Mother of gluten-free pancake god. This place was so freaking good I nearly cried. Woke up with a gnarly hangover and demanded pancakes. I have a wheat allergy so my pancake demand also required that they be gluten-free. This is the first (and almost the only) place that showed up on my Yelp search for those requirements. I've actually had this place bookmarked for awhile because I like the name and that's usually all it takes to reel me in. Stacks is right next to Chronic Tacos on PCH...park on top of the building (you'll see what I mean) and take the steps down. There are plenty of tables inside but the patio (shared by Chronic Tacos) is much nicer for breakfast in my opinion. Order up at the counter and they'll bring your food out (seems like more and more places in South OC are doing things that way lately). We got there close to 11am and it was plenty crowded but still lots of seating available. The girl who took our order was super helpful and relatively friendly....my experience with the staff here overall was excellent though. Breakfast menu has everything: oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, french toast, crepes, benedicts, egg dishes, scrambles, omelets and a couple Mexican inspired breakfast options. I went with a very obvious choice for me: banana pancakes (gluten-free of course). The prices are insanely reasonable. $4.75 for a short stack (3) and $5.75 for a regular order (5)...there's an up-charge for GF as always, but I'm not sure how much and she didn't tell me (nor did I care). I ordered regular and the girl advised me that the short stack was probably plenty so I said ok but then my dude made me get the regular anyway. I made it through one and a half before slumping over in a carb coma. They were SO FUCKING GOOD. I'd go so far as to say they were the best gluten-free pancakes I've ever had. They have a variety of syrups up at the front: sugar-free, boysenberry, maple...but I HIGHLY recommend the coconut syrup. Insanely good, especially with banana. My dude ordered banana nutella crepes and Captain Crunch and peanut butter french toast which he added bananas to upon suggestion of the cashier. It was a lot of food. I think the crepes and french toast were each $6-$7, again very reasonable. The coffee here is good and they also have espresso drinks available. I will be back here ASAP as possible. read more

Stacks has great food; their pancakes are fluffy and perfect; it is very clean; however, they have few vegetarian options, and they serve everything on 100% throw-away place settings. Why is dana point so food challenged? This was yelpers top breakfast pick and it was ok at best. Had the kalua pig omelet. Pork was bland, omelet covered in bland yellow cheese and topped with a bland tomato sauce. No smoky pig, no onions, no flavor. Service was fine but u better arrive before 7:45 on a sunday, i felt like a rabbit surrounded by coyotes as we finishedi our meal. Good breakfast spot, particularly when you want more variety and low key when you are staying at one of the nearby resort hotels. We came over on bicycles from one of the resort hotels and had a good breakfast. Nothing really fancy the food tastes good and there are a lot if menu choices. I would recommend this place for families with young children as well! read more

This was the last meal my sister and I shared when she came to visit - and it was perfect! Crowded on a Sunday morning, but the line moves quickly and food comes fast. The prices are unbeatable for the quality. Had my first mexican hot chocolate ever - and now I don't want hot chocolate any other way. Had breakfast here on Sunday 7-10-16. Had heard it was GREAT!! So excited to go. I ordered a veggie omelette (simple right?), my husband ordered eggs Benedict (another simple dish, right?) Well my veggie omelette came and it was almost all chopped onion and tomatoes ( like salsa !!). One small piece of spinach at the end and about 2 small slices of mushrooms!!! My husbands eggs Benedict was VERY VERY runny including the whites of the eggs !! The girl asked how the food was and we told her. Her reply was "you have to tell the cook how long you want the eggs cooked" !!! She did not offer any solutions or apologize !! I have never in my life seen eggs served where the whites of poached eggs were runny. His plate looked like a bowl of egg soup !! We should have taken a picture but we were so grossed out we didn't. If I could give this place no stars I would! I highly don't recommend ordering eggs !! So we spent $22 in a crappy breakfast !! I guess we're lucky we didn't get food poisoning !!! Do not miss a chance to eat here! It's not big or fancy, but they are very fast, have excellent service, and the best pancakes that I have had. We had banana strawberry Nutella crepes, banana pancakes, strawberry pancakes, and a California omelette with a short stack. The crepes and the regular pancakes were our favorites, but everything was excellent. Bonus: the prices are very reasonable. Our family of five ate until we were stuffed for $50! We had time to grab breakfast since our boat to Catalina Island was cancelled. The nearest places to grab a bite was Dennys or Mickey Ds and since these are everywhere, we decided to try something new. Our experience at Stacks was great. We were warmly greeted when we walk in and promptly handed a menu. Their menu does have a good selection and it was tough to choose because everything sounded tasty. Once you make your selection, you go up to the counter & order. Service was very quick & the visual appeal was awesome! Portion sizes are great for the price you pay. We ordered a Lite Bite with a side of home fries, Loco Moco, Large Orange Juice and Iced Coffee -- including tip it was $24.00, that is not bad at all. My only negative was the Loco Moco was a little bland, nothing a little black pepper & Tabasco cannot fix. The seating inside is pretty small & it's first come first serve basis. There is outdoor seating but since it was cold, that wasn't an option. Overall, the experience was great & we will return when we're in Dana Point. read more

Had breakfast here at around 11:30am on a Friday morning. No line up and lots of open tables. Great menu options. My partner ate Captain McNut French toast with a side of strawberries which were both fresh and tasty. I had the California omelette with pancakes - extremely filling. The salsa that comes with the omelette had the perfect amount of bite to it. I don't love that you have to order first and sit down... but the service and food was great so still a good experience. I have been a fan of Stacks forever and made it down to the Dana Point one ( which I live not even 5 minutes from ) finally. It is super busy on weekends and I had a weekday off so I gave this location a try instead of my usual Mission Viejo one :) What can I say, I have a love for the islands and this place offers many island favorites !! The staff is incredibly nice and attentive. One person who specifically stood out was Juanita. She came around several times to offer beverage refills as well as if we wanted anything with our omelets such as salsa. She always had a smile on her face and was so kind !! read more

Stacks did not disappoint. The food was good, the service was beyond 5 star, and I thought ordering at the counter was a good idea. My food came fast and they where on top of making sure we had everything we needed to make it an enjoyable dining experience. Outside seating was nice, the traffic didn't impede conversation. The only 2 negatives I can think of is the inside seating was tight and no hash browns, just potatoes for the breakfast plate. I had the omelette and it was tasty. My eating partner in crime had the pancakes, eggs, and bacon. For drinks we had coffee, tea, and ice water with lemon. Everything was on point. read more
