    Where'd the cold foam go?
    Jonathan K.

I'm writing this review for some constructive criticism, because I want them to be better. One of my favorite things at Starbucks are their cold foam cold brew coffee's. Pumpkin is to die for, and I know Irish Cream is on the way (a friendly bird told me) and I cannot wait. Since this new drive through opened, the staff has been extremely friendly, the drive through quick, and the location very nice and clean. However, three times now, this location can't seem to make a sweet cream cold foam cold brew correctly. Or, perhaps they are making it correctly and the other locations in Anthem are making it incorrectly, but if that's the case then the correct way is not so good. What do I mean? So, every other Starbucks that has served me a sweet cream cold foam of various flavors (pumpkin, salted, vanilla, etc.) it has come out the same way. Luxurious foam on top with the sweat cream slowly and gracefully falling through the cold brew. The foam has a hint of sweetness, lasts throughout the entire beverage experience, and by the end the cold brew almost turns into a latte since it eventually mixes enough with the sweet cream cold foam. The experience is amazing, a real treat. However, each version I've received from this location has been the same. Very light foam on top with almost zero flavor, and none of that rich creaminess slowly mixing with the coffee. Three sips and 5 minutes later, the foam just fizzles away (see picture). This last time through, I actually mentioned that it looks like they keep forgetting to add the sweet cream (my opinion), however the answer I got from the friendly staff (no complaints about the staff) is that the sweet cream is in the cold foam. So, Starbucks, I don't know what is going wrong (or wrongly right) at this location. If this is the way its supposed to be served, then the drink needs some redesign. Though I likely suspect that since this is a brand-new location, the staff may just need to be taught how to make one correctly. Or go visit the sister store on Anthem Way and have them teach you to make it their way (it's amazing). Or check out the Fry's or Safeway Starbucks, all these locations make it consistently the same way, and it's delicious every time.

Expresso shot, mocha frap with almond milk and whip, iced coffee, and strawberry açai with black tea and light ice.

They serve Thrifty ice cream, which if you aren't familiar, it's delightful because it's thoughtfully made. It can be kind of hard to find outside of California so lucky Anthem, AZ now has a place for it. My daughter got the coconut pineapple and I got the Rocky Road. Both were delicious! I also got a chai drink and it was really smooth and flavorful. I did feel bad when we got there because had a really large group and it was really just one employee working, but she got everyone taken care of as fast as she could. Also, the bathroom in the back, under what looks like an entrance to a mine. We weren't sure and were going to go back to the escape room to go but ventured back and discovered it there.

Ironically it's only been open about a month from what I can tell. First impression unfortunately was it was very hard to see the actual storefront a there's no real signage in front or near the street to catch your eye. I obviously knew hat I a looking for with the address, but for a passer by this would definitely be a miss. The parking lot is fairly small and shared with other businesses. I'd definitely recommend some signs or flags of some sort to draw in the local traffic. Once inside the location is small. There is a small seating area, but it a full today. No biggie as I needed to get back to my side of town soon. I was greeted fairly soon by the lone worker who seemed a bit overwhelmed with door dash orders and the walk in traffic. He did his best to be quick and let me know there was one order in front of me. This gave me time to look over the menu. It very simple, not very large and does not include cold brew as an option or a huge fancy latte choice. They offer energy drinks, some tea and milk shake etc. no pod besides a few Pastries . If you are a lover of Thrifty ice cream they have many great options for scoops, specialty milkshakes and such. I wish I couldn't tried some today, but I thought I'd be pushing it since I ordered two drinks. This is something I like to do when I go somewhere new to get feel for the drinks. Today I went for a basic vanilla latte iced and a caramel macchiato. Prices were good. The employee was too busy to really chat and I didn't get a chance to ask what beans they used nor did I se any. I thought I saw somewhere they import them, but again I don't know from where. My drinks were mad pretty quick. The vanilla latte taste great and I enjoyed it. The caramel macchiato I was on the fence for a couple reasons. One of those being presentation. It did not look anything like macchiato, lacked caramel from what I could tell and what I could see was more outside the cup than in. The flavor was still pretty good and I could taste the coffee pretty well. I think I'll give it some more time before coming to order coffee again. Id say the ice cream is definitely the popular items. I love that they are giving the scooping ice cream vibe for families to enjoy. It's one of my favorite memories a a kid going into the actual Thrifty Store (yes it existed like a Walgreens) and getting scoops after school with my dad when he could get off a little early. I'd say it's a solid 3/4 stars now while it gets the kinks out. Definite potential. Support local and help the place get on the map.
