An absolutely amazing meal. Had the opportunity to take my daughter on a Daddy-Daughter date to the Spring House in Downtown Winston-Salem. The meal and experience were amazing. First, the hospitality is top notch. Located in a historic home that sits in the National Register of Historic Places, the restaurant has a classic feel that is well accompanied by a very polite, welcoming staff. The food was spectacular. We ordered the bread service, with the add-on bacon jam and tomato tapenade. The bacon jam is good enough to put on anything and it will taste amazing. We also ordered a delicious Caesar salad to spit. Both were so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture before we started eating. For our main course, my daughter ordered the braised pork shank from the regular menu and loved it. The pork itself was ridiculously fork-tender and the candied cabbage was an incredible sweet counterbalance to the savory sauce. Easily a 9/10 dish. For me, I ordered the Duck, which was perfectly cooked (rare), a great sear, and seasoned incredibly. I was torn on whether the star of the dish was the duck or the accompanying Brussel sprouts. Regardless, a very solid 8/10. The restaurant was very kind to gift us dessert for our special occasion. I had a very happy 10 year old when she saw the dessert plate arrive. My husband and I went to Spring House for our Valentine's Day dinner, and it was a very nice evening with yummy food! We started with drinks and an appetizer. The Pear Ginger Fizz cocktail was great! Light and fruity. It didn't taste like alcohol at all which is my favorite type of cocktail the Bread Service came highly recommended and for good reason! The bread options were numerous, and the spreads were a great pairing. We definitely had our favorites - whipped goat cheese and pimento cheese. However, I think it's worth it to get all 4 and find your tastes! My main dish of the Braised Pork Shank was plentiful - so much food!! The meat came right off the bone. I wish the red cabbage was plated with the meal (it came on the side in a bowl), but otherwise, it was a splendid meal. It also made for great leftovers the next day! The blueberry limoncello crisp had such a good flavor combo! The lemon was on the more sour side, but I still liked it. The sweet cream is chef's kiss! The service was very friendly!! Our waitress was kind, and she checked in at good intervals. There were some weird changes in lighting throughout the meal. Had a great dinner here with the wife, and we agreed we need to check Winston out more and definitely the spring house. I don't remember the cocktails but theyr were tasty, but the food rang a bit more. The shirt rib egg rolls were really good, pretty heavy though if your not into heavy foods like this, the creamy horseradish sauce went perfectly. The wife got the parmcrusted cod which was really nice and the pork chop was also good Service was great and we got a nice seat next to a window. I really like their bar set up, cool chairs and look, I would def enjoy cocktails at their bar. I'm not in Winston too often but definitely want to come back to the spring house soon. read more

The ambience is awesome and that goes without saying, but it's the staff that makes your time there special. We had drinks on the patio since the library bar had a private event and then they were able to accommodate our one guest who had accessibility problems and could not go up the stairs with the first floor seating. So happy to have finally tried this place. Came on a Saturday night 8PM res. Got cocktails and the bread service which was fantastic. The vibe here is really nice and romantic. Creaking wood floors, dim lighting, comfy seating in a small living room type area with only 4 tables. My husband ordered the catfish (pictured) and I got the Lobster Bisque. We went here for our little man's birthday celebration and had a wonderful time! I cannot say enough good things about Chef Tim and his crew. Tyler our server was an excellent personality and made our visit extra special. The menu changes with the equinox and you will find exquisitely prepared and thoughtful dishes. I had the chicken and waffles and it may have been the best chicken I ever had! Wine selection was nice and had a little something for most anyone's palate . The pork chop was juicy and perfectly cooked. One of my favorite things was the cabbage! Oh the humble cabbage I would go back just for that! The vibe is leisurely and relaxed. I was able to get chef to sign his cookbook for me and I will treasure it in my ever growing collection. The desserts were on point and I encourage you to get the banana pudding and butter cake. I was excited to finally get to try this restaurant as an esteemed fellow Yelp Elite (shoutout Meena P!) had recommended it to me before. When my best friend was cast in a show in Winston-Salem, I had the perfect opportunity to experience Spring House and impress my parents at the same time. It was extremely easy to make a reservation ahead of time on Open Table, especially since we needed an early bird special at 5:30pm in order to have plenty of time to make it to the show. To begin we ordered a couple drinks and bread service with sun dried tomato tapenade. For my drink I selected the Hugo 75 which was nice and light from plenty of mint muddled into it. The bread service included a nice variety of different breads, and they were all served warm. It was served with butter too which came in cylinders, which was aesthetically pleasing but not super easy to work with. For my entree I ordered the cast iron skillet duck breast. I really enjoyed the texture of the duck breast and the interesting flavor profiles contributed by the summer squash puree, apple whiskey gastrique, and berry compote. The haricot vert and carrots were cooked well but didn't have much flavor. My parents got the lemon garlic chicken gnocchi and pan roasted sea bass. I tried my mom's gnocchi and it was very rich and flavorful. It's definitely one of those dishes you can't eat the whole portion without immediately needing a nap. I really enjoyed the interior decoration and ambiance as well. Even if you were just looking for a nice bar, they definitely have that in spades with a very nice seating area. Stopped by the Spring House tonight on a whim. They usually require reservations but were able to get us a table outside even thought we did not have a reservation. Definitely would recommend getting a reservation though! Our server was so incredibly nice and gave amazing recommendations. She knew the appropriate time of when to come check on us and when to give us some space. The indoor seating looked super cool but we only walked through it. Outside seating was beautiful with a very calming fountain background noise and trees around for privacy. Definitely gave romantic date night or celebration type vibe. The cocktails were so delicious. I got the lilac linen which was very light and refreshing. My husband got a whiskey sour that was made beautifully. The food was where we differed on opinions. I got the Parmesan cod. It was so delightful. It had a nice Parmesan crust on a bed of rice and vegetables. My husband got the chicken and waffles and it was pretty bland on flavor. Stopped by on a curious whim, and was pleasantly surprised. It's by reservation only but they did have availability for outside seating only. On a cloudy 75 degrees night it was perfect. They have a running fountain that makes the outside dining experience so relaxing and serene. Service was great! I recommend the Salmon rice bowl, pics included. We opted for the Bread service all of the above option. It was a nice treat but it was too much bread and don't recommend before the main course. Between the cocktail options "Cruel Summer" and "The Sun-Kissed Botanist" the botanical won. It was smoother, the other was too heavy with our meal options. We decided to try out Spring House and made reservations online. They called us ahead of time to confirm and asked if we had any specific requests or celebrations which was a nice touch. We were seated immediately and the place has a wonderful charm that encompasses the essence of the old house while also providing a comfortable restaurant experience. We ordered our drinks and some bread with the sun dried tomato tapenade. This was delicious!! For dinner I opted for the short rib. It came with smashed potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts , and a cognac jus. While I thought the plating was nice, the meal was just ok. The beef was extremely tender but I felt everything just lacked a pop. There just wasn't the it factor that made me craving more. A good dish but not a great one. The restaurant environment and service were fantastic which led to them maintaining a 4 star review despite my slightly underwhelming food. read more

Trying to get caught up on my reviews! It's been a busy week, we have been enjoying restaurant week sponsored by Eat, Drink Triad. First time at the Springhouse that used to be the "Reynolda House". They closed for regular customers and hosted a wine and tasting event. It was awesome! There was so many genres of cuisine, charcuterie, ethnic delights and a great selection of wine and drinks. The atmosphere of this historic building gave a vibe as if you walked a 1920 English countryside house. We had selection of different tasty bites, grilled shrimp in green plantain cups, Korean bao buns, roasted pork and a wonderful bourbon bread pudding. We loved the experience and we need to go back for the full experience. Everyone needs to go her at least once! read more

Out of all the fine dining in WS, this spot tops my list. Just the old southern charm of having a restaurant inside of a house is an entire vibe. Although we went on probably the coldest day of the year so we didn't get to enjoy the patio, the bar area with the fireplace was an absolute delight. The food matched our excitement of the atmosphere. We started our dinner with the bread service (and all accompaniments), oysters, crab Rangoon dip, and the stuffed ribeye cap pinwheel. I wasn't sure about pimento cheese on oysters but as the saying goes - don't knock it till you try it. They were delicious! The rib cap was small so not exactly shareable if you are in a group but still a great bite. Our favorite was the bread service just because you can make an entire meal out of so many types of bread/toppings. Our least favorite was the crab Rangoon dip. It wasn't giving me true Rangoon vibes - just a normal crab dip that was very unremarkable. For our entrees I went with the pork chop and my husband went with the beet, spinach, and goat cheese salad add chicken. My pork chop was HUGE given the price. It was a double chop and I could only eat one so I had leftovers to enjoy the next day. My husband said his chicken salad was one of the best he's ever had. We had the spritz and mezcal cocktails which were yummy. I think I liked the spritz better but that's just because I'm partial to those in general. Spring House has one of my favorite ambiance's in Winston! Their bar and fireplace area are super cozy and great for an appetizer and cocktail in the winter time. Their menu rotates often with the seasons which is great when you're local and want to try new dishes. Their prices are a bit higher for the area but their ingredients are always fresh so the prices make sense. We always start with the bread service which includes a variety of spreads and breads - highly recommend getting this! For apps we got the oysters, a Caesar salad, and crab Rangoon dip. The oysters were great but the crab dip left something to be desired. It was mainly imitation crab and didn't have a ton of flavor. Wishing they had woven cream cheese or Thai chili sauce in to hit on Rangoon flavors. For entrees we got the short rib cannelloni and overall it was super creative but needed some seasoning. Another stellar dinner at spring house ! I can never fault anything here. Service is always top notch, Jennifer our server was amazing . She was on the ball and just so personable that I want to hang out with her! She had my food love language when she said all you need is bread, dessert and champagne ! All of which we had here and were so awesome. Had the pleasure of being seated in the blue room which I'd never seen before and will always ask for from now on. Perfectly set off to the back of the bar area and cozy, I loved the layout and that your away from the rest of the restaurant. Not noisy at all . We had the Veuve to start because if your going to do champagne you do Veuve . It never disappoints. The bread service is always a must here. And get all of the above dips. Always. Bacon jam being my favorite. Their house made focaccia is to die for. I had one of the specials of the night. Oyster mushroom bao buns. Wow. Never know whether to eat this kinda stuff outside of Asian restaurants but I did . This was a little slice of perfection. In a bun. The bun itself was nice and light and spongy. The oyster mushroom was lightly fried. With a cabbage and onion slaw and spicy mayo base. Loved this amazing small plate. Plenty for one person. The hand cut fries another must. With truffle oil and rosemary and Parmesan these are truly decadent. My friend had the fried green tomatoes with pork shoulder. Wow . Her words too. Perfectly cooked and served and great flavor. Great Smokey bbq shoulder. We tried the Ooey gooey butter cake as it's a house favorite. Honestly didn't really love this . Just kinda like pound cake toasted. With syrup. Switched to the chocolate torte which I knew was a winner from before. So nice and warm and melt in your mouth. Loved the cream and chocolate sauce and the sour cherry syrup. This is one of the best desserts in Winston. If your a chocolate lover you just have to get this. My espresso martini was just perfect with the torte. I've always wanted to go to Spring House and finally made it happen. The ambience was comforting, relaxing and very beautiful with cool paintings in every room! The bar tender was great and drinks were well mixed. The food was very poorly prepared. We had the roasted oyster small plate and they were over cooked and very fishy. This is one of my favorite dishes to have out and we should have sent it back. We also had the beef cheeks small plate and it was a disappointment. It was tender but very under seasoned. The grit cake flavorless and the au jus tasted like it had been made with something like "better with bullion" and not been sufficiently mixed. For entrees we had the special of fettuccine with lobster and shrimp, the seafood was terribly over cooked and the sauce was very fishy. There should be nothing fishy about shrimp or lobster. We also had the lamb entree. It was served below room temperature and itwas chewy. The best entree we had at the table was catfish, but when you took a fork to it every bit of the crust fell off. The beans and greens that came with it were very sweet which was unexpected for a typically savory dish. Overall, I was terribly disappointed that a $350 meal could be so poorly executed. read more

My son took me here for my birthday. My 3 stars are based on price for the service and food. First, the good: the ambience is nice and clean, and the wait staff attentive. That part was 5 Stars. We got the bread service with all the toppings and could have made a meal out of that alone. The various breads and jams (bacon jam, pimento, goat cheese) were all flavorful and the variety of breads were truly enjoyed by us both. Now to the so-so. My son got the chicken over pimento grits and shrimp. It had very little flavor and was disappointing. He said he could taste some salt and that was about it. I got the pasta. It's a small portion and that's fine; the sauce was good. However, the burrata sitting atop the pasta was cold. Like, refrigerator cold, not even room temp. Now, I don't know if that's how you are supposed to serve pasta with burrata but I don't like cold cheese on my hot pasta (I don't remember it being served this way when we were in Italy); it's very off putting and cooled down every bit I ate. They offered dessert but based on the flavor of the dishes, we passed. I don't think I'd go here again, other than to enjoy the bread service, lol. read more

Finally got to try this place out! I've been eyeing it for years and now it's one of my top favorite spots in Winston. The ambiance is very "homey" with a modern twist in the bar area. The drinks were delicious the food was delicious the service was on point, what more can you ask for? It's a beautiful restaurant with a seasonal menu. For starters we ordered the creamy burrata with peach jam, truffle honey, & toasted almonds as well as the the trio of shrimp, sweet corn, & crab fritters. Both appetizers were amazing. For my main dish I ordered the Lobster rigatoni. It was good but huge! Definitely couldn't finish, the portion was something I didn't expect, but I was not complaining! Initially dessert was supposed to be the butter cake, but sadly the large parties upstairs ordered them all so we had the salted caramel banana pudding. It was okay, nothing too spectacular, so I wouldn't ordered it again. This place is a must try if you've been curious about the beautiful big white house in the middle of downtown! Why I won't go back: Bland food and hurried service takes the elegance out of a beautiful, cozy dinner setting. Do NOT order: Caesar salad (practically devoid of dressing), Braised beef over pasta (incredibly bland, saved only by the goat cheese) Tony's Tip: It's a quaint, cozy house. The "play" here might be to get a drink or two at the bar and order the bread service, which is incredible. We were (actually still are) in Winston-Salem to visit our son at Wake Forest. Having diligently researched numerous spots in town for dinner, and knowing we'd be here for V-Day, the Spring House seemed the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two (son and his gf are on their own tonight!). Chef Tim has a solid reputation in town, so we were looking forward to experiencing what he brings to the table (see what I did there?). The evening started out quite nicely. Stepping into the house, you feel immediately embraced by its charm, and quickly thereafter, its host/hostesses. We were seated right away in a cute room with tables spaced appropriately (not for Covid, but just to keep the intimacy buffer). Our server was pleasant, but as we came to experience during the evening, she became increasingly mechanical and hurried. More on that later. Cocktails came quickly (as did everything else, which was good, then not so good). They were solid. We ordered bread service. Out came an assortment of different warm, fresh-cooked breads along with four creative spreads (goat cheese, a jam, sundried tomato, and pimento cheese, plus butter). This was the highlight of the evening, and we probably attacked this course a little too aggressively. :) That's where things started going downhill. We shared a Caesar salad and the bacon stuffed dates with blue cheese (which I am always a sucker for). My wife and I are picking through the salad and I'm like, "is there any dressing on this at all???" to which she replies, "not much." Honestly, it was the most lightly dressed Caesar I've ever had. The presentation of the dates was fine, but the bacon was a little too crispy for this dish, something I have rarely experienced. So, a "D" on the Caesar and a "B-" on the dates. It was not two minutes after our apps were cleared that the main courses arrived. I think most people like a buffer between apps and mains to take a breather, soak in the atmosphere, etc. But based on the temperature of my wife's lamb loin w/ ratatouille, these dishes had been ready for a while and were just idling while we finished up the apps. Ahead of that, our server inexplicably tried to make "more room" on one side of our table (not necessary) by taking the row of spreads and begin placing them onto the open space on the bread plate. We had to stop her midway and ask her to put them back where they were because it accomplished nothing and made the bread plate too cramped. Now back to the entrees. The lamb was disappointing ("unremarkable" is the word she would use). Meanwhile, my braised beef over penne pasta was just so "blah" that I was literally mostly eating it so I could enjoy the goat cheese in the dish. Perhaps a broth or a sweeter sauce would have livened the dish up. No, I'm not a chef - I'm just a very frequent diner who knows what would have worked better for me. After hitting the wall with these dishes, they were cleared and our now somewhat robotic server quickly dumped two dessert menus on the table, then returned about one minute later to see what we wanted. We had to ask her to give us a minute - we hadn't even looked yet. We decided not to risk another disappointment and passed on dessert, after which our check showed up about a minute after that. I looked at my phone - we'd only been in there for an hour and 20 minutes. A meal like this, with cocktails, a bread course, two apps, and two mains should have taken a good half hour longer, particularly on Valentine's Day. I'm guessing that the restaurant was trying to turn the tables over every 90 minutes to squeeze in as many guests as possible. And as I noted up front, all that did was take the shine off of what should have been a relaxing, romantic night out. I know Tim G. has a good reputation in town and we're open to exploring another one of his establishments (have had my eye on Quanto Basta). But last night was not great execution, and I hope the feedback is taken constructively. read more

I came here a while back for a solo dinner just because! I had been wanting to try this place for awhile. I went on a Wednesday around 6pm, so had no problem getting seated immediately. I opted for a lounge area seat on one of the low couches/tables right next to the bar. I started off with the spring street sunset bliss (reposado, brown sugar syrup, pineapple, orange, grand marnier, and dehydrated lime) which was delicious but honestly, for the price ($22), I did expect a bit nicer/neater presentation (see photo). For my entree, I opted for the mushroom crepes but was accidentally served the mushroom toast instead/first. The toast was delicious though! I really enjoyed the crepes too, the side of tomatoes and cheese was amazing. I also ordered the exotic flickering embers for my second round, and that came out looking much better than the sunset bliss (tasted great as well). All in all, I had a good experience here. Surprising on a Saturday night they weren't too busy. Drew was our server. We were seated upstairs. We ordered the tortellini Mac and cheese, Reverse seered rib eye, Bison meatloaf and the pizza appetizer. The service was good, and the ambience was quiet. The food arrived and it was tasty but it was just above room temperature. The Bison meatloaf was very moist and filling with a huge portion. The tortellini was incredible and super addicting! So glad we found Spring House Restaurant, Kitchen & Bar in Winston-Salem. We've passed by so many times downtown and never really knew what it was until a little research, and so pleased that we did. Spring House is a southern dining, southern atmosphere of eating in a....house. Many private rooms, whether it was for dining or personal events, and also outdoor patio seating. The food was absolutely amazing. It's a modern form on southern cuisine that doesn't stray far from the comfort food that we know. The menu is seasonal & list of cocktails are plenty. We really enjoyed this restaurant and will absolutely return. We loved the hospitality that began with host to our super kind server. This is a place to come dine, host an event, or even just lounge. We came on a busy night when they had private party so they ran out of a few things like the bread but they didn't charge us for it and gave us complimentary desserts. Our waiter was amazing with giving us updates on our order and making sure we were ok despite having a long wait. When the food came out it was hot and fresh. The salmon entree was a winner at our table and I really enjoyed my risotto. It was creamy and the seafood was cooked perfectly. Made it to springhousews for a nice dinner last night with friends. This was my first time experience! Its located in downtown, close to the big library, in a historical white house kind of hidden if you ask me, large beautiful patio area in the front, when you walk in your greeted and seated by hostes.  We started off with some cocktails, of course, mine was a "mocktail" the - Orange mango "Crush"(orange, lemon sorbet, mango nectar) super refreshing, the cocktail and wine menu looked suburb aswell. Next was our sharables, we went with the bread service and tried all the dips, like honey bacon jam,  whipped goat cheese(my fav), pimento cheese, and sun dried tomatoes. Had a few more sharables like creamy burrata that had peach jam, truffle honey and toasted almonds on top, the crispy eggplant medallions(mixed with ricotta and honey drizzle), super delish, and at this point everything was pretty much filling us up, but why not try more, lol , we tried the pizzete bianco(topped with three cheese, prosciutto, arugula, pickled peppers and eggplant capontata).Believe it or not the beef brisket birria quesadillas were excellent, never had them with gouda cheese. Soup and salad was in the mix as well, like the sweet potato laska and candied beet salad, we also ordered the lamb which I didn't get a chance to try, but it looked delicious. We topped it all off with dessert, which honestly I don't know what the dessert was called; they surprised us by bringing that out for our dear friend's Birthday.  Overall great experience and super nice place for a dinner date or friends date, and as far as the pricing, it is a little more expensive, but it was worth it due to the quality of the food, we will come back for sure. read more

Another dinner at Spring House knocked my socks off! We went for girls night and ordered what felt like, everything on the menu! :) Burnt ends - amazing. Corn fritters - fantastic. Burrata - wow. Bread service with all the above - forget about it! Every small plate was delicious and great portions to share with the table. The entrees were equally as delicious. I highly recommend Spring House for date night, girls night, special occasions or just because. Their menu changes seasonally which I love. I'll definitely be back. read more

I can't say enough how much we enjoyed our night here! Everything we ordered was amazingly well thought out and executed and the service was outstanding! We had Logan taking care of us and he was just fantastic! Even the bread service accompaniments were unbelievable - especially the Honey Bacon Jam OMG Amazing! INTRO: Spring House is one of the hidden gems of Winston-Salem. Although this restaurant looks like it should be located on the outskirts of town - out in the countryside and near farms - it's actually found in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem. Spring House offers a unique, fine dining experience combined with the convenience of a short drive into the city. APPETIZER: Bread Service ($15.95) - An assortment of breads that comes with 4 different spreads, which includes sun-dried tomato tapenade, whipped goat cheese, honey bacon jam, and pimento cheese. I didn't find the breads to be particularly exceptional, and the spreads were fairly mediocre. Not really worth the $16 if you compare it to the complimentary breads and spreads you get from other mid- to top-tier restaurants. 3/10 ENTREE 1: King-cut Bison Meatloaf ($24.00) - Extremely tender and packed with flavor is every bite. The meatloaf was perfectly seasoned, not too bland or too salty, and I was honestly impressed with the portion size at the given cost. 8/10 ENTREE 2: Pappardelle Pasta ($23.00) - The chicken was quite dry and felt that most of the moisture of the chicken had evaporated. However, the pasta itself was extremely flavorful, and the sauce that they used was creamy but not overwhelming. I felt that the pasta would have been sufficient without the chicken. 6.5/10 DESSERT: Warm New England Brown Sugar Cake (Complimentary) - A warm, rich brown sugar cake topped with vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle. You honestly can't go wrong with this combination. 9/10 VENUE: From the outside, you can't really tell that the building is a restaurant. It looks more like a boutique hotel more than anything else. However, once you enter the building, you'll be amazed at the elegant interior decor, which closely resembles a snapshot of an upscale restaurant from Eastern Europe in the 1980s. Their beautiful decor is definitely representative of their tasty meals. PARKING: Street parking is available since they don't have their own parking lot. WORTH IT? YES, if you're looking for fine dining with generous portions and without breaking the bank, Spring House will NOT let you down (Overall 7.5/10) read more
