Stacks is definitely the place to go if you're hungry. The portions are very generous--think big plates and filling breakfasts. My husband would have absolutely loved it here. For me, though, everything felt a bit oversized, and I would've happily traded some of the volume for slightly higher‑quality ingredients. Nothing was bad, just more about quantity than refinement. If you're looking for a hearty, no‑nonsense breakfast that will keep you full for hours, this is your spot. If you lean toward smaller portions and ingredient‑forward dishes, it may not be your first choice. I gave it a 3 vs a 4 because the pancakes were doughy on the inside

I was excited I was right near this place and got to have a good hawaiian style breakfast! The pancakes were amazing and the ube syrup really made it. The loco moco with the longanisa was good but I would want to try another meat next time. Good portions for the price and the staff were super friendly and kept everything clean. I also really like they had a lot of outdoor seating where you can enjoy the views.

I was skeptical about going to a pancake chain, after several unimpressive experiences with IHOP. This is the only Stacks I've been to and it was good. The portions were generous, and it was surprisingly tasty. Everyone finished their meals or got takeout boxes. Service was friendly. Seating is tight on a Saturday, so grab a table quickly if you see one. The parking situation in the complex is even worse, but not an issue if you don't mind parking on the street and walking.

this is one of our favorite brunch places! we got the the loco moco with katsu & kalua pork omelette with a side of macadamia pancakes. the pancakes were so delicious. they had the crispy crust on the outsides and were soft in the middle. the sauce in the loco moco complimented the katsu very well. the food is delicious however it might be a little difficult to find parking in this area.

Casual breakfast place when staying in Dana Point that I've been visiting for over ten years. It closes at 2:00. I recommend the buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, Loco Moco and the breakfast sandwiches. The food was good at this place, the waiting line was like 20-30 min. The parking is next to the building. When you park get down by the stairs and it takes you directly to the place. The environment is nice, music not loud, good to talk. The reason I give 4 stars is because of the cashier she wasn't paying attention, I asked for macadamia pancakes but she didn't put it on the order, we have to reorder and waste.more time because of the time. We are shorter on time sometimes because of work, and visiting places like this will be amazing if they can save us time.

We had such a good experience here! got a breakfast burrito with kahlua pork + a hawaiian latte (macademia nut + coconut). I will say the drinks run a little sweet (I asked for less sweet and it was perfect) but the staff are super nice and can make it with fewer pumps!

I ordered the two eggs with protein bacon was my protein. I selected pancakes. I also had coffee. Everything was good. The pancakes didn't come out with the eggs and bacon. I was almost finished when they came out. I had to use a lot of cream because the coffee was strong. It reminded me of Kona coffee. Everyone was really nice and I liked the island music.

I ordered the burrito and vanilla latte. The burrito I ordered with the corned beef hash. it was flavorless without the salsa, or the beans. now I know why I only order pancakes when I go here. The line is always quite long too. You should get here early if you don't want to wait so long to order. The latte was decent. My partner ordered a latte as well, I don't remember what it was, because it was on the special latte menu. It looks and sounded like it would have some sweetness, but it was very much lacking sweetness for her, so she added some sweetener. Since you pay and tip before you get your food, I noticed the service was minimal while we were seated and waiting for our food. The price wasn't too bad, especially considering the location. Also, the parking lot is on the smaller side, but somehow, I have always found a parking spot, even though it feels like it's the last parking spot whenever I go. I have good memories here, but I prob won't be going back anytime soon.

Love the food here. The pancakes are some of the fluffiest pancakes I've tried. We got the cookies and cream Pancakes, eggs and steak hibachi, and the loco moco with chicken katsu. Everything was so flavorful. The steak was so delicious and tender. Maybe a little on the saltier side but nothing that was deter me from getting it again. The loco moco sauce was flavorful. You order before you take a seat. So take a look at the menu beforehand so you know what to decide on. And good look deciding because everything sounded so good. I would like to go back and try some of the other pancakes they have. It's a small place but nothing overwhelming once you find your seat.

Stacks Pancake House is always buzzing with people, and for good reason--the food is delicious and the portions are generous. It's tough to find a time when there isn't a line, but if you're willing to wait, it's absolutely worth it. The menu offers something for everyone, from fluffy pancakes and hearty burritos to French toast, crepes, and more. They also bring in island flavors with Hawaiian favorites like spam and eggs, ube-inspired dishes and drinks, plus all the classic lattes and coffee drinks you'd expect. I ordered the Garden Stuffed Crepe and it did not disappoint. It was flavorful, satisfying, and filling without being heavy. I also tried the lattes, which were smooth and delicious--I'd definitely order both again. Service is solid, especially considering how busy it always is. Seating is limited, and the restaurant doesn't allow you to reserve or save spots in line. At first that might feel inconvenient, but it keeps things moving quickly. Usually by the time you place your order, a table opens up. Parking is manageable, though the rooftop parking behind the restaurant has very tight spaces--so be prepared to squeeze in. Street parking is another good option if you prefer. All in all, Stacks is a warm, family-style restaurant that delivers consistently great food and a lively atmosphere. If you're in the area and looking for a breakfast or brunch spot, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

I have been a fan of Stacks forever and made it down to the Dana Point one ( which I live not even 5 minutes from ) finally. It is super busy on weekends and I had a weekday off so I gave this location a try instead of my usual Mission Viejo one :) What can I say, I have a love for the islands and this place offers many island favorites !! The staff is incredibly nice and attentive. One person who specifically stood out was Juanita. She came around several times to offer beverage refills as well as if we wanted anything with our omelets such as salsa. She always had a smile on her face and was so kind !! read more

Stacks did not disappoint. The food was good, the service was beyond 5 star, and I thought ordering at the counter was a good idea. My food came fast and they where on top of making sure we had everything we needed to make it an enjoyable dining experience. Outside seating was nice, the traffic didn't impede conversation. The only 2 negatives I can think of is the inside seating was tight and no hash browns, just potatoes for the breakfast plate. I had the omelette and it was tasty. My eating partner in crime had the pancakes, eggs, and bacon. For drinks we had coffee, tea, and ice water with lemon. Everything was on point. read more

Great things come in small Stacksages. Believe it! World's smallest restaurant (slight exaggeration). But, huge on food. Great concept, great menu, great food, great service. Had the blueberry pancakes. They were great! Had bacon and eggs on side. Bacon had a real good flavor. Though...lines are long. You do have to fight for a table while you are in line so prepare to get in vulture mode. Kind of annoying when you're eating and someone is standing there waiting for you to finish to steal your table....but...guess they're just paying you back for you have to do the same thing. This is my go-to breakfast spot in South Orange County! First things first...they have gluten free pancakes, which is clutch for this gluten free foodie. Even better, they have boysenberry and coconut syrups, that are both deelish. When it comes down to it though, my favorite dish on the menu is the Santa Fe scramble (add bacon). It is the perfect combination of flavors, and always hits the spot. I swear my boyfriend looks over and wonders why he didn't order my breakfast almost every time. Note: there is pretty much always a line, but its generally pretty quick, and worth the wait. read more

We were excited to see Stacks opening next to Cronic Tacos as we've been driving to the Pancake House in Laguna Hills for years. While we both found the service extremely attentive, in fact even too attentive at times; I'm sorry to say that the flavor and taste of our food simply wasn't there for us. The omlettes proportions were out of balance with too much egg for the quantity of ingredients inside. Our pancakes also missed the mark, lacking a succulent flavor and leaving a processed after-tase behind. The restaurant was bright and clean and the cashier/server was constantly checking-in, but we left disappointed in the taste of our food. read more

Picked up this Groupon deal for $10 for $20 worth of eats at Stacks. Already had great reviews to say on Yelp and once I read the menu which highlights Hawaiian breakfast staples I was sold. Yesterday we finally had a free Saturday to go out and check out this place. We were not disappointed. Right off PCH in Dana Point, located in a small strip mall next to a Chronic Tacos is where you can find Stacks. Cute, small and casual this walk up to order joint is quick, easy and has really friendly and attentive staff. You walk in, line up and look over a large green menu picking out what yummy Hawaiian or traditional breakfast item to order. Since we had a $20 groupon, we decided on Spam + Eggs, Corned Beef Hash + Eggs and their Hawaiian Sweet Bread French Toast. With the meat and egg combos, you also get your choice of Toast, Rice or Pancake. What a great deal for $6-8 a plate, especially here in OC. My husband got the pancake with his Spam + Eggs while I upgraded my rice to Fried Rice which was perfect with my corned beef hash. All our dishes were great, although my husband would have preferred 'crispier' spam. One last thing to mention, they have shared outdoor seating with Chronic Tacos, so we were able to bring our little dog to chill on the patio with. They have indoor seating as well, probably about 18-20 seats. We loved the quick and friendly service, along with yummy Hawaiian breakfast items that is hard to find in South OC. I'd definitely come back! read more

My second review for Stacks. One MAJOR criticism of Stacks: With all the mediocre and lousy breakfast places around, Stacks should be much bigger and better located. Its a crime that more people can't eat there. New and interesting specials every week. Real breakfast choices. Nowhere better. Too bad if you missed it! read more

Found this place today and fell in love with it! At first there was a line and it seemed like it would take forever but it didn't! It moved really fast and our food was brought out to us, piping hot, within minutes of ordering. The pancakes are divine and very spongey/fluffy/soft; they're definitely one of my new favorites! The sun dried tomato/pesto scramble (pictured) was on the "Today's Special" menu and was hella good. My mom got the Florentine scramble (not pictured) had spinach/peppers/cheese/bacon and was devoured. The workers were very sweet and attentive too. I guess I'm not a big pancake lover.... good food, had the blueberry pancakes, Portuguese sausage and two eggs... all fine, the sausage very tasty, pancakes had lots of blueberries. Getting away for the weekend we drove down to Dana Point, and stopped for breakfast. This place couldn't have been better for wonderful food at a good price. The tasty smell of pancakes is in the air as soon as you walk in. Dining room is a little cramped but if it's a nice day outside there is ample patio space available. I don't give 5 stars very often but this place deserves it. Great food as close to Hawaiian breakfast as you can get. The staff is always nice and quick. The only downfall is that it can get crowded but that's because its so good. Stop here or the MV location for so good grub! And even the music gives a decent island feel. What's amazing about it also is that they are so young. 4 employees helped as in various different task and they did with with courtesy and professionalism. Very busy, not worth the wait for the food. We waited in line for 20min, then waited another 40min for food...wait correctionon that! My husband waited an additional 15 after waiting inline, I waited an additional 40 min for a simple cheeseburger. Mine was awful. My husband had the captain mcnut for breakfast and he said it was pretty good. Overral, my experience was bad. I mean they don't even serve your order together. Service was very bad, waitresses are rude and the cashier guy tried to overcharge me. We will not be coming back here. Ever. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Nixon T.

Nixon Tanuwidjaja has spent his life pursuing his passion for uniquely delicious meals. Working full time in a restaurant while he put himself through college, Nixon realized how much he enjoyed the hospitality industry and began his pursuit to own his own restaurant concept. Directing operations for four Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles gave Nixon two life-changing experiences, an appreciation of the delicate nuances of Asian Cuisine and an introduction to Ovita who would soon become his wife and partner. The opportunity to move to Hawaii, allowed Nixon and Ovita to experience the Aloha of Hawaiian cooking that infuses Hawaiian and Asian influences into their favorite meal of the day - breakfast. On top of that, the small baguette served with the stew felt out of proportion to the amount of broth. There wasn't enough bread to enjoy the dish properly, which left the meal feeling incomplete. We loved the Lechon Banh Mi, and that was the redeeming part of our order. Unfortunately, when it came to the other food and drinks we tried, they just didn't quite hit the mark for us. While we're glad we gave LUA a try, it's probably not a place we'll revisit for those particular menu items.

I then walked over to the counter and asked the employee if the hour parking in the alley was strictly enforced because I planned to be there for about two hours. She said she didn't know. I replied that I would probably have to leave in the middle of lunch to move my car, yet she never mentioned that Giana has a parking lot for customers just on the other side of the building. I only found out because my friend arrived and told me where she had parked. I can't understand why an employee wouldn't share such helpful information with a customer. As for the food, we were the only guests in the restaurant at lunchtime. We ordered a chicken salad and a pasta dish. My salad was very good, but my friend's pasta was unbelievably salty, to the point that it actually burned both of our throats. It was easily the saltiest restaurant dish I've ever tasted. Our server never came back to check on us after delivering the food, so after waiting for quite a while, I had to walk up to the counter and ask her to come to our table. She immediately offered to replace the pasta, and my friend ordered the sausage pasta instead. She really enjoyed the second dish. Since we wanted to try dessert, we each ate only about half of our meals and asked for the leftovers to be boxed up. We also ordered two affogatos, which were delicious and ended the meal on a high note. Unfortunately, that didn't last. The server took our plates to package our leftovers, returned with two bags, called out what she believed were our meals, and handed them to us. We each drove home, about 30 minutes in opposite directions, only to discover that she had given us wrong leftovers. We both lost the meals we had been looking forward to eating for dinner and had to throw away the food we were mistakenly given. I called the restaurant afterward and left a voicemail explaining what had happened, but no one ever returned my call or acknowledged the mistake as a courtesy. There were definitely positives. My salad, the replacement pasta, and the affogatos were all good. However, the overall experience was overshadowed by several avoidable service issues: the lack of parking guidance, having to get up to ask for service after receiving an inedible dish, the mix-up with our leftovers, and the lack of follow up after I called. They recently opened, and knowing the owners previously operated Citrus City Grille and Pandor Bakery, I knew the food and dessert would be good. We ordered the Niçoise Salad, Prime Hanger Steak, Wild Mushroom Penne, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Soufflé. Everything was so good but the standout was the Chocolate Soufflé (with espresso martinis). It's perfectly rich with a warm, molten center. Just be sure to order it early while you're enjoying your meal since it takes about 30 minutes to prepare. If you're in Dana Point and looking for an excellent food, delicious desserts, and outstanding service, Bon Appétit Café definitely deserves a spot on your list.

I'd have given it 2 stars, but they are still fairly new and might still be figuring things out; however, I wish I would have read reviews before I went (other than the one on 12/8 that looks like it was possibly written by the owner!) Dana Point SO needs a nice, clean breakfast place. The ones in the Harbor are beat, Harbor House is gross and Bonjour is totally overpriced, overrated and has 1 server waiting on 20 tables. That leaves the St. Regis and the Ritz Carlton$$$$$ I am a big fan of eggs benedict . . . but not on a cardboard plate!!! *Note - sauce on cardboard makes for a soggy plate and bad presentation. My friend opted for the breakfast pork chops. The presentation was a chop on a paper plate. Dry, no garnish, no color. She ate it anyway because she was starving. We would have sat outside because it was such a nice day, but the tables were a bit rusty and not wiped down. The place is very cute inside. Your order is placed at the counter, they give you a number then deliver your order to the table. I much prefer to be waited on -- and with two girls standing behind the counter in a restaurant with only 10 tables -- it seems I very well could have been. But I understand that is not their concept. The girls were friendly -- especially the one with the glued-on smile, a bit overkill. If they move away from paper plates and offer table service, I will give it another try... read more

This place is absolutely horrible!!! People beware do not order food from this place. I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for my food to be delivered. The delivery guy calls at the 1:30 mark and states that he'll be making it to my house within 10 minutes. However, I called him back and he stated that he returned the food back to the restaurant because I hung up the phone without saying bye or announcing the called had ended. This is absurd, especially considering the fact that the food was already paid for through seemless. At this point, my credit card has been charged and I have no food after waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes. So thereafter, I call the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager-and staff states that the manager is not in as of 8:54am-remind you this is a breakfast restaurant. People please save yourself the trouble and do not order from this terrible place. I don't know how they can receive anywhere near two stars let alone 4 stars. Beware the service is the worst in New Jersey!!! This place sucks big time!!! read more

Mr Nixon : The owner of stacks pancake house. I took my wife for breakfast after a stressful and hard week and treatment for cancer to have breakfast in your restaurant in Dana Point. There was a long line of students and their group exceeded 40 students. I took my place in the line while my wife found an empty table to sit on as she was very tired and exhausted at the time. ( Big and Short Girl ) The manager of the restaurant came yelling at her in a rude way and telling her to leave the table because she didn't have a number and then the whole customers turn around to see what's going on that very embarrassing and insulting and inhuman, I didn't want to leave a comment, but the look of sadness and shame in my wife's eyes hurt me a lot, Our family usually gather here every weekend after church. I know since your business got so busy you don't care about costumers any more, But you just lost our business. We never come back. read more

To begin with, this meal costs approximately $40, but the price is not my primary concern. I ordered gluten-free pancakes, and it was immediately apparent that they were made from Kodiak pancake mix, a brand readily available at grocery stores. The pancakes were overly flat, and given my celiac condition, I had to pay an additional $4 just to substitute them in, which feels entirely unreasonable for the quality I received. Furthermore, my eggs were served at an unacceptable temperature--ice cold, to be precise. While I understand that eggs don't stay warm for long, these were served as if they hadn't been reheated at all. I was forced to request a replacement. Additionally, the restaurant itself had an unpleasant odor, which only added to the disappointing experience. The overall quality of the food did not remotely justify the price, and I feel compelled to warn others: this dining experience falls far below expectations. read more

I use to live in Hawaii and miss the local food there. I found stacks and was in heaven. Their portions are great! I got the Loco Moco with Spam and also had the regular with beef patties. It comes with the regualr gravy and rice. The gravy is what makes a loco moco and I loved theirs! A little sriracha hot sauce on it and mmmm mmm mm!! The chicken katsu I had once at lunch. It wasn't bad, it was amazing either. I'm not sure if I recall ever having any that was amazing. Probably haven't or I would remember. Anyway, their current special for the last month now is the chicken waffles. If you can handle a little spicy, its spicy mayo on top which is sriracha mixed with mayo and its on top of chicken, waffles topped off with melted cheese! So great! Took familly there from out of town. Lots of parking and great prices for being on the coast in Dana Point! read more

The vibe at this spot is super chill, perfect for a laid-back meal. They've got most of their seating outside, but there's a bit of room inside, although it fills up quick. We lucked out and grabbed a spot outside just in time. As for the grub, I went for the meat lovers omelette, and the missus opted for the protein omelette. Both were solid picks. I was so hungry that I couldn't even pause for a pic, but trust me, they looked as good as they tasted. My omelette was packed with savory goodness, didn't need any fancy extras, just a sprinkle of pepper and a dash of hot sauce to kick things up a notch. Now, the wife's dish could've used a bit more flavor, but she was still pleased with her choice. The service was good, but there was a small hiccup - our meals were brought separately. Nonetheless, it didn't put a damper on our meal in this relaxed setting! read more

Woke up on a sunday morning really excited to eat at stacks. Once we arrived, I was kinda blah. Before even looking at the menu I was disappointed. The atmosphere is not very accommodating and its so small/crowded that it gives off a sense of urgency (once we got our food I felt like i was being timed and needed to eat and leave quickly). So if you are looking for a place to relax, and enjoy a nice breakfast - it's not the place to be. Ordering at the counter is not was I was looking for. Coffee was great. Food was eh ok. My boyfriend and I split a ham & cheese omelette and the captain crunch & nut french toast. Their timing is way off! We got our omelette and 10 mns later we got our french toast. (it seems like it was happening to everyone around us.) To me, it is overpriced and the portions are small. Not a fan. read more

This is my Sunday spot!!! Every Sunday before church, I grab breakfast here and seriously, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I like that you pay in advance and the food comes out super fast! If you get there after 8am on the weekend, good luck finding a seat because it gets pretty packed! There Philly Cheesesteak omelete, Eggs benedict, Crepe, Portuguese Sausage omelete are great!! I get fruits with sometimes in the breakfast combo or you can get 3 pancakes. Their coconut syrup is unreal and addicting!! HIghly recommended if you have friends in town or family! I like that its right off the coast. I go early enough to always find parking right out front. They have a parking structure right above so there's good parking there. read more

Stacks never disappoints. Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast or something sweet, this place always delivers. The food comes out fresh, portions are generous, and everything is packed with flavor. What really keeps me coming back is the consistency. Great service, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. It's the kind of breakfast spot that makes it hard to try anywhere else because you know you're going to have a great meal here. All I need to say is that their loco Moco lives up to the expectations. You have options of getting hamburger meat, spam, Portuguese sausage, etc. and I got the Portuguese sausage and it was really good. They gave 5 big slices with over easy eggs and a ton of rice. For only $7.95 and about a 15 minute wait (don't let the line intimidate you cause it goes by fast!), I absolutely loved the place. My only issue was that the server who kept walking around and handing menus to the people in line and trying to get us all organized wasn't too friendly. What happened to this place? Did they change owner or cook? The food here used to be really good, but the last two times I have been here the food was horrible. The quality of the food is different. The breakfast I get has ham, but the last two times I've had it, the quality of the meat was pathetic. Not sure if they are trying to save money and buying cheaper products, but I have no desire to go to this place anymore. read more

This place is SO GOOD. I took my mom here for breakfast and we were not let down. She had the corned beef hash, which she said was awesome. I had the loco moco with fried rice and was IN HEAVEN. The people there are always super friendly and the service is quick. We went when it was completely packed and although we had to wait for a table, once we had one the food came quickly. Great little place. It's a busy little place but def worth the wait. It wasn't a long wait thou. Food was delicious. I love rice and to have it for breakfast with my eggs and corned beef hash is awesome. My husband had the Kalua omelette and it was good as well. The sauce on it was spicy but good and it went perfect with my rice. Pancakes was light and fluffy. Def recommend this place. read more

I honestly love this place. I have been coming here for over 8 years and have been to more than 5 of their locations. A super-fan would be a light way to put it. From the omelettes to the smoothies, this place slaps. You have to ask for the coconut syrup because it makes pancakes taste that much better. Great job to the whole Stacks team. Love the outdoor patio- a great place for breakfast/brunch on PCH. We have only been for breakfast, expecially like the Macadamia Nut Waffle & build-your-own omlette. Close to the harbor, which is beautiful for a walk by the ocean after breakfast- out of town guests would love this experience. This place is popular and can be crowded- be patient and enjoy. read more

Stacks is small and the line can be long on weekends, but it is worth the wait. The line moves quickly and there is indoor seating, as well as a patio. You order at the counter and servers deliver your food promptly. All menu items are reasonably priced so it won't put much of a dent in your pocketbook!! read more
