First time trying this place out. Driving by it looked a lil dingy so I had never stopped in, but I was searching for a good fish n chips in the area and this place popped up. I walked in and the guy server didn't say hi, no welcome walked passed me several times so I asked the lady and she said sit anywhere I'd like. She was attentive and quick. The food was surprisingly really good, the fish was fresh and the breading was perfect. It was lightly breaded and not a heavy dish. The place has plenty of tvs and is a pretty cool spot. The atmosphere, the food (and somewhat unique menu for a bar &grill) the clientele, the bar, and mostly the AMAZING SERVICE all are wonderful. We have been there twice now and have been fortunate enough to have had Brandon as our server both times. My husband is wheelchair bound, and our service dog Ace, a long haired German Shepherd, is also alpart of our party. Both times we've visited, Brandon has seated us all and made very sure we had enough space for us all to be comfortable. As only a great server does, Brandon even remembered our cocktail choices from the prior visit a few weeks earlier! All in all, Springbok is an excellent choice if you're looking for a casual and tasty atmosphere. I've been meaning to try this place for years... Enjoyed a chill evening watching Dolphins vs Chiefs. Mostly an older crowd, the vibe was friendly and laid-back. Small parking lot w/ street parking. Though not in the nearby neighborhood. Check those no parking signs. The menu had a lot options--OJ, all-day breakfast, wings, fries, grilled chicken, and a burger patty for $55 (cash gets a 4% discount). We love this place! Great spot for an early lunch. The Chicken Peri Peri was so good! So many flavors that melted together. The samosas were amazing and the salad that served alongside it was delicious as well. Mustard based dressing I believe. So damn good. And my go to, the Philly cheesesteak sandwich was as I expected. My husband and I love coming here whether it's to watch fights and enjoy watching it while having a couple drinks + food to date night just us or with the whole fam 3 kids included we love coming here. The food is great we love the buffalo chicken wings basket of fries and the Philly cheese steak! Also their rack Of ribs plate is honestly delicious ! I love the vibe here! The food is amazing and they sometimes have comedy nights, games on and music blasting. I love the sampler. It has a little bit of everything. The calamari are flash fried so they are super crispy. The bangers and mash are so good too. Wings are meaty, and the Mac and cheese balls are heavenly. It even comes with plenty of fries and humongous samosas. I need to come back and taste other items, but for $27 the player is enough for even 3 people. Enough options too. It also has tenders that are massive. All the sauces are bomb. The service is great too. Everyone is very friendly and you just feel good here. Check the specials at the bar. Don't ever show up. We were traveling and there was a variety of different bars and places to do karaoke not only do they shut the karaoke down early despite the advertisement and phone calls, the night bartender is also apparently: the manager and in charge of security. They don't let you in if she decides she has to go home early the door is going to get locked so don't even bother showing up after 1:30 a.m.. obviously that's late but you could imagine that if you can't get a song at the very least you'll be able to order but that's not the case here they say to but they really mean 1am. It's not the end of the world but you should know this is not a spot worth wasting your time after midnight and the owners probably don't know this she's probably been killing their business for a long time. It's very pointless to even bother, they might as well shut down at 12, she's in charge. She doesn't put up with anybody's business. Any Travelers out there should pay attention and avoid this place... luckily we went to a different spot and got great service so people in Van Nuys, you're not stuck going to this atrocious spot. I'm very happy that I didn't actually have to get service from this terrible person she just wants to go home and live a life (which I don't blame her). She is just is in the wrong business and has been locking the door for years (prob) and the owners don't know and they're advertising on Google it's open till 2:00 but don't show up after midnight or maybe one...depending on her mood. Long story short you can't even get in the building and you'll be yelled at by patrons that have been coming here for years and the security guard finally open the doors a nice person but you can't get in don't even bother showing up after 1:00 terrible business practice probably a nice place inside but I'll never know neither will my party. What a trip! I love when this happens. You come upon a place with little (or low) expectations. Explanation: we were in the area and hubby and son picked it. I would not have. Exterior looks like a local dive bar'ish restaurant. It is 3 pm on a weekday and not bar time in my book. Hubby has been there before and indicates it is British (as is he). This does not improve anything. Interior: as expected, a sports bar. Food expectations decline. Experience: service is friendly and place is doing a good business. I scour the menu for something healthy to order and it's a struggle, but what do you expect? Some items look positively foreign, until I realize there is a South African flair. COOL! Food: I get the turkey summer salad and it is surprisingly good. My son orders the Jan Van Riebeecks Boerewors Roll - an adventurer! What arrives is a HUGE beef sausage in a perfect roll, full of flavor. A winner. Hubby has the fish and chips, and although they are different than what he is used to, they are delicious versions of themselves. We came during the cinco de mayo weekend and arrived at a good time. As we walked in, we noticed they had an outdoor patio and there was a family with kiddos there. So off the bat, kid friendly. We sat down and waited a good ten minutes before a server approached us and gave us menus. The server was nice but she took for ever to come back and get our order going. Prior to that, we had put in our order for drinks and we waited 15 minutes before they were served to us. I believe this was supposed to be south African cuisine although I'd say it's predominantly American. They did have their take on Durban curry but it's mainly burgers/sandwiches, quesadillas, potato skins, etc. Don't get me wrong, the pastrami sandwich was the best I've ever had, the veggie burger was good but the patty I believe was rice based which is a little odd to me. They were out of lamb, brisket, some sauces, and a few beers. The one and only woman working (besides the cook) at the time of my visit appeared to be the bartender, the waitress, and the manager. She was fast and friendly. You can tell this place survives on its regulars, bar patrons, and I'm sure half the reason they come is for her. They give a very generous portion of fish which tastes very fresh and fried perfectly with a light very crispy batter. The tartar sauce is amazing, when they make it how they usually do.
