Palm Sunday, Port Townsend. Nary a cloud in the sky. Time for a quick Port Townsend flyover. And lunch at the Goose. Headed out for the Spruce Goose to meet up with son-in-law David who would be flying in from Bremerton. Popped by The PT Aero Museum to update our membership. Mr. Frugal and I believe in young pilots. "Give 'em wings, teach 'em to fly, we say. Parked the car in the 24 hour parking area. Sat in the front seat to try to finish reading PT's 2013 Community Read book. ("Contents May Have Shifted" by Pam Houston.) The book will have to wait. The day is too glorious for reading. Later. Popped inside the Spruce Goose where David was chowing down on a mighty fine looking breakfast. Which was lucky for me as all of the other tables were occupied with happy folk also munching their muffins and coffee. "I'll have the special." Scrambled eggs with all sort of delightful goodies wrapped into a perfectly cooked miss-mosh. French fries (homemade) on the side. And a cuppa joe. Perfect! Paid the waitress. (They were fine with my Alaska Airlines Visa.) Tipped her for excellent service. In cash. Okay...okay...David paid the tip. Buttoned up a light jacket. Sauntered over to the (very) clean restroom while David prepped the plane parked just outside. Jumped into the passenger seat. Waved at the waitress and diners.... Taxied to the runaway. Smoothly lifted off. No turbulence...heading outward into the friendly skies of... "So where do you want to go?" "Anywhere." Spruce Goose Cafe, I love you. We have been by this place in the past but have not tried it before. What a mistake, since it is a good place for comfort food. My wife had a Chili Burger and it was loaded up and quite good. I had a tuna melt on rye and it was also quite good. The service was good and there are more items on the menu to try. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on my +++++++70th birthday and was relieved to have a seat at the table in this lovely establishment. I've an easy to please pallate and enjoy a simple egg and toast, my husband - hamburger and french fries. We enjoyed the passing of time easier watching the small aircraft incoming & outgoing, getting hopped up on coffee out on the deck and then celebrating with a slice of pie before heading out. At Jackson County International Airport (well... They fly to Canada...), but no 747's here, and no Howard Hughes sitings either. Good little local cafe at the local aerodrome. Right on the paddock. Folks fly in, taxi up and walk in for a meal. Good breakfasts. Nice variety. Our party got the two egg special, blueberry pancakes, Denver and veggie omelette. They're very accommodating to special requests. Lots of aviation stuff on the walls and model airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Very cool! read more

I probably caught them on an off-day. The crab/shrimp Benedict and the crab/shrimp omelet certainly held the potential for being great based on customers who frequent the establishment. Found both dishes contained shrimp that was cold and the Benedict lacking the tang of a typical Hollandaise Sauce. Maybe the next visit will be better. read more

Google Maps did us right for lunch! Headed south from Port Townsend and this cafe popped up on our route. Stopped in and was greeted by a sweet happy gal with a great smile and cheerful personality. Overall this place felt home and like we were eating lunch with our family. The Monte Cristo was INCREDIBLE - the raspberry jam (homemade btw) is TO DIE FOR. Great little place. Stopped by after looking on yelp for a place to get a bite after a day drive to Port Townsend and to the fort. We were not dissapointed. We both had the fish and chips and they were very good, not too much batter andwere good sized. And I dont really love garlic toast but I could have ate a loaf of theirs. I think its made with texas toast and had the perfect amout of garlic and butter. Another great thing is that its literally on the air strip. Planes are parked just a few yards from the restaurant. It was fun to sit on the deck and watc them take off and land. If I was a local this would definitely be my hangout. Next time I will try their burgers they looked yummy too read more

They didn't have any tables available but the hostess/waitress was kind enough to serve us at a bench in the little playground just outside, which was fine with us. Super awesome because we didn't want get it to go as we were 30+min from our hotel. Great service and interesting views being right on an active airport. We called the Spruce Goose Cafe and asked: Do you still have outdoor seating, because we have a dog? We asked because even though we had eaten there before with our dog, COVID has changed a lot of things and we wanted to be sure. The reply was yes. We arrived, were seated under the toasty outdoor heaters, ordered drinks and then were told we couldn't dine there with our dog. The older blond waitress said she needed to be consistent about their pet policy. Hmm, then why didn't you tell us that over the phone? That would have been consistent and perfectly fine. We would have eaten at the Blue Moose Cafe instead. We were told that we could eat in the kid's playground area with our dog, so we ordered our food to go and sat in the kids playground area at the windy 50 degree picnic table. We wolfed down our food as fast as we could because by the time we finished it was pretty cold. The fact that the food was good while it was hot is the only reason I gave 2 stars, because after the bait and switch about the dog, service gets 1 star or F- for their inconsistency. The Spruce Goose is consistently good whether it is breakfast or lunch. You will always get a good meal. They are one of the only places I know that can make good eggs -- never greasy, perfect sunny side up eggs. I love their patty melt and always ask them to add mushrooms. My husband always orders the Flying Tiger sandwich. They also have a very nice covered deck with heaters. They are located right next to the PT airport. read more

How is it possible I've not reviewed them before? I LOVE these folks and this fine establishment. I get in a plane just to fly here for pie. Seriously, it's worth flying here for the pie. I cajole my flight students into doing a cross-country landing here with the promise of me buying them a slice of pie. It's just that good. I've been coming here for years, lured by the siren song of the last slice of fresh, warm from the oven marionberry pie, sitting there, just waiting to be served on my plate. Sure, there are others... butterscotch, I'm talking about you... or when the fall apples come in from a fresh harvest, sure, I'll cheat just a little, but marionberry, you're my first love and you're always going to be. And no one, I mean no one out there knows how to treat you right, like the staff at the Spruce Goose. Brought my girlfriend up there the other day... she's a Texan through and through. She raved about how awesome the Chicken Fried Steak was for breakfast. Me? I'm more a corned beef hash kind of guy. They're all good, and the daily specials are almost always worth a try. I made a mistake, though... I let her have the last slice of marionberry... and now if she sees my pilot log with a stop at Jefferson County Airport, I sleep on the couch if there's not a to-go slice of pie for her when I get home... Always been a favorite of ours! But even better now. They have put a wonderful roof over the outdoor front deck and heaters are coming soon. So we can continue to get a yummy breakfast or lunch all winter. They are doing a great job following Covid regulations. Ok don't judge me. I went to an Airport Diner on a Saturday morning, read through the menu, specials, etc, and I ordered...the fruit plate. I said don't judge! I had a late night of drinking "strange brews" at the festival in Port Townsend and reallllly didn't want to add more heavy gunk into my system. Anyway. Showed up at 1128, left at 1148. No, I didn't get kicked out or anything, the service was just that fast. My partner got the eggs Benedict so there was actual cooking involved. We didn't tell our server that we were in a hurry, she just took our orders, poured us coffee, and then brought our food out. So the food. I'm super weird about grapes; they have to be firm and not squishy. The grapes in the salad were all perfect. Honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple...all were fresh and juicy and great. The eggs benny (crab/shrimp) was decent. Not the greatest, and by far, not the worst. He got the half order and it was just perfect for one. Hash browns aren't crispy but still have great flavor. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to support a local place with good service, solid food, and a quick kitchen. read more

The best fly-in restaurant I've visited, but you don't have to be a pilot to appreciate it. It's a short drive from Port Townsend and a convenient stop on the way in or out of the "banana belt" area of the Olympic Peninsula. I had an excellent patty melt (slightly caramelized red onions and perfectly toasted bread) and my son enjoyed "the best fish and chips ever" and a quickly-consumed chocolate milkshake. Yep, the 'Goose isn't a great place to go for belt buckle-friendly grub, but as a short-order with table and counter service, and an incomparable view of runway 9/27 with the Olympic Mountains in the background, it's a bigtime winner. Service was very friendly (we sat at the counter with some regulars who'd clearly been there a couple hundred times) although no one was in a hurry to tell us where to sit. It was as busy as possible -every pilot within 50 miles had the same idea on this rare sunny December Saturday -but the kitchen hummed and the staff slung the dishware and coffee refills with precision. Don't forget the Port Townsend Aero Museum, which is just a short walk east. Fascinating one-hangar collection of rare aircraft, aviation art, and hundreds (thousands?) of scale plastic and wood models from various private collections. read more

What a gem this place is! We hadn't read much about it, but figured it would be a good place to stop for breakfast. We were a little surprised to see it was right beside an airport field, but it had great reviews so we went it. Proof of vaccination required for entry, which wasn't an issue. The breakfast was great! The pancakes were super fluffy and the sausage links were wonderful. Coffee was fantastic as well. The service at this place was phenomenal. The staff were super friendly and our waitress, Andrea, was the best. She's so personable and made our day. We enjoyed our conversation with her about visiting various national parks. You know what's cool about this place? It's not just located right on the Jefferson County airport, but single propeller planes literally land, roll over to the plane parking lot just across the lawn from the front door, and walk in for breakfast after flying all morning! Just the experience of the place is worth the trip, but the food and the service was top notch! I even got myself a cool mug!! :D I ordered the mushroom and cheese omelet, my friend got the Denver, and my other friend got the eggs Benedict. All were made fresh and really delicious! Their potatoes are fresh cut "scalloped potato" style and fried up with no fancy spices, just good! My friends and I are tartar sauce fanatics, so of course we asked for a side of tartar, which was REALLY good!! great addition to any pile of hasbrowns/potatoes you may have! The servers were really friendly and always checking back in to refill our coffees, and even put up with our high maintenance mode of splitting our check. I rarely ever go out this way, only when my friend's parent's cabin is open for a weekend, but when I do go back I will definitely spend a couple hours sipping coffee, eating hashbrowns with tartar sauce, and watching planes take off and land! read more
