I have been going to Star Salon for years for my hair cut, perm and coloring. No one can do a better job for me as I have fine and thin hair. My little girl has her first haircut by Ling when she was 2 years old. She is now 4 years old. She will not let anyone cut her hair except Ling (the owner). My husband goes to Ling too for his hair cut every three months. I would highly recommend Star Salon as Ling is doing such a good job for everyone in my family. read more

Ling cuts my hair for a few years. I love the hair work she has done for me. That is why I always drive over from Palo Alto to Fremont for just a hair cut. And the price is on the low end and the hair cut is in a great quality. Ling is very friendly and very professional about hair cut. I highly recommend her. read more

I found this salon on yelp. After reading all the reviews I decided to give it a try. The person who cut my hair was the owner and it was horrible! I just had to write this review and let other people know about this. I clearly explained to her how I want my haircut. I only needed a trim which is about 1 inch off the most. She said ok and then she chopped off 5 inches! My bangs also look awful. Now I look like a mushroom with all the uneven layers. I have to wear a hat everyday now. Walked in on 7/5/2010. haircut was$20 (short, woman) , hair color $55 I had Vivian for stylist. Oh~Vivian(aka Wen Yan)...that mouth of hers. on the scale of 5 stars(the best): ***Service*** 0 star First of all she's a racist. She doesn't speak English very well so I spoke Mandarin to her since i thought it would be easier for her to understand. She started to chat right after we started the session. I kept rambling on her old customers, her son, her job ...etc. And than she asked me where I am from. "OH~you're from OOOO?!! I thought you're from China because you have black hair~" Then she asked me what city I am from. and she said "OOOO?!! a high tech area....so why are you so tacky!??" WOW~ wut a good way to start . And then she just kept prying on and on, asking a whole bunch of questions like where do u live, do u live with your parents, who do u live with, do u have any relatives here.....blahblahblah....like I am her new best friend. And I told her about Jimmy from Shing Hair Salon thinned out too much hair from previous haircut. And she said:" he doesn't care because you don't look rich" ................ ***Hair Cut*** 1 stars Although Vivian is such a (beep), she cuts average-to-good hair. She's experienced, u can tell. But there still are uneven edges on both sides of my hair. But she gave me a clean cut at the front. She did not fix the uneven hair on the back as I asked her to. Maybe they were really too short even to cut.... She kept talking about how my black hair color is outdated and kept convince me to get it color in the salon. I told her that i might color it by myself, and she said:"OH? Don't you fuck up your hair and come back ask for my help!!" I just hate this woman's attitude. She was loud, rude and annoying. Her boss, the salon owner, a nice soft-spoken lady, was also cutting hair next to her. and her boss has black hair....I don't know why she is even hired.... She was talking to herself most of the time....since i just gave up to respond to any of her commends... She even CURSED at me in her native language, Taiwanese, in five or six sentences....... ***Hair Color***0 star Naive me, I was convinced by her to get my hair color by her. Vivian suggested "the most high fashion color of the season"---reddish gold. The hair dye looks pinkish red. She spread the dye on my hair really unevenly and i waited for 40 min to develop. It took a long time during the wash. And Vivian added something to my hair ( i couldn't see what that was cuz i was lying on the bench) and she rubbed it against my scalp vigorously that it started to sting. So right away i asked her "uh..... what are u putting onto my hair now?" and Vivian YELLED AT ME!! "CAN YOU BE QUIET!!!????" ..... after an awkward 10 seconds of silence, she told me that she's putting "hair treatment creme" on my hair. But it turned out to be BLEACH!!!!! I took a good look at my hair in both front and back mirrors after i went home.... the top part of my hair near the scalp is red.....while the rest is dark brown...... Reddish gold my ass...... ***Overall**** 0 star The rating on the top should be ZERO, 0, nada!!! If you want to get a mediocre haircut, mess up your hair color, get insulted, get yelled at, get cursed at, or waste money, go to Star Salon and find this Asian woman with pinkish red pixie hair cut named Vivian!!! The people here are great, and its an incredibly friendly and clean atmosphere.

I'm not one to complain about my hair, but I had a pretty bad haircut here. I wanted to get some layers put in my thick hair and some bangs. I ended up with a horrible shag in which my thick hair was hacked into choppy layers all over. It definitely was not what I asked for nor was it anything like the picture I brought in. I'm okay with some improvisation when I get a haircut, but my hair actually looks unhealthy and thinned out now. I was trying to grow out my hair, but this haircut looks so bad on me that I might just get it cut into a bob until I can salvage the layers. The lady spent a lot of time on my hair, so I appreciate that. But I don't recommend this place for anyone with a full head of hair (unless you are looking to lose most of it). read more

Not satisfied with a recent visit. The owner/ stylist (if only she care a bit about the style created!) was short-handed on this last visit and as soon as the next customer showed up, she wrapped up my haircut. Needless to say it turn out bad - already feel in need of another cut today - few days after the cut. Honestly there are pros and cons to this place. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT HAVE YOUR HAIR CUT BY LING!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend Vivian as she does a magnificent job and has a very unique perspective. After reading all the good reviews I went here a couple days ago. The owner Ling was very sweet. She even waited for me when I called her fifteen minutes before closing (I had had a crazy busy and tiring day) and went for a color n cut.She is just a very warm and friendly person.She did a nice job on the color.When she started on the trim,I felt those dreaded texturizing scissors (always end up with ugly, dry ends),so I asked her not to use them and she stopped.She said it would work when done properly but when I told her how many times other salons(high-end and not so high-end) have messed up my hair with them, she never pushed me.That being said I am not too happy with my cut as it turned out exactly the way I told her I didn't want it to be. But she said maybe it was because she didn't use the texturizing scissors. Anyway she gave me some tips on straightening treatments which sounded good. I would recommend her to anyone. read more
