I was so excited to come try but was pretty disappointed. We got both lunch combos and were underwhelmed by both. The papaya salad lacked flavor, nothing too special about the soup nor the curry either. Our favorite item was probably their thai tea that comes with coconut ice cream (you get it free from yelp check-in). The service was also extremely slow - perhaps because it's still in the soft opening phase. Honestly nothing to rave about and not sure if it's worth the price I paid for "fine dining". I sincerely hope their quality improves or the chances of me returning is quite low. read more

We had an amazing experience for dinner at Star Leaf this week. We ordered a whole mix of items to share family style and enjoyed EVERYTHING- especially the Tom Yum soup, the shrimp cake skewers, and the fried rice. The service from our waitress, Marissa, was also fantastic along with delicious cocktails. She gave us perfect recommendations and cute stories alongside our smoked old fashioned drinks. This is a new restaurant on Colorado Blvd, opened a month ago. The decor is very inviting and warm. Service was attentive and well versed on the food. The menu is primarily based on Southeast Asian cuisine and they suggest family style. We started with the Siam Beach Club eggrolls, long thin crispy fried spring rolls with shrimp with a spicy mango relish. The avocado hummus was a special appetizer that evening, served with crispy rice crackers, it was refreshing and very different from guacamole. Malay Captain's curry with beef was delicious. It was like a fusion of panang and yellow curry, will order again. Longanisa mussels was a shout out to the Philippines, tasty broth with house made sausage. Banana leaf chicken had nice crispy skin. The Royal crown fried rice was seafood based with a topping of orange fish roe, a striking presentation. For dessert we had the sticky rice with mango and flan. The star of dessert was the flan. I came on a Sunday and Rachel, the hostess who greeted my party was super friendly. We were seated very quickly and greeted by a friendly server, Cameron. He was very attentive, coming to check up on us often. We ordered the Bakka Salmon in Thai Vinaigrette, Malay Captain's Curry w/ Chicken, Truffle Wok Seared Noodles, and the Star Leaf Appetizer Plate. My favorite was the Bakka Salmon, I loved the vinaigrette and it really completed the dish. I've been to Star Leaf twice and I would say the first time was better than the second. They changed the lunch combo up and it's only been a month or so since I went last. The lunch service started off good when we were one of 3 tables but our server ended up with about 6 or 7 tables and I could tell he was focusing on the two larger parties near us. Towards the end he didn't even bother filling our waters or even ask us about dessert. We did decide to order some dessert but the mango sticky rice wasn't worth the time or the money. Thai town will serve a bigger serving for a better price. Our group agreed with liked the Tom yum soup, the papaya salad and royal crown fried rice. The braised short rib was tender but had no flavor. Overall our experience was just okay. Oh and they validate at the nearby expensive lot for an hour with how long dessert took, it should be more. read more

So finally got an opportunity to try this place and I left feeling underwhelmed. First off, we sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice. The ambience was really nice and gave me Southeast Asian vibes. The drinks were actually very good, refreshing. We had the Starleaf Swizzle, Peacock Margarita and the Lychee Martini. I even got a Chang beer just to remember my time in Thailand. We started with the Tropical Mango Fish. The fish itself was moist and had good texture, the breading was crispy with good flavor. It came with a mango sauce that I feel was more sweet than spicy which I was hoping for. Overall the dish was okay. We shared the slow braised angus curry and royal crown fried rice. The braise angus curry was underwhelming and was disappointing. I feel it just lacked any sparkle and was a forgettable dish. Probably should have went with the Chilean sea bass. The royal crown fried rice which was one of their signature dishes was actually the best thing I ate there. I loved that the rice was not greasy, had good flavor and a good amount of sea food. Overall, I'd say it's a bit overpriced for what you are getting. I felt that I was paying more for presentation and ambience, than quality and taste. Honestly we both were like, we could've spent less at a local Asian restaurant and it would have been a much tastier dinner. Fun for a dress to impress the eyes more than the tastes buds. read more

We came for Dine LA and had a wonderful time with the servers and staff. They were attentive in providing recommendations and changes to the menu as some things, unfortunately, were unavailable (despite just starting the afternoon service). The place looks amazing. From the lighting to the booths, and their bar. I would highly recommend if you're searching for a nice date spot. Weekends they have magic acts by Vin Chee, contestant to Asia Got Talent. The group I was with had a great time with his performance and it definitely made the space livelier as you hear the reactions from others as he makes his way to each table. Food was also good. While some components may have a questionable higher price point, no doubt you are getting a treat. Captain's curry for instance with beef was 46 while the crying tiger with beef was +12? Highly recommend the soft shell crab. At the end of the night, while some of us didn't select the set menu for dineLA and so didn't have a dessert, they were kind enough to provide complimentary desserts as for those to not feel left out. My family and I went to go eat here yesterday for an early Mother's Day brunch & had a great time! We were greeted by the friendly Cameron who asked what we would like to drink. He gave great drink recommendations for my mom who wasn't too sure what to order. He's very attentive and kept checking in, if we needed anything -- super polite and funny. We ordered just enough food and highly recommend the Soft Shell Crab Curry, Royal Crown Fried Rice, Madame Noi's Pork Collar, Saigon Summer Spring Roll. Sadly, they ran out of the Banana Leaf Chicken, which probably meant it's super delicious. I'll be back for it though! The drinks were delicious -- highly recommend the Singapore Sling and Lychee Martini. The manager, Wichita, was really personable like Cameron, came around and introduced himself to us; he asked us and made sure that everything is okay & to let him know if there was anything we needed. He came to us towards the end of the meal to check in again. The inside decor is beautiful! They have a bar area, as well as booths and tables. There's also some little ponds with some goldfish or maybe koi? I can see why this restaurant has a consistent foot traffic, during its soft opening. What a delightful evening! The cocktails were delicious, and the bartenders ( Sanderson and Sebastian) were friendly, easy to talk to, and accommodating with special requests. Dinner was superb! I took my mom for here for lunch on Mother's Day. The restaurant was beautiful. Their Thai tea could be stronger in flavor in my opinion. It was a prix fixe menu that day and the food was decent. My only major complaint was the service. Cameron S. was our server. He barely came around to our table. I noticed he was very attentive to the tables with larger parties beside us and in front of us though, taking pictures for them and constantly making his rounds. He walked by our table numerous times and everytime he did, I thought he would at least ask how we were doing or if we needed anything, but that wasn't the case. One staff member came to our table asking if we had gotten our food and all I could think was, "Shouldn't our server, Cameron, be the one asking this question?" We also tried to get the attention of other staff members but they just basically ran past us. I get that it was a busy day, but they should try to help customers as much as they can. I'm a nurse and it's our culture in the workplace to help other patients even if they're not assigned to us...because in the end, they're all our patients. It was frustrating and we felt neglected. I also understand that Cameron S. may have gotten bigger tips from bigger parties, but he shouldn't forget or ignore the other tables in his section. Towards the end of our meal we ended up asking one of the staff helping out at the bar, right next to where we were sat, for boxes for our leftovers. We didn't get her name, but she was pleasant and did not hesitate to assist us immediately and asked us if we needed anything else. We ended up giving her separate tip just because we felt so appreciative. The food, the ambiance of the restaurant could be amazing...but if the service is lacking, people are less likely to recommend going there and/or coming back. I never complain and I don't recall ever having written a negative review, but for some reason, this experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

The scent of the spice and coconut is so unimaginable, it'll leave you craving for more. We enjoyed practically all of the dishes we ordered. Everything was full of flavor and not overbearing. It was probably the worst I've experienced in a while - cold and unfriendly staff - rushed service (some staff didn't even ask if we were done with the dishes, they just took them since they "looked" done); one staff looked so mad every time she brought out dishes, even when we said thank you; one staff literally threw napkins onto our table when we asked for more napkins. Again, food (royal fried rice, pineapple fried rice, curry, mango sticky rice) was 4/5 but some staff need to be trained better. Service 0/5. read more
