Best Keylime martini in the Florida Keys! We stopped to have lunch at the Square grouper in Islamorada on our way to meet friends in Marathon. We had an awesome server Katie who recommended the Keylime martini since I was torn between two drinks. I'm so glad I took her advice since it was the best Keylime martini I've ever had. As we were traveling all week throughout the keys, I tried all the Keylime martinis in the restaurants and none of them could top the Keylime martini at the Square grouper in Islamorada. On our way out of town the following week we just had to stop by again so I could get the best Keylime martini around! Not worth the wait at all...worst breaded chicken we have ever had out. The breading and sauce were sparse, sweet and strange in flavor. The rice was very mushy and also strange in flavor, nothing on the broccoli rabe, just steamed. The special yellow tail bites appetizer tasted way too fishy and the $38 lobster truffled mac & cheese tasted cheap, bland, where was the truffle and the Florida lobster in it was boiled, bland and chewy/rubbery with no other seasonings. Our cherry cokes had too much grenadine and no cherries added. The bread pudding desert was good, but other than that you couldn't pay us or even give us our meal's free to get us to EVER go back. Waste of money, time, calories and two stomach aches in the morning. NEVER AGAIN. Don't buy the hype or the pleasant ambiance. Highly disappointed. :( read more

Excellent meal at the square grouper! I attended with my boyfriend and another couple. We were seated by the fireplace while we waited for the table, where we received drink service. Cocktails were well liked by all. Once seated, the waitress was very attentive and friendly. Three of us has the Pasta bowl with key lime butter - AMAZING! A very unique taste, something I've never seen anywhere else. The fourth had a steak dish which he much enjoyed as well. We will certainly return here whenever we visit the keys! read more

We loved the place and the food was delicious. A very modern and beautifully decorated restaurant, different from what we are used to seeing in Islamorada. Second visit... first (day after opening) was only mediocre - both staff and food. Tonight was thoroughly impressed with both. Excellent service (Matthew) for both drinks and food. Coconut shrimp and grilled oysters appetizers were spectacular. Homemade black bean / tomatoes / roasted red pepper soup was best I've ever had anywhere. Panko encrusted yellow-tail over wild rice with citrus butter sauce was remarkable. Should be able to rate more than 5 stars! Many restaurants in Islamorada will have to improve their game to compete with the Square Grouper. Only downside is not enough boat docking space for the water crowd. I own a local resort and will be recommending this place to all. Congrats!!! read more

Great new addition to the Islamorada restaurant scene. While we love fish, the local presentation can get to be the same old, same old. This place has a whole new feel. For a starter we had multi-color roast cauliflower with a green aioli sauce. I had grilled yellowtail snapper with a light, fresh slaw, sweet potato fries and a lovely house salad with a house maple Dijon dressing. My husband has almond encrusted grouper with a pineapple-mango sauce, broccolini and shoestring fries. I also tried their jalapeño watermelon margarita. I loved finding this new place. The location is understated, but the inside of the restaurant was beautiful. I know come season we will not be able to get in , so I plan to go several times this summer. The menu was interesting....I hate average food when I go out. We had the baked cheese appetizer with dates and rosemary....excellent. I love when a restaurant knows how to cook fish, and the yellowtail with panko was awesome. Our waitress, Kim, was excellent....and it turned out she was out neighbor. Very local feel, but very upscale also. Can't wait to go back. read more

Very nice experience. We sat at the bar for dinner. Bartender was friendly and attentive. It was great to see Gluten-free options listed on the menu. We ordered the cauliflower app, it was very tasty and presented nicely. I got the special, panko crusted yellowtail and my wife got the gluten free almond crusted grouper, both were excellent. The grouper and yellowtail were both extremely fresh and perfectly cooked. The ice cream sundae for dessert ended the meal perfectly. We will be coming back. read more
