We were deciding between this place and Tied House on Villa. Coin toss led us to this pub. We walked into a near empty place with no one to greet us. The tables by the entrance also looked bare and worn out. The place smelled and looked dirty to me. Maybe it's the lighting but our first impression was that this place was not inviting or loved. We went to the bar and was surprised to see so many TV's. There were many old men sitting around who was sipping beer; it looked like they were taking forever finishing the beer so their sips were tiny. Overall, the place, to me, had an old nursing home feel. You know, where old people are doing their own thing and no one is really giving them service or taking good care of them. I think "Irish pub" is in the name on the menu for this place but their menu resembled Denny's or Applebee's - run of the mill boring "American" food. There were many burger options; when you think about it, do you really need 8 different variations of the same thing on a menu? There was very few "Irish" food or drinks. We ordered buffalo wings (keeping it safe since the place did not look or smell clean). It was actually good and the price was good. The beer was from a draft which is a nice. The woman bartender was calling us "honey" and "sweetheart" which, considering we were just customers, came off as trying too hard to establish an intimacy or some kind of close relationship that did not exist. But she was trying to be nice and we gave her points for that. No one - customers or employees - were pinching our butts or touching our bodies, which is always appreciated. That would be really creepy and gross. I found this place slightly trailer trash and had the feeling of lonely customers. I don't know. This is a good place to go to if you just had a divorce or after discovering another terrible thing Donald Trump did to the America or just feeling really sad. But, I think it is not a good restaurant or bar to frequent. I tend to like good, attentive service; I like clean dishes and glassware; I like fresh, delicious and authentic food; I like a place of business that care a little more about giving customers a great deal, a great setting and great customer experience. St. Stephen's missed the mark. But it might be okay for someone looking for cheap things and realistically expect what they pay for. And for someone who is looking for a bartender who likes to make them feel relevant and loved again (for a good tip). We will not be returning. There are about 5 bars and restaurants in MV that are way better than this place to bring our business to. read more

Me and my friend asked around what's the best place to catch the football game? Came in on a Sunday huge Seattle fans everywhere!! Still found a spot to sit the waitress was very rude didn't introduce herself that she would be helping us..looked like she was having a bad day. We ordered 2 drinks big selection of beer very mediocre taste though it was missing something, anyway we wanted to grab a bite and saw there lunch menu. We both ordered 2 WELL DONE burgers w/fries we didn't mind the wait because we were enjoying the game and conversing. Finally after 25min she brings our food out looked very good, we heard the burgers taste really good here. My friends burger was well done, and mine was RARE!!!! I took two bites and I could not eat into it anymore. I can tolerate medium..but c'mon rare "really" I flagged the waitress down I told her that my burger was RARE... She then gave me this crazy look and attitude like it was my fault! She said she couldn't do anything about it that she will let the cook know..didn't even offer an apology. She finally came back 15 min later said they are making another one if I wanted to keep the plate and keep picking on the fries...keep in mind I'm thinking as curtesy they will give me a fresh set of fries??? So at this point my friend feels bad because they didn't want to keep eating because I had to wait for my new order..this point I'm frustrated because the waitress did not come back to our table to check on us..so we couldn't enjoy the game. Finally new burger comes out..SHE SENDS THE BUS BOY TO DELIVER IT TO US." "WOW" Burger was well done and did not include fresh fries I flagged her again and kindly asked her can I get a new set of fries "If looks can kill, I'd be dead." She came back and practically threw the plate of fries on our table..I then asked for the final bill!!! Never offered an apology whatsoever. Great place for watching a game and having a beer..AVOID THE FOOD TO AVOID THE RUDE SERVICE. read more

This place is horrible! I work in mountain view and i've been dragged into there on several different occasions. first and foremost, if they ever want to have a chance of redeeming themselves they must get rid of a few staff members who tend to make the whole experience quite miserable. First there is a short, fat, red-faced and snarling bartender who's too ugly and too crappy at making drinks to ever be allowed behind the bar, and he spent more drooling over my friends cleavage than serving customers around us. Later, he waddled over and demanded we give up our barstools, where we had been sitting for a while, so that they could turn the place into some kinda of wannabe club. the whole place filled with a choking smoke and we decided to leave after the horrible dj played like five shakira songs in a row. Second there is a scowling, hateful woman who sneers and glares at you even if you try to smile. once when some co-workes and I were drinking there during a weeknight, we overheard this woman talking shit about some of the custmers saying in her irish mutterings how they were all stupid worthless f*cks, and how she hates asians, indians and americans....how's that for professionalism? We also heard her barking out loud and mean-sounding orders to her coworkers, who were actually quite friendly to us. We were so appalled by her blatent racism and bad work ethics (and extremely bad, overly priced cocktails) that we all made a pact never to frequent this establishment ever again. read more

Two words... chicken curry. If you haven't tried the chicken curry here, you haven't lived. Their menu is pretty outstanding for hearty Irish fare, shepherds pie, homemade Guinness pie, fish n chips are all great, but I find myself hankering for the chicken curry frequently and head down there to get my fix. I also like the flank steak salad but get the dressing on the side so it's not too drowned. They have a decent lunch menu, and not one but two happy hours, one regular and one late night which is great. Staff are all really nice, and if you go there frequently, they really take care of you. I go there with my kids sometimes too and they always throw in a free ice cream for them which the kids love, along with the chicken strips or even just a bowl of pasta. Great selection of beer on tap, and also solid place to watch the Champions League or English Premier League soccer. The place is packed on Sundays and Monday nights too for NFL and they've a ton of big TVs to catch all the games. Definitely try the chicken curry, with fries on the side - seriously the best pub curry in the area. I've tried curry in all the other pubs but they don't hold a candle to this one, other are too watery or tasteless. This is the perfect marriage of spices and texture, with juicy chicken that just falls apart. They use mango chutney and all other kinds of things in this, simply put it's just special, you have to try it. read more

When I tried to pay with a gift certificate we bought during the pandemic to keep Stephen's Green open, the manager said "What is this?". Then when I told him I bought it during the pandemic he said "Well I have been here 8 months, and I didn't issues it." This made me mad and I objected and lost my temper, because we only bought gift certificates during the pandemic to keep Stephen's Green open because we thought it had value to community. He then took the $100 dollar gift certificate, saying okay "I will take care of your bill". My bill was $75 dollars. So this made me more mad. I planned to use the balance to get a desert for my children. Then he gave me the gift certificate because "He couldn't baby sit me". I tried to help him see this was not a good customer experience saying I didn't want his charity I just wanted the gift certificate honored, and was told he would call the police. I tipped my servers and left. To be fair I wasn't calm during the initial part of the interaction and swore and I am sorry for that. But the new manager's attitude that is was a concession to honor a gift certificate that was purchased out of charity by a patron of 15+ years triggered that initial anger. This doesn't feel like how those who kept Stephen's green a float during tough times should be treated. read more

I find myself at St. Stevens once every 2 weeks or anytime there's a game on. Their Happy Hour is fair. $3 Bluemoon is the way to go! The crispy chicken salad for $4.50 is oh so yummy but the only thing this spot needs is better bartender service... It's too bad 1 bad experience with a (very rude, non-friendly, overcharging bartender) can do... The value of the business goes down.... Gustavo ((their best bartender) is awesome) and the servers are A- status and this my fellow yelpers is why I continue to go. This one bartender (the chick who overcharged us for drinks we never had, called us drunk and called two servers over to see if they served us these drinks, and when they said NO she still pretty much called us liars to the point where my friend, who I was with, called the next day and took this incident up with management) and yes trust that if this unprofessional woman (and if you go you'll know who I'm speaking of as she apears to have a 5 letter word stamped on her forehead...) is there I will ignore her as she will me and continue to have a great time.... I hate trivia but my girlfriend wanted to get out of the house and go to a place where "there are people". Okay so we visited this pub on Monday night. To our surprise, it was almost packed with people! She got giddy. But we really bombed on the trivia question; the one set having to do with geography and law was too hard. Who is supposed to know the answers to them?! The beer was really good, though, and the buffalo wings were finger-licking good (lotsa napkins, please). Our Asian server had wild curly hair and was very attentive to us even though all we did was ask for more beer and did not order any main course from their menu! When we ran out of beer, she asked us if we wanted to get some tap water to keep hydrated! So the service was also great, which, surprised me because when I think of an Irish pub, I usually do not associate it with great service. Our server also told us that there is Karaoke night and Club nights at St. Stephen's! And I thought downtown MV was boring. I think my girlfriend is going to visit this place quite often. I might join her for one of the club nights! A fun recommendation for anyone looking to do something different or just get out of the house to be around people! read more

This review is only for my happy hour experience. I have not tried the food and have not been here at night but since it's close to work & home, I like coming here. So, the first time the hubby & I came here, we ordered a couple of beers and a soda. The server brought our beers to us literally 45 seconds after we put our order in and she was very attentive the whole time we were there. Given the fact that it was happy hour and the bar was packed, I would not have expected our server to be as attentive and efficient as she was. I don't remember her name but I know she had blonde hair and had an accent.. so if you see her, be nice because she's great! Also, our bill came out to only $5.00 so we gave her a $10 tip. I stopped in for a quick bite to eat and hoped they would have Irish stew on the menu. Once I got the waitress' attention I ordered a Guinness and the stew. The stew was good if you like beef stew. I didn't taste any lamb and it was actually closer to a Guinness beef stew. Still, it tasted ok and I really didn't expect to find anything like an Irish stew. I ordered chicken Marsala to go for my daughter. Got it back and found mash potatoes instead of pasta. I guess I shouldn't order Italian in a self-proclaimed Irish pub. Love this place always a good time when me and my friends go. I just hate when people try to kill the vibe and be so argumentative about the simplest things like getting a stamp on your hand to be able to get into the bar talking about "OMG I'm allergic to ink"and in all honesty the doorman handled the situation pretty well on getting the drunk "Karen" out the bar and getting the situation under control. Good job Mr doorman dude. Maybe they should start making a senior citizens bar so us younger generation can enjoy a good night out instead of having to tiptoe around the old folks and their needy ways. read more

I was having a great time on Thursday night sittin' near the bar, enjoying my drink and eating some food , when I was taken aback by the manager's harsh tone with one of the servers. It was so harsh i had to ask if she was okay. I was literally shocked- who talks to people like that, especially when it's not even busy at all . It honestly made me wonder if I'd want to come back to this place. I mean, if this is how they treat their staff, it's no wonder they might have issues with retention. I found St. Stephens Green when I moved to Mountain View years ago. I'm fond of Irish food and I look for great pubs. St. Stephens Green is a great Irish pub. If you go for a sports event there are plenty of TV's but you can also find a nook to sit and be on your own. The food is fantastic Irish pub food. It is prepared the way you would expect. The selection of beer on tap is extensive and there are a good number of wines and liquor's as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is my go to pub in the bay area. read more

He is really cute but most importantly , he is quick , sweet and remembers your drinks so that the next time you come in he confirms that you want the same drink and he makes sure you have it in front of you. Yummy food served at a pub setting. Seen the staff here deal with crazy people/rude people on many occasions. definitely extra stars because of the staff. They know how to hire people, keep it that way. -1 Star could use better facilities, seemed kinda dirty when you look over the bar and into the kitchen.
