04/24/24 - Stanley's Grill @ 1543 N Elston Ave is located near North Ave & just across from where Stanley's Fresh Fruits & Vegetables use to be. Stanley's Grill has a nice selection of options. The food options are bit overwhelming, but in the end I opted for something simple like a gyro w/everything. It's hard to go wrong w/a gyro unless your vegan lol The gyro was good but nothing earth shattering. My friend ordered the fish sandwich My buddy suggested Stanley's, to be honest I never even noticed Stanley's. I found out it's the same owner of Stanley's Fresh Fruits & Vegetables (SFFG) which is now gone. There is an empty site where SFFG used to be but from the looks of things not for long. Just saw all the reviews that suppress a five star rating for this place and many of them are 10 to 14 years old so what's up with that? I work nearby and have surveyed many restaurants to get who's got the best chicken Caesar who's got the best chicken sandwich who's got the best Philly and so on. I'm not saying every item is my favorite, but the value is ridiculous cause I can't even finish their chicken sandwich. I have seen and heard people over overwhelmed by what the dinner plates entail because of the amount of food that they got and it's not just the quantity. It's also the quality. Stanley's on Elston and North Ave is such a gem. The chicken Caesar salad was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. The customer service is always top notch with a friendly greeting and a genuine smile every time you walk in. It is one of those spots where you instantly feel welcome. Tried this place this weekend and it was very delicious. Sometimes you just want a delicious, throwback burger that is charbroiled and juicy. Come here. Is it the cheapest place? No, is it incredibly expensive, no. Though nestled in the industrial corridor of Elston Ave.; it is in between Lincoln Park and WIcker Park/ Bucktown, add city taxes, and you've got these prices. It's a 'greasy spoon' type of diner, lots of fast food options. We tried the burgers, fries, and the gyros. All were very good; the burger and gyros were nice and juicy, the fries were good (though I am sure if they were frozen of freshly made). They advertise their charbroiled chicken which I am interested in trying next. The place seemed very clean and super organized. The accouterments behind the counter were so organized it made my OCD heart smile. read more

The best place for lunch within walking distance while at work. I recently tried their Tomato cream sauce pasta with garlic bread and I ordered for the next few days afterwards because it was so delicious. I added mushroom and broccoli when its available. However EVERYTHING on their menu is always fresh and good. For breakfast I love love the egg and cheese on croissant. What a great place for lunch in that part of Chicago! All five in our party were impressed with the quality of the delicious foods served, quantity in the generous portions, variety of foods offered, the friendly servers and the cleanliness of the restaurant and wash room. Stanley, I love the produce market. But, the cafe? Lacking a bit. Lots of greasy stuff...I thought you were concerned with our health? You serve such nice lucious things at the store across the street... The food is so/so. Good enough for the lunch crowd, I suppose. But, I like hearty breads, I think you should offer something besides white. Oh, and processed deli meat for the sandwiches...ick. And for the love of God Stan, serve up some Diet Coke. Pepsi sucks. This also ran by the same family as the produce store across the street. Been here 3 times...twice for breakfast and today for lunch. The young ladies that work here are always smiling and cordial. It's usually slow and mellow during breakfast time but t was surely popping during lunch time. Breakfast is not the best I've had but can't be beat for the quality and quantity you receive with such a great price! Denver omelette w/potatoes and toast for $5.65...Wow! Service is quick as well...even when busy. For lunch, I just had two things I was craving for...Gyro Meat and French fries together...Grub...Grub! I also like their nice seating arrangement for a medium sized restaurant along with two flat screen tv's! Good place for some grub for breakfast and lunch...NOT open for dinner! read more

Just paid $6.50 for a hotdog and fries. So i either got ripped off or they charged me for 2. Which is what i asked for. Either way Home Depot across the street is fresher and cheaper. Food was ok and I actually like the naturally grungy but not too grungy atmosphere. Gyro on the spigot is always key. Regardless they screwed the order up so I wont go back. I've had lunch here at least once a week for two years, which tells you two things about me: 1. I am pretty lazy. 2. Stanley's has enough variety in their menu that I've yet to get bored. Hot Dogs? Half a chicken? Gyros? Steamed veggies or rice instead of fries with your cajun chicken sandwich? All that and a full breakfast menu. I work in the area and Stanley's is the perfect lunch place to run to for a fast meal. They have an extensive menu that's priced a little on the high-side. They say they are famous for their chicken- 100% the truth. I usually go with the tenders, but all their chicken is super tender inside with that nice crisp skin on the outside. Their salads are overpriced but it hasn't stopped me from ordering them. I always get their Cesar salad with chicken. It comes with garlic bread that is seriously addicting. It is the main reason i keep going back. Other favorites- Cajun chicken sandwich-not over spicy and super tender. Gyro Sandwich (huge amount of meat that is much cheaper than the gyro plate). Cheeseburger-thin burgers, but super juicy. And Every single breakfast sandwich. I always go at lunch time so it is busy, but the longest I've waited for a to-go order was about 10 min. When ordering the salads it's about 3 minutes. Everything is made to order so I have never thought I was waiting too long. The daily people in Stanley's are locals who work in the area. It's nice to see a place that has regulars, but if you're in the area it's a great diner to check out! read more

I liked ordering here because it is close to my work and yes their fast and if you are hungry it's good enough but giving customers frozen salad dressing? Really???? What makes you think I can use a dressing that is frozen? Any person knows that! They make their own Italian dressing (I'm guessing) and it's in plastic containers so I guess when they put it in the refrigerator it freezes (shows how much fat is on it). If you know you use this dressing a lot, why not thaw them first when you give it to me so it's usable? How about that? I told the cashier and I ask for another one but she gave me another frozen one. I said, "do you have one that' s not frozen?", she said "yes", and handed me a frozen one. Happened in 3 occasions, I kept trying to give them a chance. It's not a language barrier either because they speak/understand well. Their other food is plain, nothing special but even if it was good, I wouldn't come back due to lack of common sense and customer service. read more

Grilled chicen salad is HUGE and fresh and the chicken is great! No weird grey or "funky pieces" that look lille fake meat here! It's great! The staff are super friendly and they offer free wifi! Let's point out that we're not comparing Stanley's to Four Seasons. I have to rate a place relative to what it's supposed to be. For this reason I really wish there was a 3.5 rating. When it comes down to it though 4 stars is 'I'm a fan' according to yelp, so 4 it is. Here is the thing, its not fancy, the décor is mildly cheesy, but..and a big but...their food is good, wicked cheap, and the folks are friendly. They are as good at cranking out quick cheap food for you as I am at writing run on sentences. If my girlfriend reads this review she'll be cringing at my grammar. Seriously though, you can call an order in and 10 minutes later you're packed up and ready to go. An egg and cheese sandwich is like 3 bucks! One reviewer made the good point that it isn't a place for a date. I'd agree unless your both hung over and already intimate; then....it's perfect;) All in all I like this place. Stanley's is one of the few places to dine within the industrial sector between North/Clybourn shopping and the Wicker Park hip. It's either Stanley's (or their fruit/produce market), Burger King, or Mr. Pollo. I figured Stanley's would be the best option with a group of 15 who all had different tastes and were on a schedule. They are quick so I give 'em that. As for the food itself, everyone's food was just average in taste...even the burgers and chicken which they're known for. I thought the 1/4 chicken meal with blah vegetables, rice and a pita was worth the $6. The chicken was a bit bland and dry but I dealt with it by filling myself up with the accompanied carbs.
