    Open Face Turkey Sandwich

This is the epitome of the quintessential retro 1950s cafe! We landed here late one night after doing a retro-themed escape room. We grabbed a bite before ending our festivities. The Stardust is exactly on the inside what you expect to get by looking at the outside. You're greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated. The diner menu is 100% all-American quisine. Burgers, Fries, Open-Face sandwiches, milkshakes, the works. The tables and decore match the theme of the era. The staff is responsive and friendly. The prices are a bit high but I imagine they're struggling to keep the doors open with all the hustle and bustle around them likely trying to push them out of the corporate giant's way. If ever on the east side of Vancouver, give them a try. Well worth your time to go have a good ole diner meal!

I've driven by this place many times and never stopped because there was always a line out the door. I was alone so figured it would be easier to get a seat at the bar. I went in around 10:00 in the morning during the week and it was quite busy. The service is very good and they are very attentive at refilling coffee. The portions here are massive and the food was very tasty. You can customize almost anything which I really appreciated. It does seem like a hangout place for some of the seniors in the community, so the food does benefit from a bit of seasoning.

Love the tin ceiling and retro counter and stools.

Ok so the food was so good that we ate and forgot to take pics! But my daughter and I often share country fried steak...BUT here it's Chicken Fried steak and when I say best GRAVY ever- I have had a lot! Absolutely loved it and the steak was still crunchy underneath. The home style potatoes were super crispy and yummy. Our Server Rachel was attentive and super sweet. We live in San Diego but are here for friend's wedding- and would definitely come here again on next visit.

Ms Bree our waitress is a bubbly person who is always positive and kind. Our food is always served hot not cold. The food is delicious it takes me back to my youth. The service, food and ambiance is great! 50s! I recommend it here!!

My parents live really close and we pass it all the time. They have friends who say it's good so why not. We came for breakfast. I got the country fried steak. It passed the fork test. I should be able to eat it with just a fork. Very tender and a decent sized piece. Something was missing though. Like seasoning in both the gravy and the steak. My brother got the blueberry pancakes. They were ok. Definitely artificially colored blueberry sauce. But sometimes that's what you want. It definitely checks the boxes of a fifties type diner. Service was very friendly and helpful. Just not really food I would be coming back for.

Growing up on the East Coast and living in the South, I am a huge fan of diners, and Stardust Diner definitely did not disappoint. Fast service, delicious food, and those classic jukeboxes create the perfect mix of nostalgia and a great meal. The Redneck Benedict was absolutely addictive, and the portions are massive--just as tasty the second time around. The spinach omelette with. crispy hashbrowns was amazing too. Sitting at the counter was a fun, almost ethereal experience. Plus, there's plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. You will not walk away hungry.

Solid breakfast spot, been going here easily the last 15 years. For breakfast the food is good. Dinner and lunch is hit or miss. With that said it's still definitely worth it. It has all the basic diner staples for all meals 9f the day. The prices are incredible, easily the lowest in Vancouver. It has a 1950's and older theme. You can play music at your table and there is a jukebox (Look it up kids) in the entry way. The service is fast and has been great everytime I've been there. If you live in Vancouver and haven't checked it out you are missing a great spot. It's also great for families with younger kids. It's loud with a mix of different types of people.

My sister and I decided to split it, and the restaurant went above and beyond by plating it on two separate plates for us. The photos show our individual portions--and that's only half each! It really shows how generous the serving size is. The service was excellent, and our server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd want from a steakhouse: comfortable, welcoming, and not too loud, making it easy to enjoy dinner and conversation. Everything was cooked perfectly, and we really appreciated the extra touch of splitting the meal for us. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!

I would prefer something a little bit more done. But their steaks definitely do not disappoint. I have been to other steak houses in the Portland area. Roots beats other famous Portland steak houses by their flavor, tenderness, service, atmosphere and portion size. However, their menu items are quite pricey. My steak was nicely cooked and seasoned. The mashed potato and veggies were excellent. They topped the steak with couple pickled onion rings which was quite refreshing. And don't forget the garlic infused butter served with the steak. It was wonderful. I had my wedge salad while my husband had their soup of the day. It was a big salad which Ai appreciate. The blue cheese crumbles and salad dressing was fantastic. The chocolate mousse dessert was a piece of art. It was quite big and can be easily shared with another person. The atmosphere inside was nice and modern in a warm sense. The servers were very attentive. I am not sure what brand of root beer do they serve but it was very good.

The portions are ginormous, so if you're not a big eater, there's more than enough to share a meal. My daughter and I shared the Shasta Scramble and even between the two of us only ate about 2/3 of it. It was very good and we had the thick cut hashbrowns as our side which we both enjoyed. The biscuit came with this is what we called a "cat's head" biscuit in the south...very big, and even better with butter and honey. It's been years since eating at a Black Bear franchise- last one was in Arizona. Feels like it's tired and it needs refreshing- the atmosphere and the menu. Our food came out much too quickly- Meaning it's all pre- prepared and sitting in warming dishes like a buffet. And, it was buffet quality- bland and lackluster in flavor. The biscuit portion is just too much and it dwarfed the eggs and poor quality bacon. Last time here.

Having been to places like Leavenworth and Mt. It was only today, when my boss took our department out to lunch here, was I reminded of how many things Gustav's does right, despite being a chain restaurant. The first reminder came in the form of the interior décor; I forgot how charming it is here: from the entrance to the bar and to the dining halls, there are few restaurants in Vancouver as immediately evocative and immersive in their aesthetics. Our server was friendly, welcoming and helpful in her suggestions, particularly for those members of our party to whom German cuisine is very unfamiliar. The food, by and large, is excellent, although the prices are a bit steep for some of the offerings: for example, the goulash is tied for the most expensive item on the menu, along with the Bavarian Feast. One of these dishes makes sense for the price point; the other does not. It's hard to go wrong with the feast, the wurst platter (in any combination), or any of the schnitzels, but sadly, the Kohlrouladen that I ordered (one of my absolute favorites) didn't quite live up to the high bar set by the same dish at Baren Haus in Leavenworth. The two rounds of fondue with sausage that we ordered as an appetizer were well-received (and thoroughly ravaged) by our party of eight in record time! And although I didn't partake (as I have a negative sweet tooth), a trio of desserts finished off our group's meal, and left everyone satisfied. Overall, Gustav does far more right than I remembered, or gave them credit for. Other than my nitpicks about one particular entrée, and some questionable pricing, everything else about Gustav's punches far above its weight class, especially when considering the fact that it is a chain. By that metric, they have no business being as fantastic as they are! With a couple of tweaks, such as a firmer commitment to embracing German authenticity, and toning down the prices a bit, Gustav's will absolutely have a lock on that fifth star that lies just barely outside their reach.
