We are very rarely on this side of town but somehow found ourselves here twice in one week... once to dine at Bacchanalia, and the other to visit the nearby Humane Society facility. We were very excited to stumble upon Star Provisions at a time that it was actually open. My bf and I shared the FRENCH OMELET BAGUETTE (minus the brie) and I ordered a ham/cheese croissant to go. While we were satisfied by the food, the real stand-out to me was the shop. We bought a dozen eggs which come from their farm in North Georgia. We also picked up a bag of their farro piccolo which I believe is what they serve in the restaurant and is absolutely delicious. Also a few cheeses and a loaf of freshly baked ciabatta to take home. There were so many treasures to try that it was hard to choose! Probably a good thing that we don't live closer because I could see us returning very often. I stopped by yesterday around 5 p.m., only to learn that they closed the kitchen and cafe at 4 p.m. They are usually open until 6 p.m. I purchased two lemon meringues yesterday and they were pretty good. Today, for lunch, I ordered the shrimp po'boy which was delicious with lightly toasted bread. It came with chips and a drink. Very decorative, festive, cute open space. Loved all the Christmas decorations they had in the store! But more importantly, the food. We got kouign amann, regular croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and lemon cornmeal. kouign amann was to die for... one of the best pantries I've had... crispy and buttery on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Goodness gracious, this was heavenly. Croissant was good but no match for kouign amann. Chocolate chip cookie was buttery, tasted brown sugar buttery. Rich and tasty. Lemon cornmeal was a of cornmeal with lemon icing. It was good, but it's just really that. Cornmeal with lemon icing. If nothing else, I'd go back for kouign amann. Star Provisions is a casual quick service style restaurant sharing its kitchen with Bacchanalia. They also offer a selection of meats, cheeses, and jarred condiments as well as home decor items. The space is nice, modern, and open with a bit of a barn feel. There are a few two person tables available as well as larger shared tables. Parking is readily available in the attached free lot. The food was all good but didn't quite live up to the menu descriptions which made it a bit underwhelming. The chicken biscuit was good but the menu described it as having a hot honey sauce. Unfortunately this flavor didn't come through at all. Similarly, the chocolate croissant was made with a chocolate dough and only had a mild chocolate flavor. While the s'mores bar was flavorful, the balance was a bit off making it too sweet. Overall the food was definitely good and you should try it, but do temper your expectations when you read the menu. read more

We wanted a spot to post up while we did a little work and also grab a bite to eat at the same time. Our research led us to Star Provisions. It was our first time so we were excited to try it, especially since it smelled so good when you walked in. We ordered the granola and yogurt bowl, a chicken biscuit, and the Korean beef sandwich. The granola and yogurt bowl was nice, not too sweet, and the chicken biscuit was really good. My husband liked his sandwich but said the bread was almost too chewy and wished it had a bit more flavor, but he enjoyed it. Overall, we would definitely try the food again. The sore part of our experience was the customer service at the front counter. There were two employees working the front counter at the time of our visit. The guy seemed really quiet but made sure to greet us and answer our questions at least. However, the young woman did not greet us and seemed short and not very warm. As a woman, I never assume another woman has to do a show and dance of "politeness" to make others feel comfortable, but this is the hospitality industry. Being hospitable should be the bare minimum. My husband even went back to order something else with his coffee and asked if she had recommendations for pastries. She responded with a shrug, "I mean, it's whatever you like." She didn't bother asking any questions about his preference or try to suggest something. You work at a bakery. Someone asking you for recommendations is not outlandish. He ended up just getting his coffee and leaving it at that. Didn't want to spend anymore money. It just seemed we were not the type of customers she felt she needed provide above and beyond service to. The rest of the staff were nice, specifically the person who was going around delivering the food to each table. They were wearing a baseball cap. Based on the reviews it's obvious Star Provisions is a local favorite and customers rave about the service. It was just not our experience. This was January 23rd, 2024 at around 2pm. read more

Adorable spot to hit for a light breakfast/lunch or if you're having a sweet tooth. I had a delicious everything bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. I also ordered the Italian grinder to go for lunch at home later and it was right up my alley. My sister enjoyed her roast beef sandwich but agreed with me in saying that the majority of the menu items are over priced. The fries themselves were $7 and they my no means give you your money's worth in my opinion. But with that said they were still very good. Was going to order lunch here, but there were a LOT of flies in the food in the cases. When I mentioned in a low tone to the cashier about all of the flies, her response was, "oh, they're just little flies. They won't hurt you." That's not OK. We left. Although there may be insects elsewhere, you normally don't see them on the food they are selling from the case. Disappointing to see in what is normally an excellent location for lunch. read more

We came here for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty full. Lot of people were getting their orders to-go. We got lucky and there was only a short line when we arrived. Parking was easy in their private lot. This is an order and get a number type of place. The seating is long communal tables with a few smaller tables outside. This place has a great vibe and the clientele very diverse. Our food took some time to arrive, which was fine since you know it is made to order and handcrafted. That gave us time to wander around and look at the kitchen and food related items in the shop. I had the prosciutto sandwich and it was great. Soft crust and overly dense and moist white bread style loaf. The Croissant was very tough, lacked the flakiness and buttery flavor and was extremely chewy. Overpriced and inferior products. Quite possibly my favorite place for an upscale fast casual breakfast/lunch. In addition to an entire pastries case & food menu, Star Provisions is decorated with "home" items for sale, either sourced locally or from very unique brands. My friend from out of town always love this place. Now back to the food. The one thing you must get is the Chia Seed Pudding. It's one of the best I've ever had. Perfect consistency & coconut-y taste. the granola on it is also one of my favorites in town. You can also purchase it. They sell by weight. The other two items that I like are the everything bagel with smoked salmon (bagels are the best and they toast them witch is a bonus - you can ask for it deconstructed or they will go ahead and make it for you) & the fried chicken biscuit. This one honestly competes with chick fil a for me. The biscuit is larger but flatter than chick fil a, but I just love the salty sweet balance. Pro tip: ask for hot sauce on the side and some extra honey. I would say for the most part 60/70% of the menu items are there year around, but they do like to switch some items up seasonally. Why can't you find this place on Yelp when you are standing in the place? The address on Yelp doesn't match the location we visited on Howell Mill Road. Head scratcher. Waited in a long line for lunch with a group from work. The woman taking orders was not the friendliest. Outside of the long line, it looked like it was going out of business as many of the coolers, shelves were half empty. The drink selection is pretty narrow....and not your typical options (except Coke). On the flip side, she recommended the Korean BBQ sandwich ($10) - which I elected to go with....and it was very good. Seating is pretty much outdoors - which was perfect for the weather we had that day. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go here. Came here for breakfast this past Saturday. we got there around 9. It wasn't too crowded by any means, but there were some people there. They open at 8 on Saturday's. You order at the counter and then they give you a number and bring your food to you. They have a lovely pastry case with so many options! It was so hard to choose what to get! We both ordered the folded egg and cheese biscuit sandwiches. I got a side of strawberry jam with mine! I got a soy vanilla latte and my fiancé got a black coffee. We also got a cinnamon roll to munch on there, as well as chocolate chip bread and a black and white cookie to bring home for later. Our food came out rather quickly. The cinnamon roll was super tasty! Not your typical cinnamon roll. It reminded me more of a croissant dough. The cream cheese frosting was decadent. The biscuit Sammie's were pretty good too. I wasn't a huge fan of the eggs. The biscuit was tasty and I like the jam. The chocolate chip bread was so good!! And the cookie was also delicious. A good place to come for breakfast. I don't think so, honey. Look, aside from the over-priced, under-delivered menu, There's a lack of social conscious when it comes to dietary restrictions. And I get it-not everyone has food allergies like dairy, eggs (and yes folks, dairy and eggs ARE IN FACT TWO DIFFERENT ALLERGIES), beef, pork, etc... But the failure to provide substitutions and instead omitting the Cream cheese from an overpriced salmon bagel just isn't going to cut the mustard. For no apparent reason the plant based burger was unavailable. THIS is unacceptable. While it was a "Fresh" bagel and also some diced beets, I spent $20 for small appetizer portions. This offends me. I also would strongly discourage the management from bleaching the indoor seating; this is very much an unappetizing turnoff. And you customers sitting outside on the bench had better share the seating- quit acting like selfish pricks. read more

Hadn't been in ages and didn't know about the construction/expansion/what-have-you going on. Didn't dampen my enjoyment of my sandwich a bit, though! My beloved hadn't been and it was a sandwich kind of day. I went with the prosciutto - and had them press it, yum- with cheddar added to the Parm and sweet butter this simple sandwich consists of; he went for the Cuban. There could have been a little more meat in both sandwiches but they were great. I love Zapps too so I had to have chips (note- they have the original plain and also weird flavors for you adventurous types!). I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time, but I always tended to forget about it since it's tucked away on it's own in the Westside Provisions area. I finally tried it out for lunch and I was impressed! I went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no crowd whatsoever. However, it seemed that they had a busy day earlier as they were already out of most breads for purchase. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and then took a seat in their dining area inside of the store. Since it is a store that sells many kitchen items, I was surrounded by many interesting plates, placemats, and other trinkets for purchase. I got my sandwich fairly quickly and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful red hue of the meat. The meat was indeed very tasty and they didn't skimp on it either for the sandwich. The bread roll, which seemed rather regular at first complemented the sandwich very well along with the sauce. Overall I would recommend this place for their fresh deli meat and good selection of sandwiches on their menu. Price wise was also good, with most sandwiches within the range of $9-13. The meat used to be freshly roasted (ex. Their turkey sandwich) - now it's sliced deli meat. Their sandwiches used to be filled with wonderful fresh ingredients - now- what little you get is tired narly overcooked, thinly sliced bites of nuthin. AND. It's more expensive than ever. In this review update for Star Provisions, I'm covering a special sandwich I hadn't yet reviewed, a new sandwich I've tried (new to me), as well as a few non-sandwich items. Please refer to my original review for more general thoughts on the business. I still think this place makes some of the best sandwiches in Atlanta and over the years it's become a regular fixture on my rotation due to its close proximity to where I live. The $11.95 clam roll special should be a regular fixture on the menu. I see no good reason why it shouldn't be. Everyone who's tried it loves it. It's similar to the shop's popular shrimp po' boy, except instead of shrimp, the sandwich is loaded with delicious morsels of fried clams. It also features a rather flavorful lemon caper remoulade, which can be considered like a Cajun mayonnaise. If you're looking for a change from regular best sellers such as the prosciutto or Reuben sandwiches, order a clam roll. Hopefully, it's still around by the time you read this review. The sandwich menu has expanded slightly (now over a dozen sandwiches including Korean BBQ beef) and some prices have changed since my previous, years-old review. Examples include the bahn [sic] mi sandwich price reduction from $13.95 to $10.95 (still expensive compared to a "regular" banh mi) and the Reuben going up a dollar to $10.95. The $9.95 catfish sandwich is excellent. The catfish filets are fried to order and the sandwiches come with crunchy coleslaw, a chili lemon vinaigrette, and mayo inside a toothsome black pepper roll. Every bite of this Cajun/Southern-type sandwich is delicious and gratifying. If you like fried catfish and slaw, I highly recommend it. A non-sandwich dish worth trying out is the filling $5.95 savory tart. These, along with foods such as frittatas and various stuffed breads (e.g. butternut squash stuffed bread, salumi stuffed bread), are baked earlier in the day and are sitting inside a glass display case on the Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams side of the shop. A single serving of the savory tart is good enough to be a meal all its own. It sports a crispy, appetizing outer crust with a warm, soft, and satisfying interior. This is one I could order again and again. The $3.95 frittata isn't bad and works well as a snack or late breakfast item. It's made with broccoli, onions, capers, goat cheese, Parmesan, eggs, cream, salt, and pepper. It's eggy, smooth, and rich, much like a quiche, but with no hard or crusty exterior. To complement your meal, grab one of Star Provisions' tasty pre-packaged salads/sides to go. They're located in the fridge to the right of the sandwich ordering counter. The roasted potatoes with garlic and capers is pretty good as are the roasted and marinated beets. The latter are fresh and flavorful. This fridge also contains packages of housemade chicken pot pie and lasagna, ready for baking at your home. If you can resist Jeni's next door, consider getting a slice of one of Star Provisions' cakes such as their apple bundt cake, lemon poppy seed pound cake, or pecan "sticky buns." They've got a nice, though limited, selection of cookies too. read more

I don't usually write reviews on places that everyone loves, but I feel like I have to give a shout out to the Korean BBQ Beef sandwich. It was so perfect that I gobbled it up in about 5 minutes (I'm not exaggerating), and a woman saw me doing my "good food happy dance." And I'm not embarrassed about that at all. The Korean BBQ Beef sandwich is thinly sliced beef, kimchi, and other items (like cilantro and cucumber) on a hoagie roll. It wasn't overly saucy or wet, and the flavors were amazing. Every ingredient was able to shine - the smoky flavor of the beef, the spiciness of the kimchi and the slightly pickled flavor of the cucumbers were all there. The textures were dead on too - I love a crunch and the crunch of the veggies was perfect. Honestly, this sandwich was a party in my mouth. I also bought a brownie (I know they are boring but I love them), and a caramel chocolate bar. The brownie was perfect - crunchy on the edges with a moist, fudge cake. The caramel bar is a whole new level to cookie caramel deliciousness. If you like Twix candy bars, you're gonna love this because the caramel bar is a Twix for adults. It's a three layer bar of shortbread cookie, chocolate and caramel, and it's wonderful. I was able to browse the random household goodies and there are a lot of great things, but you'd better have some serious cheddar in your bank account because Star Provisions is not Ikea. Some things I would have purchased if I thought it was worth the cost. Except for the horrible pigeons that were on display on the eating tables (see picture.) No price would make me buy those; I wouldn't even take them for free. Parking was easy because I arrived slightly before the lunch time rush. But the parking lot is a good size, even for the number of businesses. I can't wait to come back and try another sandwich. I was with friends and every sandwich I saw looked good, but really, the Korean BBQ Beef sandwich is effing fabulous. (I hope you know what effing means.) read more

Oh, the hype. I have been DYING to try Star Provisions for the longest time, and we decided to stop here for a late lunch early dinner one afternoon after a brewery stop. I've heard so much about their sandwiches and I was excited to give them a try. I noticed it's like a mini market inside the shop. Adorable! We headed to the sandwich shop and ordered our sandwiches before picking a table outside to sit at. They let our friend bring her dog, too. The menu wasn't big but I knew right away that I wanted the Shrimp Po-Boy. The pictures I've seen on Yelp look to-die-for. Once I ordered, I took my number and ambled outside, where I noticed the Star Provisions coffee shop - I made a mental note to stop by after my sandwich. The sandwich wasn't bad. It wasn't MIND-blowing, as the pictures had suggested from a single glance. However, it was still a tasty 'wich. I ordered my soy dirty chai from the sweetest barista in the coffee shop. He told me he is the only barista at the shop, and works everyday (Monday-Saturday) a single full day's shift, because you don't share what you love. I get it, I can be territorial, too. Unfortunately, my soy dirty chai was not drinkable. It had a sour taste to it and just wasn't good. I don't know if it was the soy, the chai or the espresso, but if I can ever get that taste out of my mouth, I might come back and just get a black coffee next time.
