One of the top restaurants in the region. I love coming here when I come into town. They have a standard menu and then they have weekly specials that rotate. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I highly recommend trying out the specials as they are always a hit! Some favorites that were on the menu the week we were there were the Parmesan Crusted Filet, Chicken Parm Sliders and the Short Rib Dipping Tacos. On Thursdays they do $ 7 specialty cocktails. The parking here can be difficult during holidays and weekends because you have to park in downtown valpo so give yourself enough time to park. Did not even stay to order food. The waitress made an unnecessary ordeal about my ID tonight. She checked it, then came back, took it inside with her for about 5 minutes, came back out and started serving other tables, and then brought it back at least another 5 minutes later and refused to serve me unless I provided another form of identification WITH my birthday (my debit card and other personal ID did not work) because every 25 year old carries an extra passport in their wallet...We ended up having to leave which she was completely unapologetic for. This wasted about 30 minutes and it was extremely uncomfortable as well as embarrassing to have this big fuss occur in front of all the other people on the patio. Needless to say we will not be going back. If you're under 30 expect to be grilled about your ID and not served. read more

I've gotten the ribs there and they were VERY tender and flavorful. The drinks are always good! The only thing I would say is to ditch the paper straws! I didn't drink my cocktail as fast so the straw wore down in the drink. The service is always great and the atmosphere is Amazing. I look forward to coming to the rooftop just to admire it. Absolutely loved this place in Valparaiso! It was my first time visiting the city so this place was highly recommended by the locals ! The ambiance was like a library which was pretty cute for a college town ! Do try the chicken Parmesan there ! It's was delicious ! Fair warning the portion was huge !! They literally served in a tray! I could not finish mine so had to box it. As the interior resembles a library they had Library cards where you can try beer from the menu and get a stamp every-time you try a beer. Once you get all 50 stamps from the library card menu, you get your name on the wall ! I found the concept super interesting. The service was quick and efficient ! Stack's came highly recommended by a friend. While it's not fancy-looking, it was a really nice meal! We elected to order a bunch of shared apps for our table vs ordering entrees - glad we did. This way, we were able to try a bunch of different things, which I love to do anyway. We ordered: -Grilled Lamb Chops- these chops were cooked to perfection. Very tender and well-seasoned! -Mini Burgers- the flavor of these baby burgers were good, but I would have loved if they were a bit more juicy and moist. It's very easy to overcook beef sliders, so it wasn't a huge disappointment since they tasted good. -Truffle Fries- these were solid and salty(in a good way) haha. -Creole Wings- these wings were delicious. You don't even need the remoulade dipping sauce; I totally forgot about it while eating. They were so good on their own. -Steak Tacos- the steak tacos were very filling. The filet mignon tips? Seasoned to perfection. The Heisenberg drink was very good. And very cute! And very dangerous - I felt the liquor but I couldn't taste it haha. Imbibe at your own risk :D The ambience of the rooftop felt like a college restaurant (which it kinda is) and was pretty loud on a Saturday night. The rooftop is a great place to grab some drinks, have an appetizer, or even dinner. They have a full menu as well as a strong wine and specialty drink menu. The only difference from the main dining area is that the weekly specials aren't available in the roof. The filet was cooked perfectly and the drinks were quite tasty. The deconstructed pot pie is pretty awesome too. We had the stuffed mushrooms and the bread sticks. Both fantastic. The mushrooms are stuffed with steak and crab and served is a delicious sauce. The breadsticks are light and fresh and brushed with garlic butter and come with Alfredo. Excellent place! read more

First off... there are two reasons this place is getting 4 stars instead of 5. 1... The name is "Bar & Grill" which typically indicates lunch & dinner. I made an assumption like other bar & grills this was a lunch/dinner spot. It's not. It's a breakfast/brunch spot. Which is weird that they'd have a full open bar but zero lunch menu items. Maybe it changed over somewhere along the way? I don't know. We got there 15 minutes before closing, figuring we'd find somewhere else to eat if they were no longer seating. They were seating a couple last-minute spots (like us), and we got a seat right away. They told us we had to have our food by 2pm because that's when the kitchen closed. Which is fine, as we're typically fast in deciding what we want to eat. The server was on it, attentive and quick. She probably wanted to get off work on time. Not that I'd blame her. ‍ I can't speak to what the service is like when they're swamped, as since it was so close to closing time there were only a handful of stragglers still at tables. The staff did start cleaning up, taking out trash, etc. while we were finishing up. Mind you this was right at around 2:15 as we didn't get our food until after 2pm and we ate really fast. I thought it a bit tacky that they'd be taking the trash out right next to our table while we were still eating... thankfully it didn't smell. So I guess that's already 2 reasons... so I actually have 3. There's only TWO gluten-free items on their menu. I'm sure they can accommodate things like omelets if it's not a shared griddle, but that was kinda disappointing as it looked from the photos others posted that they also had lunch stuff like burgers with gluten-free buns. That wasn't the case. Again, maybe this place used to do lunch/dinner & switched... but it kinda needs to change its name away from "Bar & Grill." So... 4 stars instead of 3 because the skillet meal was REALLY good. I mean, if I can only choose from 2 things on the menu & both are skillet meals, I'm glad it was at least delicious! And I got 3 meals out of it, the portions are a lot larger than they appear to be. (Hubs got 2 portions out of his and we had the same thing.) Bonus points for the super cool bookshelves everywhere filled with old books & the library ladder right behind our table. Definitely a cool vibe. Just work on your menu. read more

The good. Food was amazing along with the service. We had the filet and my hubby had the strip steak. What I didn't like was the Sauvignon Blanc. When does a Sauvignon Blanc have an oaky taste. That is a Chardonnay. So good thing our waitress warned me about the Sauvignon Blanc having an oaky taste. Visited Stacks on a busy pre-holiday evening (July 3rd) and the vibe was super fun! Staff was hustling and on point but seemed to be still having fun with customers and each other (I love seeing that). Food was on point and our server Brenna (I think I got her name right) was so great. One call out in case it helps someone else visiting this month before the specials change: the "brick chicken" special is for sure an entire chicken. Like brought out to you in its entirety along with potatos and asparagus! Staff seemed surprised by it too honestly. I always told myself I would never be an angry Yelp reviewer. But I guess after having over 500 reviews, I am due for one. The first time I came to Stacks was phenomenal. I just could not rave more about it. However, I was told they post specials on a Facebook page. I go to their Facebook page and see a menu for Steak Pop-up. I look at the menu and there is a burger that sounds phenomenal called The Aristocrat Burger. This burger is made from prime rib and brisket with aged cheddar, pepper havarti, French onions, mayo, and steak sauce. For $16, this burger sounds phenomenal. I assume they have started this menu. I go in last week and ask about it. My server tells me it starts next week. All right, I'll come back next week. I return a week later and I am seated downstairs. My server hands me a menu and I don't see this special steak menu. I ask her about it and she tells me it is for upstairs only. So I go back to the hostess stand and ask if I can be seated upstairs. She goes upstairs and tells me I can sit up there. I go to the top and see a few open tables. I sit at one table made for 2 people. A moment later, the waitress asks me if someone seated me there. I tell her the hostess told me to come up. The waitress told me I had to check in with Michael because this was a reservation event. I am 99% of the time an easy-going go with the flow guy but I am getting very frustrated now. She talks to Michael and tells me I can stay...but I can only order an appetizer and drink...not the damn burger I came for. I get up and storm out angry. I look on the Facebook post and it did say "reservations accepted" not "reservations necessary." I call back this evening for a reservation. Of course there is no reservation available for tonight or tomorrow night. The Steak menu was only for Tuesday - Friday. What's laughable is that the hostess I spoke to on the phone said they do take some walk-ins for the rooftop. No thank you...I know how that story ends. So the first time I ate here was phenomenal. The 2nd time was ok. And the 3rd time I left without eating and there will not be a 4th time. I thought the Facebook page needed to say reservations needed. There needs to be better communication between the hostess and the top floor. And dammit, don't make a special menu for just part of the restaurant, seat me, then tell me I can't order it. read more

We ordered an appetizer, Stuffed Portabella, which to be honest didn't look like much but holy deliciousness. He got the Stuffed Chicken. He says it was so good and it was filling. I cannot remember the last time he had to take food home. ^_~ I got the Blackened Salmon. And cuz I'm a piggy I didn't take anything home. It doesn't help that it was just so great. Food was real good, but the place is too small and very crowded and does not open up till 4 o'clock. Meaning you are standing in line waiting for the doors to open and it's not clearly marked the entrance. You have to actually go through a building, walk-through a hallway and wait for the doors to open. The food was good. The service was great but we ended up sitting in a bar area and we had obnoxious people that were loud and kept hitting the back seats and we were in a booth.
