What an absolute disastrous experience I had here. So many people have recommended this place to me over the years but I've never had a chance to check it until recently. I went on a regular Monday night for dinner with a few friends who have been coming here for years and the first thing that we saw was an enormous line of people that nearly reached the Starbucks next door. I double checked to make sure this truly was a Monday, what kind of restaurant is this busy on a Monday? I would soon find out when I tried approaching the employees to see who I could check in with, a task that proved to be rather difficult since everyone was running around like they were being chased by the devil himself. Finally a lovely young lady approached us and we asked what the madness was all about, and sure enough it was a literal madness special where apparently all food is half off on Mondays. That should have been our first red flag, a successful business wouldn't resort to such cheap and desperate gimmicks but we put our name down anyway and hoped for the best even though our guts were telling us to go somewhere else. We should have listened because what followed was one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. We were sat after nearly 40 minutes of waiting in this extremely cramped table literally rubbing elbows with the tables next to us. None of us were at all comfortable and clearly none of the other customers were either, but hey that's the price you pay for eating at half off. Our server was this absolutely delightful young man named Stephen who, by God, did the absolute best he could given the extremely horrible situation whoever the genius that came up with this half off idea was putting all the employees through. This didn't feel like an inviting, cozy, warming experience that a restaurant should strive for, it felt like a freaking war zone. It took only a short few minutes for our starting salads to come out, which was extremely surprising since we were fully prepared to wait an eternity for our food. You'd think that would be a good thing, but the problem is that our main entrees came out just a few minutes after and we weren't even half way done with our salads. Out table was so small and so much unnecessary stuff was on it like flyers advertising the very special currently happening. We get it, it's "March Madness", you have a giant sign outside that sends the message clearly, you don't need flyers on literally every single table on top of that because that just comes off as tacky and they take precious space. We felt rushed, like cattle being led down the slaughter house. We didn't enjoy our meal with all the noise and chaos around us. We felt especially bad for the employees, nobody deserves to be put through this kind of hell. Despite everything, they still did their best to make things go fine and I commend them for that and made sure to leave a generous tip but so long as this special goes on I am never coming back to this place again. Whoever runs it needs to reevaluate their priorities, because the message these gimmicks send is that you're only desperate to make money, not serve a quality product. Someone who has pride on their product wouldn't be giving it away practically for free. read more

I went to Spumoni last night to meet friends who were already halfway through dinner, and unfortunately the experience went downhill from the moment I arrived. When I walked in around 8:45pm, instead of a simple welcome, I was immediately told to "order quickly because the kitchen is closing at 9." I understand timing constraints, but the tone felt rushed and unwelcoming. I ended up ordering spaghetti arrabbiata without even being given a moment to properly look at the menu. When my food arrived, it was dropped off without a word. No check-in, no courtesy--nothing. The restaurant itself was freezing, and when we asked if the air could be adjusted, we were told it wasn't possible due to the kitchen ventilation, again without much consideration. The atmosphere only got worse. While I was still eating, the staff began loudly cleaning around us. One of the waitresses was chewing food while working and speaking, which honestly felt quite off-putting. To make matters worse, I was seated right next to a half-full garbage can, which made the whole experience even more unpleasant. When we left, no one acknowledged us or said goodbye. I know this place has been on Montana Avenue for a long time and clearly has regulars, but the service we experienced was incredibly disappointing--rushed, inattentive, and lacking basic courtesy. We have dinner every Thursday night. I saw the table cards that said full bar. I told my brother that they have a full bar and happy hour. When we arrived and sat down we ordered a drink. We were informed they only have beer and wine. The table cards were for a restaurant owned by the same person seven blocks up Montana Ave. Ok we can live with that even though it is Very misleading. We ask about happy hour and were informed that happy hour is confined to the bar only. Everywhere else is regular prices. Again, Very misleading. Next we ordered a bottle of Pellegrino. The server came back with another type of water. We informed him that was not what we ordered. He said that is all they had. So why did he say they had it in the first place? So far not a good introduction the the restaurant. At this point we almost left and I was sorry I suggested it. I had pasta which was a bit expensive, and it was just Very average. Not all that good. My brother had chicken which he liked. Our friend had fish that he liked. Service was fine and friendly. Would we go back? NO. Pasta was like chain restaurants at twice the price. Location is nice and some of the outdoor seating was nice. Breezeway seating not so much. read more

I recently dined at Spumoni, an Italian restaurant, and was blown away by the quality of the food and service. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive service, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The menu at Spumoni is extensive and filled with a variety of delicious options, but the standout for me was the pasta. The homemade noodles were cooked to perfection, and the sauces were rich and full of flavor.. In addition to the excellent food, the atmosphere at Spumoni was also delightful. The restaurant is stylish and chic, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for a date night, a special occasion, or a casual dinner with friends. Overall, I highly recommend Spumoni for anyone looking for delicious Italian food and excellent service. It's a true gem and deserves all five stars. read more

Nice to see Spumoni open again after such a long time, too bad the wait wasn't quite worth it. The food tastes absolutely bland now, like there's no seasoning. I had the special pasta that our waiter, who was "italian" and took nearly 20 minutes to finally come to our table, recommended. After he took our order the guy didn't show up again. We had to ask the busboy for our check and it was the hostess who brought it back. From the look of it he only had one other table because he wouldn't leave their side and completely forgot about us. Is it because we didn't spend nearly as much as the other table? We left feeling unwelcomed and unwanted. I miss the old staff who would always make us feel like we were right at home. This new Spumoni feels absolutely soulless. read more

This was the first restaurant I tried upon moving to Santa Monica, and now I'm afraid to try any others, since they likely can't compete! Everything on the menu is prepared fresh and comes in plentiful portions. The prices are VERY reasonable and the quality is superb. I've been on a mission to find good GNOCCHI since visiting Italy 10 years ago, and I finally found the best place - so much variety, too! Even more... they DELIVER, very dependably, and even give discounts for it (usually the other way around!). I order a few meals at a time for delivery, and the leftovers last me all week - lunches and dinner. read more

This should probably be a 3.5, but I'll be generous. Pretty reasonable price for a large pizza w/ 3 toppings... only $14.99! But- they charge for delivery. And of course, add tip to that too. And who orders a pizza without wanting it delivered! The pizza itself was pretty decent for west coast pizza. Nothing crazy special, but not bad. Pretty good crust- tasty, but not overwhelming. I didn't like the way they did the anchovies... but most people don't do anchovies anyway so maybe that's a moot point. Anyway... worth a try.. but maybe find someone who is willing to go pick up the pizza! read more

I live around the corner and have been here quite a few times. The best part of it is that there are tables outside - a rarity in sunny Santa Monica. Inside the restaurant is a bit too noisy for my taste. The food is very good value for the money. Check out the filet mignon - it is available outside the list usually and it is really decent. The Gnocchi Bar is good, too. It is also a very good option for fast take-out. Oh yes, and now they are part of the new American Airlines dining program so you can earn miles. read more

used to be a regular the last 15 years the food quality has gone way down...barely average at best... and the price has gone way up....$11 for kid's mean???? really? spaghetti, pasta very little taste; not authentic Italian at all... the chicken, veggies seem as if they are mass produced.... this isn't an isolated review; kept trying to give it a new chance every few months but this place is the last one I would go to on Montana, you can do way better and cheap for what you get! read more

This has been one of my favorite local restaurants for the 10 years I've lived in Santa Monica. They have been consistent in having friendly and courteous service and consistently good food. The salads are always fresh, The pastas are also freshly cooked and tasty. Their filet mignon however, is inconsistent in that sometimes it's tough and occassionally, it is cooked just right. Overall, they are dependably good, I have taken my friends and family their on many occasions. read more

Some of the best Italian I've had in the LA area. The service is excellent, and the food is great. This place is small, and I can imagine a long line would form on the weekends, but try it out on an off-night and you'll be very happy. The -1 star is just because I was freezing the whole time I was in there, maybe if they put a curtained area inside the door to block the cold air from coming in? You want to dine in a place run totally by the help. The owner could careless what goes on in his restaurant. He is never there personally. The food is not clean. The help seams like they just came off the street and put their soiled hands into your mouth. Do not let this fancy address trick you into thinking your prep chef is like you at home.This is not the place to go for dinner or lunch. read more

Spumoni is a great kid friendly place to eat. The food is not the best italian food in the area, but for the price it is great. It is more of a comfort food, home cooked style. We love eating there, and the wait staff is very friendly, and so accommodating to kids related issues. They have plenty of high chairs, cups with tops and straws, splitt meals without attitude etc. read more

This place used to be good but must have changed management as the food has gone downhill as had the service. The pizza is soggy. The seating is cramped. The sauce has a sour taste. Other dishes are bland. No parking. Definitely nothing special and sometimes worse. While Santa Monica isn't great for Italian you can definitely do better than here. read more

Went there for lunch, staff made unfriendly jokes and made our group feel uncomfortable. I had the sole ( which is definitely not a sole , I know my fish and this was far from a sole ).
