Star Energy installed our windows 2 years ago. Lance, the owner, came out and told us Anlin Windows were the best and we listened to him. We'll, this is a lie. We had trouble with windows back in September. His office was not helpful. Told us we had to work with Anlin. Anlin is a joke We have been waiting since October to have them come out. They just canceled on us again. They were supposed to come this friday, March 27 but said their guy is sick so now moved to April. Definitely do not recommend Anlin or Star Energy who sold us terrible product! read more

I would leave zero starts if I could. So many problems and not sure where to start. Like another poster stated, they did not stay to make sure the units were running properly after install even after I alerted the installer Anthony and his two guys, one of which is his nephew I believe, that there was a loud mechanical scraping noise coming from one of the split system units in a bedroom. The problems consisted from there. Before the work got started the owner Lance came out to do a pitch in circa late Aug/early Sep of 2025. He looked at the area to hold both the new electric water heater and the condenser for the mini split system and said without a doubt it would work there. This was a month prior to the work beginning. Plenty of time for Anthony to come out and evaluate the worksite. He did not. In the meantime I was concerned about the mini split system and was having second thoughts so Lance came out again to give me a second pitch and when I said I thought I wanted to go with an electric heat pump box unit instead, he told me he would give me 5 mini split heads for the price of 4 "because it's the right thing to do." I wish I would have seen the salesman in him at that time, but I trusted him as a person. My mistake. After that his hands were washed and I have had very little meaningful contact with him since. He is the owner of the business. When Anthony arrived on the first date work was beginning he looked at the spot where the water heater and condenser were supposed to go and said right away that wasn't going to work. Frustrating because if Lance knew what he was talking about, and I asked him if I needed to do it, I could have got concrete work done ahead of time. Now my condenser sits on the side of my house in the front with no fence or security. I also had attic insulation done. I told Lance I wanted the old stuff removed since it had rat droppings and nests in there and since I was getting a roof put on as well, I wanted him to do the attic removal and spray in done after so as to remove any debris that may have fallen from the roofers. He did not add this to the contract, just like he did not add the 5th mini split to the 2nd contract. I had to tell Marie in their office about the additional unit and she confirmed with him. Because of my concern about the mini split system I overlooked the fact that the insulation removal was not included when I signed the ammended, or 2nd, contract. When a SMUD contractor came out to do a quality check because of my escalation to them to resolve the issues I was having with STAR Energy, Lance, Anthony and Marie, that is when I learned they didn't remove the old insulation. Maries' response in email was: I understand your disappointment; hindsight is certainly 20/20. Of note, the insulation removal would have significantly increased the contract amount, however it sounds like you would have preferred to have the removal completed with the additional cost. We do appreciate the feedback because it helps us to be more sensitive to our customers' needs and desires. This highly inconsiderate response to them not listening to my initial wants and needs for my project was after months of trying to arrange time for Anthony to come out to fix the original issue of the noise, the new issues that were arising with the units and the permit issues, including that the manufacturers warranty requirements and safe operating install required the mini split heads to have 4" clearance from a wall. They had one at about 3/4" and another at about 2 1/2" Do they even know what they are doing with these things? I could keep going but I think I am starting to paint a clear enough picture here. I will close this by saying why I am finally deciding to leave this review. I have been giving them time to remedy these issues and while my work schedule is difficult, they also have not made a concerted, strenuous effort to take care of me and these issues. In fact the communication seemed to slow way down after they got their check from me and their rebate money from SMUD. I feel that if they were truly trying to make this right they would have come in the evening, at 4:30 like I gave them the opportunity to multiple times, to diagnose and repair the issues. But as it stands they were scheduling around what was convenient for them. The last straw for me was earlier this evening I turned on the AC units and when I turned one off in a different bedroom, it started leaking water onto the floor from the bottom of the unit. At 10:30 at night. Who am I supposed to call? Now I am looking at possible water damage in my walls after months of telling them there are issues with these mini split units. I do not have confidence in STAR Energy at all and obviously would not recommend them to anyone and would advise you to find a different contractor. Mark G. read more

We got our entry door, side window and patio door replaced and they were super fast and efficient. Honestly I thought it was going to take 12 hours or something and boy I was wrong! A friend recommended them in part because of their accommodations and professionalism. My experience is nothing like his. I have been waiting 10 days for them to come back and fix the system. When they installed the splits they didn't stay to make sure that it was working. one room is ice cold, another is hot. Only one room is comfortable. They have scheduled to come fix it twice but not shown up nor called. A hit or miss company! read more

In the winter it kept the house insulted and now in the summer the inside of my home feels like I have air conditioning unit on while it's scorching hot outside. I was recommended to them by someone else who was recommended to me that didn't work in the area anymore. The gentlemen that went to my house for the estimate was super nice, I forgot his name but he was over 7 ft tall? He was so informative and wasn't trying to upset lol me on anything. He gave me the breakdown of pros and cons to each window type and also asked how long I would be in my house for so that I could make the best decision all around for myself. My windows had to be custom ordered and made, so it did take a month for them to come back and install them. I think that they may have been a third party company? Not sure. But regardless they did a great job and I loved the customer service. The pricing to me was shockingly reasonable. I have never had to get windows changed out, but all my friends were freaking me out with that I would have to pay. I would definitely recommend this place. I had Star Energy replace my old GE gas furnace and condenser with a new GE electric heat pump and condenser. The GE brand seems to hold up just as well as some of the more well known brands on the market for a fraction of the cost. The current rebates are huge if you change out your gas unit with an electric heat pump package. They even take care of obtaining the permit. Lance was very professional and answered all my questions. The installation went great and was done in a day and a half. They were even responsive when I asked them to come back and adjust the air flow coming out of the vents. I highly recommend Star Energy for your heating and air needs. read more

Lance and his crew installed two sets of panoramic doors for us. We were originally looking at options from nanawall to milgard moving wall systems and Lance made the great suggestion of looking into Panoramic Doors which offers significantly more features at prices that are more affordable than their competition. He even let us know to use his contractor discount to save even more money. The quote for installation came in significantly lower than other contractors we had received bids from and Lance was more than accommodating with our time line. He even had two of his crew members come out on very short notice so that they could receive our doors and move them into our garage. From consult to finish, everything went smoothly and we couldn't be happier with the whole experience (customer service, installation, and product). Everyone was friendly, respectful, and skilled. Due to the positive experience, we are considering putting in a third panoramic system next year. Without a doubt, we will be using Lance and his team again. read more

After a nightmare with a leaky wall and another contractor who didn't fix the leak after multiple tries we hired Brian and Salcedo Plastering to replace the windows and stucco. They coordinated all of the work together and did a great job working together. We've had a few major storms this year, and so far no leak! Brian's installation team was very friendly, always on time, and cleaned up after themselves. The windows that he recommended are very nice and feel like good quality. While there were a few minor bumps during the project, Brian was always very responsive to our requests and took care of them quickly. In March 2023 I decided to have my windows replaced. Making the appointment with Star Energy was easy. Bryan called me back right away to set the appt. And then the co-owner, Lance, called me a couple hours later to set the appointment. We had a quick chuckle about how they're both checking the appointment requests & at least we know they're "on it." Nope, they're not. Bryan with Star Energy was 1hr late to the appointment. To be fair, he called 10m before the appt time to say he was running late. But he called from a blocked number leaving a msg requesting I call him back to confirm I still want him to come, but didn't provide a number. I scrambled to find the office number & then let it go, stuff happens. (I mention the scramble because this was a weekday and though I mostly work from home, I had to stop working to figure out how to call him as I had blocked out time in my schedule for this 45m appointment.) When he arrived he was very knowledgable & polite. But I could tell he was in a rush and not taking good notes, I had to correct a lot of what he wrote. He also didn't take measurements, he was eyeballing. I don't have too many odd sized windows but it was still "interesting." Who eyeballs original 1970s aluminum windows? Who eyeballs the size of a picture window? Or a glider window over 6ft wide? Meh, maybe he's that good ?? It was a Wed or Thurs. He says he'll have my estimate ready in a couple days. That Friday night I decided I needed another estimate as I wasn't too sold on Bryan. I submitted a request on the Anlin website for a dealer to call me. On Sunday, Lance with Star Energy calls me to schedule an appt. I laughed and let it go to voicemail. He didn't recognize my name or address at all. (i have a unique name) By the end of 1week I had two other companies of out and return quotes and still nothing from Star Energy. Then I receive and email from the office manager, Regina (but from the email addy of someone named Kaitlin) saying verbatim "Bryan asked me to send this to you. His cell number is [...], if you have any questions." Included was an attachment of a "window spec sheet." It was basically his notes. Which still had errors on them. At this point I was shocked and responded that what I need from them is an estimate for materials & install on my windows. I detailed my concerns, and pointed out the errors that needed correction and requested the quote. I'm in the construction industry so I know how things should go. This was all the red flags. I never received a response from this company. Star Energy is only worth 1-star, and that's only for this information Bryan had on what makes a good window and rebates. Other than that, they were a waste of time. I had Northwest Exteriors replace all the windows [5 gliders, 2 double hung, 1 6ft tall picture] & (2) sliding doors in my home; and I paid for upgrades. Northwest was patient, clear, and very responsive. If i wouldn't have went with them I would've went with Superior Window out of Sac, the owner Dave was really good as well. Steer clear of Star Energy, it's just not worth it. They aren't organized. read more

We had several bids to replace our HVAC. I was impressed that Lance started at the price that I had to negotiate everyone else down to. He wouldn't go below that price, so there was absolutely no BS involved. He is a very nice person with lots of experience and integrity. In fact, when they had to move the install to the attic due to size constraints, Lance kept the job at the same price--even with all the extra work. We are pleased with the system design, which includes zoning dampers and multiple smart thermostats. Lance even talked us into a smaller size than we had before because he knew we didn't need the extra tonnage. We love the GE heat pump system. It is quiet and clean--particularly with the iWave ionizer. It is a better value than many well known high end brand names due to its capability to heat in low temperatures.The 18 SEER upgrade made SMUD happy enough for the rebate, which Star handled. Most importantly, our air quality has drastically improved. The Star Energy team is helpful and professional. Ray and the office staff are courteous and helpful. Anthony and his install crew worked hard and did a great job. He was a good communicator and kept us well informed of what was happening and how use our new system. Thanks Star Energy! read more

Our 35 year old house had old, damaged leaky windows. It was seriously leaking heat in the winter and cool in the summer (plus they were uuuuuglyyyy). Lance came over to our house and showed us the different window samples, looked at ours, took some measurements and after we chose our windows, frames and etc. worked up a quote very quickly. We got a few others, but Lance beat them handily in price. My friend had Lance install hers, and was very happy with the service he gave her. They did all the windows in one day, and replaced a couple window sills. It's all perfect! Our heating and cooling bill is lower and our house stays cool enough where we don't even have to have the AC on that much and way warmer in the winter. It was a pleasure to work with Bryan Fink and Star Energy. My project was more complicated than most. I was doing a remodel from the studs up and I was doing as an owner builder (yea so I didn't know much), however Bryan treated me with respect and candor during the entire process. I had hired previous subs that were terrible for other portions for the project and although, I came into the relationship with that bias, Bryan did not allow it deter his customer service or relationship. Bryan did incredible work with the hardi siding, Front door with sidelights, and Anderson double slider installation. Bryan prices were extremely fair (and trust me my budget was super tight like Pixley California tight) but Bryan came with a bid that was fair and included perks that saved me, like including in the bid the installation of front door, double slider, and back garage door. My project cost about 23k and he broke the install payments in a way a contractor is suppose to. 1k up front 5 k once material arrived ( I saw the invoice and materials were more than 5k) and the rest once completed. (not saying he will do this with you but if he trust you he may) Also whenever there were issues we talked about it and he seemed to genuinely care about the problem and try to resolve it in a way that was fair to me as much as to him. No threats of walking off the job if I didn't do it his way. Trust me I have gone through some terrible subs on this project, this is my dream home to start my family and I could not have picked a better siding/door/window installation crew to go with. Wait I forgot at one point in the bid my grading company broke three windows and Bryan could not finish siding instead of charging me a little more to come back to complete this little portion. He said he would work with us and he installed the three windows for basically the gas to drive his window guy to install it (and I live in Walnut Creek). So I am sure some of you are looking for negatives, I am attorney and a pessimist so here they are. Sounds too good to be true so you constantly looking for his angle? Thats about it.. Really I could say I found a couple of used tubes of caulking on the ground or something like that but it was kinda my fault because i didn't have a dumpster. Also Bryan agreed to take away his debris and when I told him I would he compensated me for it. Great company I should have hired him to install all my windows. Will hire again and refer! read more

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I am 100% satisfied with the job they did installing 19 windows and two sliding doors in my house, as well as replacing the siding surrounding some of the windows on one side of the house. I wanted high quality windows and I wanted the job done right-on time, with no additional work required and all the debris hauled away. The Anlin windows are absolutely beautiful and I continually get compliments on the high quality of the installation. They even managed to correct an installation issue on one of the sliders that had the whole door below floor level and brought two other windows up to code by installing larger windows. The crew was as professional as they come and the detail work surrounding the windows is impressive. I can't say enough how happy I am that I did not take the advice of well-meaning family and friends to buy from a big box store and hire a local handyman. That route probably would have been a bit cheaper, but nowhere near as nice! Again-the windows are beautiful inside and out.
