I visited on a Saturday. Place was not as busy as I expected to be but there was a minor wait. I sat at the community table as I was dining alone. At the table, there is a grill in case you want to make your own pancakes. This table allowed me to meet other people and have a lively discussion. They have a no tip policy which I found interesting. I ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes and they were wonderful. No syrup was needed. Absolutely love them and cannot wait to go back and try some more. The person sitting next me had the plain short stack and raved about them as well. The concept is sensible - walk through the door, receive a cheery greeting and a menu, and place your order at the counter. Then, sit down and your food is delivered shortly thereafter, hot and ready to consume. I did discover two awkward issues with this, however. The first lies with the unlimited coffee refills. It's a little confusing as to whether you should grab a passing server after the last sip is gone, or take your mug to the counter, interrupting the flow of newcomers who are ordering. The second issue, is the novel "no tipping" policy (servers get paid higher than average, so no tips are allowed). Although this is mentioned on the printed menu, no one verbally gives this information, and a tip line is still provided on the receipt. As a reflex I wrote an amount on the tip line, which was then charged to my credit card, defeating the point of no tipping policy. Food-wise, my eggs were perfectly cooked, the biscuits were nice and flaky, and the gouda grits were marvelous - salty, savory, and satisfying. The other members of my breakfasting party also enjoyed their food, however the flow from ordering to eating to leaving could use a bit of finesse. read more

The food could have been a little better. My biggest problem was the manager. She was yelling at the sweet young lady at the front counter that was taking orders from the back of the restaurant. This is one of the cutest brunch spots in Memphis. The decor reminds me of a boutique mixed with Breakfast at Tiffany's. Their pancakes a light thin with a hint of butter flavor. If you like big and fluffy pancakes, this might not be your place. You can add topping/flavor in your pancake batter i.e. Chocolate chips, cinnamon... They also have mimosas and bloody Mary's. It gets crowded so be prepared to wait. You'll check in with the hostess and when your table is ready, then you order and have a seat. If you want to cook your own pancakes be sure to let the hostess know so they seat you at one of the tables with a griddle. read more

Don't trust the waitlist times at this location. It's a small seating area. The waitlist quoted us having a table with over an hour discrepancy. I finally moved two outdoor tables together myself. There aren't any designated servers, once you get a table, you go stand in line to order your food. We waited another hour to get our food from that point. The food was fine. Nothing crazy spectacular to make waiting 2 hours worth it. read more

My hubs had the Memphis bbq omelet with a side of 2 stacks of pancakes, my mom had the two eggs scrambled with sausage and 2 stacks of pancakes and yours truly had the shrimp and grits with a scrambled egg on the side. My wife and I, just married and on our honeymoon, drove across Memphis to get to this location because the pictures online of the food and drinks looked amazing. We arrived and had only a short time to wait before getting seated. We sat outside on a beautiful day, we ordered and promptly received our food. I ordered the Key Lime Pie cocktail, and as a born and raised Floridian I was pleasantly surprised as most "key lime pie" flavors from most places outside of southern Florida just don't taste right, my wife ordered the Vodka Sunrise and said it was delicious. Overall, my dining experience was terrible, and I won't be back. I ordered the specialty lemon ricotta pancakes and they were doughy and gross. I ate one bite and pushed it to the side. The casual server simply asked if I was "all done?" ...and took the plate. Some other server was listening to music loudly on their phone while we were there. My husband didn't mind his short stack with strawberries and blueberries, but he did mention that they served some very cheap low quality syrup with it. One positive the bacon was crispy. read more

First discovered the Staks location in Germantown. My wife and I decided to try the original. Arrived on a cloudy, rainy Sunday just before noon, expecting a wait. After a 22 minute wait, I was texted it was our turn. We ordered the French toast with a side order of oatmeal and brown sugar and a short stack of pancakes with a side of bacon. We also ordered one Morning Blend coffee and one Dark Roast. As with the Staks in Germantown, the staff was polite, engaging, friendly, and unobtrusively available. The coffee was delicious, a local roast. Our order arrived promptly, hot and fresh off the griddle. As expected, the pancakes and bacon were perfect; real maple syrup and real butter soaking into pancakes is a marriage made in heaven. The French Toast was just right, not overcooked nor undercooked. There was cinnamon in the batter, but not too much. Again, the marriage of butter and syrup soaking into powdered sugar covered French Toast was delightful. The small side of oatmeal was creamy and tasty with the added brown sugar. All in all, a wonderful, delicious adventure into a Sunday carbohydrate extravaganza!! read more

My son's food came out first then 15 minutes later MY pancakes came out with HIS bacon. Waited 15 more minutes for my bacon to come out. That is AFTER I inquired about it with a server. Got a coffee no spoon. Pancakes big but however no real flavor. I was hoping bacon would bring out taste. Saw other tables receiving bacon that ordered way after me. The staff is great! Everyone is accommodating and wants to to have a great experience. They are consistent and offer the variety you need for varying appetites and palettes. You can go from hearty to lean in two seconds flat. For about two years my husband and son used to come here once a week at 6 am.
