Staples... I'm kinda forced to come here due to its proximity to my home office. Really the only thing I love about it is that its less than 5 minutes away. The parking lot is a death trap, and the customer service inside isn't much better. The lines at the check outs are sooo long, and super slow... and I find it annoying that they Staples rewards card doesn't add points on itself but you have to watch for coupons via email or in the mail. Not very sustainable. **this isn't their fault, but Solana Beach outlawed plastic bags so be sure to bring your own if you happen to come to this neighborhood. I've gotten a million things copied here, literally probably 1 million things. And think, out of the 1 million things maybe one experience there was A-OK. Other times I've dealt with rude staff, broken printers, our of order machines... and the worst thing? If you complain about say, a broken paper cutter or stapler in the do-it-yourself section they basically will tell you it's a privileged that you even have the option. Yep, I had a girl tell me that "They don't even have to provide paper cutters so if it's broken they sell them and I can buy one." Sigh. They have all the stuff you need, I don't find the prices to be noticeably high, and they'll keep getting my business cause it's nearby and there isn't another option. It's a case of supply and demand and I don't expect the customer service to improve as a result. read more

I had the best experience this week at Staples in Solana Beach! Daryl and Whitney were amazing and were so patient with me as I sought advice on printers. Whitney was outstanding, printing dozens of photos that I needed for a project and I was clueless!! Whitney truly saved my life!!! Pretty terrible service- anytime I've been there for printing servies, something is always broken. And its never communicated to you at the beginning that these tasks can be completed because of the failure in their systems. The staff isn;t helpful or apologetic. read more

You can see by my mostly very positive reviews of businesses that I'm not a hater. However, this Staples location is a disaster. Either they are in the process of shutting down the location or the manager is very poor. My office is close to it so I've been in there at least 6 to 10 times in the last two months. I have not had a single satisfactory experience there. There are always items all over the floor and the people at the checkout counter do not seem to know what they are doing. You must avoid this business. Tonight there were at least 12 people in line. There were only two young women on the registers and one of them was not helping any of the customers. There were two employees working in the printing area, which has its own Register. Once before someone in that department used their register to check me out. Tonight they refused to do it, despite the long line. Seriously, there were people in that line that had been there over 20 minutes. I finally had to put down my items and leave the store because it is getting so late. I have now driven to the Office Depot in the Stater Brothers and Target shopping center and I'm hopeful that things will go better for me. It is a much better run store then that Staples. UPDATE! I am now already out of Office Depot. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Seriously, four different employees crossed my path and asked if they could help me find something. They had the things that I needed in stock which staples did not. I would guess that Staples must be in trouble. The local representatives are almost always an accurate reflection of the situation at the top. read more

Let me join the masses of displeasure here. To be quite honest, I'm not even sure where to begin outlining the failure of a business model this place represents. The most egregious is the customer service. Considering the vast array of options available: FedEx, UPS, Kinkos, Best Buy... and the list goes on and on... people come back (and are willing to pay a bit more, just ask Jim Nordstrom), for good customer service. With that said, higher prices, terrible customer service (and can I please have that with an eye-roll and 30 minute wait), no thank you. As this is a franchise, I would encourage the owner, who I assume is in it for the money, to take a closer look at his company and its employees. read more

Then used mailing service with great ease and given info to find a promo code to save a few dollars as a first time user. I really can't understand why this store's rating is so low. I walked in at 8:30pm and the associates there are still super friendly and eager to help. I called in to purchase a printer, someone checked it for me. Then when I walked in, one of the associates already knew which printer I was talking about and told me that it was ready for me at the cashier. I also went to look for printer paper, he also directed me to the corresponding section. I asked him about the paper that has a rebate because I didn't see it on display. He patiently helped me to look it up and also told me which case would be the cheapest to purchase. He even helped me with putting that heavy box inside the cart. Later as I asked about HP's instantink, he lead me to the section and explained the different options. I ended up purchasing it, too. I really wished that I had asked for his name. He and the cashier were both extremely friendly and helpful. read more

I checked online to verify the product I was going to buy was in stock. I got there and the paper I needed was still on the truck even though both online and their system said there were three in stock. One employee said to come back in two hours and one said 24. I asked if they could find out what stores nearby had it in stock. The employee told me it was in stock in another store via the system that told me it was in the store I was currently at. He didn't know how to look up products in the system and didn't offer to call and confirm the other store had it. Very rude, unhelpful, untrained employees. This is my second bad experience at the staples and I will not return!!!!! read more

The problem here is with the prices. Some things are insane. Maybe the Rancho Sante Fe crowd don't care and just throw the plastic at it, but we are not all that well placed. For example, I wanted a roll of clear plastic to cover a book. Here a small roll was $20. $20, for a bit of sticky plastic.... Got a larger roll, at Albertsons, for 99c. You do the math!!!! Try the 99c store in Encinitas first, you will save a kings ransom, and leave this store to the people who have so much money they just don't care. read more

Employee left me waiting for 20 minutes; came back with a Starbucks, and told me in order to do my 8 copies would need to charge me a rush fee since they were closing in 40 minutes. Our company check arrived 4 days late due to vacation schedules. On a $401.39 invoice, Staples credit card (run by Citi bank) charged us $46.91 late fees and interest! Their APR is 24.99% with an automatic $39.00 late fee tacked on. Disgraceful. Don't they realize it is even easier to order from Amazon or Office Depot? They must be clueless if they think commodity products like copy paper or pens can command these type of outrageous finance charges and poor customer service. read more

I asked Arianna to help me find a particular item which I had printed the item from staples website with the item code and everything and showed it to her and she still asked me what was I looking for. She took me down an isle and tells me it's here somewhere and walked away. I looked and asked someone else who then goes rudely you can't find it! No I cant! I bought a Staples' desk chair. Within 5 weeks of buying this chair, the back support no longer worked. I barely leaned on the back as it was, due to working over my computer all day at work. I am sitting on the phone as I type this, been waiting for the print department to pick up for 15 minutes now. When the first person answered I could not understand what she said. She said the greeting so fast it was not comprehensible. Not sure if this place has a manager to train staff. The staff are rude, if you can find someone to help you. They never have the ink I need for my printer. I would say I have been in the store about 5 times this year to get ink for a printer (I bought from them this year) and they were out of stock. I needed a universal power adapter for my trip to Argentina and I called the store beforehand to ask if they had any in stock. The lady on the phone said they had some so I told her I would come in. Once I got there, they were out of the product and I was very upset since I called in before. An employee named Ruben brought them back from this by trying to find it and then ordering it for me online and giving me a discount on the product. My dad buys all his business stuff at this staples and they would have lost our business, but Ruben's customer service really made up for it!! read more

Bummer because I love the location of this Staples but the service is bad. The store seems discombobulated also. Stuff everywhere and it seems to be disorganized. The girl at the front greets you and is very nice but you are in trouble if you need help. I needed help finding the right type f disc to save pictures to. I found the aisle myself and the girl confirmed it for me loudly over the speaker. Once I figured out I needed help, I had to hunt for someone. She didn't speak English well and didn't seem to totally grasp what I needed, she said she would get someone. They never came. I pulled out my phone and had to Google the info myself! I got what I needed, checked out and made sure to ask if I could return the item if it was wrong and mentioned that no one ever showed up to help. I worked with both Mike and Tyler for a printing project for a flyer a few weeks ago. They were personable, helpful, and worked very hard to make sure that I had the correct color, quality, and overall presentation of my printed materials. I will no longer use any other local printer, since Mike was able to provide me with the best price possible. I am extremely happy with the service I was provided from Mike in the Print Center, and he has my business moving forward for many jobs like these. read more
