. Overall decent experience. The food was all great, some better than others but overall no regrets or dissatisfaction from any of the dishes. The service was incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful. Noteworthy things I want to comment on: Bison tartare: very tasty but seemed to have more of a middle eastern flavor profile with lots of spices and tumeric. It worked, but not quite my preference compared to a traditional flavor profile Gnudi: delicious, a must order Halibut: highlight entree by far. So buttery, flaky, and moist. Incredibly impressive for a generally dense fish. Honey and cream cake: I am primarily a savory guy but dam this cake would turn me into a diabetic. If I could only order 1 item, this would be it. I love the transparent kitchen and the glass wine cellar. Service: The best service I've had in a while at a fine dining restaurant. Everyone was attentive and nice! Drinks: I ordered the French 75, which was a light citrus-y cocktail. My fiancé had The Daily (I forgot what was in it, but it was good!) He also had the Old Fashioned which was really interesting because it was made with rum instead of whiskey. He liked it! Food: We ordered a lot to share. Everything was unique and had complex flavors, which I enjoyed! -Bison Tartar: It tasted very fresh! I wasn't crazy about it but it was good. -Gnudi: We ordered the half portion. This was a tasty pasta! It was so unique and the flavors were unlike anything I've ever tried before. The purple asparagus and mushrooms added a great texture. -Alaskan Halibut: My favorite dish of the night. It was marvelous. The halibut was perfectly cooked, buttery soft, and I loved the crunchy bits of garlic on top. Probably the best halibut I've ever had. -Redfish: I loved the crispy skin and how flakey the fish was! The daikon or seaweed garnish made this dish a touch too briny (or it could have been the broth?) I loved the crunchy snap peas, which added a nice texture to the soft fish. -Desserts: They looked so beautiful that we had to order 2! The Honey & Cream Cake appears to be the most popular so of course, we had to try it. My fiancé typically doesn't care for cake but he loved this one! It is worth the hype. The honey meringue and beeswax ice cream made this even more delicious. We also ordered the Brown Sugar Creme Brûlée because it looked so pretty! This was also very unique but the Honey & Cream Cake takes the win. Our server also surprised us with a 3rd dessert, it was a house made vanilla ice cream with cotton candy. Overrated and overpriced. Had the lamb chops and they were blah. Underseasoned overpriced, very disappointing. I've had better at a more reasonable cost. I'm a visitor from out of state and doubt that I'll ever be back to this restaurant again. Had the lamb chops because that's what I was expected to order. The tab before the tip was $400 for five of us. I don't think we got our moneys worth. But I'm an old fart and This place was not my choice. The others thought that the meals were terrific. Service was excellent and attentive. I had a difficult time picking something from the menu that interested me. I'm sure this place attracts a certain clientele who are impressed with their James Beard award and local reputation. Dinner at Spoon and Stable was a blast! Our server Megan was so knowledgeable and friendly, she really made the experience. We started off with drinks. We all had the non alcoholic choices, stuck with the sweeter options. The negroni is premade but taste just like a negroni. Not my cup of tea but Megan was kind enough to let me switch it out for something else. Then we got the bread and butter, DELISH! My dinner mates also ordered the chickpea bread which was more of a cracker. That went well with the whipped better too. Then we ended the apps with the fries and tartar. For dinner we had the prawns, lamb, and pork. I had some allergies and the waitress was great about letting me know what I could and couldn't eat. All the food was good, the pork was a bit on the sweeter side due to the sauce but I liked it nonetheless. I wish I would've tried the pasta, something to grab on my next visit! For dessert we got the Sorel ice cream and honey cream cake. These were the biggest treats of the night!! The Honey Cake is soft, melts in your mouth and is topped with ice cream. The Sorel I cream comes with a pillowy piece of that chickpea cracker but in a different flavoring. Kudos to the chef, culinary magic is happening in the kitchen. The dishes are designed with such thought. And the restaurant is gorgeous. Everyone seated was having separate conversations but no one's voice carried too far. Spoon & Stable Was truly blown away by my experience here. It started with getting a reservation on Feb 1st for our March 16th dinner, this was necessary - the resy's booked up in 5mins. Parking near the restaurant isn't the easiest, but you shouldn't have to walk more than a few blocks. The waitstaff is very professional, kind and offering plenty of reccs. We ordered cocktails which were fantastic - the French 75, Gin & Tonic, and Wine. For food, we had the Bison Tartare, the seafood Nero, Risotto, and Arctic Char. The tartare was incredible. The spices were of a Mexican blend and just mended so well together. The softness paired with the crunch and watermelon radish was just perfection. So so well done! The seafood Nero was also perfection. The sauce clung to the pasta so perfectly and the flavors were the most incredible. I wouldn't miss this. The risotto we had was also good, but the flavors were so narrow to one taste that after a couple of bites you don't really want more. I would not choose this again, but it wasn't bad. The arctic char was utterly phenomenal. The best dish we had by far. The Char was incredibly buttery, and the sauce was exquisite. The chick peas also were just the best pairing. I was truly blown away by this dish. The honey & cream cake was our dessert and it was also incredible. The softness and moisture of the cake just transported you to your happy place. I would not skip their cake offerings. Big kudos to the team for the fantastic atmosphere, great service, and phenomenal food. read more

Again the Chocolate Budino is outstanding and paired with their delicious Espresso Martini it's the perfect ending to a Saturday night out!! We always manage to snag bar seats ,love the vibe in this restaurant- they had refurbished recently,not sure I could tell too much of a difference but food and service is still 10/10 Also tried the coconut and lime curd dessert which has an almond cake and it was very good and refreshing- complete opposite of the chocolate dish but if you like fruit then yum. Spoon and Stable is one of those restaurants that you always hear about and is a classic. This is a very late post as I went in May 2023. The space is pretty open and the ceilings are tall which make it beautiful but also can be very loud. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful with everything and also personable. We ordered the below: I believe the bread for the table is complimentary but this was from May and I may not be remembering correctly, but it was so fresh and was delicious and warm. Oysters - very fresh, presented well, a few sauce on the side to choose from ! Bison Tartare - I love tartare & this tartare was one of my least favorites, it was still very fresh, but the dish it self was overpowered by a strong flavor which made it seem not as good to me specifically. Don't get me wrong it was still good, just not my favorite. Halibut - (not currently on the menu) the fish was super flaky and cooked to perfection! I didn't care for the crusted part on the top. Presentation was outstanding! Steak - (not currently on menu) presentation was incredible again, the meat was a bit chewy, but overall pretty good. One of the best meals I've had in a while. Couldn't decide between two pastas so I ordered them both. Started with the ravioli ($23) with celery root fonduta, matsutake mushroom, smoked hazelnut, pleasant ridge cheese, and brown butter, which was a great combination with a tasty filling. It was only topped by the ricotta cavatelli ($19) with preserved lemon yogurt, garlic scape, crispy chickpea, with the contrasting textures and balanced flavor profile. Finished the night with the toffee Butter Cake with golden raisin, pecan, pear sorbet, miso, which was not oversweet but could have used a bit more of the sorbet to match the rest of the dessert. I thought this restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. From the ambiance, to the complementaries, to the service, to the attention to detail in the dishes- I was very impressed. I asked my wonderful server for his recommendations on the entree menu and he led me to the duck and the halibut. I went with the duck and was truly wowed. I am a duck snob and therefore was skeptical but this preparation blew me away- the rhubarb molasses was perfect. This time the group I was with started with oysters, which were extremely fresh and the accompaniments they were served with were perfect. For an appetizer, I went with the hiramasa crudo. We all shared the sweet corn agnolotti and I couldn't believe how unique and delicious it was. For my entree, I decided on the seared scallops, they were incredible, the whole dish was so cohesive and I was sad when I finished it!
