I first came to Star Crab when it first opened up a few years ago back then it was called boiling star crab. As an avid Boiling Crab eater I was excited to have something similar to that in riverside but it wasn't up to par so I never went back. This December though I went back only because I was craving some Cajun shrimp and wow has this place improved!!! The sauce is as good if not better than boiling crab. They've completely rebranded themselves from the inside out and it is amazing. So so happy with this gem of a place. The full house sauce on the shrimp is to die for. This place is sooo good. Honestly there's not that many good restaurants with good food and good service but Boiling Star Crab has really good, fresh food with great service! Went on a Tuesday mid day. It was empty with two thin waitresses chatting it up. The good thing is we sat in the far end corner booth and the booths are so high you're kinda in your own little box, I like that privacy when I eat. The Peel and eat shrimp were so tasty we got hot, house seasoning and extra garlic with a side of 911 sauce for the heat but only added a couple drops because it was one of the hottest sauces I've ever had at a restaurant. We ordered corn , sausage, Cajun fries. The corn was not the extra sweet , just regular frozen but still OK. The sausage was tasty, wish it was smoked sausage like farmer John or hillshire those go good with the spice. All our kids ate were fries and potatoes,they liked them with ketchup. Overall this place has fast service, good fresh and great priced shrimp. The flavor is close to Boiling crab with out all the driving and hipster feel more of a mom and pop. The booths made it for me. Only thing lacked were the two ladies wish they were more caring rather than ' this is just my part time'. read more

It's fun and hip but the shrimp were overcooked, small and crab dry. Sauce was ok. We normally go to a place in San Diego that is much better. If they didn't overcook the food it would be great. Service was good but I only review the quality of the food. read more

The look and feel is like the boiling crab. The shrimp is very much comparable to the crab house. Their fried shrimp for kids was also great. Their fries were good, but not as good as the fries from the boiling crab. I would go again for the shrimp. read more

This place never ceases to disappoint me. Their service is great. I always prefer the lemon pepper or garlic butter. I like medium spice so it has a kick to it! 1 lb of shrimp, 1 corn in it with a side order of sweet potato fries fills me up everytime. I often go to this place because its less of a drive compared to Boiling Crab. Make sure you don't come in your nice clothes. You know that your food is good when you make a mess! If there was an option for 2.5 stars thats what i would give. I have been here twice,both times i ordered it to go...my first experience was great,they were friendly and food was ready to be picked up in no more than 10-15 minutes,our order was hot,correct and had all the essentials...utensils,bibs,ect...i just ordered again yesterday for me and a coworker but this time the girl on the phone was RUDE,and acted bothered to take my order and give me the total...it was ready by the time i got there,but this time when i got to work and took out the food,i was missing utensils,my potatoes even tho i was charged for it and my wings were plain even tho i told her ten times i wanted cajun...i was already at work so i had no time to go back,i didnt even bother calling to complain cuz im just not going to go back again. There is another crab place right down the street. This was just my own experience,im sure many have gone many times w no incident. I thought it. Would be sooo much better! The soup was like milk with potatoes added and the clams were just not to be found. The sausage was fatty and cold, I laughed when the waitress told us the family shrimp would be enough for my husband, daughter and myself, then it came out with 1 mushy 6" piece of corn and 2 small potatoes. Everything was by weight, so I paid for the weight of the shrimp(all body parts intact), shells for the clams even though they were swimming somewhere else, and crawfish that looked like it was going to crawl out of the bag. read more

Finally a good Cajun restaurant near my house. I don't have to go all the way to hacienda heights to the boiling crab anymore. This place has good food, customer service and prices. I will be coming again. The seasoning is a bit more on the garlic side compared to the boiling crab but it's not over bearing it doesn't ruin the taste. I loved it it's different. We chance this place when one time we visited Koreana Grill. This place has a new dining style. you are to eat with your hands. They have the best shrimp with spicy taste. The price is reasonable and their service is fast. I would recommend this to friends and family. read more

In my opinion, Star Crab tastes BETTER than Boiling Crab and local competitors, Seafood/Crawfish next block and Rock Star by UCR. Reason 1: Both Boiling Crab's and Rock Star's combo sauce is too salty, and Seafood/Crawfish's combo sauce has a hint of coconut flavor (just not my thing). For maximum flavor, I recommend Star Crab's Full House Sauce in Hot or above. It's garlicky and tasty just like BC's, minus the excess salt. Reason 2: Star Crab serves wine (in addition to beer)!!!...though I think RS and Seafood/Crawfish may have wine by now. Reason 3: Star Crab's shrimp has been consistently fresh, plump, and easy to peel (inconsistent "freshness" quality experienced with RS and Seafood/Crawfish). Reason 4: No waiting like at BC. Reason 5: Excellent service from Margarita...and that's only at Star Crab Riverside! read more

This was my first experience at a place like this (because Joe's Crab Shack, doesn't count right..? ) , I don't have much to complain about. For it being empty, compared to how I've seen it when I've come to Koreana, the service wasn't that great. Good taste and good value, not too expensive, thumbs up there. My boys and I looked forward to some crawfish in the 951 area instead of having to drive to OC. When I asked about live crawfish I was told by the waitress that they just received a shipment but it's still frozen. It might take a bit longer to boil them. I questioned the waitress...... If the crawfish is LIVE then why would it be frozen?? She went to the kitchen and came back to tell me that they're LIVE crawfish. I asked again, SURE THEY'RE LIVE?? I'm originally from New Orleans, I know what fresh crawfish taste like. After about 20 minutes, 4 pounds of crawfish arrived at our table. My boys and I were excited to dig in to realized we were served FROZEN crawfish!!! You can totally tell they were not fresh. They were more dried and rubbery. I questioned the waitress and she told me she would find out and we were ignored the next 15 minutes. Then a gentleman (who claimed he wasn't the owner but a worker at the restaurant) came out with a crawfish that was barely moving to show me that I was served LIVE crawfish. After living in New Orleans for over 20 years, I definitely know what fresh crawfish taste like. The flavor of the crawfish was good, just wished they didn't cheat me!!! read more
