I visited Square Pie Guys in Walnut Creek on May 2 around 5:30 PM. I had previously visited the Oakland location several months ago and remembered enjoying it. The pizza was decent, and the wings were excellent, so I was genuinely excited to try this location. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to my expectations. The pizza was okay, but the chicken was extremely salty and difficult to eat. It also didn't taste as fresh as I remembered from my previous experience. Considering how much I spent, I left feeling like it was a waste of money. I was really looking forward to the meal, which made the disappointment even greater. This may have just been an off day, but based on this experience, I probably won't be returning. I hope others have a better experience because I had high hopes going in. We love Detroit Style Pizza!!! Honestly Square Pie Guys is one of the few pizza joints around here that actually offers something relatively close to the kind we could get in Michigan. The only downside for us is the price because it's still considered a relatively new trend here in the Bay Area, and the price reflects that. In my opinion $25-$30 for 4 slices is too expensive for pizza in our budget, so we sadly couldn't afford to get it as often as we'd like. But yesterday was the last day of their Buy One Get One Free deal, and we didn't wanna miss it! We ordered through the app, and I wish it was a little more flexible. They had some pre-set pizzas to choose from, but you couldn't modify them at all. For example, we don't like Hot Honey on pizza, but if a pre-set came with it, there was absolutely no option to remove it. That felt really inconvenient since we liked all the other toppings and just really wanted to remove literally one. Because of that, we ended up having to build our own pizzas, which honestly wasn't hard to do. With that said though, the confusing part that we found out later was that when you build your own pizza, the extra toppings apparently aren't included in the Buy One Get One Free deal. So we ended up paying full price for all the added toppings on both pizzas, which felt a little misleading and caught us by surprise when we saw the final total cost. That being said, the pizza itself was really yummy. We got a Pepperoni Pizza and another one with Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Marinated Bell Peppers, and Red Onion. Both were super delicious. I loved how fluffy the bread was while the bottom of it still had that crispy crunch. The cheese flavor really came through, and the toppings were super flavorful too. But at the end of the day, it's sadly still a little pricey for us to get regularly, but I really hope they bring back the Buy One Get One Free deal again sometime soon because we'd definitely order again. read more

One of my favorite pizza spots in WC, even though I'm not the biggest fan of Detroit style pizza their flavor combinations make the pizza amazing. The wings are hella good and the garlic fries are always on point. They don't have regular soda in the store but do carry craft soda and some beer. The service is always very friendly but I've only done take out so can't review for those eating there. The ambiance of the store is very clean and modern. I came here for the first time last week on my birthday. I work close by so I met up with my dad and we got our pizza. I had a slice of the Ellen Supreme and slice of the Mush Room one. I should have just one honestly because it's so filling but I couldn't resist since it was my first time. Both of them were packed with flavor and I absolutely loved it other than burning the roof of my mouth. I got leftovers to have my husband try and he loved it just as much, too. The servers here were super attentive and friendly, too. I will absolutely come back to try another pizza on the menu until I figure which one is my favorite. Wings were also solid. Crispy outside, juicy inside and good flavor and not greasy. The stand out to me was the ranch. It had a lemon zest to it and great on the wings. but it also great on the pizza! (Im from california dont hate me) Came here for an early lunch on Saturday and we were the only ones dining in. I ordered on the app and there is no where they have to modify anything (whether you want something extra crispy or extra sauce). We decided to try the pizza during the soft opening. There was a 40% off promotion. My friend had waited almost two hours the day before for her order so I was a little skeptical. The app wasn't accepting orders so I decided to check the website. The app had hours 11:30am-9:00, but the website listed 3:00pm--9:00pm. Ordering opened up a little after 3:00pm. I was bummed to see a number of the pizzas unavailable. The estimated wait time was 35 mins. My partner arrived about 45 mins after the order was placed and he could see our order just sitting there. It was closer to 50-55 minutes for the two pizzas. We settled on the Big Von and Ellen Supreme. The bread itself was very good. The Ellen Supreme toppings were just okay. The pickled peppers and grilled onions were underwhelming. We couldn't really taste the sauce on the Big Von. It was a little doughy. Got a burnt pizza, got hassled for requesting a refund. I'm not a food Karen...I've done 300+ reviews on Yelp, and the vast majority of them are positive, pretty much the only time I leave negative reviews is when service is poor. Ordered a P-lo pizza on 3/27 at 11:00am via their app. While inside, I opened the box and saw the pizza was burnt. I like crispy pizza, when I make it at home I always leave it in the oven for a few minutes longer than instructed. But this pizza was way too burnt for my taste. The onions were completely carbonized, the pepperoni was half black, and the cheese on the sides were completely black. A bit of char is good, but ash and soot was getting on my fingers from just touching it. See the photos and judge for yourself. So they burnt my pizza, no big deal, mistakes happen, I wasn't too fussed about it. I didn't have time for them to remake a new pizza for me, so I would probably have come back another day. I hadn't eaten any of the pizza, so I asked for a refund. This is where they lose me. The employees proceeded to tell me this was completely normal, telling me "its just how Detroit style is!" and how its not burnt, that its "crispy" and this was how all their pizzas were. It was crazy to me that we were all looking at the pizza, how the cheese was completely black...and they were trying to gaslight me into taking the pizza instead of just processing my refund. Later on I looked up other people's photos and they definitely didn't look like mine. I was calm, but passive aggressive/hostile tone from one of the employees just made the whole exchange into an uncomfortable argument. I proceeded to start taking some photos of the pizza, and that's when the employee quickly snatched it and brought it to the back. I only got to take 2 quick pictures of it before they took it away. Only then, did they finally agree to giving me a refund. Then they told me they didn't know how to give refunds, and made me write my name and phone number on a post-it. As I was walking out the door, the employee had to get her last word in and said in a snarky tone that "it was a shame I didn't even try the pizza". Only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 was because I did eventually get my refund. Plus their pizzas do normally look really good (when not burnt). But next time, instead of arguing, just process the refund...it will save everyone a headache. read more
