We came in for lunch today, ordered vegetable pakoras, chicken korma, tandoori chicken and 2 naans. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. We went and inside was nice but so far ever Indian place we have been has been bad or made me sick. This place was goood like awesome the naan bread was made with the real char marks but that made it better and the tandoori chicken was awesome. Chicken tiki Masala was really good. Coming from Texas, I'm used to superb Indian restaurants. New India Gate was OK, but not fantastic. I only ordered two items, so I plan to go back and give this restaurant another chance. The two items I chose were Chicken tikka and Paneer tikka. The spices on the Chicken tikka were good, but the paneer tikka seemed like it was never marinated and the flavor was lacking. I will give this restaurant a second chance and hope that I will be pleasantly surprised. read more

This place has gone downhill big time!! They no longer serve the complimentary crunchy bread with chutney, it was freezing inside (no heat), very little meat in the biryani and the lamb was so tough. I called in an order about 30 minutes prior to closing. As I got home I was pleased to see all the food was fresh and as always, packaged with care. It may sound silly, but just the extra step to wrap the containers in plastic wrap earns big points in my book. No spills and the food stays HOT. Being from out of town, I often use Yelp to locate good restaurants. This place had great reviews so we drove 15 minutes out of our way to give it a try. This place did NOT disappoint. I had visited for first time ordered Togo, chicken Biryani which was "not close to biryani at all" I get like fried rice with chicken . Next the veg biryani which was also same case !! Very nice and charming - food was very good - surprised to see beef on the menu - initially I was concerned about the service (did not start well) but with the switch of the service staff it became noticeably better - bummed that they ran out of all their India beers - love me a cold Flying Horse. Having been to a number of Indian restaurants in the valley New India Gate is one that will come back to again and again. This is my go to restaurant for great Indian food! The service is always so welcoming and the food is so delicious! The employees there is always asking how we are and they are so nice! I get the garlic naan bread, tandoori fish masala, and the tandoori chicken masala. The naan bread is flaky and delicious and there's a right amount of garlic on them! The fish in the tandoori fish masala is moist and not dry and the sauce has fantastic flavor! The chicken in the tandoori chicken masala was a little dry but then again you have the sauce so it balances it out! I will always come back to this place when I crave good Indian food! read more

I wanted a little Indian food tonight, so went to The New India Gate based on recommendations here on yelp... I'm so glad I did! I ordered togo chicken tikka masala and an order of garlic naan-bread (no rice, still doing no or low carb!) As far as spice goes they have a variety of them, but this time I opted for Indian medium (I really thought my head was going to explode because I wanted something between medium and hot, but either I'm getting used to it, it's 108°F outside, or I'm not certain it was just that hot!) The chicken tikka masala was fantastic, so much so I could have drank the gravy it's in! The garlic non-was a little less impressive but sure did make it fun soaking up the gravy I didn't drink (see attached picture). I'm not certain when I'll be in the greater Chandler area again, but if I am and I'm in the mood this will definitely be my Indian goto spot. New India gate is my new favorite place! I've been here 3 times all for their lunch buffet. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant can get busy, but there has never been a wait or not a table to sit at. If you are not familiar with Indian cuisine, they are great about explaining the dishes and flavors. My husband wasn't sure about giving it a shot because he got sick after eating Indian food a few years ago. He was so glad he gave it a try and has been asking to go back! Everything is delicious. Despite my friend warning me, I decided to try this place for Friday lunch due to its heavy weight Yelp ratings. I was very disappointed to say the least. Limited options. Pakoras were oily but not crispy. All the curries were bland. Chicken teeka was like chicken pieces in red cream. Only thing spicy on the buffet was chicken biryani. Taste wise it was ok, but had an over cooked texture. The rice grains were smashed or broken with the chicken. For anyone who likes like spicy AUTHENTIC Indian food, this place is NOT for him/her. The garlic naan was okay but wished it would not have been just four small soggy slices and just out of the oven. The sauces on the vidaloo and korma were flavorable and fresh tasting. What a great Indian culinary delight in Chandler. I wish I had discovered this place years ago. I have a lot of food sensitivities and the owner Gopi was so personable and helpful with his suggestions and can accommodate any restrictions one might have. The first thing you notice at NEW India Gate is not only the new location, but everything is literally new. New plates, utensils, chairs, tables, menus. You name it and it is new. Two knowledgable and loquacious brothers run the place. They seat, take orders, bus tables, serve the food and answer every question about the eclectic menu that is thrown at them. The recipes, however, are the fathers. We decided to sample menu items other than the ubiquitous chicken tikka masala. We started of with the beef samosas. I had never seen the beef variety before. All I can say is "WOW!" Served with mint and tamarin chutney, the delicately spiced ground beef was seasoned perfectly. I would have been satisfied to end the meal right then and there. Next was the Fish Pakora, they were tasty and made with moist white fish. Nothing mind blowing. For the main meals we ordered "Indian Hot" spice level. We ordered: Mushroom Matter (mushroom, tomato, green peas and spices), Chana Masala (garbanzo beans and masala sauce), and Karahi Shrimp (ginger, tomoto, onion, bell pepper served in an Indian copper pan). This place is always so inviting and friendly. The service is amazing. My drink was never half full before it was filled. The naan was always refilled. Plates cleared right away. The buffet is so delicious and has a great meat and vegetarian selection. The best chicken tikka masala I've ever had. My husband loves the desserts. They have rice pudding and the heavenly doughnut like balls. There is even chai included in the buffet and it's so inexpensive for such a huge selection, $7.99 lunch buffet. We've found it! So excited. Love New India Gate. When you walk in you are greeted like friends or family and the comfortable warm decor makes you feel instantly at home. The servers are so attentive your drinks are replaced before they're empty. Restaurants that provide this level of service deserve that fifth star and combined with the excellent food make this a must if you're in the area looking for good Indian. They start off with the appetizer: thin crunchy popadoms and dipping sauces which I really like to start this type of meal. Next we ordered ground beef samosas which were flavorful, the meat tender, and the dough just right in consistency. For my main I had the chicken tikka masala which was like heaven since I have not had good Indian in a while. Just this side of sweet which is fine because the sauce had the exact combinations of ingredients that I prefer. Delicious. I ate every bite and used my garlic naan to soak up the sauce. Oink! Exactly what my taste buds wanted. My better half chose a mild lamb dish called khorani and it came in the cutest warmer! So super tender and flavorful that I might order it next time! The food was served family style which we like because we almost always share. My glass was never more than 1/4 empty, the friendly staff made sure of it. It was nice chatting with several of them until we overheard the folks at the next table raving about the custard. Of course we had to try it! Mango custard, very soft with fruit stirred in. Oh.my.god. So good. I don't think I could replicate it with its lovely taste and so creamy.
