Apparently, this is the birthplace of my little itty bitty printer. *pats it on the...er...output tray* The only place where it was in stock, this Staples is across town. *le sigh* BUT, thanks to the beauty of the in-ter-net, I was able to order it online...to be shipped directly to moi...from this store...for FREE. (Well, the delivery was free.) The printer is seriously cute! Now some of you may say "Er...pieces of technology are not cute." But this one is! It's a chic BLACK color (hellooooo opaque fluorescent pens...OR...just think of how my Hello Kitty stickers will POP up against that background!...which I guess defeats the original intent of its being a chic black). And it's small. So cute! BEST of all, it was $150 - $50 rebate = $100! And did I mention the free shipping, which is especially important when you live on a fifth floor walkup??? On top of all that, as cheesy and corny as it is to say, when I went to submit my rebate online, those Staples commercials were TOTALLY right. That WAS easy. Buy on-line and pick up is quick. However, you should check before leaving the store because they left out 1 item and now we have to return back to the store to pick up that 1 item. The store location is ideal and great close to public transportation and they stay open late. If your using the print service on the 1st floor beware when faxing out documents. Your confirmation will say document sent and received however, when checking with the recipient it may NOT be received at all. If I had one piece of advice to anyone that steps into this store, it would be to use the 110% price guarantee! This Staples is convenient because of its location, and its size means that they pretty much have any office supply item that you need, but the mark-up on all of their items is insane. Example: I went in to buy a pack of name tags. The off -the-shelf price was 31 dollars. But Amazon had the same item for 12.99, so I got a discount of .... a lot of money (and it came out to cheaper than 12.99 as well because of the 110% match). Essentially the item at Staples was over 200% of the price online! The price guarantee is very easy to use as well (which is why this store still warrants a three star review). I like Staples, but not this particular store. I used to work in retail when I was in high school. I know it can be hard and I never hassle employees...but this place really is terrible. I saw a flyer in the mail and brought it to the store since I wanted to buy some office chairs. After trying out a bunch and comparing the prices, I finally decided on one. The flyer was not outdated but the Staples employee refused to honor the price on the flyer! The price tag on the chair was the same as in the flyer, but it was getting scanned in at a higher price. Confused, I started to walk out. Maybe not every Staples store is participating in the sale? On my way out, I saw their flyer stand and picked up a copy - it still showed my same chair for a lesser price like on the flyer that I originally presented. I brought this up to the sales associate who then started to get rude and frustrated with me! He kept insisting that the price that is coming up is the correct one. He was very condescending and was surprised with that I was asking. Your price tag says one price, the flyer says that same price...and yet you still wonder what the hell I am asking about? The flyer is even offered at YOUR store! Argh. Whatever. I went to another Staples store - and yes they honored the flyer's price. That's what good businesses do. Now that Circuit City is gone there is a serious lack of electronics stores on the Upper West side. You have the new Apple store on 67th and PC Richards on 87th. In between, you're screwed. If you think you can substitute a Staples visit to get your gadget fix, you're wrong. Staples is fine for buying paper and office supplies and that's it. The staff here spend a lot of time goofing around chatting with each other. There are a few that wander around asking if you need help, but one bad experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. Two female employees were yapping about a bad date while I was trying to check out. I asked them a couple of times about printer ink, which they completely ignored in order to continue their inane conversation. When she rang me up, I said, what about the ink I asked you about to which she replied, "what ink, you didn't say anything about ink?" 4 stars for a giant chain retailer??? I didn't think this was possible since the era of mom and pop shops in New York has passed. I haven't been treated like an actual customer (let alone a human) in a retail store in a very long time. In 10 minutes, I was approached and helped by 2 very friendly store clerks. One saw me looking at planners, and suggested I check out a different section that had more selection. Found what I was looking for! Then, in front of the pens, another store clerk offered a few opinions and helped me make a selection. The first clerk then came BACK just to make sure I found a suitable organizer! Staples rewards program is terrible! After you send in your used ink cartridges, it takes 6 weeks to process, and then after that you can only use the rewards $$ on a minimum of $100 purchase. Really?! So you can't even redeem your rewards without spending a hefty sum. read more

Be very careful. The salesmen receive extra bonuses for selling items that are either overstocked or out of favor, that they're trying to get rid of. I chose a printer that I liked but when he rings it up, the guy suddenly discovers "this amazing sale" on another model. Which is $30 less. So I think, why not. He then aggressively tries to sell me a lengthy warranty, and since it's only blahblahblah dollars, etc. Long story short, the printer (Brother LC201) is lousy, clumsy, poorly designed, slow, runs out of ink quickly. Okay. Next time I go in to buy a mouse, a guy tries to sell me a really expensive mouse, which is at the "amazing price" of $6 (or something). And I say, why is it so cheap. He says, it hasn't sold well because it's so expensive. Yeah, right. I'm onto their tactics. Saying no 3 times finally gets him to stop pushing. Then he tries to sell me a warranty--on a $20 mouse. Ridiculous. Know what you want, get what you want, and don't let those lousy salesmen try to sell you some "really amazing deal." read more

Needed to print one page, asked the employee where could I print and he was very kind. Got to the computer section in order to print, one computer didn't work, the other three were in use for over 20 minutes according to a girl there, and when someone got up that computer got messed up, I told an employee, he didn't do anything about it, had to wait 15 minutes for computer to reboot. Overall, I managed to print, but when having to face problems the employees failed as I see it, and so did the chain. read more

Avoid their self-service at this location. 1.5 of my 4 documents printed and the computer kept freezing. Then the staff, rather than being helpful tried to tell me they couldn't give a refund...when I insisted I would call my bank and dispute the charge, I got a partial refund. Where I go for all my supplies. I am particularly attracted to their pens section- it is one my top ten favorite things. This particular Staples is pretty large, so there is a great selection of everything here. Service, as in all Staples, is nonexistent, but who cares? Go explore on your own! Decent for basic office supplies however anything that involves customer service is a nightmare. I go here pretty often. I've had a lot of problems getting them to properly print documents according to instructions. Desk chair broke w/in a month. -- Having Staples honor any rebate, refund or service contract is impossible -- I purchased a all-in-one printer here which broke w/in my Staples Protection plan. Starting in mid-August, I first had to call HP 8 times to verify that it is broken for a total of 30 hours. Then I had to call Assurance over 4 times...each time calling a new dept to get an incident number. I had to go to UPS + mail them my 30 lbs printer. I mailed my printer to them on October 1... it is now the first week of December, and I STILL haven't gotten my gift certificate to purchase a new printer! Staples claimed (a) they keep messing up my email address each of the 5 times they tried to email me (which is just my damn name); (b) they need a photo of my receipt even though I already sent my printer; (c) they need me to call 2 ppl to verify amount of original purchase. I cannot skip printing out documents and contracts for 2 months + for these monkeys to figure out how to send a damn email. Anything that requires this Staples to do anything = it won't get done. If you are buying a couple pens and some paper, fine, go to Staples. For a printer, electronic, camera, desk chair or anything else, AVOID. read more

We came here to buy financial calculators but got wrong products. I wish employees knew about their products better.(we were too tired to come back to the store to change..) They charged us around $20 more than actual costs. We realized this at the bus stop and came back. It took us time to check all status but we got our money back so it was ok. read more

I was not sure what to expect, I had to quickly pick up a shredder and some other things. As I walked in, the store was clean and organized. There is a computer and photocopy area that people can use which is pretty cool. Anyway, I was helped by Jorge and a manager Maribel who were both great. Really the main problem at this location is the managers. Not the floor supervisors. The higher ups like the General Manager. The employees here are clearly being pressured to follow misguided rituals that are for some reason thought to be good customer service. For example there is a guy whose job it is to assist with the self service copiers..however it gets to be too much sometimes. If I feel like I know what I'm doing and want to do it myself, I shouldnt have to have someone breathing down my neck commenting and constantly asking me questions. Again, not blaming him, I'm sure he's being watched and told he needs to engage with every customer and constantly ask if you need help, etc. Also it appears they are constantly under staffed in the copy center.. the employees they have there are clearly working hard and pushing themselves to the limit, but they should not have to. Management should give them more workers up there at all times. read more

This Staples doesnt have the tables in-store and thus the saleswoman directed me to the online store to purchase the table. When I asked how many people can fit around the 4-ft table, she answered "4". When I asked how many ppl can fit around the 6-ft table, she answered "4". Same answer for the 8-ft table. Staples is super-shady with their rebates. I purchased a shredder & the associate selling it to me told me VERBALLY that the price was $59.99; in addition, it was marked as such on the shelf. Slickster-surprise move courtesy of Staples... it's actually $89.99 when I get to the register & the cashier tells me I have to submit a form to get the additional $30 back via mail-in rebate. I was truly vexed at having been deceived but went ahead & made the purchase anyway. I tried 7 times over the following week to submit the rebate online but each time I got an error message saying my request could not be processed at this time, try again later. I finally called their help desk only to be told that the username function on their website isn't working & that I must fill in all the information again without including a username/password. WTH, really??? Why is the site instructing customers to enter a username if that function isn't working? How about disabling that feature until it's fixed to avoid customers experiencing issues??? (I guess that's too simple of a solution, duhhh...) Anyway, I finally got it submitted & expected that I would get my $30 visa check card within 6-8 wks as promised to me when I was in the store & also as was confirmed on the website after I submitted all of my information. I even received a rebate confirmation tracking number via email within minutes of my submission. Unfortunately....... a week later, I get an email from staples stating "sorry, your rebate isn't valid & has been cancelled" --- Once again, WTH??? After additional phone calls & online chats, I'm told their records show I made the purchase on 9/20/14 & the deadline was 8/30/14 so I didn't qualify for the rebate. I correct them & point out that I made the purchase on 8/29/14 but didn't get to submit the rebate online on 9/20/14. After being called a liar, I finally had to scan & email my receipt to them in order to prove that I had indeed made the purchase on 8/29. I think Staples purposely makes their mail-in rebate process a big headache because they want customers not to follow-through so they can keep the money they're supposed to refund & ultimately increase their bottom-line. read more

I purchased a copy card and there was a mishap with the copy machine and I was unable to print anything and it then told me I had no money left on my card even though I didn't print anything. I am continually baffled by the disgusting lack of customer service at every Staples store I go to. It doesn't matter if it is in Harlem, the UWS, midtown or downtown, their employees don't care. Yesterday I called this store to ask the Print/Copy center a question about a large print job (700 pages). 6 attempts to connect me with the Print center resulted in no one picking up the phone. I asked the employee who kept transferring me to call the Copy center and get someone of the phone. I was then on hold for 18 minutes! When the Copy Center finally picked up I asked the the male employee 'why it took so long for someone to pick up the phone--why would you keep a customer on hold for over 15 minutes' and he said "you have a fuc---ing attitude" and hung up on me. Since I had an extremely large print job I had to go into this Staples (instead of emailing, etc). Of the 3 people working, Danielle (who gets 5 stars from me) was the only one running around to help every customer-- and she was kind and courteous. The male employee who began helping me just walked away to help someone else and never came back; while the third employee stayed in the far back printing another job. If it wasn't for Danielle 11 of us would have not had anything printed. After my printing was done I needed some office supplies. 1 employee showed me where everything was. I gathered my supplies and headed to the checkout line. I waited for 5 minutes on line. There was NO ONE ahead of me, 4 employees and a manager (I assume--he was wearing a tan shirt) all standing in a clot talking and laughing with each other. If I didn't go and just dump the supplies on the counter in front of a cashier I would have waited another 5 minutes. read more

Not having a printer can, quite frankly, stink at times. Never fear, though, Staples is here. I had an interview on the Upper West Side earlier this week, and needed a hard copy of my resume. This store was within just a few blocks of the interview location, and I effortlessly submitted the documentation online through the Staples website to be available at 11 am the next morning. The $5 surcharge was worth it; $13 for the resume, and a 60 some odd-page document, as well, seems steep, but when you don't have a laptop printer, you do what you need to do. This store had the order waiting for me, although I found it obnoxiously parsimonious and downright insulting that they didn't want to give me a black binder clip or a folder for my materials. I feel bad for the gentleman ahead of me in line; the store wasn't very accommodating, and they apparently lost his documents. I suppose it's luck of the draw, or in this case, the file cabinet. read more

They had a printer advertised in their flier that was eligible for 4 months free HP ink delivery service if you buy it. Only their sales flier was wrong. They also offered a 2 year warranty for $49.99. Then found out their advertised price for the warranty was actually $10.99. Then they said the printer came with a small starter ink set in the box. Then it didn't. When all of these things were wrong they didn't know how to problem solve. The 1800 number was great, and the store manager was very nice after the fact, but the regular employees here are so dumb it's laughable. And it reflects on how dumb the company is. read more

I like the wide selection of this Staples, and that it's a few blocks down from the post office, which means I can do a supply run, and then go mail everything I need to. The quality of their cashier staff varies widely, so it's never a consistent level of customer service. read more
