    Chocolate hazelnut cake with figs

Not sure where the negativity and poor reviews are coming from. My experience was great. Friendly server, great value hh, and no weird smells or heat (it was 80s and sunny outside). Most importantly the food was excellent from the oysters to the sides and prime rib. Also tried the Wisconsin fish fry which was not oily but flaky and lovely. Cakes were distinct: hazelnut chocolate and spiced carrot cake were top notch. Honestly overall on par with Bavettes or any other top steak house in Chicago.

Pre-meal: Reservations are advised and are done through Tock. Valet parking available at Aviary or Swift & Sons. Enter through Roister and then down one flight of stairs. Room: Cool Wisconsin supper club vibes! Long bar leads to small dining room. Comfy chairs and tufted banquettes. Picture-taking: Moderate lighting is ok. Beverages: Curated classic supper club cocktails include delicious brandy old-fashioned. There are WBTG and bottles, and a house mocktail. Happy hour is before 6 pm and there are drink specials and discounted oysters (raw and Rockefeller). Menu: Classic supper club items with some upgrades. Prime rib is the main attraction but there are non meat choices. Upgrades include Yorkshire pudding instead of rolls and Robuchon pommes puree instead of mashed potatoes. Food: We had several appetizers. The oysters Rockefeller were delicious - I'm often disappointed by this dish but theirs was really really good - so juicy and succulent. Fried cheese curds are never bad but these were particularly good and so was the house made hot sauce. Crab cakes were tasty. Deviled eggs ($15 each) were good but sticker shock prevented complete enjoyment. Entrees were also very good. Prime rib (from Australian wagyu) was predictably delicious. The cod fish & chips were excellent - as good as any I've had. Pan roasted salmon was perfect. Schnitzel was overcooked and missing the crispy puffy crust. Yorkshire pudding was great as was the Caesar salad. Desserts were good. Carrot cake was a small portion but was tasty and spiced differently (star anise?). Grasshopper pie was ok - the Oreo crust was very tough - difficult to cut through it. Service: Attentive and knowledgeable. Price: $$$$ Value: 2 out of 10 Summary: Expensive upgraded supper club with very good food.

Don't be fooled by the Alinea Group moniker- St Clair is a restaurant with potential that it doesn't live up to. We had the oysters, prime rib, horseradish sauce, mushrooms, carrots, and grasshopper pie. The food was good but with only one entree on the menu (Prime Rib) attached to the name of a celebrated chef it wasn't the "greatest" prime rib. The sides were mediocre. If you've been to true Midwestern Supper Clubs in northern Wisconsin you will be disappointed by the food and you'll be paying West Loop prices for that let down. The service was very good, staff friendly and attentive. Decor / Ambience is nice, though again, it seemed like they didn't "nail" the theme they were trying for. The open concept kitchen left all my clothes smelling like frying oil upon leaving. Location is very good in the heart of the West Loop, easy valet and garages are nearby. All and all, I wouldn't prioritize going back but would try it again if someone really wanted to- just avoiding "fish fry Fridays" for the sake of my dry cleaning bill.

Restaurant is located under the roister restaurant, enter that restaurant and the host will guide you downstairs. Reservations are a must as the space is small. Our server was super informative about the menu! Happy hour deals are awesome! Fresh oysters for $2! And these dirty martinis was delish! The real star was the prime rib....it is amazing! Order each of the sauces for the prime rib, my fav was the bernaise sauce and the peppercorn sauce. Order the Yorkshire pudding to sop up the juices! Sides were tasty, potatoe purée and creamed spinach. Wedge salad was also good! Desserts fell very flat. The grasshopper pie was pretty to look at but very very minty. Could just be me but it was too much mint. The whipped cream and Oreo crust was delicious though! Now the chocolate cake. We wanted to like it but it was incredibly dry. Very crumbly and dry. Not a good chocolate cake. But the rest of the meal was delish!!

It's not that the food is bad, but it's not great. It's only ok. There are many restaurants that have ok food. Like TGI Fridays, or olive garden, but they don't charge the kind of money for their food that this place does. I spent $350.00 for myself and a friend. We got apps drinks and the prime rib with sides. There wasn't anything that really stood out as great. It wasn't bad, just not worth the price. I kind of feel ripped off, and I will never go back again.

English cut prime rib, Robuchon potatoes, caramelized mushrooms, Yorkshire puddings
    Sunipa K.

It pains me to not give this a higher rating bc the food and drinks were SPECTACULAR. One of the best prime ribs I've ever had, mostly bc the jus was so flavorful and more like a sauce than most other jus that are kind of thin and watery. We had shrimp cocktail and mushroom soup for apps (both super yummy), and then shared the English cut along with caramelized mushrooms (next level amazing) and the Robuchon potatoes (decadent and delicious if not a bit too salty). Also had Yorkshire puds but were so full that they were barely touched. Brandy old fashioneds were *chef's kiss* BUT. The ambience almost ruined the whole thing. First off, it's tiny and is in Roister's basement. So no windows or light. And you're kind of shoe-horned in there, so if you're remotely claustrophobic then forget about even trying this place. Next, it was soooo hot in there. I, and many other patrons, were fanning ourselves with our menus. And it wasn't even remotely hot outside. And worst off, the place REEKED of oil. Like an old fried chicken place. Because you're basically sitting in the kitchen, the odor just wafts over to you. My hair still smells like old frying oil. All in all, I would rather go to Roister and try to order the food off the St Clair menu lol

Brussel Sprouts (undercooked and a bit too sour)

This is a great hidden gem below Roister (all owned by the Alinea Group) and really captures the feel of driving through Wisconsin and pulling over to a bar-style supper club. The kitchen table seating is AWESOME and highly recommended for solo visitors or couples (more than that and you can't all talk to one another since you sit side-by-side). Be sure to avoid sitting in front of the stove area where it can get very hot. The food here was so home-cooking-delicious, that we'll easily come back when we save up more cash, haha... Our bill was over $400, so a place like Wildfire could serve up similar food for less, but then again, it wouldn't be the same incredible version for a few items (see my pics for winners and losers). The prime rib had an incredible sauce glazing the service plate while my roasted 4-star mushrooms (side) and mushroom soup (appetizer) were so good, I was thinking about them on the ride back home, LOL... Watch out for the brussel sprouts; ours were nearly raw and too much vinegar was used, so raw *and* sour. You can always take em' home and finish cooking them, so no loss, but for a $400 bill, they *could* at least cook them. Oh! They can serve drinks from Roister here, but surprisingly, the drinks are kind-of-sort-of... average? We've had many better Wisconsin-style "Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet" cocktails elsewhere. Otherwise, this place is our little secret, m'kay? Don't tell others! ;-D

We started with the artichoke gratin and the salmon Caesar salad, and both were absolutely unreal. The flavors and quality were next level. My ribeye was cooked perfectly -- an incredible char on the outside, medium rare inside exactly as ordered, and seasoned unbelievably well. The mushroom casserole may have honestly been the best mushrooms I've ever had. My daughter's vodka rigatoni was top notch and packed with flavor. We finished with the sticky cake for dessert, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. On top of all that, our server Jenna was a total pro -- attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. One of the best dinners we've had in a long time. Can't wait to come back.

The fish was so flaky and tender that it was falling apart. The breading was perfect. I also loved the fries it came with because they were crispy on the outside and had a good amount of potato in each bite -- Crispy Fried Chicken: 9/10 the breading was also perfect but I do think it's missing a good sauce. the dish is included with a bottle hot sauce but because I don't do spicy sauces, I did find the fried chicken a little dry on its own. Loved the coleslaw and mashed potatoes that came on the side though -- Lobster Mac and Cheese: 8/10 very creamy and cheesy but not much lobster flavor. wasn't a bad dish at all but I probably would skip this for next time because the other dishes were more of a standout -- Sticky Date Toffee: this is the dessert they're known for and I have to admit I was reluctant to try it at first. I don't really like dates or toffee and I had read a few reviews who mentioned it was a little salty. I'm not sure if they adjusted the saltiness based on feedback but I didn't find the dessert too salty at all. It felt so balanced- the warm sponge cake, the toffee sauce, the cold ice cream and crumbs for a little bit of texture all came together perfectly In the future I hope to try their vodka pasta with spicy sausage, their chicken pot pie, their cornbread, and Bella Punch or Cosmo In terms of service, our waitress was extremely attentive and sweet -- multiple wait staff were keeping our water filled and checking in with us But outside of the food and service, I will say I was a little disappointed they charge for reservations here - it's $2.50 person and even though the cost isn't that high, I think the concept of charging for a reservation versus taking a deposit or charging a no show fee is hard for me to get behind Keep in mind they also have a 3% surcharge included in the bill as well But overall I loved my experience dining here-- I think the have so many amazing dishes to try and it was so hard to choose so I definitely would love to come back to try more

When I asked about the wait time, the host joked that it was two hours. Under normal circumstances, I would have laughed and played along. Given what had just happened minutes earlier, it did not quite land... but to their credit, the moment I explained the situation, everything shifted. They sat me promptly and turned what could have been a lingering bad night into a completely different experience. Julio, my server, set the tone immediately. Julio was professional, attentive, and generous. He brought out meatballs on the house, which were excellent. I ordered calamari, rigatoni alla vodka with shrimp, and what I believe was a chocolate torte for dessert (also on the house, which I was not expecting). Everything was spot on. The rigatoni in particular stood out. It was made in house and had the kind of texture and quality you notice right away. The Manager (Lance) also stopped by, having been present when I explained what had happened earlier. That kind of awareness and follow-through matters more than people realize. It what separates a place that serves food from a place that understands hospitality. By the time I was finishing dessert, I found myself watching pizzas go out to nearby tables and immediately reconsidering my menu choices for the evening. That's usually a good sign. The host who initially joked about the wait time also came by at the end of my meal. She was polite, thoughtful, and clearly intentional about making sure the experience landed well. I appreciated this gesture. When the bill came, I asked what the total would have been without the discounts and complimentary items. Once I had that number, I tipped Julio the difference. It felt like the only appropriate way to reflect the level of service and generosity I received. I'll be back (for the pizza). Overall: Food (yes) Service (yes) Ambiance (yes)

Once we got seated, our server took our order relatively quickly and we ordered the House made for Kasha with a goat cheese and honey topping, the grilled octopus appetizer, and because we were enjoying our conversation so much we ended up just skipping Wright to dessert and ordering the gooey butter cake. For a light meal, this was relatively satisfactory. Our server said they come to the octopus because we waited so long, so it was nice that the staff was acknowledging that we waited a little bit for our table and we're willing to compensate us. As someone who lives in the river north area, I have actually been here, probably a dozen times, and it's always a good little spot but a little bit pricey for what you're getting. After doing a search on Yelp, I decided we should check out HIDE+SEEK. Ding ding ding! We have a winner folks. We decided to go with the Brunch Party. First let me start off saying that Brunch Party is one plate, one side, and endless mimosas. The entire table participation is required and there is a strict 1.5 hour time limit. That said, Angelique (was our server) was on point during that time period. Our glasses never got pass the half-way mark and a good time was had by all! HIDE+SEEK has a pretty chilled vibe and the décor was cool, a very nice bar area, booths on the east side of the restaurant and tables in the front. I think there was a back area, but can't for sure as I didn't explore as we were seated immediately in our booth. Angelique was very cool. She welcomed us and asked if it was our first time there (it was) and began to explain the menu, focusing on Brunch Party and that everyone at the table had to participate, which we did. For my entrée I got the Short Rib Hash (Sunny side up egg, piquillo pepper, red wine jus, rosemary mornay) and my side was Eggs Your Way (over easy). I got an order of the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (honey-whipped ricotta, blueberry compote, maple syrup) for the table. Both dishes were very nice. I am a sucker for anything with short rib meat in it and this hit well with me. The pancakes were good, nice and fluffy, and the compote was very good. They weren't as lemony as I have had at other restaurants. The flavor was there, but in a subtle way, almost like an afterthought, but still nice. The pancakes themselves were nice and fluffy, just they way I like them. The Doctor got the cheeseburger and fries, which looked nice. He cleaned his plate so I have to assume it was good. The Queen got the Steak and Eggs. I had a bite of the steak and it was tender and had a nice flavor to it. Overall we had a great time and while it was only an hour and a half, it seemed longer. I will totally come back here again for brunch, but want to check out their happy hour and dinner as well. The menus looks interesting.

She also had no idea about the wine, so my friend just rolled the dice on what she wanted without knowing much about it. She wound up liking it - but more clarity would've been helpful (or even seeking out someone else working there for more info!). Minor environment note: The largest artwork there is a triptych of photographs - three famous women: Princess Diana, Sharon Tate (I think?), and Marilyn Monroe. There is a horizontal band going across where their eyes all line up, and the band replaces their eyes with cartoon eyes, likely of Disney princesses. It is supposed to be quirky but I found it creepy, especially since it featured three famous women who met untimely ends.
