A gem in the mountains. One of the best meals we've had! Even if you're just driving through, you need to stop - downtown Lewisburg is only 5 minutes from the Interstate. We stayed the night in Lewisburg on our way home from VA Beach. We drove between the interstate restaurants and downtown a few times debating on where to eat. We finally narrowed our choices between one of the chain restaurants and Stardust; and ended up choosing Stardust keeping with our "no chain dinners while on vacation" rule. We were hesitant while looking at the prices on the online menu, but choosing this restaurant was one of the best decisions we made on this trip. We walked in and asked to be seated. Unfortunately all tables were full, but two spots at the bar were available. The cafe has that perfect small town ambience, with relaxing lighting and a friendly staff. DW got the pesto pasta, which was "fantastic, light" (her words). I chose the curry chicken which was perfectly cooked and moist, with excellent seasoning. The rice and zucchini were perfectly cooked, and the curry and mango sauces complimented everything. We were impressed that the chef was using what appeared to be panini presses to cook the food (the kitchen is just a galley kitchen behind the bar), and that numerous groups of potential walk-in diners were turned away due to lack of available tables - although each were offered take-out, and most accepted. For dessert we ordered the chocolate and coconut cakes. Both were delicious, though my favorite was the chocolate. We noted a hint of dryness on the coconut cake, likely due to it being left in a covered, but not air-tight cake stand on the counter. We would certainly stop here again if ever passing through another time. I even looked at their hours to see if they serve breakfast, so we could stop back on the way out of town - they don't :-( read more

This restaurant really only succeeds because it's in a small town with limited options. Most entree items are fairly expensive for the area ($14+) but would easily be worth it if the quality was better. I ordered the Pesto Pasta which tasted like something I could have made at home. For the buck, Food and Friends is a much better value. Not only do you get much more food at Food and Friends but it's also worth paying the premium for too. Especially not recommended for groups. My party of 15 had no problem paying the ridiculous $600 tab...that is until they told us that they wouldn't divvy up the bill. Even as we came up alternative solutions like dividing the bill between several credit cards, staff continued to refuse our methods and expected either 600 in cash or 1 credit card. Seriously? It's the 21st century even in West Virginia but Stardust seems like the only entity stuck behind the times. Members of my party had to take turns going to an ATM while staff kept making comments like: "Need a calculator?" "How many doctors does it take to figure out a bill?" "I thought doctors were supposed to be rich?" I've traveled across the US and have never seen such disrespect towards patrons as I did at Stardust. I recommend Livery Tavern, Food and Friends, Stella's, Bakery for pizza or 50 East in White Sulphur. read more

Walked in and bought a slice of cake. They called it Birthday Cake (pink icing) When the clerk was ringing it up I could have sworn she said "that'll be two sixty". What a wonderful little place in an old historic town! We were staying up the road at the Greenbrier, and like most guests, after enjoying the Greenbrier, we struck out to have lunch and do some shopping in this quaint little town. Although we'd been told that Stella's was a nice place for lunch, a local suggested Stardust. As we walked up, it didn't look like much, but inside it was a wonderful gem of a place! Salads and sandwiches were unique and fresh and the atmosphere perfect for enjoying the locally sourced food with friends and family. We went back the next day again! This is a very whimsical place that fits right in in Lewisburg. We had the chicken curry and arugula burger. The curry was top notch; slightly spicy with a welcome hint of sweetness. We stopped off during a road trip on a whim because there was a highway sign advertising Lewisburg as "the coolest small town in America 2011." We begged to differ when we got off the highway, but once we got to the old historic part of town, the main street (Washington) really was quite charming. We walked up and down the whole street and picked Stardust because it looked quite friendly. Best impulse restaurant stop I've ever made. We ordered the soup of the day, which was a tomato basil bisque, and the A-ron sandwich. The soup was absolutely perfect---it had real chunks of tomato and perhaps onion in it, which is what made it so perfect. I hate tomato basil bisques where they strain every reminder of its ingredients out of the soup. This one was marvelous. The sandwich was also very tasty. We had the home-made lemonade to drink, which was quite sweet but also satisfyingly tangy---highly recommended. For dessert, we had a chocolate brownie with hot chocolate, and a slice of carrot cake with a cappuccino. The desserts were good, but not as good as the soup. Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and the real feel of neighbors coming together to enjoy the kind of food and ambience that you might not expect from a random town off the highway in West Virginia. Coming after a day in which we were forced to eat McDonald's twice for lack of better options, it's possible that our appreciation of Stardust may have been exaggerated...but I think not. read more

Wow! What a great random discovery. I don't normally go naked when it comes to burgers, but the flavor and quality of the meat stood up to a lack of bun. Really was looking forward to trying this place out. Last time we were in town was during the Greenbrier Classic while moving our son into the "O" school. We couldn't get in so this past weekend I made reservations as soon as we knew we were coming back to town. Everyone was great! Our waitress was Sparrow and she was very informative! Food, taste and presentation were perfect for this foodie! Our meal here on Friday night was much more unique than we had on Saturday at The Greenbrier. I'm always looking for something special and different...so I hit a home run with the Eggplant Curry. The restaurant is not that big so reservations are a must. Price is in line for quality. A delightful find - grateful to Yelp for this one. We had just spent $75 to eat breakfast at the Greenbrier and decided to go off property for lunch. Stardust cafe came up on my yelp app for Lewisburg so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in around 2 pm on a Friday afternoon the restaurant was full. There were two salads sitting out the counter waiting to out to a table - and they looked delicious. I think it was the first time EVER that my mouth was watering over a salad! I had the Lemon pesto salad. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked, lots of leafy greens, a summer ripe tomato, pesto and some other dressing on the side. The folks I was with had a burger - which looked and smelled amazing. My other friend had the BLT with Goat cheese; not your average BLT to be sure, but with all the flavors, it was like nothing I ever tasted before. The chef cooks everything on a George Foreman Type Grill and a Panini press - I'm not sure how he works that magic, but he does. It's not a cheap meal - salad was $12 and burgers were 10 or 11, but everything was fresh and skillfully prepared. We will go back next time we are at the Greenbrier. read more

This time my boyfriend and I both had the Guillano Panino. I love it! I have a hard time ordering anything else. The flavors and textures are sheer perfection! If they offer the black and white bean salad with it, I suggest it! We had the sticky toffee (aka caramel date cake) for dessert. Wow. The flavors were so complex, and the sauce was amazing! But, be warned, it was $12! I highly recommend this cafe. We're locals and frequent it. I have yet to have anything I didn't like. Surprised? Yes I was! We were on a road trip & quite tired of eating at chains. The food was fresh & delicious. Although they do not have a kids menu, my kids shared a burger. No complaints there, 5 minutes later that burger was gone! The service wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. Everything else was great and I would return on special occasions or get something less pricey. Someone posted they dreamed about having the pork shank again. It was very expensive and good but would not be something I ordered again or dreamed about. The dessert was yummy and the balsamic vinegar in their dressing and bread dip is the best i have ever tasted! I went by myself and it was with tip $65 for a glass of wine, dessert and the pork shank meal (one of the pricier meals). This little cafe serves the most delicious, fresh, and generously portioned food! I have brought out of state visitors there every chance I get. Try the Everything Salad, or the Naked Burger salad. Crunchy greens, fresh tomatoes, ripe avocados..the bread is to die for too! Their farm fresh burger really wakes up your taste buds to ask "what have you been feeding me?" Cozy environment.
