The service was OK, but they asked for a tip before providing any. That's always off putting. Especially when I had to change out the coffee carafe to get my own cup of coffee. That said, the coffee was nothing special. It was cool to see the roasting facility through the glass in the dining area. Now let's talk about the breakfast. My husband had the eggs Benedict and it was OK. I ordered the West Coast Hash and eggs and it wasn't OK. My over medium eggs were microwave rubber. Moved like silly putty. The hash was 99% potatoes and microscopic squares of ham and chopped dried bacon. The meal was very unpleasant. The best part of the hash were the diced jalapeños. The pastries are mostly light and mildly sweet, which I personally enjoy because I'm not much of a heavy, sugar-bomb style baked goods. If you like delicate flavors, this place hits. I just stick to the food now but I'm never disappointed with food. They have plenty of options to choose from (see my photos) There are even whole cakes, sandwiches, and drinks. About the staff, I've never had any bad experiences with them. They're pretty chill and quick to ring everything up. :) There's some indoor tables and chairs and also some outside. I love the honey dew, taro and strawberry milk breads. They have a cream inside and the bread is sooo soft.

I an a US Navy brownwater sailor. We drink coffee that tastes like coffee. No additives. None. Not even cream or (gasp) sugar. So when I told the barista [HA! The person who pours coffee into a cup] that i wanted a cup of coffee black I got this sort of deer in the headlights look. What? ...I'm sure she was thinking... no Madagascar cinnamon? no foaming goop? no stale crouton crumbs? no pumpkin pie spice? Ummmm seriously? People want their coffee to taste like pumpkin? Yikes. No Miss... just a cuppa Joe. Just like my first heart throb, Anna Mae Bullock....strong and black. And I have to say, insomnia delivered. Not a bad cup of coffee at all. Although I didn't really want to hang out there since it appeared that I had zero in common with anyone I saw there... hogging the comfortable looking chairs. So I had it in a paper cup, to go. Now I have a "thing" about drinking coffee from a large, ceramic mug.... I loathe tasting paper in my coffee and yes I can tell it's in a paper cup even blindfolded. but I digress. They did have a whole display area of decadent looking pastries and not the tiny, overpriced, bogus looking stuff you see at Starbucks. Not that i would ever go into a Starbucks even to use the rest room. While running errands on the morning of the Fourth of July, my cousin, my niece, and I popped in for a much needed caffeine boost. The atmosphere was calm, cozy, and inviting. It was the perfect place to catch up with friends or settle in with a laptop to get some work done. I ordered the Black Forest latte, and it exceeded my expectations. It was well balanced, not overly sweet or rich, and truly captured the flavors of a classic Black Forest cake. The service was quick, welcoming, and friendly, making the experience even better. Insomnia Coffee has definitely earned a spot on my list of must visit stops whenever I'm back in the area!

My favorite is of course in France, second is Bakery Noveau in Seattle. The third best, in my wife and my taste buds have been La Provence and Petite Provence. My daughter and I asked if they could make a blended drink and she very grumpily said if you want it blended I will have to go was dishes because I don't have any clean blenders. That was fine we were still deciding. We asked her for a recommendation and she was like " I don't like any of our coffee, it is too sweet." At that point she lost me at too sweet! Who says that anyways? Her attitude was unfortunate and I was going to purchase 3 drinks. I left without buying anything.
