We spotted by to grab pizza for dinner on a Friday night and opted to try the Lemon Pepper Pie with white sauce, crispy fried chicken, lemon pepper seasoning and topped with ranch and scallions. Loved the lemon pepper with the fried chicken, it's definitely a unique combo of toppings for pizza and we wanted to try something different. Square Pie Guys specializes in Detroit style pizza which has a thicker doughier crust with a nice crispy edge. The slices are thick with plenty of cheese on top which makes the pizza super hearty and a slice is enough to share between 2 people. We'll have to try the other pizza flavors as well. While we liked the white sauce lemon pepper pie, ultimately I'm still a bigger fan of red sauce pizza. This spot feels like a neighborhood hub... and also a lifesaver for hungry locals (and the occasional "tourist with a stomach"). Fremont could really use a pizza place like Square Pie Guys. So I'll just ask the important question up front: when are you expanding to the Fremont or Tri City area? I'm ready for better pizza options in my neck of the woods. First off, I love the space. It's clean, bright, and surprisingly open for a place with limited seating. The staff was super friendly too. I did have a slight struggle with the self service touchscreen ordering, but hey, nothing builds character like trying to place an order while your stomach is doing loud math. Now, the pizza options are impressive. I'll be honest, I wasn't fully convinced about square pizza at first. But after some intense lobbying from a hungry 6 year old and 10 year old, my hands were tied. We went with the classic kids pepperoni because sometimes you don't experiment, you survive. To round it out, I grabbed crispy wings for myself and a Caesar salad for the boss (if you know, you know). The pizza came out blazing hot with crispy edges, which is basically the love language of good pizza. The cheese to sauce balance was on point, and the cheese pull was next level. The real surprise for me was the crust. Crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft and airy inside. Add that salty, slightly spicy pepperoni situation and suddenly I'm asking myself if I really need to share. Can I get another slice, or should I just pretend I didn't hear my kids? The Caesar salad was refreshing and well tossed with a solid amount of dressing, cheese, and croutons. The baby arugula gave it some extra personality and honestly upgraded the whole thing. The boss absolutely inhaled it faster than I could ask how it was, which is extra impressive considering she "was still full" from clam chowder earlier. Sure, sure. The wings were simple in the best way. Hot out of the fryer, crunchy, lightly salted, and perfect for snacking while you wait for the next slice of pizza to magically appear. There are other wing flavors, but I stuck with plain because sometimes classic is undefeated. They've also got other food options plus beer, which feels like a thoughtful nod to every parent who's been negotiating with children since 7 a.m. Only downside is seating. For a space this big, seating feels a bit limited, so it could be tricky with a larger group. If it's not raining, the outdoor seating with the bay view and people watching would make it an even better experience. Detroit style pizza is one of my favorite types of pizza and this place delivered! There was no line (despite the place being packed) and we ordered quick. The food came out within 10-15 minutes and the seating outside was nice. We were a group of 4 and got the Ellen Supreme and P-Lo Pies and they were so so so good. The Ellen Supreme was packed with caramelized onions, pepperoni, mushrooms, pickled peppers and Italian sausage. We got their ranch on the side and it was the perfect compliment! The P-Lo was loaded with toppings and the spicy ranch on top was delicious. It's also topped with fresh basil which was a nice off-set to the rich flavors of the toppings. Came to Pie Guys at 4PM on a Sunday and it was PACKED (probably because it was Super Bowl weekend). But the space is pretty roomy with tons of outdoor seating and an ocean view that makes the wait worth it. We ordered the Plo pie and the pepperoni, and both were very cheesy and easily some of the best Detroit-style pizzas I've had. The Plo pie was loaded with toppings, and the hot honey added a sweet kick with spicy ranch drizzled on top. The pepperoni was definitely my fav. The pepperoni cups were crispy and flavorful. Third time here because I love their gluten-free deep dish pizza! Prefer the red sauce over the vodka sauce. Vodka sauce lacks flavor. Red wine vinaigrette as a side dipping sauce was an amazing extra. Only con is they have one ordering machine and when that is being used, a worker takes your order. The worker was acting very inconvenienced by having to take orders, even though people were fine waiting their turn on the machine. Their ordering policy shouldn't make customers feel bad for ordering. I noticed her having the same attitude with all other customers. Unfortunately my sister is gf and df and the menu has both but the gf crust has dairy in it and so my sister had to sit and watch my mom and I eat because we had already ordered ours by the time we found out. So for this reason I docked a since that was the main draw for us that day. I was also disappointed they didn't have black olives on the menu, since this is usually one of my regular topping. So I settled for pepperoni and mushroom and added my mom added grilled onions when I mentioned onions which were very small pieces of fried onions so prob not worth the extra money. But we enjoyed the pizza enough to eat two thick ass pieces of pizza lol. Had lots of cheese which I love and had nice crispy sides. Mushrooms were not sliced so ended up bring a bit of a strange texture. And the pepperoni curled up so got a bit burnt which is not my favorite. Our boys were craving pizza so we decided to check out Square Pie Guys. I'm really glad we did. The interior of the shop is very warm and inviting. The high ceilings and white walls make the space seem very large and even though it was crowded during our time, we didn't feel cramped. It also helps let sound travel a bit so it doesn't get too loud in there. You order via a touch screen upon entry. They do not take your order in person. They do, however, have runners who bring your orders out and are very happy to help with anything you need during your dining experience. I didn't feel like customer service was dead here. In fact, the opposite. It felt like they realized it would be best utilized after the ordering process (I agree). Now, for the food. It was great. I recently came to love Detroit Style pizza and this is very close to that but with really fun, unique flavors. I just wish they offered their half & half flavor combos all day and not just during the lunchtime. My wife and I wanted to try some of their unique flavor combos but my kids wanted pepperoni & cheese. Would have been great to just get a half & half for them and then full sized pizzas for us. Needless to say, even though we loved every bite and ate our fill, we ended up having just shy of 2 full pizzas at the end of our meal (we ordered 4 not being sure how big they'd be/how much our kids would eat) and, despite us being on a roadtrip, the food was able to keep from hotel refrigerator to hotel refrigerator for several days. The pizzas tasted just as good cooked in the oven as when we ordered them that night. I think that shows how great the ingredients were. In all, while there might be more 'authentic' or 'historical' pizza places throughout San Francisco, if you want to try something fresh, new, and hip, look no further than Square Pie Guys. I really hope that one day they make their way all the way down to Los Angeles where we live so that I can get them more often. Our kids don't do sauce, so a sauceless cheesy bread is the obvious win for them -- good cheese and the same crisp, browned edge as the pizzas. The smart part: they include a side of sauce, so the rest of us can spoon it right onto the cheesy bread and basically get the full pizza experience without committing the whole order to sauce.
