They still have the best wings in Delaware! The Tavern burger was delicious and the fries were perfection. Great taco with lots of tasty filling. Haven't been there in a while, but I will be going back more often. Very good service too! read more

One of our favorite local spots. Close to our house and one of the first places we tried when we moved to the area. Good food, and friendly service. Nice place to go for watching football games, or meeting up with friends. My favorites are the not on Sunday chicken sandwich and the tavern burger. read more

And while the food, drinks and service were all fine, I realized that most of the people in there were anti-vaxxers who didn't believe in covid. I understand there may he an outdoor option but I enjoy watching whatever sports are on tv indoors. I ordered delivery from this place today and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the crab deviled eggs, chili, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Although that sounds simple enough, I have ordered way simpler from other places and received way worse. The crab deviled eggs had plenty of pieces of sweet lump crab, and the cheesesteak egg rolls came with a French onion dip that I would gladly pour on every dish from here on out. They also honored all of my "special instructions" which rarely happens and the food arrived piping hot. I will be stopping in to try the entrees soon! read more

Let's start by saying my food was tasty and I would definitely give this tavern another try. Their ribs really are delicious. Now, why three stars? Let's give COVID it's due, but I really don't think it was the problem. It was either the waitress or the kitchen. Probably the waitress. I didn't see her enough to form much of an opinion. She was very nice. When I finally ordered, it took quite awhile before the food arrived. Seafood chowder, half a rack of ribs, and fries. I started with the chowder. Tepid may be pushing it. Tasted good, but I was a little concerned about botulism, not something you want to think about when you're eating. Ribs and fries were also good, but basically warm. Even if it took her awhile to deliver my food, wasn't it under a heat lamp while it waited? Portions are not huge, but I'm content. As I said, I'd give it another shot, but this wasn't a home run. Speaking of which, no restaurant should ever have UFC on the tv where people are eating. Glancing at handsome young men beating the crap out of each other is not compatible with food. read more

I have eaten there with my husband a few times. He like the salad bar but I think it is very expensive and boring. I thought to try it again tonite. I was extremely disappointed. The food is so bland! I had a "chicken stack". There was the smallest chicken breast, a slice of tomato, some pesto and mozzarella with a piece of, I think pepper. Gluey mashed potatoes and broccoli. $3 margaritas with little or no alcohol. He had the salad bar and some wings. I really want to like the place but I turned in my Stanley's card. I met RJ here for March madness on St Patrick's Day. They could not get my drink right. Rum with pineapple and a splash a grenadine should not be a red drink. One of our friend's in our party got extra cans of pineapple for me to dilute the grenadine. I said splash the first time, the 2nd time I said look just a splash, not a glass full. Stanley's continues to do a great business under tough circumstances. We always eat outside and they now have an airy, plastic patio area to eat in. They zip the food out quickly so my hamburger and fries were fine and my husband's soup and fish and chips were spot on! Go Stanley's read more

Went to Stanley's again craving the brisket. Always good. Also had the wings which were well cooked and moist. (Hate it when the wings are dry and over cooked). Tried the French fries which were just ok. Agree with another reviewer that the broccoli was undercooked. read more

Me and a group of friends just went here for the first time wanting to eat dinner and watch the NFL playoffs. Our waiter was extremely rude to me at first when I asked if the nachos were gluten free and basically told me to figure it out myself. For context, I have celiac disease and cannot have gluten or let it cross-contaminate. Then, when I asked to order a regular hamburger with a gluten free bun and fries, which he said were gluten free and would let the kitchen know that I had an allergy. However, immediately after eating all of my food, I got sick and was intbe restroom for 15 minutes in a lot of pain. Not only this happened with him, but he got mad at us for asking to split the check and offering to pay with multipe cards as an alternative. Totally unprofessional and I would not recommend going here, especially if you're with a group of people and/or you have a type of allergy. read more

OK!!! We have been to Stanley's a few times now and I am completely devastated that I have been living in Wilmington again for 4 years now and am JUST NOW trying this place!!! BOY WHAT HAVE WE BEEN MISSING!!! Hubby's fave is the rack of ribs with Smokey bbq sauce (they are quite delicious) and oh so tender- but not so much that you can't enjoy them during a business lunch or office party!!! LOL!! We've tried the cheesesteak egg rolls (OMG ).... the crab deviled eggs (WHOA BUDDY) and the shrimp tacos (BEST IVE HAD FROM ANYWHERE- EVER)!! And today I finally bit the bullet and tried their Chicken Pot Pie!!! FIRST OF ALL-- you all should know I am a pot pie FANATIC so whenever the menu has pot pie I am skeptical because as of late I have been disappointed with these so called pot pies that people have been serving BUT THIS SUCKER RIGHT HERE IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT!!! Perfect crust, perfect filling, perfect gravy!!!! Man oh man!!!! TRY THR POT PIE if you love pot pie!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!! Wish I only came here to drink, left a bad taste in my mouth and doubt I'll ever return to do anything but. Came with a few friends, and sat in the bar at a table. Took a few minutes for our server to even aknowlege us. She was rude, and uninterested right away. Everything seemed very rushed. It wasn't late, and the bar wasn't full. (About 2 tables, and 6-7 people at the bar, with 3 bartenders), I even asked her at some point if she was leaving, or trying to get out of there, and she answered no. Anyway, we ordered wings as an appetizer which were probably the only positive thing I can write about in this review. Nice and hot, just how I like 'em. For dinner I ordered a burger with the "Knife & Fork Topping". Dry, Skimpy Toppings (about 2 tiny slivers of roasted red pepper) about a teaspoon of blue cheese..I mean for a $10 burger, I expected more. I'm kinda small, and even after eating this I was still hungry! Friend ordered Chicken Sandwich w/ Crab Imperial, He couldn't even finish it. Had to go up to the bar a few times to ask for things..Beer, Water..All while our server was behind the bar texting. I've been in the industry for 11 years, I know customer service..and I know how it can determine one's experience when dining and this is up there with some of the worst. Finally decided to try Stanley's after numerous drive-bys. We figured how bad could it be if the lot is always full? Pretty bad, it turns out. We weren't expecting much - just halfway decent bar food. How hard could that be? Stanley's claims to have the "Best Rack in Town" so I thought I would try their ribs. I got the half rack and BBQ chicken breast combo with a dry rub. The ribs were tiny, dry (yes, I know I got the dry rub but the meat should be moist), and the rub extremely salty. The chicken was a grilled dry boneless breast with no seasoning whatsoever. I had to ask for some BBQ sauce since they didn't include any on the side. Baby got the buffalo burger sans bun. It was supposed to be 6 ounces but it was hard to find under the portobello mushroom - they can't blame this on shrinkage since buffalo is extremely lean (and, yes, it was dry and overcooked). And the carmelized onions on top were actually burnt brown onions. The only reason I'm giving them one star is because of the $2 Leinenkugel special. (One very odd thing we noticed. We were seated near Stanley's very '70s style soup and salad bar and heard this strange rattle when they refilled one of the items. Turns out they were replenishing the Jelly Bellys!! They also had gummi bears and some other sweets but this was no dessert or ice cream bar. Bizarro!) read more

I had a Kobe burger and fried cheesecake delivered for dinner tonight. I mention the delivery because I know for some restaurants, their delivered food may or may not match the food in their restaurants. The Kobe burger was ok. I wanted to try Kobe beef since I had never tried it before. It was a very decent burger, but I could not really tell a huge difference between the Kobe beef and the meat in a good burger elsewhere. The fried cheesecake was very good. It comes in an almost egg roll like shell. I am curious to see how much better it would have been fresh (fried foods do not fare well when ferried about - hahaha). It comes with an out of this world raspberry sauce. It may be too sweet for some, but it was a good amount (could be a touch more) for me. I like things very sweet. Also worth mentioning here is their onion rings. My friend was nice enough to give me one of his order. He says it is the best onion ring he has ever had. I would say I would probably concur. A big bar grill place, with a decently varied menu. They've got some Italian dishes, in addition to your other standard fare. This place is very kid-friendly, and I was salivating over my daughter's grilled cheese sandwich. Actually, I remember that more than anything I've ever eaten there. Probably a burger, which I now recall fondly. I can also add that my wife was reasonably impressed with the salad bar. And ESPN is all over the place. When you're in the mood to have a beer and a burger while watching the game, you can't go wrong with Stanley's. If you hate beer and sports, you still can't really go wrong with Stanley's. With better-than-typical-bar-food food, a Cheers-like feel/decor, and a kitchen that's open blessedly-late, I hit it every other month in my rotation. When I'm not in the mood for foofy but don't quite wanna go to the diner, Stanley's is where it's at. They have two full bars with competent bartenders who are happy to mix up whatever nutwad concoction you tell 'em, in addition to old favorites. Don't miss half-price burger night (Tuesdays after 9pm), where you can get a kobe-beef and buffalo burgers (and regular ol' cow-burgers) for cheap. They have specials every night, but half-price burger night is definitely a favorite. Let it be known that Cindy is the best server ever; Ranji is a super-close second. (Just had to get that out.) What a terrific dive bar! Seriously, the place isn't fancy. It's old, outdated, and on the cheesy side. But that's part of the charm. Our server (we sat in the bar) was extreamely pleasant and helped us pick out food. We got fried deviled eggs, brushetta, and two bacon/beed burgers. Stanley's sets out to be a friendly, neighborhood sports bar and they accomplish just that! I am not generally a sports bar person, but I just love the sense of community that Stanley's maintains. This is truly the cheers of North Wilmington, which they know, because they play the Cheers theme song when it is time for fan roulette. (If they call two of the numbers on your fan club card, you get a goofy little prize. Wahoo!) I stick to the basics when I go to Stanley's. I usually get a burger, sandwich, or wings. The burgers are quite good AND half price on Mondays! I also really like their home-made kettle chips, but be warned, you can't eat just 1...or 20. I usually sit at the bar because that is where you will find the best service, which makes sense because those employees have been there the longest. The service in the restaurant is fine though, the bar tenders just go above and beyond. Stanley's also has a reasonably decent beer selection, although I would not mind seeing more craft brews on tap. read more

This is a difficult review to deliver. Partly because a good portion of the blame rests squarely on me for not complaining. But sometimes one simply doesn't feel like being a squeaky wheel. So maybe it's unfair to do so after the fact. Anyway maybe one shouldn't have to complain when they go out and spend money in a restaurant. I came by for a late lunch...2:00 pm on a slow Saturday. Ordered a burger and fries. Surprisingly, my meal came out rather quickly. It looked beautiful ...burger and toppings filling the plate and fries on the side in a cute mini fry basket. I ate. No joy at all however. Why? Even the initial bite of burger and the initial French fry were 100% at room temperature. The facts that the burger sort of tasted like cooking fuel and the fries were drenched in salt were only minor irritations. Of course subsequent bites and subsequent fries were no warmer than the first. Nonetheless I ate. Nourishment called. But as time passed the temperature thing really boggled my mind. How can this happen? One can only guess: A ready stack of already-cooked burgers and fries waiting to be served? That seems unlikely. I badly want to ask my server, who was very sweet. If you want a bland food in a dark cave, this is your place. I'm not sure when the last time they changed their oil for frying, but tasted like it was a long time ago. The booth we sat in also smelled a little odd. It definately wasn't a good odor. The decor is very old feeling and the place is extremely dark and the ceiling seems like it should be about 2 feet higher than it actually is. Food is extremely bland. Grilled salmon was ok, but didn't have any seasoning on it. Coleslaw was more mayo than slaw. Their fish and chips again was bland, the breading was an odd mixture, it wasn't a beer batter but more just bread crumbs, like you would use for chicken parm. Our meal was $50 with tip but we had a discount making it $30, and honestly the meal wasn't worth that amount. read more

Every time we do take out the order is wrong. We will be taking a break from this place for awhile. If this place was cheaper I would get why, but it's pretty expensive for the type of food they serve. The garlic wings or any type of wings you get are always way too spicy. Orders are never right.
