Ok so like everyone else here I am a Boiling Crab fan. I just don't like that 30-40 minute drive. This place was pretty good! They actually let you sample the sauces before you pick so no need to worry if you aren't sure what to get. The prices were fine, no complaints there. I wish they served red potatoes instead of brown, but hey.. the shrimp was good, not too salty, right amount of season, service was great. I'll be back. read more

Waited 30-40 mins after getting our drinks and finished our fries then we were waited on and received refills. I cannot say enough positive things about Star Crab to express just how delicious their food is and how spectacular their service is. Yes, I have been to The Boiling Crab, and I think Star Crab is way better in my opinion. Their sauce is spectacular, and their seafood is far more moist and juicy than boiling crab. The few bad reviews it has is for service, "bad" seafood or the writing on the walls. I've never had an issue with any of these things, if anything, the servers are fast, and polite. They're not customer service experts or there to be your entertainment for the evening. They serve you food and refill your drinks, what more could you ask for? They no longer allow you to write anywhere on their walls, and I've never ONCE gotten sick from their food, and I've eaten here 10+ times. And, every single person I introduce to Star Crab has loved it. I'm going there again this Sunday as a matter of fact. :] read more

The food here is actually good! The service was really great. It was fast and efficient. The host we had was really sweet and sat us fast. Our server was so great. She was helpful and sweet. I believe they were twins. I would recommend to go here and ask for the twins. They are great waitresses and hostesses. read more

No one even acknowledges you when you walk in. Have to wave and flag a waiter down just to be noticed. Once seated, it takes them 15 mins just to come to your table to take an order. And to top it off, our waiter named Taylor was very rude. I will not be going to this spot anymore and will tell all of family and friends to stay away. read more

Whenever I get a craving for juicy shrimp and shrimp alone...I find myself at Star Crab. It's located in a strip mall on Magnolia. We usually get a booth I get the 1p pound shrimp bag shells off (I'm too impatient to peel them myself). I also get a side of white rice, corn, and a beer to help guzzle down all the deliciousness. The flavor they capture in that bag is like nothing I've ever tasted, even been to Killer Shrimp in La and it had nothing on this place. Just typing about it makes my mouth water right now! We've been to this place for the first time today. We usually go to Boiling Crab in Garden Grove for our crawfish fix. Crawfish was frozen, so won't comment given the quality can vary (it was not good when we went). We got the full house sauce, which had too much lemon in it. The lemon taste overwhelmed the other ingredients; we asked for extra garlic in our sauce, but barely tasted it. Shrimps were overcooked and not juicy. Cajun fries were crunchy, but it was greasy and it was underseasoned (there was a small amount of seasoning sprinkled on top of the fries) Overall, we were not satisfied. read more

I came here Valentine's Day 2/14/2018 around 5pm I was a little upset with my husband it was so early, but I'm glad we did come early because as we where leaving it was getting packed. The food came out hot and fast. We ordered the family bucket ($41) and the Cajun fries. They where good and the bucket was plenty big with 3lb of food and the go to favorites of shrimp, crawfish, and mussels plus sausage, corn, and potatoes. I love how the food here is much more flavorful and isnt bland whatsoever which is perfect for my South Asian tastebuds lol. Other than that everyone is super friendly so it works perfectly! Yuuuumo! Very delicious & satisfying alternative to Boiling Crab in the I.E. if you don't want to drive to the OC. Ordered the calamari, shrimp "full house", garlic bread & Dungeness crab. Everything was very good except for the previously frozen Crab. Crab was dry and over cooked.We ordered the Dungeness crab and the meat was mushy inside as if it was over cooked from frozen not fresh. What a shame since the restaurant name has "crab" in it. So the crab you order should be top notch right?! Edit to previous post - so on my second visit to this place the service was so bad! We waited 1-1/2hr for our food as we watched other tables who arrived after us get theirs first. And the place wasn't even busy! We waited so long that we tried canceling the order of shrimp so we could just leave already. But the waitress finally brought it out and credited our bill for the cost. No more needing to drive to the Boiling Crab all the way in the OC. Same great prices, but the taste of the sauces are different from Boiling Crab, I found the mix I like. I recommend the full house, medium spicy. I did try the hot as well, which was also delicious but the spice made it difficult to enjoy since I had to keep blowing my nose due to spice. I did notice that getting the Cajun sauce only instead of the full house sauce, was a hint sweet and a little too plain for my liking. If you like green mussels, you have to try it here. I like to also get clams or shrimp. And if you like oysters, take advantage of the season now. And not to mention the Beers are $4. read more

This is so disappointing that I'm writing this because I love their food and everything but their rules are stupid. I tried to order a bag of potatoes and corn (alone in a bag with sauces because I don't eat meat) Which I've ordered before through doordash/Postmates. I tried to order a bag of shrimp (for my daughter) with potatoes and corn. The first order came wrong with the wrong sauce (my daughter can't have spicy) and so I called to try and fix that which they said to come in and bring the old bag of food (which was fine) I decided that instead of going in, I would just order a bag of potatoes with corn & sauce. So I called back and explained to a girl named Sara and she said that was fine, to call once the order is placed. So I placed the second order through doordash and called to let her know that it was a done deal, then she later said she couldn't add the sauce to the bag???? I'm like what??? That's what we just spoke about. So long story short the first order got messed up with no refund, the second order they had to cancel because they won't add a $2 charge for the sauce. Apparently they don't add sauce to the bags with potatoes and corn . Which is stupid. Some people don't/can't eat meat but love their sauce/vegetables and they're just being inconsiderate. It's not that hard to add $2 sauce fee and throw it on the side or in the bag. They said I had to go in and order. So ridiculous. I will not be ordering from here again due to their ridiculous rules. This place is unbelievably good! The atmosphere is amazing! The service is spectacular! Of course, the food is mouthwatering!!! The house sauce with shrimp and Cajun fries = perfection! I totally recommend this place! It's cheap, fun, and a little tip, get more than 1 pound! The more the better!! Also I love how they put the paper on the table, easy clean up for a HUGE mess you will make! Trust me! Nothing great. To be seated was quick and easy. The booths are large and spacious plenty of room to get messy. The issue is the taste, service, and price. Taste The spices felt a little off, I'm a regular at Cajun Swamp in Fullerton CA and pretty regular at Boiling Crab in Garden Grove. Both spots have better, garlic, spice, kick to it. Here sauce and taste just fell flat. Service I felt really bad for our server. She was doing everything she could but you could tell she had too many tables. It was just her, and she had to manage 8 tables plus new guest coming, ordering to go, and paying. She just couldn't give us the attention and service we needed. We had to ask for our drink order three times, she forgot our ranch, and she dropped off the check late. Again she was slammed. Price Maybe market price is different in riverside, but it was more expensive than I ever paid for me and my wife- and we didn't order alcohol. Second, I feel they weighed the crab sauce in instead of it by itself we only got three legs, and that barely was enough to share. At the end I wouldn't come back, I would just make the trip to hit up Cajun crab or boiling crab. read more

I liked it! If you don't have boiling crab near you, this is a good alternative. What isn't good at all: corn, sausage. What is good but not as good as boiling crab: shrimp, fries, and calamari. Also, there's only a single stall bathroom for each gender (gotta wait to wash your hands). read more

If you're looking for a much shorter wait and closer location than Boiling Crab then this is a good spot. You have all your standard items. We got the Shrimp Star Full House style. I thought the flavoring was just alright. It just tasted kind of bland and not filled with lots of flavor - tasted like it needed more spices or something. Cajun fries were good. The service is what the lower score is for though. A lot of the servers just zoomed by without making eye contact when I was trying to ask for lemons and when we were finally able to flag someone down to get lemons, she dumped them on our table and sped away without giving us anything to squeeze them into. :( Eventually we just got up and grabbed those little salt and pepper cups ourselves. It also took forever to get our check and to pay. It just seemed a bit disorganized even though it wasn't busy. Overall, it was aiight. read more

Star Crab is my ABSOLUTE favorite shrimp joint in town! I visit here frequently; on dates, with friends, with family and all by myself this one time because I couldn't resist! I usually order 2 lbs of shrimp with all of the spices and at medium heat. DELICIOUS! In the bag, I usually order sausage and potatoes and on the side, an order of their seasoned fries and a beer! Came here for our daughter's graduation dinner on 6/7 reservation at 8 PM for a party of 17. Good environment and great food. But I didn't like the fact they wouldn't hold our table when I told them we might be late since we were at my daughter's HS graduation and I was worried that ceremony and pictures were going run longer. I was very upset that half the family had to leave the graduation to save our table! When I got there the place wasn't even crowded. I gave 4 stars because the seafood was good. But not holding our table or changing my reservation to 15 mins later, is poor customer service. I've never had a problem with any restaurants before when we were running late. Btw, I made the reservations at least two or more weeks prior to 6/7. I would recommend this place for the food. But beware if you're running late they won't hold your table even with reservations weeks in advance. read more

Decided to try out Star Crab today while on lunch so I called ahead and placed an order for my food to be ready when I arrive since I had a time limit. When I got there it took about 7 minutes for my food to come out. While waiting I saw that they offered garlic bread so I asked a waiter who was passing by if I could exchange my fries for the garlic bread. I was told that since I placed an order before coming in that I could not exchange. I did not understand and it was further explained to me that when a customer cancels an item that is being prepared it comes out as lost inventory which is deducted from servers tips. So my friend and I get there and the girl who greets us let's us know we can go ahead and choose a table so we do sit at an awkward middle table and I ask her what the happy hour special are and she says oh that sign is old we don't have that anymore wth?!? Everyone has mixed feeling about this place but to me everyone is way too picky. This is my favorite place in the city to eat at. Service is great, the pricing is amazing for what you get. I usually get a pound of shrimp and add sausage or potatoes and it fills me up. Great environment. It's a little messy but they provide bibs and the proper cleaning after you are done eating. As far as the other reviews I've never got sick after or had anything to say bad about this place. If you have kids who don't like seafood they provide chicken strips and garlic bread as well. This is comparable to Bubba Gumps and The Boiling Crab but cheaper and more laid back. The food is good and the servers are nice but they neglect to check on the tables enough. We arrived and told them we would wait for a booth since all were full. We waited 20-25 minutes and decided fine, we will just get take a table. The reason there were no booths is because the servers are slow and rarely check on their tables. They finally go to take the payment for a table 5 minutes after we ordered. I ask if we can take their booth since there was no one in line and the server said sorry we can't switch tables after you order. I like this place but I've never heard of that. Went to Starcrab today and it wasnt busy as they usually are. We were sat in a booth by the wall which gave a little privacy unless another table is right next to you. Still nice. Our food comes out and everything is great and so was the service. Funny thing was we had a table sit next to us who gave the staff a very hard time, and seems to be asking for free accommodations of some sort. Highlight of the night was when she went into their kitchen(I presume) causung a scene. Which she ended up complaining to us(we sat at the table next to theirs) that the food was served cold and etc etc. Best way to end a night out with a high climax. I do feel bad for the staff there. Other than that, we always try to come here 2x a week. It's our go to spot. read more
