I called up and spoke to Alex and set up an appointment to move items. Texted him the information that he requested. When I called to confirm appt, I was told by Alex that he did not have the move scheduled and that he did not service the location where the items were to be picked up. Checked my phone and the number I had called was the same number all three times. Very upset and had to scramble to find another mover on such short notice. read more

I was scheduled to move with Star Masters at 5:30 PM on July 30th. I figured that was the last move of the day and anticipated some delay, but didn't figure that they would just not show up at all. The evening of the move, they called a couple times to say they were being delayed by some issue with an elevator. Seemed fine to me. But then the last I heard from them was around 8:30 PM when it seemed they were on their way (Alex asked me for my intersection and told me they'd move me even if it "took until 1 in the morning"). ...And then after that, nothing. I called and texted them probably a dozen times in the night and the next morning, with no response. I had to move the apartment the next day, with obligations in the evening and no plans to rent a truck or get friends to help. Luckily I managed to get another company to move us at the last minute. Clearly a lot of people have had fine moves with this crew. It's possible that this was an aberration, but this was so terribly unprofessional that I'd recommend against dealing with them at all - unless you want to be stuck in the worst possible moving situation. read more

These guys were awesome! Alex takes his job very seriously. His can-do attitude throughout the whole thing was fantastic. For further kudos read other reviews. The only thing I recommend though is that you're aware that it's on you to keep track of time and also direct them as to where do you want stuff to go. I didn't do that and ended up having to reshuffle stuff to other rooms. That's really not their fault but save yourself some pain and be vocal about where you want stuff to go. read more

I had to change my move date 48 hours before they were supposed to be moving me. Alex said "yeah no problem, we can change it to the next day." Alex and his crew of manimals (and they are just that) showed up and got right to work. They provided some wardrobes and packing pads/carpets and before I knew it, they had already loaded up the truck. Moving into the new place however, that was a bit of a challenge as the new landlord didn't want to hand over the keys. They were patient while everything was going on and once we got the keys, went right to work. They had another job they needed to head to and I felt bad because my landlord was holding them up from getting started. Alex and co were able to finish in plenty of time and he even offered to be a witness to what went down with the landlord if we needed him to since that delayed them moving my stuff. Communication was solid right from the beginning to the very end. Word to the wise: once they start ,they move very fast so have everything ready and know what you needs to happen. I had already done this so there was very little idle time. Everything was efficient, price was good, and the staff was all very friendly and accommodating to what I asked of them. Using them was a fast and easy process and I won't hesitate to recommend them to someone else. read more

Moving with Star Master Movers was the best (and easiest) decision I've made since I moved to Chicago. I had to move out of my place suddenly and Star Master Movers were flexible, helpful, affordable and FAST. The guys brought all of the tools necessary for a move (including the ever so awesome closet hanger boxes so I didn't need to take my clothes off the hanger). We were out of my third floor brownstone in Wicker Park and all moved into my new apartment in River North in 2 hours. Not only were the gentlemen so kind, helpful and caring but they worked their butt off to carry my stuff down three flights of stairs, outside, in freezing temperatures. I had no idea it could actually be easy to move (and I've done it twice a year for the past 5 years) this time was by far the easiest moving experience I've had. Using this "moving company" was one of the worst experiences of my life. It is not a company at all, it is a man and his son, so do not expect any sort of professionalism. The morning of my move they made me pay a 50% cash deposit because Alex told me the "company" was "under new management" and this was a "new requirement". He called me 30 minutes before my scheduled move appointment and told me that he could not rent the UHaul truck because he didn't have a license. As it was the last day of the month, there were no other movers available on such short notice, and so I used my ID to rent the truck. They proceeded to use this truck later in the day to move other people while the truck was still under my name. When they finally showed up to my apartment 2 hours late with the truck, Alex had a young child with them. While Alex and his son were in the alley packing the truck, the child told me that they "like to hang out in the moving truck and talk so it takes longer for them to move people so they can make more money". They also did not wrap any of my furniture. Alex and his son walked all over the furniture in their shoes while they rearranged items in the truck. I needed to have my couch professionally cleaned because it was so dirty. All in all, this was a truly traumatizing experience and they should never be used to move anything. read more

I have never written a bad review or reported anyone to the Better Business Bureau, but Alex and his son were so terrible I feel it's worth the trouble. Alex quoted me at 2 hours or $250 to move me from my 1 bedroom apartment with an elevator to a 3rd floor apartment with 2 men. I added a stop 4 blocks from my destination to just drop off a dresser (should only have added 20minutes at most). They ended up charging me $545 total as they took twice as long as the original estimate. The added time was because his 2 men were his young son and cousin who Alex spent a lot of the time I was paying for arguing with. At one point I could hear them swearing at each other in the alley for 10min without moving anything. I also bought them breakfast and tipped them well despite all of this. After they left, my handyman told me he heard them outside arguing and not doing anything for much longer AND I found they had broken my daybed. We called Alex several times over 3 weeks to resolve this. He kept making fake promises such as he would give some of our money back and get the day bed fixed for us at first. But he kept making excuses and delaying until he stopped answering our calls all together. I asked for his manager's phone number but he ignored me. He admitted that his son was a bad worker and would never use him again, but did nothing to make up for the extra $300 I paid (not to mention the $60 I tipped them not realizing they had broken my daybed and tried to hide it). I gave him every chance to resolve the issue as my friends recommended him so I wanted to give him a second chance. But the fact that he was dishonest and tried to hide the broken day bed backboard from me is unforgivable. I highly recommend NOT using them. I have also reported them to the Better Business Bureau as I feel I was seriously taken advantage of. read more

Blood stains on my furniture. Pros: They could book at the last minute and they were very quick. Cons: Blood stains on my furniture. They quickly packed up the few items I had. It was only a move for some furniture to my house. Two young men did the moving of the furniture. However they were moving at such an unnecessary frantic pace that they weren't careful to not scrape the bookcases. Apparently as they were moving one of them got badly cut and didn't stop to do anything about it because I had hand prints in blood on the headboard and 6 splatters of blood on the book cases. SIX. They had stacked the shelves so I didn't find this until I started to put things together. Now I have to find out how to remove blood. It only took them 45 minutes to move things but I had to pay for 2 hours. I feel that I deserve that hour of money back. read more

Alex is a joke. Instead of being a professional and having real employees working for him, he brought his son and nephew to help move my fiance into her new apartment (obviously to save himself money). They both had no idea what they were doing and ended up breaking some of the furniture and hiding the broken piece so that we wouldn't notice until after they left. In addition, he ended up charging over double what he had quoted even with the absolute joke of a moving staff he brought with him and after wasting at least an hour in total arguing with his son instead of moving the furniture. After we noticed the broken piece, we called Alex and I immediately realized how unprofessional he really is. He would not allow me to get a word in without getting confrontational and after about 20 minutes he finally agreed that it was his son's fault and that he would find someone to fix the broken furniture and pay for it. A week later I had still not heard back so I called again. He made up some BS about a grandpa being in the hospital in Texas and said he would 100% get the repair lined up and call me the next day. Of course he never called back and after a few more meaningless phone calls of him promising to get it fixed but never actually doing anything, he went completely silent and has not answered my calls or text for over 2 weeks. Honestly can't believe all of the positive reviews on Yelp. That is why we decided to use them and it made me realize that I will never base a decision off positive Yelp reviews again. This guy is an absolute joke! Do yourself a favor and find another mover unless you want to deal with an unprofessional idiot who makes moving about as stressful as it can possibly be. read more

The only reason this company gets one star is because I can't give them 0. I called a month in advance to secure a move date and time for 1pm on the 30th. The day of the move, he calls me, gives me some story, but says he will come at 5. At 530, I had not heard from him, I call him, and he says he's stuck in an alley and will be there shortly. At 630, still no sign, I call again, and it goes straight to his voicemail. Needless to say at 7pm, the day you are suppose to be out of your apartment, you better have lots of friends, thankfully I did, that came and helped us move. I used their service to move my things into a storage the movers they sent was fast they took my furniture down and moved everything out quickly I was extremely satisfied. In two weeks I used them again to move my things into my new house I requested the same movers but Alex and his son showed up they was 30 minutes late getting to me and it took them over an hour to load the stuff into the truck then I gave him specific directions to get to my house and he got lost for about 30 minutes. When he got to my house it took them a long time to unload the truck then he was acting like he couldn't assembly the furniture. After they left I noticed several items was missing. These guys made my weekend. I was so stressed after I lost my free help moving last minute, on a holiday weekend. I was stuck moving a heck of a lot of furniture with no truck or manpower lined up. Alex was not only the only one in a list of movers who answered on the Sunday of a holiday weekend but was able to squeeze me in for the move first thing the following morning. Unbelievable! They showed up slightly late (only about 15 minutes but I did get a call from Alex letting me know this; amazing communication on his part). They were ready to move and had me out of my old apartment and into my new one within an hour and a half and before the rain started. I can't say enough about these great movers. My movers fell through on the morning of my move. I called Alex and he told me he'd squeeze me in. He and his three man crew showed up on time, they moved incredibly fast up as they lugged everything up three flights of stairs. They were cautious not to break anything, and finished in less time than they estimated! My partner moved the same amount of stuff and his movers charged literally twice as much. At first I was worried because Alex and his crew were about an hour late for my appointment. There had been huge storms the night before, so apparently there was flooding all over the city. After speaking with Alex that morning, he assured me he was on his way. They showed up about and hour late, but his crew worked fast to move me out of my apartment before driving across Lincoln Park to then move my girlfriend out of her place. They busted their asses and got her place done in an hour, then moved both our things into our new place in another hour. They may not be a conventional moving company, but the price was right and his crew worked hard and fast. ADVICE: I would try to make sure you get the first appointment of the day. Unexpected delays happen when moving and with a single crew, like this group, a later appointment is going to end up getting the raw end of the stick. I had hired movers the previous week, most of my stuff in boxes as I called to confirm the movers I had hired. They forgot to add me to the schedule and I was told they could not come out til Monday, which made me very angry. Then I called Star Master Movers, since I had bookmarked their site as well. I should have called Star Master first. They arrived on time, were very polite, honest, and courteous. Since I was stressed out from moving they were joking with me as they moved my items with care through a very tight rear stairwell. Both the movers that came worked really well together and I believe I will not see such efficiency and professionalism to that degree until it is time to move again and I need to call Star Masters to lend me a few hands. They took all of my moving stress away. Their work is very excellent and nothing was broken or missing. I feel bad, one of the movers smashed his thumb moving the very last and largest piece while trying not to scratch my coat closet doors. They were reliable in a sense of getting to my place on time. They knew I had only until noon until my condo charges extra for a building engineer to stay. Luckily, the building engineer was cool enough to not charge me extra. The movers were an hour behind schedule. After they left is when I noticed there was a huge scratch on my master bed frame (an area of the frame that people see right as they walk into my bedroom). Also, all the scratches they left on the floor of my condo. How do I know they are new scratches? Because I just had the place cleaned from floor to ceiling two days before the move. So I inspected the place after the cleaners had finished and it was in excellent condition. I would recommend this moving company if you need someone fast. And that's about it. I also thought it would be much cheaper according to the quote I received over the phone, but ended up being $200 more than I expected. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, RUN AWAY FROM THIS BAD SERVICE AND SCAM! First of all, be very aware about these guys, they seam like ex-cons, terrible vibe, scary faces and mannerism if you are a single woman, please consider other options instead hiring those suspicious guys. Second, I called Alex 1 week before informing him I need one man, for just help me and my boyfriend to put all our 1 bedroom stuff in a Uhal truck. We didn't need anything else but just the labor. He offered 65 dollars, 1 guy, 2 hours. When his suspicious, employee came, he refused to do the job, even though, Alex decided to send 2 guy for doing the job under the same price. The guy, said he wouldn't carry my boxes, and wouldn't do the job and decided to call Alex. Alex came and yelled at me, saying that I didn't tell him it was a moving. Well, the name of his thug company is "Star Master Movers". He came with an attitude, bursted into my apartment and said it would do it in 1 hour with 1 guy. After that I decided not having he doing anything even for free. Me and my boyfriend had to do all the moving alone, as he stood us up. IT was a big hassle. Star Movers never in my life! read more

So where do I start. I called these movers about 2 weeks before my intended move date. We got my date and time booked about 2 days before my last day in my apartment. The day they were due to arrive they didn't show. I called the number and spoke to Alex. He denied ever speaking to me and said he didn't have an appointment for me. Only after I sent him a phone pic of the call log between him and I did he offer to move the time to the next day at 1 p.m. So the next day I'm scheduled to work but figure I'll be done by my evening shift for work. One p.m. comes and goes and I call him. They're stuck in traffic and will be there in half an hour. That time comes and goes. Still nothing. I call repeatedly. He finally answers to tell me they're lost. Movers who don't have gps? ok.... Another hour goes by and still nothing. He calls me to tell me he's about 2 miles away and will be there shortly and offers to give me a deal due to the fact at this point they're about 3 hours late and I'm now having to call into work for my shift. About 20 minutes later I get another call from a foreign number which I missed on account of being in the bathroom (no message was left so figured it was a misdial). Still they never show. His phone number is now going straight to voicemail. I call repeatedly and still never get through although eventually it is actually ringing. I call a friend of mine to ask for assistance as I figure at this point he's ignoring me. He gets through and Alex is super rude to him and claims he was at my apartment for 15 minutes waiting for me and I wasn't there. (I left for 2 minutes to go around the corner and get something to drink but I never received a call from him or the other mover- apparently no one has a working phone- telling me he was there and no offense I waited 3+ hours and technically another day and you can't wait more than 5 if you ever did show?) So anyway he tells my friend he will be there at 830 that night. When he gets super rude with my friend my friend asks him what time he was originally supposed to be there and he hangs up on my friend. I call him repeatedly, still no answer. I leave a voicemail asking him if he is still going to show at 830 or if I need to hire other movers. Still no response. 830 comes and goes and he never shows. I now have that night to move since I have to be out of my apartment by the next day. I now have to call emergency movers who are luckily able to squeeze me in at 3x the cost. If I could give negative stars I would. Not only did this experience completely stress me out but it his negligence in knowing how to make and keep an appointment cost me money. DON'T EVER USE THEM AS MOVERS UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO EITHER FORGET YOUR APPOINTMENT OR NEVER SHOW!!! read more

I never feel compelled to write reviews for restaurants or services, but my absolutely HORRIFIC experience with Alex made me feel obligated to warn everyone out there. While his prices may be competitive, don't buy into the scam. I set up my move with Alex directly almost a month in advance and even confirmed my appointment two more times (1 week and day before the move) before as there was no formal confirmation you would typically receive from a reputable moving service. Alex called me the morning of to confirm we are all set and then called me back shortly after to let me know he was having issues starting his truck. Given there was still two hours before my scheduled move and reserved freight elevator time, I had hoped he provide solutions given I had strict elevator times at both of my buildings. Instead, he had the audacity to ask me to rent a truck on his behalf and bring it back to my apartment because he did not have a commercial license due to the several tickets he had. Given my urgent situation, I began calling around several different local Penske's but there were few options available as it was close to end of month. As I began striking out on options, I called him back and asked him if he could have one of his fellow workers put the rental on their name and provide a license. For the next three hours, he proceeded to call me back several times saying he had found a truck and that he would arrive in 30 minutes. Every time I called back, he would lie about the ETA and make up a new excuse (no valid credit card to reserve truck, friend ditched on him, heavy traffic) as to why he did not have a truck yet. Finally after a few hours, he called and gave me his word that he was in the truck and on his way. I was lucky enough to find a time slot to use the freight elevator and started moving all my boxes and smaller items on my own to the load dock area. He eventually showed up with two other guys in a beat down jee. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and he tried to convince me we would be able to move several dressers, bed frames and a 1 bedroom worth of boxes/luggage in the jeep. I spent the most stressful 36 hours on my own doing shuttle runs between the two apartments to move all my smaller items in my own car. I eventually had to borrow a truck from a friend and ask for help to move my larger items the following day. DO NOT USE ALEX for your moves as he will let you down and make excuses. If he does show up, he will almost certainly scuff up all your things. Pay a little bit extra and find a more reliable service as the unreliability and stress of booking Starmasters is not worth it. read more

These guys saved the day! We had movers cancel on us day of the move and we called Alex totally frantic and exhausted. He sent a crew over the next morning at 8:00am. I was late because of traffic and they were patiently waiting for me. All 3 guys in the crew were nice people who were genuinely sorry to hear that we were cancelled on by someone else and assured they would make our move as smooth as possible. They were polite and professional throughout. They finished our move in less than 2 hours, carrying everything up to the 3rd floor. DO NOT USE. Booked these guys over a month out from my move in day. I not only confirmed the Friday before, but the morning of as well, for a 2pm appointment. Come 2:30, we still hadn't heard from them. Alex ignored our calls and texts for over two hours before calling back with an excuse that he packed his phone and briefcase in a box of a previous job? He wasn't even apologetic about the situation, clearly not understanding that my roommate and I took a day off work to then get screwed at 4pm on the first of the month with no movers, having to be out of our current place by 5pm. I do not recommend going to this poorly run company. Save yourself the trouble to pay the small extra amount for a dependable service that actually uses something as simple as a confirmation email. read more
