Lake Mohawk is one of my favorite Jersey towns. It just has that old fashioned vibe sitting on a beautiful lake. I hadn't been to this restaurant's location since years ago when it was Arthur's. On this occasion, my wife and I were attending a birthday party in the back room. While I can't comment on the regular menu, I will say that the filet which I ordered was very good! My husband and I were in the area and St. Moritz had a 4.6 rating on Google, so we went for lunch. Being a Tuesday afternoon the day after Christmas it was pretty quiet. The service was great, the food outstanding. I had "The Turkey" - -- sliced Turkey, Cole slaw, melted cheddar, and Russian dressing on the most delicious whole grain bread I've ever had (toasted). The fries were delicious too - hot, crispy and perfectly salted. My husband had a mushroom with Swiss on brioche bun. He thought it would be a burger, but was not. Yesterday 9/15/24 at 5pm I had a reservation to eat outside with my son and his new wife. I had eaten there several times before and the service was always above par. , however yesterday was very disappointing. The service felt hurried. Our waitress was inattentive. She argued with me when she brought me the wrong drink. She refused to return the drink until I threatened not to pay for it. I had to ask twice for extra salad dressing and extra cheese. Only a few words: simply magnificent! The ambiance for starters grabs you. We had a party of 6 so we decided to sit outside. It was hot but our server was very nice and made sure we never ran out of our beverages. Not very impressed by the appetizers but the main course was amazing. I had the pork tenderloin medallions which we cooked to perfection. My husband had the veggie burger and he said it was very tasty. The others had the shrimp and grits and there were no leftovers. Setting/ambiance, staff, food, and drinks are all very good, and make the 30 minute drive to and from this restaurant worth it. Sparta has no shortage of great dining options, but one of my favorite go-to's remains St. Moritz. You can't go wrong with either lunch or dinner here. They also cater to small parties, such as birthdays or baby showers. Today we came for lunch with the family to check out the new revamped menu. Everyone ordered something different: from fish and chips to a burger and fries. I had the chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and green beans. The chicken schnitzel was tender and perfectly prepared and the mashed potatoes were warm and buttery. Everyone raved about their dishes, long after the meal was done. We were all so full, but two of us decided we had to try some of the enticing desserts. The two we tried were the apple crisp a la mode and the creme brûlée. Both were outstanding. Other important notes: they have a great list of brews and wine. I had the Estrella Cabernet Sauvignon. I've never had it before and it was smooth and delicious. My fiancé had the Yuengling. As far as parking, there are several spots in front of the restaurant and they also have a lot that is valet only. read more

I came here to have lunch after the Christmas market in town. Luckily we only had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table and they were able to call us when the table was ready. I did love the atmosphere of the place! Very cozy. Service was very friendly, but slow ( we didnt mind b/c we werent in a rush) I had the chicken Schnitzel which was tasty- a little too greasy but had good flavor. I also shared a cup of leek soup with my mom and I loved it!! My mom had the lobster small plate- I had a bite and it was ok. We got the warm apple crisp for dessert- you really cant go wrong with warm dessert and ice cream! Overall its an average place to stop in for food. read more

Led to the back area where there was a large and loud party seated as well who were quite obnoxious and we couldn't enjoy our own conversation. Also wasn't impressed with the food at the time we stopped in. Will likely give it a try again maybe in the summer when we can dine outside and not enclosed by noisy people. Thoroughly enjoyed our whole evening. Tried their calamari which was offered with some different items( all listed on the menu), it was delicious. Cooked just right and tried the peppers, onions... both had the schnitzel which is the best I've had . Very tender and flavorful. Dominick our waiter was very attentive and nice. Great service!! Observed couple next to us who had trouble with their drinks, think it was a language barrier as well. The waiter, bartender and manager all came to the table to try and figure out what they wanted and third time nailed it. All of the exchanges between customer and staff were respectful and clearly intent was to get it right. Couple certainly appreciated it. Was just nice to see how genuinely concerned staff was to give the customer what they wanted. Well done and can't wait to go back. Prices were good too. read more

Experience started from bad to worst We visited the restaurant and bar today late afternoon for a very late lunch. While the place was fairly empty, the hostess took a while to seat us as they didn't have enough wait staff to run the place. After we seated and ordered, the food arrived after a rather long wait. The grilled burger which we got was overcooked and borderline burnt. The "spinach and artichoke dip" felt like an off the shelf dip from a grocery store. To top it all off, the place had flies circling our plate. We were seated indoors far away from the doors and since it was cold, their outdoor seating was closed, which makes it difficult the presence of flies difficult, besides the fact that they do a lousy job of keeping the place clean. Always could be better. The chop salad is the best thing on the menu. Will only get it with the shrimp. The salmon is too greasy and always hurts my stomach. Nothing else on the menu is new. They refuse to update menu. They keep pushing the same 8 specials and acting like they are providing something different. We tried both the pomegranate and the blueberry Moscow Mules, but really it tastes just like a regular Moscow Mule... but we like Moscow Mules, so it wasn't too much of a let down. The best parts of both the Wood-Grilled New York Strip and the Seafood Mixed Grill were the potato components (potato casserole and potato croquettes), which are supposed to be sides, not the main show! There was nothing wrong per se with the steak or the seafood, but it was just very mediocre. The chocolate mousse shooter was meant to be a small dessert for when you don't feel like having a full decadent and heavy dessert. It tasted like standard chocolate mousse and fit the bill for being a light sweet bite to end the meal on, but it was not worth the price. As a vegetarian, I am so grateful for the options this place provided. The greens bowl was just absolutely fabulous, perfectly executed! Make sure to try those marinated chickpeas and that avocado ranch is so perfect. I will be back! My husband loved his duck and shrimp Cocktail too as well as the two drinks (something Smokey and the strawberrry daiquiri). My college buddy hosted a dinner party here for her son who graduated from high school. We had the private room at the far left from the entrance. It fit about 40 of us very comfortably with room for 4 hot entrees, 2 sides, and 2 types of green salads. The service was excellent. From the time we arrived to set up the centerpieces, to the time they cut and served the cake, the countless staff were courteous and almost invisible because they were so efficient! They were so smooth in clearing the used plates, mingling through the guests with appetizers during happy hour, and even served the hot entrées! The food was presented well and had great flavor even though it was prepared in large quantities. The beef was tender, the salmon was moist, the chicken was tasty, & the shrimps in the scampi were huge! Everyone helped themselves to their satisfaction and had a good time! There is valet parking available if you can't find free street parking. The restroom is clean and accessible. The ambiance is noisy and festive! My friend had had a previous family gathering and a work event here. Both had been successful. I'm sure that if you have a private party at St. Moritz, it will turn out great, too! read more

Favorite restaurant in Sparta - They have a great outdoor seating "Biergarten" that's almost impossible to get a seat in during the summer. They don't take reservations for outside, but if you can get a seat either before or after 6-7pm it's worth it! They have creative and tasty specials almost every time I'm there and a GREAT happy hour menu. My favorite dish is their sausage platter with croquet potatoes. I just tried their potato leak and 1/2 turkey, avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich for $9.99 and was extremely pleased! FYI - They have a loyalty program so definitely sign up for birthday specials and the latest happenings. Also, in July they give out red envelopes at the end of the meal to bring you back in August when your server will open it. You can get all types of coupons (ex. Free appetizer). read more

I then made reservations for this restaurant and I had no clue how the food was going to be but man it delivered. This food tasted very nice and wholesome....I ordered the spinach artichoke dip and it was light and a little creamy with some colorful vibrant chips that tasted great...I then ordered the honey glazed salmon which was the best salmon I had this year...The salmon tasted so fresh and juicy and the orzo was nice zesty while the leaks yet weird tasted nice and overall was just a great little dish...The scenery was so beautiful with lights and umbrellas...Everything was just so great and I will definitely come back again for more. read more

We dined last evening at the St. Moritz, an eatery we go to frequently. Upon arrival we were greeted and escorted to our table immediately. Our server approached us to determine if we would care to order a cocktail, which we did. It took close to 15 minutes before the cocktails arrived. We then placed our dinner order of salads and entrees. We both ordered a salad including the special salad which was to contain Ahi Tuna. The special salad arrived minus the tuna. It took an extremely long time to gain the server's attention to correct. The entrees finally arrived about 30 plus minutes after the salad course was complete. Since we sat for 70 minutes before our entrees arrived, we considered requesting our bill and leaving. There was so much time waiting for food that we ate two baskets of bread. Another selection was Chicken Schnitzel, which is one of their signature dishes. The chicken was tough and rubbery and accompanied with a smaller than usual serving of mashed potatoes... Not usual. Not sure of the causes of all these issues but for $170.00 for two, we expect a lot better. read more

I live within walking distance and have been here many times. I have never had a bad experience especially since they redid the place and added the beer garden. Came here on July 4th for dinner with my wife and a friend who grew up in Sparta but now lives in Georgia. My friend hadn't been here since the beer garden was added and it being a beautiful night we asked for a table outside. We noticed there were plenty of empty tables on the way in but we were told it was a 1 hour wait for a table of 3! We asked why so long and they said they didn't have the staff to service the beer garden. A beautiful evening on the 4th of July and they don't have enough staff! Completely unacceptable! Not the way to run a restaurant! Needless to say we went next door and ate outside at Kroghs with no wait and had a great meal! read more

We were then informed that there would be an hour and a half wait. We told the the hostess that we just called and we were never informed that reservations are recommended.
