I had high expectations based on the reviews here but unfortunately this was just ok... borderline "meh" actually. First, the high notes. Service was very attentive. The chowder was legitimately the best I have ever had. Calamari was also pretty good. Unfortunately, the main courses were not good. I got the 10oz prime rib which was served medium rare in spite of my request for medium well. Vegetables and potatoes were average. The boyfriend got the burger. It was just whatever. We waited a full hour until our oyster appetizer was served, waited another half hour until the entrees were provided and the mashed potatoes were cold. All other food was fine. After ignoring us most of the night our server Lily did offer free desert in compensation for the lateness. My wife was looking forward to a slice of flourless chocolate cake; I was going to pass thank you. The free dessert never came after we waited another half hour! Lily never came by, avoided eye contact throughout, and was more than a bit passive aggressive in her manner - it must have been a bad day, but I'm sorry it was also my wife's birthday. Spruce Farm & Fish is conveniently located inside of Hotel Boulderado - an easy place to get a meal for any out of towners staying in the hotel. You can even charge your bill to you room! I had breakfast here while my stay in the hotel. The restaurant is extremely spacious so it's a great destination for those who are looking to enjoy a meal with a group or even if you want a more intimate meal. I had the pleasure of dining at the bar enjoying a conversation with the bartender. She was extremely friendly and very attentive! As someone who loves the delight of having both sweet and savory meals for breakfast I had to try a little bit of everything. I ordered the avocado eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll pancakes. (No I wasn't sharing my meal.) While the avocado eggs Benedict were good the cinnamon roll pancakes definitely outshines them. They were everything I could've ever dreamed of! As guests of the Hotel Boulderado, it was easy to go for breakfast. Hadn't read any reviews or seen the menu in advance, so really did not have too many expectations. Ladies and Gents this is not your average hotel breakfast. I had the fresh spinach scramble with goat cheese. The blending of flavors was unique and delicious. Hubbs had the Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit plate...which really is not appropriately named...and. It's not appropriate for the faint of heart. Two huge, made from scratch biscuits piled high with gravy. Go ahead...top it with Cholula hot sauce and you will feel it going down. He loves hot stuff. Not me...but for him...he was happy. Service was so good we double tipped her...oh...and we're going back tomorrow. Valet parking is available. read more

This dude pours SO much love, skill, and talent into his creations that we walked away from our time with him unequivocally impressed. This restaurant was next to a beautiful hotel. I went during COVID times, but you could eat inside or outside. We ate outside with a heater. The waiter was very kind and the restaurant was flexible in the way that my friend and I are on a keto diet so they gave us Brussels sprouts instead of fries and I got a really good tuna melt without a bun. The prices were a little pricey but it was really good. I even had leftovers. By the way, in that part of town, you will have to pay for parking. read more

It had been quite a while since we ate here.... last time (pre-covid) was just ok... but last nights meal was Excellent! We had prime rib (GF), two thyme chicken dishes (one GF/DF), Beet salad with chicken & Mustard crusted Salmon. All dishes were very good, well prepared & presented. Our two Celiac's had no issues, so good to know they took great care in keeping our food gluten free. The prime rib came out with a glutinous item and once alerted they re-made the dish in record time. The service was also excellent, prompt, & well timed. We had a show to attend and when mentioned she made sure we had our meal and check in time to depart for the show. We will be back! read more

We had a really nice brunch here when friends from out of state came to visit. Dishes are reasonably priced, and made with finesse, so it makes you feel like you're dining in luxury, but it doesn't break the bank. I ordered an egg scramble that had asparagus in it (which I absolutely abhor) and asked to substitute it with another vegetable...they said I could choose ANY vegetable I wanted and they'd probably have it in the kitchen. So I chose the most obscure vegetable I could think of...LEEK (not very obscure, I know). And they had the scramble made for me with freshly chopped leek. Talk about great service! This review is only for the bar and for drinks. We came here for after-dinner drinks for a birthday. We all sat at the bar. We ordered drinks... and I must say that the service was a little lacking. The space was quite empty for a Saturday night so it wasn't as though it was busy. I just felt ignored and almost as though I was inconveniencing the bartender by ordering a drink. Lame. Spruce Farm & Fish is now where Q's Restaurant used to be. The space is remodeled and there is a new chef and a new menu. My family has a tradition of going to brunch on Thanksgiving at the Boulderado, so this year we got a chance to try Spruce Farm & Fish. The service was excellent and even though Thanksgiving can be a crowded day even at morning brunch time, we were allowed to linger comfortably at our cozy corner booth for as long as we wanted to. My breakfast was good. I like to put together side items for breakfast and I liked it that I could order greens with my poached egg and english muffin. All of it was tasty, as was their hollandaise sauce. My brother found it odd that arugula was paired with their chicken & waffle entree but I told him he could simply ask for a substitution or something. He can be inflexible though sometimes. Oh, the joys of family holiday brunch.... My daughter usually orders a fruit plate of some kind and she enjoyed what she ordered. My son enjoyed what he ordered. The coffee was excellent. It would be great if they would consider adding stevia to their sugar alternative sweeteners but that's a minor issue really. We have not yet experienced dinner here, or even seen the menu, but I hear it's good. read more

All 3 of our meals were delicious! We all chose fish -- Mustard Crusted Salmon, Rocky Mountain Trout and Salmon & Shitake Risotto-- and loved all 3 of them. Beautiful branding and marketing - too good, clearly - as the food itself was ridiculously overpriced and overseasoned/buttered. The $30 "medium rare" duck was actually incredibly rare and so chewy that you couldn't really finish a slice (since it couldn't be broken up into small enough pieces for swallowing.) I have no idea how the trout tasted because it was so heavily soaked in ghee that no other flavors were noticeable. Unfortunately, the asparagus and wild rice beneath were also tainted and overly ghee-ed. Two stars because at least the oysters were good (they're hard to mess up in the first place). It's boulder - most of us are already high, so you don't have to try so hard by drenching it in ghee and salt. read more

My wife's roasted chicken was great, fish and chips for me which I enjoyed and our daughter really like her pasta with noodles and parmesan. Fantastic seafood dining in the Boulder area! For appetizer, we ordered the Calamari Ceviche, Tuna Tartare, and the Mediterranean Plate. The tuna tartare was relatively small comparing to the other appetizers. For entree we had the pan seared trout with wild rice and asparagus and also the special pan seared halibut, which was flown into Boulder that same morning from Alaska. I asked for no butter, which they easily accommodated but the dish came with heavy sweet cream on the fish, which wasn't disclosed on the menu. For alcohol, the first two wines I ordered were out of stock so I had to settle for a more expensive less preferred wine. read more

Spruce Farm and Fish has wonderful food, great atmosphere, and unsurpassed customer service. We came here for a birthday brunch. The food and selection was fantastic - tons of creative spins on classic fare like Benedicts, omelettes, and hashes. All super simple foods but done *incredibly* well. What set Spruce apart, however, was the service we received. Our server was incredibly kind and accommodating, as was the rest of the staff. We had an issue with a credit card that got lost between our table and the host stand, so what did he do? He explained to me that he had misplaced my card, he apologized profusely, and explained that the restaurant had already covered the meal. Furthermore, the kitchen reimbursed us with a gift card that covered the cost of our meal and then some. It was a completely unexpected act of kindness in the face of something I didn't even perceive to be a problem - I could always lock and replace my card. No harm done, but our server and the restaurant staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Let's face it, service in Boulder generally leaves something to be desired. That is NOT the case at Spruce Farm and Fish - they have the absolute best service I've received in 18 years of living in this town. We will absolutely be coming back soon. read more

Do not sit by the bar if you are having dinner, bartenders were throwing glass beer bottles in trash = PIERCING NOISE spirals into the dining room. Bartenders forget that people are dining and glass bottle in trash semi thrown hurts your ears.. The mussels appeitzers are AMAZING, ORDER THEM...! The food is so good here. My husband and I felt very safe eating breakfast and dinner here while we were staying at The Boulderado. I had the Basic Breakfas a couple times and the trout twice for dinner. Thats how good these simple dishes were. They seem to be doing all the right things to keep everyone safe.
