I am very impressed with the hospitality that I received from Noelle and Kacie at this Balboa Ave x Clairemont Drive location. I am not a big coffee drinker myself, but met up with my business partner at this location several times and am seriously considering becoming a regular. Noelle is very kind and professional. She seems to have her system down. I bet corporate loves the way she handles the store. Kacie is an absolute sweetheart. She has excellent social skills. I observed her with coworkers and people in the drive through. She even chatted with me for a few minutes during her break. Unbelievable service from the two of them. With all the heat the Starbucks brand has been receiving Corporate needs to add a bonus to their pay checks. I have been a regular customer at this location for the past several years, visiting on a consistent basis. While it is not located directly off the highway, it is conveniently situated off Balboa Avenue at the corner of Clairemont. The establishment experiences high traffic, largely due to the three nearby schools that bring in both the before- and after-school crowds. Despite the heavy volume of customers, the staff consistently provides quick/ prompt service while also maintaining accuracy with orders. I dont believe ive ever had my order wrong! The only bad thing is no longer ordering water on the app. Recently, this location has seen a noticeable increase in coffee traffic following the closure of two nearby stores. This has resulted in longer wait times, sometimes approximately 5-10 minutes beyond my usual pick-up window, even for pre-ordered items through the app and I ipt to pickup inside as drive thru wrapped around. The staff was courteous and transparent in explaining the situation, which I appreciated, and made complete sense. Understanding the circumstances, I have simply adjusted my routine by arriving a bit earlier to accommodate the added traffic. Despite the increased demand, the interior remains welcoming and well maintained. Additionally, the restrooms are kept clean and access-controlled with a code, ensuring they remain available for customer use only. My son loves the cake pops and cheese Danish. We are anxiously awaiting the new November menu drinks!!! My boyfriend and I have been coming to this Starbucks once a week for about a year now since we do our laundry right next door. Pro: you can almost find get table or seat. Cons: the customer service needs some major help. As I've said I go to this Starbucks pretty frequently and more often than not something is wrong with my order lately. Most recently (I'd say the last 6 times) I'll order a hot tea & something for my boyfriend, I'll get my drink, but need to remind them about his. I wait about 10 or 15 minutes until I ask and they always act surprised and had no idea about the order. You charged me for the drink so I know that you know. When ordering I have had to stand around for a minute or two so that the employees can finish their personal conversation. I have decided I'm done spending my money here and won't be returning. I made a quick stop at this Starbucks for some regular oatmeal with brown sugar, mixed nuts, and dried berries, and raisins. For my morning kick, I had a Grande Cafe Misto made from a medium roast. After letting the oatmeal sit for a couple of minutes in its container I added the packaged goods. I like this part because it allows one to control the amount of brown sugar that goes into the oatmeal. After I mix all the ingredients, I gave it a go, the oatmeal was quite good. The hot did what it was suppose to do and cooked the oatmeal well, the mix nuts were crunchy and tasty, and dried berries and raisins were sweet with a bit of a chew. The cafe misto was very good. The hot steamed milk gave the coffee a mild creaminess and made the Pike Place Coffee smooth body even smoother. One thing I like about cafe misto is that it's prepared with hot coffee on hot milk, so you get one hot coffee. Service okay. I thought the girl at the counter was a little impatient and could of been a little friendlier, but the girl at the order pick up counter was just grand. read more

Starbucks are a dime a dozen but some can stand out. Been to this location a few times and it is always clean, has an open feel, tall ceilings, big windows. It probably gets busy when the HS down the street is in session but weekends and weekdays are pretty quiet. There can be a few homeless people hanging outside or inside charging phones etc. but nothing like the Starbucks in Hillcrest! It also has a drive through which is busy but that doesn't seem to affect the speed of making drinks for customers who walk in. read more

Went to this Starbucks for my normal drink that came out to be $5.70. I paid with Apple pay and after it went through I looked at the screen to realize the total was $10.70. I asked the LADY at the window and she IMMEDIATELY had the receipt ready to prove me wrong and say that it was $5.70. I glanced at it and drove off to later look at it and realize she tipped herself the max tip of $5. I never had the option to tip which I normally do so that should have been the first red flag. This was the worst experience. They always have a long line in the drive thru so I ordered my drink before leaving my house. I get there after a 5 minute drive and have to wait for 10 minutes at the counter. While I'm waiting I ask the cashier how I can change the settings in the app to make my beverage iced and not hot, in which they stated there is no way and it will always come hot.. Forgot to ask for an extra shot of espresso in my standard caramel macchiato, and the employee was really nice and hooked me up for free (I don't think I'm supposed to tell anyone this but oh well sorry if you get fired for being super nice). Tables are spacious, which makes it really nice to come and sprawl all your work related things on the tables. What's also great is that the tables are all cleaned regularly by the staff members, so there's no need to worry about your laptop or bags or notebooks getting dirty. There are two gender-neutral restrooms in the establishment that are available for use. The restrooms are also cleaned regularly and are very nice facilities. Maybe I am too hard on Starbucks, although I have visited the majority of their locations throughout the beach communities. Perhaps I need to cut them some slack but this morning I tried to go through this Clairemont r drive-thru and even at 10:00 a.m., there were lots of cars in line. Okay-I get it-an intersection of two major streets and Clairemont High School is across the way. So I pulled into the one open parking spot and trudged in. Now this is a SPACIOUS Starbucks! Lotsa room for lounging and even a cozy couch and table area in a circular set-up for prayer groups and what not to get a little extra privacy. Why Oh Why, can't those La Jolla Starbucks take a gander to this and give those rich La Jollans more room to attack their Macs with? This Starbucks is also pretty and airy. There are patterned white and tan tiles on the wall behind the cashiers. The ceilings are high and I think I even recall seeing sky-lights! Awesome! However, with all the people running around behind the counter looking busy, they had ONE VERY SLOW cashier who took forever. Granted-she seemed sweet and pleasant, BUT if those employees drank Starbucks coffee like I do, they would sure buzz around a heck of a lot faster. When I went to throw a raw sugar and some cream in, the condiments area was awash in trash, dirty napkins, and yucky kleenex. It over-flowed from the small stainless steel inner trash receptacle. Not wanting them to get in trouble with the health dept., I went over and told the barista and she said they would get right on it. Here is what I think: this Starbucks is always going to be busy that is just a given- because of it's location on that crazy corner. It really is a nice place to go to meet someone for coffee or study in peace because of it's roominess and contemplative atmosphere. I have been coming to the Starbucks 3 to 4 times a week since they opened. I have to say that during the hours when people normally wet coffee like from 6 AM to 9:30 AM there will generally be a line at the drive-through that will take 30 to 35 minutes to get through. You may think that you can bypass the line by going inside but that is even worse because their priority is the drive-through why the drive-through isn't moving? I have no idea because what I see is a lot of people standing around doing a whole lot of nothing inside and maybe two of them running around like crazy. Management needs to reevaluate the employees positions and where they could be most useful because waiting in any drive-through line for more than 15 minutes is absolutely absurd. Sidenote, about 2 miles up the road on Clairemont Drive. There is another Starbucks and I'm learning that their line moves very quickly.
