Hotel was not as nice as advertised and I realized I left my favorite pants in the hotel room after we left. Called them to notify them and of course they cannot find them anywhere as well as our bottle of alcohol we left in the fridge. If they happen to find my pants, I'll update this review, but to say they aren't there when I know exactly where I had them (my bad for forgetting as we were rushing to leave) is poor customer service. The beds were among the worst I've slept in. I could feel the metal springs and the unevenness and did not sleep well at all. Price is decent for the hotels around the area, but purchasing a pillow top might be worth an investment. read more

I found this hotel on TripAdvisor by cross referencing best price with highest guest reviews. This was a great deal. The rooms were clean, well appointed, and larger than expected. I did a fair amount of online research before settling on this place. My boyfriend and I suddenly found ourselves with a few days that we could share together (a rarity), but without any chance for advance planning or saving. Since neither of us have ever been to the Aquarium we both readily decided that Monterey would be our destination. I'd read a number of favorable reviews for this place, and then a few 'not-so-good' ones too. For the price, and the free online coupon upgrade I felt like it was worth taking a chance. For the $66 we paid, I'd say we got a fair price. The room was comfortable & spacious, tastefully decorated (though a little bland/beige for my tastes), quiet, and the King size bed was comfortable. There was a nice little refridgerator, microwave, and coffee pot with a package of coffee for the next morning. The heating unit was quiet and easy to operate, so I felt very comfortable in my 'Home Away from Home' room. Perhaps the most impressive feature to this room was the stunningly beautiful bathroom... Strange observation I suppose, but I was very impressed by the granite and upscale fixtures... a very expensive bathroom at Motel 6 pricing. It's a Non-Smoking property with somewhat remote designated smoking areas away from the rooms. I happen to be a very considerate smoker, so I am respectful of the rules, but I can see myself coming back to Monterey and maybe finding a more Smoker friendly environment. Then again, maybe not. I liked this place... The bouganvilla was a very welcome sight and I liked that everything was spotless. read more

Great Inn, very impressed! Took a trip with Hubby starting in Napa Ca then to San Francisco, Monterey, Paso Robles. Best place we've stayed so far. This Inn was clean, updated and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom was all granite, very impressed. The grounds are well kept and you can tell that the owners take pride in their business. Our room had a coffee maker, microwave, fridge and a flat screen TV. Would defiantly stay here again! It's walking distance to fisherman's Warf. We stayed one night here in October 2020. 4 stars, good hotel to use as a place to rest and enjoy Monterey. It's well kept and clean and located in a safe area. We would consider staying here again. It's not a fancy hotel where you want to spend time at your hotel but it does the job and gives you a place to sleep and a home base to enjoy the beach. Here are my positives and negatives. Good things: *Good location. Near the marina, and Fishermans wharf. We drove to these places but my guess would be a 15/20 min walk through a beautiful park. *Aesthetically the hotel is very small but well kept and nice and clean looking. *The room was clean and looked recently redone. *Parking was free and we never had an issue finding a parking spot even when getting back to the hotel late. *Rooms had a refrigerator and coffee maker. *Beds were comfortable. Negatives: *Our room was on the bottom of the two stories and we could hear every move from the room above us. * Very basic small rooms. Overall it was a great affordable place to stay. I had stayed at the Stage Coach Lodge, and enjoyed it. It is a great place, rooms are very clean, and liked the decor. Nice quiet place.

Had an issue with my room after booking on the phone with hotel staff. One of the staff members on site told me there was nothing he could do to solve my problem because once I arrived on the property I didn't want to downsize my room from a queen to a double. I had someone in a wheelchair with me who we then had to carry up and down a flight of steps. Unbelievable how I was blamed ultimately for this mistake. Also was able to hear children running around and screaming first thing in the morning. Would suggest staying elsewhere. read more

I booked two rooms at $94 and $84 per night for 2 nights. Then, I had to cancel the $84 room. I found out after I cancelled that they raised the price for my $94 room to $144. That's over 50% higher! There was no warning on the website that if I cancelled one room, the price for the other would skyrocket. When I called to fix this, the manager was not helpful at all. Booked two nights during the 2019 US Open for $420 through Hotels.com. Months later, they cancelled my reservation without my consent because they made the mistake of not charging me enough. They emailed me (no call) and told me I could rebook if I wanted to switch my reservation to seven days and pay around $4000 for the stay. So now I am out of reasonable options in Monterey when I could have originally booked at other comparable hotels. Poor business planning led them to not know about a major event in their backyard that had been planned for years and greed led them to cancel my reservation. The US Open returns to Pebble Beach in 2027. I thought I'd let them know so they don't ruin trips that we're planned months in advance because of sheer incompetence. I was very disappointed because first I got bit by bed bugs. I was itching at night the first night but did not know why. The second night was worse. I asked my daughter to look and she took photos. When I woke up I went to front desk and showed Ron. I also took pictures. He said to email him pictures and he would take care of it. Also, the first morning we were using blow dryer in bathroom and turned on microwave. It had a loud sound and then we lost power in the room. Ron came to the room and turned on power. We then used blow dryer and lights flickered. This made us nervous. Since then I emailed the property twice and no response so I contacted booking.com they said they would contact the hotel. The hotel has denied reimbursement, they said they could not find anything. That is exactly what I knew they would say. You can tell they would not reimburse or cover things up. I have scars from the bed bugs. I spent close to $550.00 So it is your choice to stay at this hotel. I thought they would be helpful but they were not. I paid a lot of money to be extremely uncomfortable. I posted 7 pictures. I am extremely disappointed because I was hoping they would be helpful. read more

This was our first time staying at this hotel and it was worth it. The location seems a little distant but it really isn't. Everything is close by and the lodge is really nice inside and out, nestled in between the hills with a nice view. The staff was very friendly and helpful; and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The location is nice and quite while still being family friendly with a really nice park that's walking distance in a great little neighborhood. We would stop in for breakfast every morning and get greeted with a good morning and recommendations on where to go or what to do with the kids. Overall, we had a very nice stay and will definitely be returning here in the future. read more

This hotel is priced great for Monterey. Compared to the other hotels this is the best deal in town. The exterior is a bit outdated but they've definitely done updates on the interior. My only complaint which is a pretty big one in my opinion are the beds. They're so uncomfortable. The mattress felt uneven. I could hear the metal springs with every movement. The pillows were even uncomfortable!!! Therefore I didn't sleep at all! Which makes me a very grouchy person. I've stayed at Super 8's before and they even have nice beds! .... this was disappointing. One positive is it's close to town. Although an Uber to go a mile and a half is 8 bucks there. It is Monterey though... We had a great trip in Monterey overall. They just need new beds. Asap! read more

We stayed here August 16-18. One of reasons we chose to stay here was based on positive Yelp reviews regarding the clean rooms. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of our room and the appearance of being freshly updated. Nice paint, nice bathroom floors, and shower. Nice carpet and furniture. Even though it is located near the freeway, the area was very quiet. We enjoyed a nice 20 minute walk to the wharf and downtown area. Perfect for us, since we are avid walkers. The staff was very helpful with suggestions on where to go and eat. We are definitely planning on staying here again. read more

What a terrible business!! We believe there was an error with booking the hotel via their website - an issue where we put in one date for this upcoming weekend and for whatever reason, a same night stay was booked. The confirmation email didn't go to the email associated with the booking and there was no call to see why we hadn't checked in. We woke up to an email this morning saying that we were charged a "no show fee" of $80. Upon trying to call, their terrible manager was rude and unhelpful. He was short, dismissive and refused to do anything for us. He would barely even answer our questions! I asked to speak with the owners and he said they don't deal with this. Maybe if they see another bad review, they'll rethink their managerial staff and their involvement in their business. I would never want to stay at a place where the managing staff is so rude to potential customers over the phone. I can't imagine how they treat their guests who actually stay there. read more

DO NOT!!!!!!! i booked my room here a couple days prior to me coming. i took a couple days off work and drove 3 hours to visit my moms grave. i haven't seen my moms grave in quite awhile and i'll admit i was crying almost the whole way there. once i got to the hotel i was exhausted and kept trying to contact my sister. i waited by the window to get checked in for awhile and nobody came. so i walked away trying to contact my sister again, then i would walk back and wait. nobody would come. so this repeated for almost a hour until i finally called the owners and told them i have been waiting for almost a hour, the guy came out and called me a LIAR and told me he wasn't GOING TO CHECK ME IN!!! i was totally blown away and i was just over everything, so i walked away balling my eyes out and sat in my car crying. he then came to my car and said i looked "disturbed" and he wouldn't check me in so i needed to leave. mind you, i drove 3 hours here and just wanted to see my moms grave. i argued with him saying i needed my refund and he refused and said he would call the cops and charge my card if i didn't leave!!!! i was so blown away i didn't even want to stay there anymore. Management sucks plain and simple. Stayed here for two nights with my family and we regret it!!! The receptionist was very rude to us. She asked us if we were in the room with a lot of trash because that's what her housekeeper told her. It's not right to ask that to anybody who stays at the hotel. That's just rude! That was not our room that she was referring too so it wasn't right for her to assume. When we told her our room number she said Oh nevermind. She didn't say sorry or anything for calling us out like that. I was also trying to ask her about sight seeing places in Monterey Bay and she just told me to sit back over in the breakfast area because I was taking up space... At the front desk... I had an excellent time here! My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for $120, King Bed 2 nights & three days. I think it was a pretty great deal considering the very friendly hotel staff upgraded us to a more spacious and recently remodeled room for free! Now, we went from a King bed to a room with 2 queens, but it was very spacious and clean- the maid service was excellent. There is a small pool at the front of the drive, good for late afternoon dips and wading with your little one. It was very clean and in a good area, i didn't feel threatened at all. The hotel is non smoking, but there is a little patio area by the back of the lot that is fenced off, there are ashtrays and you can smoke there but not in/out front of your room. The contintental breakfast was muffins, cinnamon rolls, svhenards pastries and coffee & OJ, you take it from the lobby back to your room. The bathrooms were clean & everyone was very nice! They have cable & WIFI just ask for the password. It is about a 5 minute drive from Del Monte Shopping Center and Cannery row, fishermans wharf & the aquarium. I wouldn't suggest walking to the touristy area but it's excellent if you brought a car! I had an excellent stay here & would definitely return. I reccommend it if you're looking for a good deal and something near the shopping district but away from the hustle and bustle :] read more

While there was nothing remarkable about this motel, I'd stay there again just for the quiet affordability and friendly staff. The motel was not far from the main attractions in town, very clean, and all the staff we encountered (cleaning, front desk) were incredibly warm & friendly. I had wished that the ceiling/upstairs floor had muffled sounds more and that the bed had been softer, but overall it was a quiet pleasant stay for our weekend away. My wish list for this motel would only really be a softer bed, better bedding (tired, hard comforters & flat pillows), and more television stations. Well, a heated pool would be nice too, but the others are things they can actually do relatively cheaply and quickly. I appreciated the fair price of the sodas and water in the vending machine and loved the little quiet patio back there to read on. We never had a single problem with the connection or speed of the free wi-fi, which we definitely appreciated. Overall I'd stay there again as the value was incredibly good considering the rates I saw online for other places farther away from the attractions we were interested in. read more

This place is great--not luxurious, but clean, quiet, and inexpensive--exactly what we wanted for this stay. We originally only booked for the first two days of our 6-day vacation, and thought we'd go to a more upscale place (think fireplace) for the next days in Carmel or Big Sur, but after one night we decided to stay here the whole time and take day trips to Pacific Grove, Carmel, and Big Sur. We reserved a queen bedroom with shower/tub, microwave, and refrigerator and they upgraded us to a king bed. Bed's comfortable and the heater, while somewhat noisy, is working fine--very important because we've been in a crazy cold snap (for NorCal)--down to the 40s I think. The bathroom is clean, (marble or granite--I get them mixed up,) and the water pressure is sinfully strong (for the state of our state, which is in a drought). Tub is not as small as some hotels I've stayed in (adequate room for leg-shaving if not a tryst with a friend!). I haven't tried the microwave, but no complaints about the 'frig, which is keeping our stash of microbrew ales cold. The pictures that Victoria C. put up from her stay here are totally accurate for our experience, the only difference being that we have one king bed rather than two beds. The innkeepers are very kind and personable. They went out of their way to get us "two-days-for-the-price-of-one" Monterey Aquarium passes, recommended their favorite place for vegetarian food (Ambrosia Cafe--delicious!), and could not have been more responsive or kind. Good people. (The housekeeper is also a total sweetie. She offered to get me some coffee when we came back to the room while she was cleaning it, and was totally cheery and understanding of my gringa Spanish.) Monterey is a small town and Pacific Grove and Carmel are super close, so we had no trouble navigating around Monterey and surrounding towns from this hotel. I would much rather be 5 minutes drive off the main streets than pay 2-3x what we paid for our room. Note: We're here during the "off season" (Dec 6-11) and because I did a lot of checking on various sites (Trip Advisor, Orbitz, etc.,) I was able to get the room for $55/night--not a rate that I think would be available at a more popular time of the year. PS: While they do have "a pool," it's the littlest pool I have ever seen, so if you're actually looking to swim laps while you're in Monterey, you might need to find a different spot to stay. ;-) PPS: This is a "no-pets" hotel. Ok, the term "You get what you paid for" is really applicable to this hotel. It is one of the most affordable options and you're bound to find some sort of discount (thanks, AAA!). We've stayed at a handful of B&B's in the past, but this time just wanted something simple. That being said, the overall experience was okay but nothing great. By luck of the draw, we ended up with a handicapped room, which actually worked out for us since we had brought our bikes with us and appreciated the extra space. The room smelled... I don't even know how to describe it... maybe it was the combination of cleaner solution and a really hot & humid day, but the room did NOT have a pleasant smell. It did kind of grow on us, I guess. The room included cable TV with HBO, hairdryer, in-room safe, microwave, refrigerator, iron, ironing board, coffeemaker, and wireless internet. Coffee, OJ and pastries are offered in the morning (though by 10am, you might be SOL). Front desk closes at 9pm and opens at 8am. There's an ice machine, one vending machine, and a mini-laundromat on the property. Swimming pool is super tiny, more suited for dipping your feet into. The location isn't super close to some of the main attractions, but if you have a car it's really not that bad a drive. [Parking near the aquarium is reasonable. And you can score some street parking as well.] For a place to rest your head at night and rejuvenate, this place will do the trick. Beyond that, I'd search elsewhere. read more

All other bad reviews made me think that people expect this little hotel to be like a 5 star hotel let me remind you it's a 3 star. I've never stayed at a place like this before but I would if I ever get the change, it's very clean and I now it's a little cramped on a 2 queen room but it's comfortable. They did a remodeled which was done nicely and I really think it's worth the money I paid for. Only thing I didn't like was that they only have 1 washer and 1 dryer for the whole hotel. Pool looked clean and the lady in the front was awesome. Breakfast is the basic, toast, cereal, and such but it's enough to get you to brunch. read more

2.5 stars. J and I booked this hotel somewhat last minute (as a result of not knowing whether or not we'd actually be in Monterey that particular weekend). I had done a little bit of research for a hotel that would not only be clean and close to all the action, but also easy on the wallet. The property is on the smaller side, and the front office is positively dinky. The owners were not very friendly (borderline brusque) and didn't seem very forthcoming about extra charges and whatnot (I had to remind J to ask about all these different things to make sure we knew EXACTLY what the policies were). The room itself was fine. For roughly $95/night (including taxes+fees) we got two full beds, a nonfunctional refrigerator + microwave, sparse furniture, and a very new bathroom (apparently they recently remodeled). Totally acceptable as a place to sleep in between our planned daily activities but not really worth the price. IRKSOME: - Despite advertising free wifi, we could not access the internet from our room. - PL & TC came over to hang out-- since the owner lady seemed like the strict type I told them they should ask if they could park their car in the lot (there is a sign that says all unauthorized vehicles would be towed... and owner lady definitely seemed like the type to patrol the lot herself). This was allowed; however she told them they could only stay until 10:30pm because of the hotel's noise policy... ok... - Very strict checkout time policy. If you aren't out by 11am you are charged for a FULL extra day. Sheesh! - During checkout the owner lady suspiciously asked J how many beds we used, because the cleaning lady saw two used beds and she wanted to make sure our friends hadn't stayed over (extra guests in the room incur extra charges). Why would we lie to you?! OVERALL: I'd stay here again if it was the cheapest option in town, but I wouldn't recommend it to friends. read more

Stayed here to attend the Good Old Days Music Festival in April. I had purchased a Living Social for a reasonable price. When booking the reservation I was told I could not get the Deluxe Room for those were all taken so I would end up with a standard. Although surprised given how much advance notice I was just mildly disappointed. Once I arrived, the male at the front desk treated me poorly. I was reprimanded for not having my Living Social deal printed out for I only had it on my phone, which has never been a problem for me before. I then was told I would not be receiving cleaning service for my second day there for there wasn't enough staff! I did not feel welcomed in the slightest. Once I carried my luggage over to my room across the parking lot I opened the door to find a decent room. Basic fridge, microwave, small flat screen TV and standard bed/table and 2 chairs. I will say the room was somewhat spacious and it stayed relatively quiet at night. In the morning however I come to find out we are the room right next door to where the maids get all of their cleaning supplies in addition to do laundry. Not only could I hear them being very loud, but knowing that they weren't going to be cleaning our room made it even worse. The breakfast room is extremely small as its actually the lobby to the hotel where we were forced to battle with people to move around and get food. The pastries were only OK and the coffee tasted watered down. Lastly, once checking out I asked if I could stay an additional hour and was told only 20 minutes for the maids had to clean!! Now that we were leaving the maid service finally mattered instead of accompanying your current guests. Overall, although the room was decent I will not be returning to this place again! read more
