I really enjoyed the Detroit-style pizza at Joyride! My only wish is that they offered more flavors by the slice. The single-square options were limited to cheese, pepperoni, and spicy pepperoni, while many of the specialty pizzas sounded more tempting. After much thinking, I went with the Greek Veggie pizza, topped with artichokes, tomatoes, onions, olives, and basil. The combination of flavors was fantastic, but what really stood out was the crust. It had that perfect Detroit-style texture, soft and fluffy on the inside with crispy, caramelized edges. I'm not particularly loyal to either thin-crust or thick-crust pizza. As long as the crust is well-toasted and has a satisfying crunch, I'm happy. Joyride definitely passed the crunch test! Ordering was quick and easy at the counter, and my pizza was ready in about 10 minutes. If they ever decide to expand to So Cal, I'd be first in line to visit. read more

First tried Joyride Pizza (not to be confused with Joyride the candy brand, Hi Ryan & Hailey! Love your candy) at a YEE about a year ago?! I wrote a separate review for that event. Recently re-visited Joyride Pizza on Market St., and instead of their pizzas, I decided to try their wings! Chicken wings! Yay! Comes with 6 pieces, piping hot, and meaty! They were so hot that I burnt the roof of my mouth! And my fingers. So good tho. Crunchy (a little bit bouncy, they may not be deeply fried?), slightly oily, and really hot! Make sure you dip them into the ranch dressing so it can cool down a bit. Small store with a little bit of space for eating in and mostly take out. They have a few outdoor tables for al fresco dining, but who dares to do this on Market street? Okay, maybe it's better now but I'm still a bit weary. You may be a lot more brave! I had this pizza 6 weeks ago and I keep thinking about it. I was staying at the hotel down the street and needed some food post airplane ride. It really hit the spot! The restraint itself is small, but it's inviting! There are only a few seats inside and out, so we decided to take our food to go. We ordered at the kiosks and paid there, so ordering is so it yourself and easy. It was so hard to decide what I wanted! I went classic and went with the YOLO Roni pepperoni. After a long day at a wedding my fiancé and I wanted late night eats but didn't feel like walking down Market Street and after looking around we found Joyride Pizza. It's a small Detroit style pizza joint that has choice pizza! We ordered our food to go, and it took a good minute to find it, but our directions took us to the back of the building. While my fiancé waited in the car I ran out to find the entrance. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night, but what do you expect in a busy city? Everyone has somewhere to be. The restaurant was small, smelled good, and bright! I was welcomed with a smile and asked for our order, and it was already bagged up! I couldn't wait to take a peek at the pie and shoot, when I opened it up it was beautiful! We ordered the Pestorrific (Smoked chicken, applewood smoked bacon, mozzarella & brick cheese, topped with pesto and ranch) and the Garlic Knots. I have to admit I'm a sucker for a good pesto and this pie didn't disappoint! The bread was soft and spongy with a nice crunch from the crust. The toppings were full of flavor and so filling! Grabbed some late night Joyride Pizza on my recent SF trip. Looks like they have a few locations in the area. I ordered online and got the build your own with a few toppings. Side of ranch is a big enough for the whole pizza (coming from someone who drowns their pizza in ranch). Pizza was pretty good! The crust was a little soft for my liking but still good. It came to $37, and I would say it's definitely not big enough for two people. Two things I would note: *You can't write any notes on the online ordering. I really wanted the sauce under the cheese (don't cancel me!!) *The basil was two big leaves placed on top after baking. I had to tear them up to get little pieces so there was a little with each bite otherwise it would be two bites with a big basil leaf and the rest without. Can either grab and go or dine at their street side tables or the smaller ones inside. I just did pick up but the staff were friendly during our two second interaction haha. Super delicious and filling pizza here. I had just landed from a cross-country flight from Boston and was looking for something tasty and quick. Alas, Joyride was walking distance from our hotel in SF so I grabbed an Individual sized pizza with two coworkers. It was so delicious. The pizza is pretty greasy so def grab napkins! Having 1 of the 2 pieces was just enough before dinner. I saved the other slice for later. Huge slices with some cheese pull action and lots of marinara-- just how I like it. One of the best deep-dish pizzas I've ever had--by far. They have several locations, but I really enjoy the one by the Embarcadero. It's a nice spot to sit at the bar, while some of the other locations don't have much indoor seating (sometimes only a couple of seats). Service is always great, with a very friendly staff. If you're looking for good pizza, this place is it! There's a display case with all the different choices that you can choose from, though for some reason there are some items that they offer in person, but not online when you're ordering a take-out order in advance. Nevertheless, when you arrive, there are a few bench seating outside and a few more 2-tops and counter seating inside, not a whole lot of space if you have a large party. When ordering, it's all on your own with the touch screens; the workers are mainly there to make the orders, not necessarily take the orders, though they do help out if you flag them down with a question or two. The orders are made quickly and efficiently. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bacon Me Crazy pizza. Crisp crunchy-cheese crust on the outside, with just the right amount of toppings. That Blood Orange Soda is everything! The only miss on this visit were the garlic knots and cinna knots. The garlic knots didn't come with marinara sauce as we had thought, same with the cinna knots and lack of that side of choc chip cream cheese. In addition to that, the garlic knots were way too salty for my palate and the cinna knots had an interesting herby star-anise aftertaste to it, I can't put my finger on, though I also didn't care for. Other than that, I would definitely return again to try out the different flavors of pizza they offer! PS - The Lark next door serves this pizza too. I ordered the "personal" size of the Eat Your Veggies. It was just okay (it can't compete with Square Pie Guys by a mile) and was very expensive given my socks weren't blown off. $15 for two squares of pizza. After tax and tip it was nearly $20. After a day at the Giant's game, we were heading to Bart when we decided to stop in for a slice of pizza from Joyride Pizza. The selections of slices were fresh and brightly colored and it smelled spectacular. I ordered the cheese pizza and had them add artichoke hearts, arugula, extra cheese and olives. The inside of the establishment is very small and with a party of 6, we were advised we could take our food next door (or they could deliver when done) to the nearby bar and enjoy our slices and drinks. The crust was thick with a crunchy crust on the bottom and the inside of the crust was soft and cooked perfectly. The arugula was a wonderful addition which added a bite to compliment the rich flavor of the cheese and the zestyness of the artichoke heart. The sauce on the pizza was not put on too thick and heavy, it was just right amount. The 3 slices of pizza we ordered (there were 3 of us) were put in 1 box and when my niece and I were done picking at our slices, my Hubby managed to finish our discarded crusts and the lingering olives and arugula leaves. Just until recently, we did not have anything in our area resembling this type of pizza. I am a fan of thick crust and this pizza spot made me a super-fan. After and evening of adult beverages we decided to grab 4 Joyride Pizzas and take them back to our hotel. I know that sounds like a lot but each person got their own and it was not too much. You could share one but it wouldn't feed more than two people. A friend recommended them saying this is their favorite pizza establishment the city. I can see why they like them. The focaccia dough here is incredibly unique and delicious. I have never had a pizza like it. I ordered the Sweet Bianca and I enjoyed it. The flavors were interesting and it was better than I thought it would be. The leftover piece I had in the morning was actually even better than the night before. I was also able to sample the Buffalo Chicken but I was not a fan. One person in our group actually tossed theirs after only one slice because they said it was just "way too much bread and very little toppings". Also, the price is a little excessive.
