Kinda funny I guess. The prices on the liquor list aren't the prices you pay if you'd enjoy a liquor in a glass with no ice. When you order a liquor "neat," you're charged more than the dollar amount on the cocktail and liquor list. Enjoyed the friendly service this evening,; however, found this pricing a bit unusual. Maybe add an asterisk or footnote or little blurb on the liquor list so customers are informed they'll pay more than the price that's listed and it's not a "computer glitch." read more

We came in during Restaurant Week and decided not to even order off that menu. While service was slow sometimes and they weren't quick to pick up empty plates/bottles from the table, overall they did a nice job. Here's the recap on what we ordered - Corn bread - little too "fluffy" for my taste (felt like I should have been denser), but overall good flavor. Great with the honey butter. Caesar salad - fine. As expected. Duck wings - AWESOME. While they look a little anemic compared to chicken wings, they had amazing flavor (they were in this amazing sweet and spicy sauce) and there were 8 large pieces wings. Surf n Turf - on Tuesday's they have this for $25 instead of the $39. I would be super pissed if I had this at full price. For the amount and quality, only order this on Tuesday. Square 1682 is the restaurant inside the Kimpton Palomar Philadelphia hotel. New American food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. There's also a bar. The hotel's breakfast (included when booking) is here. They do honor the breakfast vouchers and the daily food & beverage credit. If you're staying at the hotel, this restaurant is a pretty good option: it's a convenient and decent experience that won't cost much. If you're not staying at this hotel, it's still an OK restaurant, though I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

I was in Philadelphia on business and stayed at The Palomar Kimpton. Friends were coming in to town to meet me for dinner and we decided to keep it simple and eat at the hotel's restaurant-- and we are so glad we did! My husband and I stayed at the adjoining hotel for two nights, and frequented square 1682 often during our stay. The food and atmosphere were wonderful, but the service is top notch. Rey and Angelo were behind the bar and were stellar! Excellent customer service, awesome personalities and top notch service. We cannot recommend enough! The general manager (didn't catch his name) was very friendly and attentive. You can see his superb leadership shining through the rest of the staff! The place is clean and I like the ambiance. The bathroom is on the 2nd floor but it was clean and had nice body size mirrors which is great for selfies. I ordered a gingerale and I'm assuming it came from a juice gun/machine because it was kind of flat. There's a happy hour menu that ends at 7. From the happy hour menu, I ordered the duck wings and calamari. Both were tasty. There was a special for the surf and turf for $30 which was my entree. The lobster was a little mushy. The steak was tasty. They didn't have steak sauce but it did come with a side sauce that was a good substitute. I also substituted my fries for whipped potatoes which was good. I also ordered a side of the general tso broccoli which was breaded and tossed in the general tso sauce. It did exceed my expectation and was breaded perfectly. I ordered the peach cobbler for dessert. It was basically peach filling with oatmeal toasted on top. I was highly disappointed that it was called a "cobbler". We went there for a Christmas dinner, which was a three course prix fixe dinner that also allowed add-ons. The menu was confusing and I asked the waiter what was included in the dinner. He explained our options and told us we get bread included. Great! Starter courses were good. Dinner arrived and my duck was disappointing. The fat was not rendered properly and it was served skin side down in the sauce, which is a known no-no for preparing duck. I had to cut all the skin and fat off the duck in order to eat it. Gross. My husband got the prime rib and it was really good. Dessert was fine, but nothing to rave over. When the bill arrived I noticed that we were charged $8 for bread. That's $8 for maple butter and two rolls. I asked the waiter about the charge since he told us it was included and he stuttered, appologized for the confusion, and then said there was a charge for the bread. He then asked if we wanted to dispute the charge and I let it go for the sake of Christmas.​ If you are going her for a cocktail, I highly recommend this place. For anything more, find a place thats more consistent...or just avoid the overpriced bread and rubbery duck. read more

A friend decided to have her birthday here and we came a bit early to grab a drink. Walking through the door, we realized we were here before years ago for drinks. We were seated at a hightop table for eight people. This place had a comfortable feel to it in a intimate setting. This menu had a lot of small plates, but almost everyone in our group got the Chef's menu, which was a small plate, large plate, cocktail and a dessert. A decent value for $36. I wanted a variety though, so I went with the small plates. Cornbread, duck wings, and pumpkin ravioli. My wife and I split food, so I don't remember what was just "mine"... She also went with the large jerk short rib, which was extremely tender with decent jerk flavor. I enjoyed the entire meal, but as a fan of cornbread, I felt this was just average. I might have been in the minority in my group, but it was totally acceptable. The cocktails were decent, even though I couldn't pronounce the one I wanted. Cold Brew Boulevardier. Completely butchered the name, but no one made fun of me for that. I think I went with the Legends of the fall next, which had jim beam rye and figs. I'm a huge fan of rye and figs, so this was delicious... Sadly, my wife enjoyed it too and wanted as much as she could take... Which was a lot... Ugh... The weirdest thing was the bathroom situation. Since this was a part of the hotel, the people had to go upstairs and around a corner. Some of our group got lost a few times and we thought about sending a search party, but I'm also not surprised that they got lost... Based on the people, not the directions given... Also, someone through in a stink bomb while eating into the hotel and ran away... We thought it was a gunshot or something and saw people running, until we smelled it. Our friend made a reservation for her birthday here for a Friday night. As soon as we walked in I remembered stopping at this place before for a drink but I think we left without ordering anything. This was before we started going to craft cocktail bars. I liked the atmosphere that was dark and romantic. It was a little bit of a challenge finding the bathroom as you had to walk up a bunch of steps but I eventually found it. Drinks were very creative and tasted like some of the craft cocktails we get from our favorite speakeasy bars. I ordered the apple a day drink which was good but very sweet. Like always I liked my husband's drink better, I think he ordered legends of fall. I like bourbon drinks and it had fig which I also love. I don't know why I didn't order it, but I took a lot of his drink. I ordered the chef's menu. It seemed like a pretty good deal for $36 I got one small plate, one large plate and one dessert. My husband just ordered a couple small plates of his own and we split everything. All the food was very good. The cornbread was warm and buttery. The duck wings were a little spicy but tangy and really liked the sesame flavor on it. I got the pumpkin ravioli because I've been craving it since the one I got at amis was awesome and I wanted more. This was good but not as good as Amis. Could have used a little more brown butter and more pumpkin flavor. We split the jerk short rib for our meal. The short rib was so tender and flavorful and I loved the sweet potato purée that came with it. For dessert I ordered the affogato. Very creamy and I loved the espresso on top- great end to the meal. As a bonus we also ate my friend's apple cobbler because it was given to her complimentary and she didn't want it. The hostess was super cool and our waiter Adam was great. We ordered off the restaurant week menu which included an appetizer, entree and dessert at $40 p/p. I stopped by Square 1682 for a leisurely Restaurant Week 2023 lunch. Their lunch menu is a good deal of 3 courses for $25. I started off with the calamari. They were perfectly fried and mixed with cherry peppers for some heat. The aioli it comes with was a perfect match. It's right up there with the best plates of calamari I've tasted. For my entrée I had the wagyu burger. It's a double patty with bacon and sharp cooper cheese. The problem with double patty burgers is that each patty is thin and doesn't get perfectly cooked to temperature. A wagyu patty should be a juicy medium rare. These patties appeared to be medium and they were not the same juicy goodness of other wagyu burgers I've tried. It was still a delicious burger with the two well seasoned patties, bacon, and plenty of cheese that had enough bite that I could really taste it. But when it comes to wagyu I expect the juice to be running down my hand as I bite into it. There was no juice running down my hand. I had the house made cookie for dessert. A good cookie, but nothing memorable. I work close by and definitely plan to come back to Square 1682 to sample more of the menu. The calamari is the must have every time I'm there dish. read more

The surf 'n turf was cooked perfectly and had great flavor but the ricotta toast was a bit on the bland side. We went for dinner around 6:30pm on a Thursday and were the only ones there. We hung out here for drinks and snacks with friends tonight. It's a comfortable place with great service. No complaints whatsoever in that regard. The food we sampled was decent. Our friends enjoyed the fries and burriata. My wife and I split some chocolate bread pudding which I'd call pretty good but not spectacular. It was a little on the small side and slightly chewy for my taste. Nothing wrong with the drinks though. read more

we went here for a friend's birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. the food was super tasty and it was a fair price for how good it was. the birthday girl ended up getting the chef's menu which allowed tasting of the best dishes at the establishment. she offered us bites of everything and it was fantastic. if you can afford it, definitely go for the tasting menu. it's pretty dim in this establishment, but this is not surprising for a lot of restaurants nowadays. if i'm not mistaken, i believe it's black owned, so it's a plus to support someone that looks like myself. i could be totally wrong, but i swear i saw this somewhere? it's rather small so you may need to do a reservation. read more

This is a nice restaurant with a varied menu, delicious drinks, and great appetizers. Our waitress was extremely friendly, kind, and helpful. For an appetizer, absolutely get the whipped burrata or the duck wings. Both were incredibly flavorful, well-cooked, and filling. We chose the chef's special (appetizer, entree, and dessert for $35) and went with the surf n turf. The lobster was rich and the filet was filling and tasty (I couldn't finish the last few bites) but a bit salty and slightly overcooked. Our service was incredible but it did slow towards the end of the night and we waited about 45 minutes between finishing our meals and getting dessert. The desserts looked great but didn't have much flavor and I think they were left sitting out/forgotten about and they were lukewarm. I'd definitely come back for drinks and appetizers! read more

Ultimately, Square 1682 rates in a standard "hotel restaurant" quality for us. As with the Kimpton hotel it's located within, the service was excellent. We popped in later in the evening looking for snacks, and we had our dog, so we needed to sit outside. The staff didn't complain one bit about us being the only table outside that would need a server. In fact, everyone we encountered was over-the-top pleasant! They even brought our dog a bowl of water and a little plate full of treats! So, as far as service goes, Square 1982 gets 5 stars in my opinion. The food was decent, overall, but nothing truly remarkable. The duck wings were pretty good, with a sweet and sticky sauce. Meat was perhaps a little tough, as I struggled with getting all the meat off of the bones, but flavors were good. The hasselback potato side was tasty. It was my first time having one of those, and it reminded me of scallion potatoes in both flavor and texture. Not sure which came first: the scallion potato, or the hasselback potato, but I'm glad they both exist. It was enjoyable...and huge. The brussels sprouts were pretty standard for fried brussels. Nothing to drool over, but not bad by any means. The hummus was pretty good, as well, but the fried pita slices made the dish a little too heavy in my opinion. Overall, though, Square 1682 hit our expectations and the spot for a nightcap of snacks. It might've been nice to have a smaller portion menu for this particular time in the evening (9:30-ish), as the serving sizes are too large for 2 people. We left in a food coma and still wasted more food than I'd like to admit. That said, while I think the food is a 3-star experience, the prices are fair, the drinks are good, and the service was impeccable. So good, that the service is the primary reason we'd be willing to stop in again! read more

We looked up some places online that were being festive for the season on Philly and this place came highly recommended. The place has intimate lighting and might be a nice place to bring your honey. We had reservations and were immediately taken to a table (I note this just because sometimes you go to places and even with reservations, it takes a while to get seated.) However from there, it took a while for us to be offered water or drinks. We had an ok time, I ordered the red snapper which was cooked well but under-seasoned so I was a little disappointed. The apple fritters dessert seemed a hair away from being burnt but I enjoyed them...I didn't enjoy the sauce that came with it. Unexpectedly tart but not in a good way. The cocktails we're STRONG...bang for your buck. Despite the food being just ok, the atmosphere was nice and we did have a good time. There was a lot of mix up with the bill at the end and I am glad I actually scanned it before just putting my card down. It actually took 3 attempts for the additional charges to be removed. The service was good and quick and the food was good also - I ordered the Lemon Blueberry Ricotta pancakes and they were yummy - I just wish they offered turkey bacon or turkey sausage... It wasn't too busy, and they were very accommodating about us pushing our reservation back a bit when we were running late. Our server was also very friendly! I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which actually was not on the menu, but I mentioned that I was hoping for something of that nature with eggs and bacon and cheese and they went ahead and made it for me!! This was awesome and so nice. They put scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese on this amazing biscuit that came with a side of hash that was crispy and delicious! Other items included the peach French toast, blueberry ricotta pancakes, the burger, and the chickpea burger. Everyone had positive things to say!! Square 1682 is a good middle ground spot in the Rittenhouse area. It's nice without being pretentious or fancy. It's reasonably priced without being ridiculous in either direction. There are healthier options where you can still enjoy something tasty. The staff is friendly and down to earth without being snooty. It's also not going to be that knock your socks off dining experience either though. It will be a place that you can get an omelette on the lunch menu that's served with a salad. The cocktails are supposed to be hand made. There are no draft beers, but an ok local can selection. It's a good wild card when the cards are right. read more

Drinks (ice tea, coffee) took another 15 minutes and he did not bring enough creamer for all. We waited another 20 minutes to place our food order with no refill on coffee, tea, or water. He spent more time standing at the wait staff stand than paying attention to his customers. The other staff was great at taken care of us. We may have just picked a bad day with minimal staff, but will likely not return or recommend this restaurant. read more
