Living in North Buffalo I was so totally psyched to have a Spot Coffee opening so nearby! I frequent the downtown Spot and always love popping in on Elmwood. But this location is a little different. It's huge and more open than the other locations. There are fewer interesting seating arrangements, a lot of boring tables and some pseudo-modern cozy furniture. But I like it alright. Same tasty coffee and delish (albeit expensive) food. I like the pizza, I finally tried it the other day and was a big fan. I do wish the pizza came with a small side salad like the sandwiches. It would make me feel a little bit better about eating the entire 8" pie. I find this Spot to be most enjoyable on the handful of days I've been able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. A welcome addition to the Hertel strip! read more

Unlike the ubiquitous Starbucks which consequently encroaches upon the very existence of the coffee ideal as result of cannibalistic marketing practices, Spot Coffee tethers itself to a more reasonable, local love of the coffee shop. This is not to say that Spot Coffee is the embodiment of the mom and pop vision but that its connection to Buffalo's rich cultural landscape is more fitting of a small city street than a highway run rampant. I have entered into this establishment on many a fine occasion and thus have sampled from the various delicious types of nectar over these fine past years. They have satisfying tea lattes and dessert coffees. In addition, on a superior night their cheesecake may make you commit a faux pas. Their ambiance is friendly and mildly grandiose. Even though I wish there was a friendly neighborhood face greeting me as I called out "I'll have my regular good sir", this coffee shop is a becoming substitute. read more

Came here for a work meeting. It was early so I didn't get a fancy drink. I needed to get straight to the point so I had an Americano-espresso and water. They put two shots of espresso in their small (Tim Horton's only does one) so it was perfect. The atmosphere is great. It's quiet, spacious, and cozy. This is definitely one of my favorite Spot locations. read more

I am all about this location. The absolute perfect place to study. The feel in this particular Spot is so cozy and warm it makes me want to hide out here for hours which is exactly what I did the other day and got a ton of work done. The only downside here is the internet. You need to get a little code from the barista and it lasts for two hours. Not that big of a deal to get up every two hours and get a new code but just not something I am used to. Plenty of seating, fireplace, couches, good music, I love it. Street parking isn't ideal but it is what it is. read more

So what if I hit the remote start on my car as soon as I walked IN to Spot Coffee to keep the car warm. Yea, it's late February in Buffalo and like everybody else, I'm ready for the wind to stop hurting my face. Onward on upward then. The Mike Sandwich. I usually go with the focaccia with a nice herb dusting on top. Is it fuh-ka-cha or fuh-ka-sha or fuh-khat-sha? It's a credit to the warm and inviting staff here that I immediately felt comfortable enough to admit to the barista (I hate this word, there I said it) that I had no idea how to pronounce it correctly. She smiled politely and corrected me without making me feel like the simpleton that I am. Egg and cheese on that wonderful focaccia with a savory smattering of whipped cream cheese to bring it all home. Serve that baby up with a solid house coffee (...simpleton, told you) and my level of misery from the Buffalo winter is pacified... For now. read more

The menu never changes and is the same crappy food and even worse coffee as it was years ago. I only go because it is the only coffee shop open late to study. I went in the other day and inquired about their clam chowder, i dont eat pork so was asking if there was any in it and one of the guys behind the counter-instead of a simple no-started being really rude and insulting, saying stuff like "America was founded on bacon" and laughing loudly in my face he continued to go on and on with his co-workers. I guess he forgot about Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Vegetarians or ANY of the people who dont eat pork as Americans. I was not as impressed with this Spot was I was with the one downtown. This one has much less of a neighborhood feel and a bit more of a corporate one. It was much more like visiting a Starbucks. Food was good, coffee was good, wifi requires hoops to jump through to get, which is a pain in the behind. read more

I've been to more Spot Coffee locations than the average person in Buffalo. I can say that because the only location located outside of NY state is in my home city of Delray Beach, Fl located on beautiful Atlantic Ave. Within NY state, the Hertel location is by far the best. The drinks are delicious, staff are friendly, and the Internet ALWAYS works unlike the Elmwood store. The lighting is perfect for studying or just enjoying a book with a drink. My go-to coffee shop for studying. read more

Staff is very friendly quick on their feet. I often go in for a coffee to go or stay for some food and study. I usually stick to coffee or iced coffee and it is always good. For food I like to get the yogurt and fruit or oatmeal with fruit. I recently tried the vanilla almond biscotti and it was delish! I do get disappointed when I walk in expecting to buy a fruit cup and they are all out. Overall, the space is great.Wifi available and plenty of outlets to plug in devices. Also the music selection is a great mix of alternative/indie and some older classic pop! Paula's doughnuts also available! read more

Been to spot at different location a couple times and never really experience a good customer service. This location is by far the best customer service a reduced in all times that I spent at spot. The staff were really friendly and full of energy even though it's still pretty early. Her positive vibes spread through the people around her. I was given the option of how I want my macchiato. This may not be a big deal to you if you know what you're ordering, but I was never given that option in other locations, plastic cup was my only choice. I got my macchiato in a mug which I found it very creative. The place is very clean and comfortable. My first time here, but I felt like I was welcomed from the staff. read more

Came here to get some good ol' reading done before going to my friend's house, and eventually the wine festival. I got the Turkey Bacon Club wrap. It was very good but after eating it for a while, it got pretty spicy. The chips it came with were good too, just plain kettle chips. Sitting and reading I actually got quite distracted because the music was so loud. The chairs were comfortable though. I would definitely come back! read more

Big fan of Spot on Elmwood, and excited to see Spot in my neighborhood North of the Kensington. Observations no one else has made about Spot on Hertel: - It has a nice gas fireplace, which is cozy for many months of the year. - Their hot chocolate is unbelievable, much better than the Spot on Elmwood's. (I did a taste test yesterday and today. No contest.) - There is a large parking lot directly behind the block of shops. Just turn north and then sharply west at the first curb cut and you'll find it hidden back there. Free parking and no ticket worries. - It is often crowded, but much quieter than the Elmwood Spot. Great for getting work done. - Lloyd's Taco Truck is often parked across the street on Thursdays. -The chicken wrap with hummus is huge, so large it usually feeds both myself and my husband. Very tasty! Also a fan of their almond cherry scone. read more

Our party stopped at Spot Coffee for a hot drink but we all decided we were hungry and ordered an early lunch to go with it. Our order consisted of a turkey wrap, a steak pannini, a hummus wrap and a pepperoni pizza. Some of us also had the bean and greens soup...outstanding! Surprise, surprise the food was outstanding! The pizza was one of the most delicious specialty pizzas I've had in a long while. The crust was crispy and chewy at the same time and the toppings were tasty, fresh and excellently seasoned. Their salad which came as a side with each dish look freshly picked from the garden and the dressings were spectacular. The fillings for the pannini and wraps were well seasoned and generous. I didn't give it 5 stars because the wait for our order seemed unduly long. read more

Spot Coffee is a small chain, but each shop is unique. At this location, one of the things I like best is the patio facing Hertel Avenue. It's a great place to spend a morning. At all the Spot locations, I appreciate the availability of vegetarian meals and, of course, really tasty coffee/espresso beverages. Terrible service. Visited on Thursday 6/12 around 6:30 pm. Store was 1/3 full. I do not mind waiting extended periods of time for my order, as long as the crew is hustling. But the 2 front people were engaged in casual conversation most of the time, only to be joined on occasion by the guy in the back preparing the food. After 40 minutes of waiting, I asked about my order and the guy actually gave me attitude. No apology..... he actually got a little cocky..."well....what did YOU order?" I patiently repeated my order and he went back to, I assume, make it. As I continued to wait, I thought, do I really want to eat what he is going to bring out? So I just left, and donated my $12 meal to the cause. I will not be back. read more

I think this is my favorite spot coffee in Buffalo. The baristas are very bubbly and approachable. They always make their drinks consistent, whereas at other locations the drink may come out differently each time. I also prefer this environment above the other locations. It's very relaxed, but not in a pretentious way (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). The food is also delicious. I ordered their pizza sometimes and it always comes out freshly made and in a very timely manner. read more

My favorite of the SPOT locations. I've spent many hours at this coffee shop working on homework during grad school, catching up with friends on a coffee date, and enjoying breakfast with my boyfriend. The fact that it is my favorite location is probably partly based on the fact I lived in North Buffalo for 2 years and it was the most accessible from my home. But even that aside, I just like the vibe better here. Elmwood is always super packed and can be a little overwhelming, and Main St. in Williamsville never seems to have enough seating. Even though this Hertel location seems to always be busy, it never feels overwhelmingly crowded and you can always find a seat. If I'm going here for breakfast, I always get the Mike's sandwich: two fried eggs, melted provolone cheese, and cream cheese on your choice of bread. I strongly suggest to get it on a bagel. I strayed from my usual and got it on a croissant once, and it just wasn't the same. I typically add bacon as well. Coffee drinkers: their house blend is a pretty strong/bold roast. If you prefer a lighter roast, you might not like their coffee. But it's worth giving it a try. If I'm at Spot during the lunch hour, I'll typically get a sandwich or one of their pizzas, both of which are delicious. I was particularly surprised how tasty the pizza was. Didn't expect that out of a coffee shop. When the whether is nice, you can sit outdoors, although those tables get snatched rather quickly. Next time you're enjoying a walk on Hertel Ave, make sure you stop at Spot! read more

I like this place because it's close to my office and I can walk there on my lunch break. I only get a half hour, so being able to walk the couple of blocks, get my drink, get out, and walk back in 30 minutes is important. Never had an issue. I've gone here many times on many different days and my experience is usually good. The pastries are never as good as they look, but I shouldn't be eating them anyway, so whatever. Now, before I go any further, I understand the whole idea and ideal of a coffee shop. I know that a quality latte takes time to make. And I understand that the public at large has been corrupted by the Tim Hortons mentality and the expectation that a cup of coffee can and should be procured in 2 minutes or less. And in fact, I am also a barista at the Big Green Place, so I understand how pushy people can be when they want a latte and don't realize it takes a minute to pull espresso shots, steam milk, and put it all together. I ALSO understand that it's important to build customer connections. That being said, when my drink takes forever at 8:00 on a weekday morning because the guy at the register is chatting it up with his friend while a line builds behind him...I have an issue. I'm not talking about multitasking with a little pleasant customer exchange about the weather while quickly fulfilling an order. I'm talking about "I saw so and so and she said this and that and you know him and they did that other thing and then we said something else and last I heard she was doing that and wow, dude, really, how is what's her name, did you ever get around to this and that, no kidding, really, wow, okay cool yeah, and then hey you know who else I saw and they said this and they're doing that and last night we did this and then did that and next week we're going to...." while shuffling at the speed of molasses as three, four, then five people wait in a line to order. Then I order my drink and I wait. And I wait. And I wait some more. And time is ticking. And no one is making my drink. And my drink ticket is flapping in the wind, still on the printer. No one has come around. No one is manning the bar. My drink ticket is lonely. And I have to get to work. And I'm getting anxious. Several minutes later I just ask for my money back because I have to go to work. Luckily this time I have my car and am only a three minute drive away, but the fact remains that I now have to face a work day - and one where I'm on deadline, no less - with only minimal crappy diner coffee in my system (I had just had breakfast at Bertha's down the street) and this. is. bad. To their credit, the supervisor who issued my refund was apologetic and polite. I hate to be "that customer," and maybe it's my own fault for daring to order an espresso beverage instead of regular coffee, but still. If I'd just seen something resembling a sense of urgency I might have walked away with a better impression. Moral of the story: don't go here for a latte in the morning if you have less than 20 minutes to kill. Otherwise, it's pretty okay. read more

The location is great. The service is friendly. The ambiance is cozy. It's a comfortable place to read, get some work done, or meet with somebody. I love the indoor fire place. Unfortunately the food isn't very good. Two hours of wifi is free if you order something (just ask for wifi when you order). Unfortunately it's based on each order not how much you spend in one order. So, sometimes I'll order all my food and coffee at once, sit down, spend 2 hours getting settled, and then my internet runs out just when I need it most. Do I buy something else? Or just leave in annoyance? Usually the latter. I wish there were something like Caffe Aroma in the Hertel Ave area, but this isn't it. However, this location is far cozier and nicer than the Elmwood Spot Coffee. read more

Came here for lunch and was surprised by the food menu growth since the days I used to frequent Spot during high school (10 years ago). I ordered my usual and favorite s'mores bar and went with the Mike sandwich - breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel, fried eggs, provolone cheese, and cream cheese. So delicious. My sister got an omelet and it came out so huge and fluffy. She enjoyed it. The service was great. The casheir was friendly, the cook was friendly. They were personable, could converse appropriately, and even made sure to wave good-bye as we left. It was a great Spot experience. read more

This is the best Spot in the area. It's much less of a "day bar" than the Spot on Elmwood. It's still social, but people don't go here as much to be seen as they do to grab a drink or get some work done. They also have really great choco pb muffins (vegan) and the employees here are particularly sweet and personable. :) read more

This Spot went full on corporate modernity with the look, which I HATE - it's very sterile and lawyer-office-cafeteria-ish. It kills the vibe the other locations are famous for (although I'll say the other two Spots in the city have also seen more and more table-chair combos and less casual seating since their independent owner sold them to a Canadian corporation), particularly the almost complete lack of artsy/reused decor or living room-esque furniture the other places have. The food is still just as good, prices the same, service was decent. I'm excited for their large, open air patio. A good choice for locale on their part and a part of the growing number of businesses moving to or opening up a branch on Hertel, I just wished they didn't feel the need to go all "chain store" with the look. read more

I took my daughter's basketball team here before a game - so obviously our gang was loud and excited however the staff was great; their orders perfect and that's saying something as there were a lot of us! Only downside to our visit - cinnamon rolls should be warm/hot. They tend to get a little dry when sitting there so a little zap of heat could have helped. read more
