We usually come here at least 2/3 times a month and the food is good, their service is very slow and you have to keep reminding your server for what you need. I went in today with my daughters and my 3yr Old brought her kids meal off with her (since they don't offer kids meals) and they wouldn't allow her to eat in the restaurant. I wouldn't even give this place a star if I had the choice. The staff is absolutely rude and uncooperative. We came here after being recommended by friends to check it out. Finally decided to try it and from the moment we went walked in, we were ignored by the cashier. But what made matters worse was that they refused to let our 2 year-old toddler bring a half-eaten grilled cheese sandwich in to sit down. She specifically stated that they normally did allow outside food in but because the owner was in the store, they would not let us. They told us to go sit in our car until he finished before we were allowed to be sat after waiting 45 minutes. When we asked if we could speak to the manager and ask for this small exception, several other team members came over and started being negative and complaining about going out of their way for a toddler. The cashier was absolutely unprofessional and went back towards the kitchen to get the manager but never came back out. You could see employees peer out from behind the kitchen door but no one came forward. It is unfair to allow other customers leniency but when it came to our two-year-old, there was none because the owner was there. I finally had a chance to go to Star Crab from Los Angeles to Riverside. I went to Annapolis Maryland couple times for visiting and had a chance to stop by Chesapeake Bay to try famous blue crab. After visiting there I was looking for something similar taste in Los Angeles and went to Boiling Crab couple times. One of my friend recommended me to try Star Crab in Riverside. I went there this afternoon. Appearance of the restaurant was not so fancy but table was big and comfortable. I ordered shrimp, scallop and king crab leg with fries and bowl of rice. I tried medium spice and taste was just what I was looking for. Not too salty, not to oily, great garlic taste to eat with rice. Price was reasonable. Overall flavor was just perfect, not too strong, just like homemade taste. Next time I want to try little spicier. read more

First time here and I really wish I could of given them a higher rating! We love seafood and we're very excited to try this place out. Parking lot has very limited spaces so you take time just to park. We waited about 30 minutes for a table on Friday night so not that bad. After being seated and waiting over 10 minutes for our waitress was a sign of our evening. We placed our food and drink order promptly because we had enough time to discuss what we all wanted. As all our orders came out an order of crab was missing and we informed the waitress...she forgot to put it in! So we had to wait again for that order! When we were seated it was a lot of customers so I did take that in account but by our mid dinner it wasn't nearly busy and she only came back once to our table to see if we were okay. This was my first time at a boiling crab type restaurant. I told the waitress but she didn't offer up any info, I had to ask how it works and she didn't know what the market price was on crab she just gave an estimate. I suppose it was ok but if I walked in off the street with out having looked the place up I wouldnt have known what to expect. There were two of us and we got the mid size family bucket, with mild/garlic butter. The blue crab wasn't worth it, it was mushy and had no taste, maybe it was over cooked or because it was frozen. The crawfish and shrimp were good. The clams and mussels were ok everything may have been a little over cooked. I expected it to be better. The total was $80 for the bucket, two drinks and tip. There wasn't any left overs. If I go back I wouldn't order the bucket again. I'd suggest just picking one or two items and an appetizer. read more

This place was great! The sauce was really good and tasty. We had the shrimp, lobster, and Dungeness crab. They came out in their own bags with the sauce we picked, and all three were fresh and scrumptious. Added potato to the orders, and they soaked up all the delicious flavor of the sauce. Came here because boiling crab is an hour and a half away. In all honesty I would drive 2 hours just to go there instead of cutting it short to these 20 minutes I drove. The food is not fresh at all. Me and my family tried this place because we read these great reviews ! I was sorely disappointed. First off, we knew this place was going to be a bit different , what we didn't know is that ,at least for the food we ordered, there was not gonna be any plates or forks. Basically you just eat with your hands and there is a cloth on the table so you can just set it down instead of using a plate. This was a bit of a new concept to me and my family, which isn't exactly a bad thing but it would have been nice if our server warned us before bringing our food and simply throwing it on the table.It was simply a bit too surprising/shocking to not be warned in advance.We ordered a entree for the table that feeds up to 7-9 people which is like a big stew of different seafoods that is set on the table only in a big plastic bag. Everyone has to use their hands to dig in so it gets extremely messy. Servers were not very helpful since ours rarely asked if we wanted refills for a drinks or even bring us any napkins or helped clean off the table a bit. Me and the family thought the food was very average tasting , it had a lot of garlic so it definitely was not for everyone. Bill came out to be $110 as expected but felt way to expensive for such a lousy experience. All in all, the food and the service is not worth it. There are ALOT of better places for your money so please take my advice and keep looking. read more

I love boiling crab, but rarely go to eat there because the nearest one is 30 miles away. I recently found out about Star Crab from a friend of mine, so I decided to try the place. The atmosphere is exactly like boiling crab, the writing on the walls, plastic sheets, finger foods. The restaurant itself is pretty small, only containing 4 booths and about 6 tables. It felt REALLY awkward. My friend and I ordered 1 order of oysters, 2 pounds of shrimp, and 2 baskets of cajun fries. The oysters were okay, not too shabby. The shrimp was overcooked, so the skin would not separate from the shell. However, their sauce was really good because they put minced garlic into it; and i LOVE garlic. The cajun fries were not cajuned at all, and they were pretty overcooked, almost like they deep-fried them about 3 different times. The waiter was pretty friendly, but we were given no refills the entire time, not until we had to flag the waitress down to ask for refills. For a knock-off of boiling crab, this restaurant was okay. Mabye I might go back again just to see if my experience might be a little better next time! read more

Honestly. I am so disappointed. Really disappointed. I have a friend who works here and she wasn't working today. I went with one of my good friends cause Boiling Crab is too far away. The waitress was super nice and friendly. The food was pretty good. I got a pound of shrimp with full house (type of sauce). Flavor was all there. The wait was a bit long which I was unsure why but it's okay. Eating through my shrimp I did find a piece of hair in there. Freaked just a little, didn't want to make a big commotion but I decided to tell the waitress. She was alarmed and I told her I didn't want to make a big deal but should probably let them know. She apologized profusely and offered us Cajun fries. The fries were good too. It's a huge disappointment because I was already skeptical from going in the place is a C rating...I don't even go to B rating places. But my climbing friends told me it was good so I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately the food didn't beat the fact that it's not a place that meets the standard sanitary requirements. I'm sorry I won't be coming here again. Food is good. I'll just start from the beginning. The servers are friendly and do seem like they are trying, but it didn't seem like they knew what was on their own menu or what specials they had going on. We got that flyer for beer that was advertised at $1; we checked with the server, and verified at least three times before we ordered. At the end we were still charged full price for each cup we ordered. Yes, I said cup, they don't have glass cups at least not when I was there. It was so small too, literally three sips, and no pitcher either. So we ordered shrimp, crawfish, and sweet potato fries. My buddy got the really hot crawfish because that's how he rolls. According to him it wasn't even that spicy. A medium compared to BC flavors. I went with mild/Cajun crawfish and shrimp. Tastes decent, but not so flavorful. When you order something Cajun you expect this strong " tangy, peppery, spiced" flavor. It was almost as if the sauce was watered down, and it looked very oily. I went through a lot of napkins for such little food. Then the sweet potato fries. Not so sweet and was more close to regular unsalted fries. So my first time wasn't all that great. Overall I'd say the food was more on the bland side. The service was good, aside from the issue with the beer. The style and decorating was cool. I noticed they kept the tables, chairs, and floor from when the place used to be a sushi restaurant. I was really exited to have a crawfish place so close to where I lived, but I would still rather drive out to BC. Hopefully they'll straighten things out. read more

My husband and I went today for the first time n we were amazed! We had the shrimp and craw fish with full house sauce, which is pretty much all the flavors together, and we were so satisfied. The shrimp is huge and cooked perfectly. We also had the oysters raw. I have to admit I want to go back right now just for those, they have a sort of sushi taste and are just too good. The only down side is that the shrimp need more sauce. Other than that, the staff could be more tentative. Beats driving to boiling crab. Their Cajun fries suck. This is the first time I have visited this place. Heard that I was comparable to boiling crab (which I absolutely love) so I thought I'd give it a shot. Drove her from menifee which wasn't too bad of a drive. The food was alright but their service here absolutely sucked. The waitress sat us down took our order a few minutes later, returned with our food and then was never to be seen again. No one came to the table to ask us how we were doing, how our meal tasted, or if we needed anything, mind you it's a Wednesday night and they weren't even busy. We even had to look for someone to bring us our check. I didn't even catch the waitresses name that served us because we only seen her face once. I honestly would never come here again. I would rather drive the hour and a half to San Diego to eat boiling crab where I know the service is going to be great. As someone who works in the customer service industry for four years this is by far the worst customer service I have ever got.
