We were not greeted at the door nor did anyone come to ask us have we been to this place before to let us know how their food ordering process goes. So while we are waiting a caucasian woman and her son comes in and they immediately aid to their service without even asking the people next in lieu of (US) if we needed anything. We found this place on our trip to Memphis in 2021. We stopped here before we visited the Staxs Museum. We were a little skeptical because it looked very fancy. We were wrong, this place was great!!! Our nieces had the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes and the Chicken & Pancakes. My wife and I split a brisket omelet and pancakes. The pancakes were big and good. The Cinnamon Roll pancake did not need syrup. I wanted to like this place sooooooo badly, but no. The menu looks great, but the execution of some of the dishes fell short. The orange juice is amazing. The salmon omelet was very good, according to my mom. But the shrimp and grits and the bayou bowl were very basic in flavor. The presentation of both dishes were lovely, but not the plating. There was splattered food on the plate holding the bowl... I added an order of French toast after sending my bayou bowl back (I didn't request a refund) and the brioche was as thick and rich as you'd expect. The flavor, though, fell flat. I was hoping for better, but no. My brother ordered the banana pudding French toast (special for the month) and again...no good. I stopped by this location and the service was great. I love how it looks on the outside and inside of the building but my pancakes were okay at best. I ordered the 4 stack chocolate chip pancakes and most of the pancakes were dry, burnt, and not tasty. All of my chocolate chips were in the middle of the stacks, all down the middle, and nothing on the outer edge. They also tried to give me two different sets of pancakes that were not on my order before finally getting my correct order. 5 stars for food quality but 1 star for customer service. They refused to take a to-go over the phone if you are going to pay with cash. My order was for ONE item and the total was $13 after tax. Since they wouldn't take my order over the phone, I had to literally place my order at the restaurant...mind you, this was on a Saturday morning when they were extremely busy. This is such a cool little breakfast restaurant! My family & I have eaten here several times, and it's always good. From cinnamon roll pancakes to omelettes to biscuits & gravy, it's all been delicious! My only complaint is their process for taking orders. They typically have 2 people taking orders, and as you'd expect on a Sunday morning, there's a line out the door. Multiple times I saw the cashiers leaving their register to go take drinks to a table, get silverware, etc. There would be a 3 to 4 minute lag each time, as the line of customers continued to grow. It was so frustrating! The rest of the team seemed to have their system down. The girl assigning tables at the door, as well as the people delivering food from the kitchen to the tables, were all "spot on" doing their job fast & efficiently. Overall, a cool place for breakfast, but if you're not in the mood for a wait, this might not be your spot. Found this place on Yelp! We started with two amazing coffees, the French vanilla latte and honey vanilla latte with almond milk. To eat we ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and the chicken biscuit with sriracha honey and scrambled eggs. We also ordered the pancake beignets, however we didn't get them until we were already done eating our entrees and the oil tasted old. Very very very good food. Honestly the food is great. There are 3 main issues I have with this place. The first one is that although 90% of the food is great, the pancakes are mediocre....which is a problem because of its name... The second issue I had with the place is that the wait for the food is unnaturally long. It doesn't matter if they are slow or busy or if the line is out the door or nonexistent...the wait for the food is long. The drinks come quick and they are good (and strong) so you try to convince yourself that it's worth the money. Third thing is the prices. This place is ridiculously expensive. So about ten minutes go by and they come to our table with our food. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. The host was quite dry and rude when me and my family walked in. No introduction, no welcome, she just asked how many of us there were and told us a table number. Once we figured out where to go we sat down and did our order on the phone. We had high hopes for this place after reading reviews and were pretty disappointed upon arrival. For starts it was a Wednesday morning and the place had about half a dozen tables occupied when we arrived, and the place was pretty dirty. The restaurant itself was super cute upon first glance.. but once we sat down we realized how dirty the floors were and our table had a weird tacky feel to the top.. We ordered a burrito bowl, cinnamon roll pancakes, an adult hot chocolate, and a brunch margarita with orange juice -the burrito bowl came out within 5 mins of ordering it.. before we got drinks or our pancakes- which was kind of strange that it wasn't planned a bit better so our food came out together vs sitting there waiting for the other half. The bowl itself was not great... the onions and peppers tasted like they hadn't been cooked at all- and the eggs (supposed to be scrambled) seemed like they were cooked on a grill that was too hot.. so my bowl had big chunks of overcooked egg. The sausage was hard and either had been sitting for a while or was over cooked.. the entire thing was covered in cheese (which made it partially edible) and some watery fresh pico/salsa mix- which made the entire thing very runny and weird... I think that should be served on the side. The cinnamon roll pancakes were delicious and HUGE which worked out since the bowl I ordered wasn't worth finishing.. our drinks were really good, but the lady behind the bar had a really crummy attitude and we heard her cussing about call in orders or something else going on while we were there, which we thought was pretty unprofessional.. overall I wouldn't have gone out of our way to eat here- but if you are in the neighborhood it would be worth dropping in for some cinnamon roll pancakes! read more

I understand that gluten free options can never compare to actual pancakes, but for these prices you would expect something at least halfway decent. With the name "Staks," you can be sure the house specialty is anything and everything related to pancakes! It's normally a counter service restaurant but during busy times, you have to wait for an open table before ordering at the counter). If you're a fan of sweet, flavored coffees, then get the toasted s'mores coffee- it had me wishing I was sitting by the campfire. Who knew s'mores could be captured ever so perfectly in the form of coffee?! I opted for a short stak with blueberries with a side of Porcellino's scrumptious bacon. I am a big fan of sweet and savory combinations that put sheer excitement in my tastebuds! The pancakes were the right amount of thickness (not too thick nor thin) and fluffy goodness. You can even request to cook your own pancake at your table, which was an interesting concept. The smoked salmon omelette was surprisingly good- smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and topped with a balsamic drizzle wrapped in 3 fluffy eggs. Again, it's that sweet and savory combo that pulls my heart strings. The side of creamy, buttery Gouda grits sent me to breakfast heaven. Next time, I can create my own omelette with whatever ingredients my tummy desires. Staks is so flippin and effin good in terms of food and service. A really good brunch place in Memphis!! My girlfriend and I came here on a Sunday for brunch and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The wait could've been really long (30+ minutes) but luckily we got on the waitlist through the Yelp app so we only waited around 10 minutes!! The way they handle the wait for customers is kinda weird. First, you check in through through a lady at the front of the restaurant where you'll wait until they're ready for you to get into another line to order food. And then once you've orders your food, they'll bring it to your table. I just thought it was weird how they wanted you to check in first in order to actually get in the line to order your food. But I don't see this being a problem on days where they aren't that busy. The food and drinks were really good tho! With that said, the service was great! Staff is very helpful and attentive but unfortunately the food was a fail on this trip. The pancakes were not done or that mushy middle which I hate. I asked for soft scrambled eggs and got a lump of eggs with some brown edges and I hate brown eggs. The biscuit was too thick and not hot. This place is extremely loud and uncomfortable. There needs to be restructuring of how patrons are received. People dining in should be immediately seated, however they're not. They wait in the same long line as everyone else with to-go orders which is not conducive to creating a smooth flow of good business.
