This is a really good place to eat, it has a retro vibe and the Staff, if young are very good at the job, social distance is still in effect, but it dampen the experience. Friday & Saturday they have Prime rib it's a special, and OMG good. but they have Beer Batter onion rings, Fish & chips (Tasty) also have the standard faire Burgers w/bacon (Haven't had one, BUT, it looked ssooo good) Monte Cristo sandwich is a good choice. I came to this 50s style diner with my sister for breakfast. We both love the Americana cafés and neither of us were disappointed. Anyone can make a decent pancake, but a great waffle can be hard to come by. Stardust diner knocked it out of the park! Their waffle, which both my sister and I enjoyed, was light, yet hearty and cooked to perfection. The guy next to us at the bar was enjoying a chicken fried steak topped with some thick ass gravy and looking like it was made in Texas. Our server told us that's one of their biggest sellers there (pun intended). The weekday morning we came, the diner was filled with patrons and almost as many servers, busboys and cooks. Needless to say the service was great, when we needed something they were right there. After finishing our eggs, bacon, waffle combos, we both considered getting a milkshake to go (we had been sitting right in front of the shake machine and seen several made while we were eating), but didn't. Don't get me wrong, the shakes looked great, hand made with real ice cream and all sorts of seasonal flavours. This way we have yet another reason to return. read more

Ok, so let's set the scene. Usually, I go to the Plainsmen. It's right across from my apartment, the people are very nice, and the price to quality ratio is on point. But today I wanted to branch out, try something new, and I was left disappointed. I got an all Chuck bacon Cheeseburger, with tater tots in a Coke. 1st off the Burger. Chuck is very fatty grind of beef. it's hard to dry out a fatty Burger. But these people really put their shoulder into it. You are left with a Gray, chewy malformed smear of shoe leather. I'm fairly certain that the bacon was left over from breakfast and had similar overcooked, bland, charred qualities and textures. 2nd thing was the tater tots Seriously dude, 13 tater tots? Or at least you can't mess those up. My roommate had an open face chili Burger, Pretty much same problems with meat, And their homemade chili was unimpressive. They have all the Necessary ingredients to be great and unique. They just need to stop hiring high school students as waiters, and get somebody in the kitchen who cares about what they're doing. Very nice back in the day diner. They have a juke box which has a lot of favorite oldies but goodies to chose. The menu has a large selection of entrees. It also has many flavors of milkshake to chose from. I truly enjoyed my meal and the service. read more

We have never had bad service at Stardust until now. the staff is usually always fantastic, but this evening we were not greeted, and the hostess that did seat us, slams the menus-walks away behind the counter, slams the pitcher of water. and at that point we walked away to leave, however I felt that someone should know about the girl who was absolutely RUDE, so I turned back around to ask who was in charge this evening. I believe his name was Dustin/Justin who of course did not see any of this unprofessional behavior but he stated that he would speak to her. the girl stood there and never gave an apology, never looked up to acknowledge. she did NOTHING !!! we will NEVER EVER come back to this place. Friend had them last time here and said they were better then I had halibut fish and tatter tots with cornbread and sting beans. The fish and tatter tots were excellent. The cornbread good. This place is adorable. A step back in time to a 50's diner. They even have those little jukeboxes at each table. But let's be real - we are here for the food....and it didn't disappoint. I had the Hawaiian burger which was cooked perfectly, had lots of tasty teriyaki sauce and a big slice of pineapple. I order the Hawaiian burger at any restaurant that has one and this was a top 5 contender for sure. It was massive, juicy, and delicious. Actually a trash restaurant. Waiter forgot my friends girlfriends food. I got 2 cups of milkshake when I'm actually on a diet. Floors are actually worse than most ghetto movie theaters. Menus are from the pits of hell, they are harder to use than a Chinese knockoff of an Ikea desk. Ketchup was drier than the Sahara desert, not acceptable. They gave me a refill and didn't take my old cup. They dropped my friends milkshake cherry which was not cool. Overall pretty solid tho read more

The restaurant is a bright and cheerful blast from the past, with sleek 50's style decor and music. Our waiters and other staff have always been attentive and friendly, and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. The portions are generous and everything is usually cooked perfectly and tasty. Breakfast is served all day alongside lunch and dinner and we've enjoyed everything we've tried, especially the spinach omelette, which had a perfect mix of cheese, mushrooms, and spinach. The salad is fresh and crisp, and the vegetable beef and barley soup is especially tasty. The mushroom swiss burger is juicy and full of flavor, and the country fried steak is tender and crispy and goes well with the flavorful country sausage or brown gravies. Not sure why this place doesnt have a 5 star overall. We are from San Diego on vacation and we happen to notice this diner across from our hotel and we cant find enough words to describe the amazing experience we just had. The place, vibe and decor is all authentic with its theme. All the employees are working non stop the whole time and theyre all welcoming and super friendly. The food quality, flavor, portions are simply amazing!!! And the prices is like going back in time cause no where in San Diego can you find such delicious food and service with these prices!! DELICIOUS FOOD! WONDERFUL SERVICE!! (Yes there can be a wait time to be seated but is Sunday morning so we were expecting a 1 hour wait and it was just 20 min). I LOVE STARDUST! This restaurant literally stopped in time in the 60's. The detail in this "mom and pop" sock hop type diner is fantastic... from the 60s era coke signs and framed newspaper clippings down to the jukebox and signature turquoise booth seats is a crowd pleaser that your family will love. On top of that the food is a great value and always delicious! My personal favorites are their burgers and their mix and match breakfast menu, and I must rave about their toast ( I know it seems silly to comment about toast) but the freshness and quality of this bread is outstanding and very noticeable as soon as you bite into it! ( or maybe I'm just a weird toast fanatic, who knows?) Equally Important their staff is always very welcoming and the wait is never long but always worth it on those busy weekends. My first time visiting this diner. I've heard great things about this place and thought I should try it out with my family. When I walked in I liked the decor and then I went to the bathroom to wash my hands before I sat down! Yuck! The sink and mirror were filthy! Come on, I'm sure there's some cleaner around to clean that!! Ok, so we ordered our food. It came out pretty fast. Food was cold, even though I asked our server to please make sure it was hot. The eggs were over cooked. The biscuits were hard. I look around to see if I can find my server to at least warm up my food in the microwave, nowhere to be found. My family at that point is hungry and starts eating. I finally flag down someone, she warms up my meal, ok it's edible now. Still no sign of our server. The stars go to our busser Danny who was very attentive and brought us coffee refills and boxes. At last the server shows up, drops off the check without asking us if everything was ok!! We only saw her three times!! When she took our order, brought out our food and at the end to give us our check! She never stopped by to check on us to see if everything was ok! Thank goodness for Danny or else we wouldn't even have a coffee refill!! Also they really need to train their cooks on how to cook over easy eggs!! Our yolks were hard as a rock!! Even on the poached eggs!! Going back? No I don't think I will!! What a shame!! read more

I have been to Stardust numerous times. I even taken my son there. The food is good. However, today I had an issue with a takeout order. I ordered Beef Tips. I was told the order would be ready in twenty minutes which worked out well for me. As I was speaking with a friend. After which, I arrived at Stardust to pick up my order. I had to be home to receive an important phone call within a short time period. I walked up to the counter and asked for my order. I got this "Deer in the Headlight' look from the counter person. A short time later, another employee walked up and said the order had been thrown out. They said they throw out orders over an hour old. I ordered the food at approximately, 6:50 PM and was told it would be ready in twenty. I arrived at Stardust just before 8:00 PM. Well within their time window which I was not aware of. One of the employees stated there would have been water on top of the food container and they were sorry. At which point, they told me it would be ten minutes for the order. I told the employees due to the nature of my previous employment. I had eaten food I've orders over 12 hours old. The counter person said the order would be $7.50. I pulled out my card and told him I would pay for the order which was thrown out. However, I had no time to wait for the new order. They would not take my card because I had canceled the order. I immediately pulled out a $20.00 and placed it on the counter and left. This because I have a long standing rule about my previous employment and perceptions. Pretty good food, super cute atmosphere. I got the steak skillet and wasn't blown away, it was really stingy on the meat :/ it was mostly potatoes under that egg. My husband got the chicken sandwich, it was pretty good. The clam chowder was the best, super bomb. Service was great, our guy was super nice! read more

My dad and I used to come here all the time when I was a kid. It's a cute little dinner with a fun atmosphere, good for kids, but the food was better a few years ago... Had the eggs benedict to go this time. My friend had the same thing and we shared some chilli fries(I'm aware that's a really weird combination lol) The food was really meh. The poached eggs were cooked to rubber(see my picture). Poached eggs should be runny when you cut them open! A solid rubbery poached egg is practically a sin! The hollandaise was bland, it needed some seasoning or lemon juice. The ham was ok. Hash browns weren't freezer burned but tasted like they'd been frozen a quite a while and had no seasoning at all. I guess I'd eat it again but my boyfriend makes this dish 10x better and he hardly cooks! Our chili fries were just unseasoned, crinkle cut, freezer fries with a little melted cheddar and a plain old can of heated up chili dumped on top. No part of our meal really felt like there was any effort put into it. read more

No stars was a good place at one time we just left it had the meat loaf and wife had the fish and chips My wife asked for cocktail shrimp on the sale was given 6 side shrimp on a stick and charged 6.99 ? she asked for it on the salad not a side the salads came when the dinner did bad idea the food I got was cold even the corn and the roll was cold the waiter with the ring in his nose as he did not say his name served us but we had to ask host for help as he was too busying try to get orders then to finish with ones he already had he also charged for a small cup of blue cheese to my wife to dip her onions rings in they did not do that before charge that I will never go back we will go to the black bear dinner instead too bad again it used to be a good place I guess places change or they don't train there staff now I will have to microwave my meal to get it to the food handlers book temp again it if I could I would be placing no stars instead of one read more

I am so disappointed with the food we ordered. My husband had the meatloaf dinner. The meatloaf was dry and very hard to cut into. It also had pieces of ground bone in the meat. The mashed potatoes were runny.Everything was covered with a thick gravy with no flavor. I ordered a French dip. The special of the day added onion and cheese. I chose the special. The roast beef tasted funny and the fries were baked. We really were looking forward to our meal. My vanilla shake was good and my husband's root beer was good. read more

If you like old school 50's charm and decor then Stardust is 5 stars all day long, however, the menu is huge which for me means that the food is usually not as great as it could be. Which was definitely the case here. This is not to say that the food is bad.....just ok, and as I've said in some of my other reviews....ok is just not good enough in this area filled with amazing dining options. Come here for the ambiance and charm, but if you're wanting to really impress someone there are better places to go for an overall dining experience. read more

This is a legit diner! The service is very good (very nice polite young folks working the floor). The chicken fried steak was better than most places, my milk shake was excellent and they bring out the remainder in the stainless steel container it is made in. My GF had fried chicken that looked awesome. Our daughter had a chocolate chip pancake that she devoured in minutes! The portions are generous and prices are reasonable. read more

The Stardust Diner is mediocre... you know where sometimes you love the food and service and other times you're like, "I'm never coming back!"? This is like that. Went here for breakfast with my mom and Jerry at their recommendation. On the weekends it is best to get here before 9:00 am to avoid the crowds. We arrived at about 8:35 am on Sunday and still had to wait about 10 minutes, but the staff is super friendly and efficient. You never feel like they could have done better. Mom says the coffee here is very weak so we all got the fresh-squeezed orange juice. Everybody liked their breakfast except mom. She ordered a senior lunch - grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn - and said the chicken was over cooked. All in all, great food, very good prices, great staff. read more

Stepping inside, it really feels like you're taken back in time to some 50's diner. Tons of vintage memorabilia (mostly magazine covers) adorn the wall. Heck, there was some jukebox contraption at the booth my friend and I sat at. There's a lot of traditional diner fare to choose from. Blue-starred items are basically Stardust's most popular offerings. Although we arrived around 11:30, my stomach craves breakfast virtually 24/7. Luckily, breakfast is served all day here. I opted for the three-egg Denver omelet ($8.29) with the usual diced ham, cheddar, onions, and green bell peppers. Hash browns and whole wheat toast on the side. I honestly didn't have very high expectations coming in, but everything was pretty good. A hearty portion for yours truly. Pretty generous amounts of ham, onions, and bell peppers, all cooked nicely. I would have liked a bit more cheese here, though. The eggs were cooked well, perhaps just a tad too long in the pan for me. I'm sure it would be fine for just about everyone else. Favorable reviews on the hash browns. Crispy exterior, lightly seasoned, nicely done. Maybe a bit too much butter on my toast, but hell, I ate it anyway. My friend enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger, crinkle fries, and a soda (appears to be unlimited free refills). It sure looked like a quality burger to me, and the hypnotizing bacon made me just want to reach across the table and devour that plate too. Bad panda, no biscuit for you. Stardust runs regular specials and also has a tantalizing dessert menu. And I saw a sugar-free option (Chocolate Mousse Torte) for when I want to gorge on something sweet and not feel so guilty!
