Yikes! Stayed at the hotel this past weekend for a birthday staycation and was excited to try this restaurant. I dined with my daughter Friday night (08/28). It wasn't busy so I was surprised at how awful the service was. The young man who seated us looked like he hated life. I should've known that his vibe was only the beginning. Our evening went downhill from there...After our order was taken, and our food brought out, we never saw our server again. I finished my prosecco and never got the opportunity to order a second glass. Eventually, I told my 6-year-old to wait while I went and asked for a dessert menu. At which point I mentioned that we never saw our server. The woman at the stand handed me dessert menus and said someone would be with us shortly. A different server came and took our dessert order. But after dessert was brought to us, once again we were ignored. When I tell you that we could've gotten up and left and never paid, nobody would have noticed. That's how much we were ignored. I was fucking pissed at this point. I got up with my child to go complain when the server quickly noticed and asked if everything was ok...fuck no it's not ok! Quickly gave him my room number and said that the evenings service was atrocious. And we walked away. And if the service was bad, the food was worse. When I tell you a DiGiorno pizza is better than their rendition of a margarita pizza, it's not an exaggeration. My pizza literally had four tiny sprigs of basil. And their olive paste garnish on it is unnecessary. Their twist on the margarita pizza was not appetizing. I can't complain about their fries though. It was basically the only thing we ate that we enjoyed. Their guacamole was rough too. Lacked flavor. The dessert was the biggest disappointment, food-wise. It appeared to be a brownie baked on a chocolate chip cookie, cut into a pie slice. It was HARD. I gave up trying to get my spoon through it. Needed a steak knife. The ice cream was fine. After this experience, we decided we would not be eating at the restaurant for the rest of our time at the hotel. We went and picked up food or ordered in. The bartenders seemed nice, but once the afternoon hit, my daughter had to wait over 30 minutes for a Shirley Temple to be brought to the pool. After waiting too long I decided to get up and go to the bar and ask what was going on. Her Shirley Temple was sitting there at the bar, and they had accidentally put it in a typical glass, which is not permitted at the pool. The bartender apologized because the server who had taken my order at the pool, did not relay to the bartender that the order was for the pool area. All in all, I would never eat here again. As a local, it's disappointing because the ambience is nice. But the food is overpriced and not even close to being good. And as for the service? My God. This was officially the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. Ever. When the manager of the hotel asked how our stay was, I casually mentioned that the restaurant was lacking in a lot of ways. But I didn't expand on the experience. However, I was surprised to see that the manager had taken off the meals from the charges to my room when I checked out. And I sincerely appreciate that. I never asked for it, but was appreciative as it was unexpected. Bottom line. The hotel is a nice stay, and I plan on staying again. But you couldn't pay me to eat at that restaurant. read more

I initially tried some bites from Roger at the flavors of the Peninsula event and was so impressed with the lamb meatballs and sauce. I decided to come check out the restaurant. The vibe is really cute and tons of outdoor space with games. We came in on a weeknight for dinner and a few drinks. Service was a little slow- our cocktails came after our food items, but staff were friendly. We ordered a few items to share. The strawberry salad was a standout, very fresh ingredients and delicious blend of toppings. We did not add a protein but that was an option. I also enjoyed the shrimp and flatbread. The shrimp had good flavor and was cooked well. The flatbread with duck confit had some heavy toppings with goat cheese and thick glaze. Both were a little too rich for me, but I enjoyed them. I like the ambience here. They have a bar, live music, coffee cafe area, dinning area and an out door dinning area. The servers were friendly. We ordered cocktails "Flying Ace" and "Cielo Rosa", Forager Flatbread, and Roasted Beet Salad, and cheese plate. The cocktails were fun and inventive, but maybe a bit too complex for us. The Flying Ace was a smoky old fashioned type drink with a charred cinnamon stick. Maybe the wrong choice for a sunny afternoon outdoor venue. Absolutely delightful brunch we had at Roger Bar. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated and was very festive for the season. We booked a Santa brunch so the kids could meet Santa and when we walked through the door, Santa was sitting over by the tree so enthusiastically waving at us. The kids were delighted! The hostess walked us over to our table and our server, Shannon, greeted us. She was so friendly and helpful the whole time. Before we ate, we walked over to Santa and striked up a conversation with the kids. He was a great Santa and the kids were open to talking to him. They sometimes can be shy, but not with him! After talking, he asked them what their favorite colors were and pulled some small toys from a bag. This was such a nice surprise for the kids and they were excited to take a photo with Santa :) The menu was great and was so hard to choose what to get. I settled on the classic breakfast they had with a mimosa and the kids had the kids meal, Mac n cheese and cheese pizza. We also got them these fun drinks they also offered. I think one was strawberry based and the other was grapefruit based. The server warned us that it has been tart in the past for kids, but we decided to try it anyway. It ended up being good for him at the beginning, but I think it started getting more tart for him so I ended up finishing it for him and I thought it was great! My breakfast was delicious especially the pancakes and the country potatoes. I love the way it was prepared. The eggs were good, but not made in a way I am used to. When the kids food arrived I was surprised how professionally fun they played the food! Sometimes I think restaurants don't put much thought into the kids food, but it actually looked very delicious. The mac n cheese looked like it wasn't made out of a box and the pizza did not look like it was previously frozen. The food came in trays with the fries being my country potatoes, but without the other fix ins and sauce. It also came with a cookie and fruit! Overall, it was an amazing brunch. My friend suggested this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and I took a look at yelp and saw the positive reviews and decided to check it out. It is located in the Ameswell Hotel. We went on a Friday night, ubered there and it was super packed. They tried to seat us at the table right by the door which we didn't like at first since the draft and wind kept coming in. We asked to get moved to a further table and they got us in even though there was some company event that night and most tables were reserved. They were still able to accommodate us which made the night start off right. Inside there was band singing live for us which made the ambiance much more fun. The interior was modern, chic, and in the middle was the bar that glowed! So cool! For the 4 of us this is what we ordered to share: Snacks: Brussel Sprouts $11 (4/5) Nice flavor and slight crisp to the exterior of the brussels sprouts Crab Rangoon Mozzarella Sticks $16 (5/5) If you know me and my love for cheese, you MUST get this so oeey and yummy. Roasted Cauliflower $12 (4/5) I'm not a big cauliflower eater as I prefer broccoli, but this was super tasty also because the cheese sauce on top duh and some yummy toppings! Entrees: Crispy Rice Salad $16 (4/5) A nice mix of various veggies and herbs to get that super crunch with cucumber, edamame, and cabbage, topped with a vinaigrette, and lemongrass crispy rice! I came here to listen to some live music from Ingrid Pontes. The singer was amazing as was the ambience at Roger Bar, which is part of the Ameswell Hotel. Unbelievably bad service. We ordered the Roger Burger and as seen in the picture, the menu clearly states the 'salt roasted fries' were part of the burger and the there would be a choice of side. I think any logical person would interpret it that way. However when our order came out, no fries were included (the side we chose was). When i asked about it, they disputed and said the fries were one of the sides. They said by choosing a side (one of the choices in the menu) I basically replaced the fries. As shown in picture, i think it's pretty clear fries are part of order and the side is separate. Yet despite this logical interpretation, we were refused the fries. Despite us raising valid concerns, we were stonewalled with 'you can talk to my manager' (who conveniently was unavailable/in an interview). 5 stars for the location and ambiance. Roger has great atmosphere if you're looking for a quiet morning/afternoon workspace. It's inside The Ameswell Hotel, with a spacious layout, aviation-inspired design, and a relaxed indoor/outdoor feel that's rarely crowded during daytime hours. They serve coffee drinks and food. The vibe works well for getting work done between sips of coffee. 1-2 stars for the food: they really need to redesign the entire menu completely, in my opinion. The dishes I tried were just underwhelming and did not justify the price point, not even bakery. There is a strange mismatch between the location/ambiance and food. Great spot with nice ambiance in Mountain View. Ample parking nearby and bike racks if you're biking over. There's also live music on Fridays and Saturdays and parking validation if needed. Service is friendly and they come by often enough (especially just before happy hour ends). Happy hour is 15% off everything which is nice, as the prices are higher than what I would expect for the place but the 15% discount makes it a great place to go. This time, I grabbed the chicken katsu and a Josephine Zero mocktail. The katsu was hearty but lacked any noticeable spice to it. The Josephine Zero was great, and I've enjoyed the other mocktails Roger has (there's a lot of mocktails!) The crab rangoon mozzarella sticks were great. Would recommend getting them. read more

We were sat pretty quick but after that forgotten. Multiple people came by after getting a mimosa and ordering food we waited and waited. We got our food and it was the wrong order and we let someone know. we watched it get taken to two other tables before getting it to the right place. After eating we kept waiting and waiting until we had to wave someone down. This is so frustrating because no one checked in on us. Highlight for me is $1/person cake cutting fee! Love it! This is a restaurant inside a hotel and because it's in Mountain View but not the busy commercial area, this is more for group gathering and plan to gather for a bit if you use this location. Saturday night has live music and it's still casual to chat. We are a party of five, came for a quiet birthday gathering. I found the menu seasonal but too few choices for large parties, which means there are repeating orders. We had 2 short ribs order and 1 halibut. They are all just ok. The fish is a bit overcooked because the filet is too thin, the short ribs are a bit dry and to complement it they have a separate bottle of sauce on the side. The "snacks" have more varieties. I was very interested in the fried Maitake mushroom but the spice on it made it tasted a bit weird. The brussel sprouts are good, the caesar salad is good, the garlic fries is not fries size but slides of potato wedges (I think it's good to stuff up big tummies, but for a group of girls this is not very essential). The cauliflower is good but it's a few big pieces, I think they could cut it a bit more to make it more sharable. We also tried their bottle of Sarah's Vineyard pinot called "Dwarf Oak" from Santa Clara Valley. It's not as thin as a regular pinot and tasted very fruity and easy to drink. Service is ok, we got checked on a few times but we had to remind our waitress to refill water and the dirty plates and wine bottle were not promptly taken away. They have a backyard with a very huge and burning warm pit fire. We were attacked by wasps, but saved by the hospitality of the waiters. Our group of 12 was seated outside in the summer, and the weather was really nice. However, a swarm of wasps showed up on our table once we received our food, and the waiters noticed. So, they were really kind and moved our group inside. We have staycationed at Ameswell twice and eaten at Roger both times. I really like the restaurant, and my husband and I were just saying we should come back even when we aren't staying at the hotel. It's one of the most family friendly restaurants I have been to, but to make it even better the food and drinks are great as well. The atmosphere is very relaxed and because the restaurant is indoor-outdoor, kids can easily go back and forth between the table and grassy area (with cornhole, giant Jenga, giant Connect Four). On our recent visit, we ordered 2 kids meals. The butter pasta was good but cooked al dente so it was a little firm for our 1-year-old (but perfectly fine for our older daughter). The fruit salad had strawberries and blackberries which was great - it wasn't just melon! The pizza is more like a flatbread than a traditional pizza just FYI and the chocolate chip cookies were really good! I like how the kids drink can be milk, apple juice, lemonade, orange juice, or a Shirley temple. The adults enjoyed the margherita flatbread, berry salad, and skewers. The skewers were actually from the yakitori grill but we brought them back to eat at our table. I think they are only available on the weekends. Be sure to take advantage of the happy hour. There's plenty of parking and I highly recommend getting seated outdoors, especially now that the weather is warm. When my boyfriend and I went, it was extremely windy outside so we opted for a booth inside. We started with the fries and shishito peppers to go with our cocktails. The fries were so crispy and the shishito peppers came with this sauce that I was basically licking off the plate. The server made sure we got our appetizers first so we can have something to nibble on with our drinks, which I appreciated. We decided to share fish & chips and chicken schnitzel for our main and the tartar sauce was divine! Lots of herbs and the fish was perfectly seasoned and thick. I really like the setting of this venue. It's a green open environment with a modern design. The food is ok, but the bar is fully stocked and there are many nice spaces, rooms and outdoor seating areas to hang out with friends. We have mixed feelings because our first visit, we absolutely loved the food, the attentive and fast service, and the beautiful outdoor patio! We found their burger to be very tasty/juicy despite us asking for it a bit more well done, and the brussels sprouts were so good. Wagyu Cheeseburger - 9/10, very tasty and was fantastic the first time we ordered. The second time, we felt it was a bit dry unfortunately so seems hit or miss. Pork Tenderloin - 7/10, an interesting take on the dish and not bad. We just didn't feel like the portions and uniqueness made up for the hefty price tag Green Garden Rice - 2/10, definitely wouldn't order again. We ordered it to try the hojicha but it was mostly watery at the bottom and mostly tasted pretty bland. The second and third times we've visited - we asked to sit outside and were denied due to another reservation that never seemed to show up in the 2 hours we ended up dining there. Instead, we were given a darker table in the back and we had to ask twice for the happy hour menu despite having 30min left on the actual happy hour event. Food was more dry (burger) the second time, and their Popcorn Chicken appetizer - while the idea is cute and fun, only had a few pieces of chicken with mostly a full bag of popcorn so we didn't feel like it was worth the price. read more

Been coming to the Roger Bar & Restaurant for years and it never disappoints. Whether it's dinner or brunch, Roger Bar & Restaurant hits every time. My two favorite things to eat here are their Cheeseburger and Breakfast Sandwich. However, they have plenty of other delicious options to choose from. They also have great drinks and they put unique twist on traditional cocktails. When we come we usually have a large party and the staff are very accommodating. At times service can be slow, but it's never been a really big issue for me. Looking forward to coming to the Roger Bar & Restaurant again and I certainly recommend! read more

Came back here recently and unfortunately it was not as "impressive" as the first time. The cocktail was not as good. My halibut tasted like it was steamed with no seasonings added. It tasted like my cooking and who would want that...lol read more

I don't even know where to begin. I came in for my valentines dinner, when I was sat I was only given the valentines dinner menu. I noticed that everyone around me had been given the regular dinner menus as well as the valentine's day menus. No problem. Next I ordered the seafood tower, which for starters is $100. They claimed to have forgotten the dungeoness crab spoons which was supposed to be included. 2 uni toasts were missing. To compensate for that I was offered a dessert by the food runner not even our waiter which I declined because dessert simply doesn't makeup for it. We were there for about 2 & 1/2 hours and 80% of that was waiting for food. Overall, horrible service , won't be back. read more
