Pass if you can. Just go to Mighty-O or even 7-11 if you're in the area. This location is extremely inconsistent, particularly if you live nearby and ever stroll over on foot to grab coffee. Over the last few years I've been greeted by totally random store closures, extended periods of time where the pickup window is closed and it's drive thru only, and then today, where the window is open, but they are only accepting mobile orders. That's right, the window is open for pick up, but if you're carrying cash or card and left your phone at home, they literally will not take your order. Thanks guys. What's not to love!! Drive thru is the only way I do Starbucks. Unless I'm at the reserve bar. It's the one and only kind of drive thru I'd do. And for a good reason! The ones made out of containers. It's the coolest. We have a few here now. Coffee in a cargo! Just walk up or drive up! No need for a storefront. Order, in and out in 4 minutes or less. I am always a fan of drive thru coffee places and Starbucks. Yet this location brings down the level you would expect from Starbucks. The way the drive thru is set up off the busy 15th Ave road is sheer frustrating. The narrow entrance getting in and out of the area makes for some tight maneuvering close calls. People with large vehicles makes it even more difficult getting in and out. The only thing nice I can say is that you can see the employees working hard to get through the long lines. They coffee is typical Starbucks same everywhere you go. I know they have had staffing and supply issues like other locations and won't hold that against them. I do wish if they have to close early due to staffing they would put up a cone to block the entrance instead of driving all the way up to the window and seeing ting sign that says closed. read more

I placed a mobile order (I was right across the street) so I expected to wait a few minutes for my drink. The line for the drive thru was at the street but seemed to be slowly moving. There were at least 5 others waiting for their orders. Everyone who went up to the window stated they had mobile orders and was told "about 5 minutes. I kept tabs on how long my order took to get ready via the app and when it claimed to be done I went up to the window to be ahead of them setting it out. A drink similar to mine just got finished and placed near the drive thru area. I stated my name (which I had to repeat) and was told my drink was on deck and will be another 5 minutes. What felt like more than 5 minutes later I finally got my drink. Unfortunately I don't think I will return to this location when they're swapped. While the baristas seem to be calm inside doing their thing I was a little disappointed by the length of additional time I had to wait for a blended drink. In general, this in one of the few cool drive-throughs (safe food interactions) during COVID, and with its good service it is swamped and the cars pile up and logistics on a major arterial are challenging. read more

This is my local Starbucks, and I love it! For starters, since this is my local Starbucks, the staff typically anticipates my drink and will usually get it right. It's always nice to see familiar barista faces when I pass through, which is honestly 1-2 times a day. They are always very friendly and patient with my high-maintenance orders. The location is great but a bit on the small side for a drive-thru (but, thank GOD for the drive-thru), so it can cause some anxiety on the way in and out, especially if the line is backed up. It's located on a very busy street, so just always have your eyes peeled when pulling in and out. I love that this location has a walk-up window, too. On the off-chance that they have gotten my order wrong, it's nice to be able to hop out and get it fixed without having to go through the drive-thru line again. I had Page today as my barista and she was an absolute pleasure!! She took the time to hear out what exactly I was asking for and even suggested to tweak my order a bit and then try it hot (which I will now be going with all winter). She was so sweet, got my order out quickly and overall just had amazing, welcoming costumer service! I've tried out many different Starbucks locations and have never been fully satisfied. She 110% understood the assignment and it was honestly the best made coffee I've had from any Starbucks location. We've all seen that line and how difficult it is to turn left from 15th Ave. NW into this place. Here's my LPT on how to access the drive-thru efficiently (and in three easy steps). 1. Take the first exit off the bridge and turn left onto NW Leary Way. 2. Follow the road until you hit NW Dock Pl. (turn right) until it merges with 17th Ave. NW. 3. Turn right again on NW 53rd St., right again on 15th Ave. NW, and alas another right into the drive-thru. I've been coming to this location on occasion since the one by my place shutdown. Maybe it's the time I drop by, but whoever is on bar--I've always had a well crafted coffee from here. Definitely located in a convenient spot! read more

Because this location is primarily for drive-thru customers, the line can get really long and it takes a while to get through it. Tried this drive through starbucks for the first time, we usually just go to the sit down one on market street. Really disappointed maybe it's because it's a drive through and it just isn't the same quality of service? The line wasn't long only one or two cars infront of us, fast service. However my drink was made with milk when I asked for soy and the barista repeated soy back, so i was left unable to drink it. We also ordered a bagel with cream cheese and after driving away discovered they had given us no knife to spread the cream cheese. Will not be coming back, will just have to go to the drive through by northgate if in a rush next time. read more

I've only had good experiences with the drive thru part of this location, which is the main function, but I took away one star for the walk up window. Two different times the drive through line was full of cars out to the entrance, 10 or so cars, so I opted to park in the spots available directly when you pull in - now if the drive thru and those spaces are full it's incredibly dangerous and awkward when you turn off 15th and can't get your car out of the road. But if you do make it into a space, be prepared that the walk up window takes FOREVER! You will probably be ignored a long while, and then it will take them forever to do your drink (I think you get put in the same drink line as the cars). Both times the car I would have been behind was through before I was leaving. Then you have the second dangerous awkward moment of backing up your car out of the space -towards traffic turning in, or towards the drive through cars coming out, so you can turn around to leave. Not well designed at all. Especially since there is a large grassy area that could have been a safer parking/turn around zone. Drive through - 5 stars (line even when long goes pretty fast) Walk up - 3 stars (would have been 2 but they made my dog a "puppachino" and were very nice even though it took forever! read more

Along with the introduction of Starbucks Evenings store locations across the nation, this new Starbucks is a Drive-Thru/Walk-Up Window store (I love the latter part!). I despised the Ballard Starbucks in Safeway due to the inability to use my iPhone Starbucks card app, while walking to the downtown Ballard location isn't always very convenient. If it weren't for the cars constantly going through the round-about Drive-Thru, I wouldn't have known this location was open... Reason being: It's constructed solely out of shipping containers!! Truly a Ballard look!! The shipping containers have a fun story written on the side of the store: "Why did we build this? Starbucks relies on shipping containers for transportation around the world. We also rely on the planet we all share, and we believe in doing things that are good for each. This means finding solutions that keep things like old shipping containers out of the waste stream. I was driving to work from Everett, and made near record time (only 30 mins to Ballard, what?!). In an effort to delay my arrival at work I made an impromptu visit to this shipping container of a Starbucks. For real, it's made inside a retired shipping container and is perfect for the hipster-ish Ballard area. Usually when I pass this location, it's a gong show in the drive thru with the various commuters stopping to get their morning caffeine fix. Somehow I got lucky and there was nobody in the line - score! The staffer took my order - SUPER friendly in the AM which was actually nice compared to some of the AM zombies one might encounter. I needed a minute before deciding on my drink - and she jokingly (but nicely) said "Don't worry, you can take your time - I'm here until 12:30!". Maybe I was tired, but I genuinely found her to be funny and a nice way to start my morning. By the time I pulled around to the window, she warmly greeted me and we chatted for a bit while the other Starbucks staffer concocted my chai latte. I'll say this chai latte was pretty stellar - just the right temperature (not too hot, but warm enough to drink and stay warm for 30 minutes after I ordered it!) and the spicyness of the chai was on point. While I wish Starbucks would use real chai tea & spices, rather than a flavored syrup to make their drinks, this one still satisfies my craving. Can't wait to try their pumpkin spice latte with REAL PUMPKIN this fall!! read more

Finally, a Starbucks on 15th and a drive-thru! Makes life a lot easier for those on the run, which is basically everybody driving through this corridor. Building is cool, drive-thru is fast, and workers here are so friendly. Only issue is that I've come here a lot and they are either out of a food item we're ordering or make a drink wrong / bad a good chunk of the time. It's so funny that they always repeat the orders back correctly, but whatever gets printed on the drink tag and made is not what the person repeated back to you when you order. :/ Half the time the "bad" drinks that are served could have been solved if they'd just stirred it to mix everything together instead of having all the syrups just sitting at the bottom while you get a mouthful of a burnt-tasting latte. You just have to pull over and stir it yourself and it's usually fine. read more

When SBUX put this location in, I wondered if they'd read my mind regarding wanting a drive thru I could easily access on my way to work. THAT IS WHAT THIS LOCATION IS. Easy access, quick service (generally), and a great team. When the line is looped all the way around, I usually make it through in 12 minutes (which seems okay considering the number of cars that go through here). They've made a couple of drink mistakes which is annoying for a drive thru - nothing grates my cheese like getting a tea instead of a tea latte. Sometimes people do crazy things in the tiny space they have for parking and getting in/out of line. So, watch out of the gynormo SUVs who think they're in a Smart Car. I haven't walked up to this location but it doesn't seem like many people do that anyway. read more

I noticed this drive thru/walk-up Starbucks from the Ballard Brother's parking lot and decided to give it a try. First off, it's one of the most unique Starbucks I've ever visited. The entire place is designed from old trucking containers. They stacked the containers together, painted it, added windows and awnings, and voila....a cool new design for a Starbucks. I ordered a grande caramel macchiato, which tasted great. I went off peak (mid day) so there was no wait and service was good. Warning: The Walk-Up window parking looks like it would be hard to get out of during peak hours ( there is hardly any room to back up and get out). read more

Worst experience at Starbucks ever. New lady works there and makes me feel bad about the food I get and guilty for coming nearly every day. My friend ordered 3 cake pops for us to share and the lady said wow! The list just keeps going! This made my friend feel bad about taking the order on her card. Another time I went to this location 2 days in a row and the new lady working there said wow, it's you... Again in a snarky tone. I love Starbucks and I am a very loyal customer but this experience has made me rethink the amount of money I'm contributing to a company with poor employees. I have been a Starbucks consumer my entire life. This Starbucks has HANDS DOWN the best staff and customer service of any Starbucks I have ever been to. I've been wanting to tell the store manager somehow how impressed I am with every barista I have encountered here! I moved to ballard pretty recently so I was very excited to find out there was a drive through Starbucks nearby. I have come to this location many times, and every time the friendliness of the staff blows me away! If I am waiting in front of the window for my order to finish being prepared, the baristas open the window and just chat with me and ask about my day and what my plans are, etc. I always look forward to driving through! read more

Got there at 6am...so they are supposed to be open. We saw over the course of about 5 minutes 3 baristas who never once looked our way to serve us. The windows were all closed so we had to wave and knock on the glass. One lady glanced our way and we thought, "finally!" But, no. She looked at us and just walked to the back. When we finally decided to drive away, then they looked at us...confused, like they didn't understand why we were leaving. Awful, awful customer service. As a loyal gold card customer of Starbucks for the first time I have truly been let down. I sat in a long line (July 20, 2015 around 9:15 a.m.) with a baby in the back seat at the 5221 15th Avenue NW Ballard, WA location only to be told that they would not honor the coffee refill policy because they have no lobby. I was not able to drive off because of the drive thru barricades so I was forced to wait in the drive thru traffic. When I approached the window after a long wait time I asked them if they could make an exception and the blonde female barista said, "absolutely not." I asked where this policy is listed for the public to see and she said," it's told by the word of mouth." I said,"that is unfair." She then said "well I'm sure it's listed somewhere but I've just been told that's a Starbucks rule." I said "can you make an exception?" and again she said "no". I replied, "This is poor customer service." I have always remained loyal to Starbucks because of their customer service but now this respect has been tarnished by this location's treatment. read more
