This place has become more our home than a random dining experience and we've felt the love since our first visit three years ago. The staff is so friendly and their passion is shown every time we visit. Today is a quick bite so we are eating at the bar. Bustling as normal with John and Justin at the helm. A robust wine by the glass list paired with a happy hour light bite menu makes this a quick and affordable stopover! I love their full menu too and if you ask me, the mussels can't eat beat! Went to St. Moritz and ordered the one (yes, one) vegetarian dinner menu item. The "super bowl" was said to come with some sort of beans and cheese, which were not present. The reality was unwashed spinach on top of a bed of unseasoned white rice. One of the bowls even featured a hair. The salad dressing given was not nearly enough for the spinach, much less to give any flavor to the rice at the bottom. The kicker? One hour wait. You heard me, a full hour for unwashed and unseasoned salads. The restaurant was not busy; we arrived at 5pm to a room with only two other parties seated. There was one meat eater in the party, who reported that his BBQ chicken sandwich was dry. 5 stars if you like dry meat. read more

Cannot believe this disgusting establishment is allowed to serve "food" to customers and take their hard earned money. Their chicken schnitzel here was recommended to me by my rude waiter and it came out cold. I asked for another schnitzel and they returned the same entree just reheated in a microwave. The chicken fell apart as soon as I stuck my fork in it to reveal a brown liquid of some sort. I would never recommend this restaurant on my worst enemy. I came here for the first time ever last night, ( i live out of town) my niece and her fiancé had their enggement party here and it was fabulous! we had a beautiful private room and the food was delicious !I tasted everything and cleaned my plate ... we had buffet style, the staff was wonderful and extreemly friendly oh yes and don't forget the drinks they were delish !! Make sure you double check every couple item you order when getting food to-go or pick-up. Because those taking the orders have no clue whether your food is available even from the main menu (which hasn't changed in at least 6months). The employees are clueless to what's available. Then don't contact you until the remainder of your order is ready 20-40 minutes later. That was totally unacceptable. Think twice before ordering your food here. And if anyone thinks the size of these clam steamers is good then your as crazy as those who make the decisions. So to wrap up train your people better, use communication between staff and your patrons, cook adult size food, and keep your menu up to date. read more

This was my first time dining here. Upon walking in, I was quickly greeted by the hostess. The bar had a decent crowd. I asked for outdoor seating and was promptly seated outside. There was background music playing. Once it gets dark, the lights make for nice scenery. I was quickly brought basket of bread and the waitress took my drink order. I went on a Tuesday night and they had a tasting menu for $19.99 that included your choice of an appetizer, meal and dessert. The menu does clearly state the portions are smaller. I was slightly concerned by that statement, but I went with the menu anyway. After eating all three courses, the portion size was not an issue at all. I left very full. For an appetizer I ordered the wood grilled shrimp cocktail. For my meal, glazed salmon and for dessert a blueberry crisp with a scoop of ice cream. The glazed salmon was described as a wood-grilled salmon filet glazed with balsamic honey and topped with crispy fried leeks, served with vegetable du jour and orzo mixed with sweet potato. It was cooked perfectly, the textures were right on and the had a great taste. Both the shrimp and salmon were cooked over in a wood grill and the smokey taste was present. -St. Moritz is a decent, but not memorable steakhouse, but I would not have a problem visiting again. Drawback is I get the impression it's trying to be an upscale restaurant, but lacks the ambiance and confidence in its dishes to do so. -Service was good, waitress was knowledgeable and friendly -decor is pretty weak, think bingo hall -pretty good value -how it fares vis a vis the competition: closest competitor in the area (that I know of) is Homestead, which the St. Moritz fares poorly against. Other steakhouses may be further from the area, which lowers their threat to locals. -location is a +. Nice walkable area near a lake and downtown area, which makes it a more compelling option versus run of the mill restaurants on the highway. I had a really nice time here, enjoyed the food, service and drinks. I ordered the fillet, which at 7 ounces, would likely be a better option for my niece, who is now 6-months old. The steak was good, but the thing I don't like is when I go to a steak restaurant and the meat comes with sauce and cheese and garnishes all over it. Makes me think they are watching too much Top Chef and trying to offer me some pretentious "dish" that reflects blah blah blah inspired culinary influence, but deconstructed and executed with their personal creativity. Not So Much. I don't want a "dish", I want a plate. On said plate should be a hunk of meat. Next to said hunk of meat should be a side. That would be the downside, even though I was pretty happy with how it all tasted! Other thing is it has a limited menu, like an upscale restaurant, but looks like a bingo hall inside. If you want to be upscale, man up, and invest some money in capex. You should be able to recover the cash flow rapidly through bonus depreciation (edit: actually the tax rules may allow you to expense up to $250K of QLI), so give it a shot. If you don't want to be all upscale and such, add a little fun to the menu (i.e. Homestead). read more

The place opens at 12 noon. My husband and I arrived at 11:50, knowing full well that we were early. There were several people sitting outside , so as we were entering the outdoor area, a man came out from the restaurant , frantic , telling us over and over that they didn't open until 12, and that the people sitting there took it upon themselves to sit there, and he didn't seat them. So we said "ok, Should we stand and wait or can we sit down and wait until you open? And he kept saying they didn't open until 12, and he went back inside. My husband suggested that I sit at one of the unoccupied tables and wait, because it was hot, and the next thing that happened was insane. The man came back out , this time with a woman, and came up to me as I was sitting there, and said "We have a lot of reservations, we're not open until 12". So I said "I don't know what you want me to do... Do you want me to call and make a reservation or do you want me to stand on the sidewalk or what?" And he kept repeating over and over that they're not open until 12. With that, I got up and told my husband that I refuse to eat at a place with such a hostile and unwelcoming host. It's outrageous the way we were treated. I'm sure we will laugh about it someday. read more

Upon entering you can barley hear yourself talk over the din of the bar crowd. The acoustics are such that you'll need to raise your voice considerably if you want to be heard. If it's quaint, romantic dinning you seek, I'd look elsewhere. Our meal started off great, a dozen Bluepoint Oysters. They were fresh, chilled, and cleaned perfectly. However, half way through our appetizer the main course showed up. Being that we both ordered a fish dish, Walleye for me and Salmon for the lady, we opted not to have it sit and dry out. Both offerings were plated well and looked appealing. Served with string beans, carrots and rice, neither dish was anything to write home about. Our fish was dry, and lacked any real flavor, other than the meat it self. Our server then asked if we wanted coffee. We declined, but we were eyeing up the Strawberry Shortcake that was listed as a daily special. The next thing our check was on the table. So much for desert. It then took our server 35 minutes to collect the check. We watched as she attended to all the tables around us. We were beginning to feel like Claud Raines. To be fair, they did have a power outage, but this only added a more cozy, intimate atmosphere. We ended up satisfying our sweet tooth across the street with some homemade ice cream. Oh well. We have had better experiences here, and yes, we post those as well, but last night was a bit of a dissapointment, to say the least. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to find my way here... and now that I've been, I plan to dine at St. Moritz often. St. Moritz is located on Lake Mohawk (Sparta) in the "Germantown" main street area. It's a great spot, conveniently located across from the local ice cream shop, as well as the boardwalk surrounding the lake. It has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere reminiscent of Jersey Shore eateries. My wife and sister joined me at Moritz for Cinco de Mayo 2018. The weather was warm and beautiful, and the outdoor seating section was well attended. I enjoyed the sounds that walking on the pebble floor produced, but not as much as the individual blankets that the serving staff began handing out when it became slightly more chilly after dark. We were all really excited about this! Where have you ever dined out under the cover of a blanket? The food was really top notch as well. The guacamole appetizer was excellent. My burger tasted very fresh and slightly smoky. The veggie burger (which my wife had) was also very good, and a noodle dish that my sister ordered received high marks. No complaints about the service. They seemed very accommodating to me, and even constructed a virgin mohito for my wife, who is pregnant. I came here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon (yesterday as a matter of fact) after visiting the Sterling Hill Mining Museum. My husband and I wanted to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail after walking around town a bit. I travel with a registered service dog everywhere I go for medical reasons. My husband walked inside to talk to the hostess about us being seated out back on the patio. Nicole was extremely helpful and friendly telling us it would be no problem. As we walked into the back area to the tables we were met with an extremely rude individual who told us "I don't know who would have said you can come in we absolutely do not allow dogs" Without even giving us an opportunity to speak she offered for us to "sit" in the fire pit area and have my dog on the other side of the fence where she would be "a non-issue". I have never in my life dealt with someone who was so absolutely ignorant. So we sit down at this fire pit thing which has no chairs so I'm not really sure what I was even sitting on my dog is baking in the sun excommunicated from my husband and I and everyone is staring at us. 5 minutes later we get a server who barely said 1 word to us and treated us like we were a burden. This whole situation left us feeling very uncomfortable and extremely unwanted. After drinking a mediocre Bloody Mary we paid our bill and my husband went back into the front to Nicole who apologized for the way we were treated and tried her best to salvage the situation. This establishment needs to open their eyes. I will never return to this place. read more

That being said my only issue is that the small plates are truly small and perhaps a better explanation would better represent it....only because when we asked it was indicated they are larger than appetizers but smaller than entrees...and that one of the ones we chose was " substantial. Makes me wonder how tiny the appetizers are. to be fair, my hubby & I can eat. We are not people who'd normally go somewhere to eat if we think we will leave hungry. Absolutely Incredible!!! Group of 4, Saturday night prime time, we only had to wait 25 minutes on a gorgeous weather night (no reservation). Sat at Bar while we waited- nice wooden bar, friendly bartender, great service! We all loved our food, Scallops, beef tips, eggplant & tomato salad: delicious and creative, not a crumb left on anyone's plate. Great wine selection. Service incredible, our waitress was so extremely nice and accomodating! Good lighting, nice interior, very clean bathroom. And they have live music and a fire pit in Garden. Anytime my I visit my parents they bring me here. The pros are that it's in a good center location in the middle of Lake Mohawk village. It also has a pretty patio, decent wine selection and friendly waitstaff. The cons: the food is absolutely average. This is disappointing considering the options seem varied and interesting. However, every single item I've ever ordered straddle the small and flavorless realm. Call it country club cafeteria food if you will. It's always busy and I presume it's because it's the main eatery in this section of Sparta. However, it could be so much better if it stopped resting on its laurels. read more

Alway good. They are so consistent if you dont like it, dont go back. The german food is great. Sometimes its not what I want when dining outside by the lake but winter time is the best time for some german sausages. The service is always on point. Never had a bad server here or sit at the bar without the kids and enjoy. My only vomplaint is the fried food. Over breaded and over cooked. Fish tacos should be nice grilled fish. Very nice experience. We managed to get a last minute reservation when there seemed to be nothing available for that night (I guess someone must've cancelled). While we were there though there seemed to be plenty of open tables? Not sure if they were reserved or not. Anyways, food was great, drinks were great, and the service was excellent. I took my wife and kids here for lunch about a week ago to meet a family friend. I was naturally a little wary but nevertheless decided to dine here. The incidents happened over 20 years ago and I thought it was in the best interest of the town and community not to move on but to move past. I was born and raised in Sparta and like many decided to start my own family here. That day back in 1998 sent shockwaves through our entire community. It was a dark spot in Sparta history. Some of those girls were the same age as my daughter Claire is now. It makes me sick thinking about it to this day. I'm am very glad to see that the people responsible for those heinous acts were brought to justice but still cannot be satisfied knowing that some of the individuals who frequented as well as operated that human trafficking ring are still out there. The feel in the restaurant was a tad somber but I could see that the people were very hard at work to, as I put it earlier, move past the events that transpired. I am proud to live in a town where the good triumphs the bad. The Mussels were earth-shattering. read more

We initially decided to come here as a nearby restaurant had a two hour wait. We were sat in twenty minutes. After receiving the lunch menus, we were told that dinner was starting and we swapped them out for those. Mostly the same choices but most dishes were on average $5 more. Fine, I get it, there were plenty of options on this new menu. We ordered drinks and ordered dinner. Much to our surprise, salads and bread were not included whatsoever for dinner service which seemed out of the ordinary. I felt it could have been included for dinner service up-charge but it was not. Two of us ended up purchasing side salads a la carte. Then dinner was served. It was very lackluster and included small portions based on the price we paid. I ordered a meat platter which looked amazing spelled out on the menu. It was less than stellar. The actual highlight of it all were the croquettes but the chicken (bbq sauce just poured over it), sausage and shrimp were just ok. The vegetables were over cooked. The mashed potatoes were not seasoned whatsoever. I have never left a negative review but I was deeply annoyed that this restaurant, in this beautiful part of town, was serving very sub par quality food. Our drinks were never refilled or offered to with the exception of water. Potential diners beware. In retrospect, I would have rather stood outside Krogh's and waited the two hours and be starving the whole time than ever spent a nickel here. read more

The hostess is attentive to the mask requirements and on this evening neutralized an annoying attempt by someone trying to jump the line without a mask. Food is decent. The guacamole is excellent and very unique in its own skin with chunks of avocado. The sirloin burger is excellent, tasty and filling. Grilled chicken is equal to the task. The only disappointment was the twin filet. Not presented as an 8 ounce filet but as two 4 ounce pieces of meat (which lead us to believe this was a Sysco packaged product or something similar). I have been to St. Moritz a few times because my friend's band has played for the Saturday night crowd. I was almost always too busy doing video and sound recording to stop and grab a bite to eat. Last night, we were invited to a family party so I finally had the chance to try the food. I asked our waiter what he recommended from a couple of options and without hesitation he offered something I missed called an "Oscar" - a filet mignon covered with shrimp and served long side crab. I thought that sounded very ambitious but I ordered it and am glad I did. The beef was perfectly cooked - a very nice take on medium rare. The shrimp were fresh, crisp and grilled. Very nice. The crab - a rather small portion but still fresh and tasty. It was served along side a dark mass that I didn't know was mashed sweet potato until i tasted it. It was really well cooked and a nice side dish along side the beef. I was very satisfied. My wife had a chicken dish and offered me a taste. It too was well cooked. And she, who watches what she eats, ate every bite. Everyone else in our party had similar things to say about their food. My Godson had something I thought sounded odd but temptation - fried chicken and waffles. He tucked into the meal and made yummy noises. The skinniest person at the table, he ate every bite. We shared appetizers - I had grilled shrimp and there was a plate of spicy chicken wing-like bites. The shrimp was excellent - fresh, cooked to the right tenderness and not overly spiced. The chicken bites - pretty spicy for most of the folks - just a warning in case you aren't blessed with asbestos dentures! Friendly and helpful wait staff. Fair pricing considering the quality. Good quality and slightly ambitious food (a compliment). Overall, a good place to eat. I must not be the only person who thinks that because the restaurant was packed. Lively bar scene too. Probably a 2 anywhere else but a 3 for Sparta given the absolute lack of decent restaurants left. Anyway, service was very good, attentive and competent. Food was only so so: - potato/garlic soup was good - ribeye had too much smoke and came in two pieces with one piece being a palm sized ball of fat - vegetables served with meal were tasteless, no seasoning at all; what you would expect to eat in a hospital bed - mashed potatoes were good - burgers were good as were sandwiches - kids chicken fingers a little light on fingers - chicken/pasta dish had what seemed to be food service cheese sauce - best part of the meal was dessert Now in fairness, the menu was a little fish heavy and I don't eat fish. Folks in our party who got the fish did say it was good. Will probably give them another go but if the level of play stays as-is, probably will not go back. read more
