I always love the old time personal service at the vintage diners. And Stardust has that charm in spades. I was immediately taken back to my youth and going to these diners with my dad. The food was phenomenal and you sure get your moneys worth. I had to try one of their specialty's, meatloaf and mashed potatoes. From the first bite to the last it was great. Great spot. We discovered Stardust while in Vancouver for an extended visit from our home in California. This place has a great menu with a wide variety and all items are served all day. The staff is friendly and eager to offer helpful and smiling service, it's obvious they all work together to create a well-oiled machine of service. This place is OK. The ambiance is kinda fun. It's a retro vibe. The signature burger they told me were fresh, but tasted like frozen. The sweet potatoes-hard pass, weren't cooked long enough for a crisp, but more like a solid only just cooked kinda vibe. The breakfast I've had here was good. When you get a salad, the person there takes a scoop that sits inside it and uses their bare hand to scoop all around inside the container. I first thought it was his bare hand. But, there is in fact a tiny scoop. I asked after I saw him swirling around in it. But, after watching this employee touch their face and hair and everything else and then the scoop and twirl it around knowing that more croutons would be poured in later...on top of a dirty hand that just went in.. I hadn't been there in 2 years and was shocked how it went down hill in that time away. My sister ordered the halibut sandwich, it was cold and uncooked in the middle. They did replace the sandwich, but she lost her appetite to eat the next one. We were not offered refills on our waters or asked if everything was okay. They did give 6 dollars off the meal. With a neon sign out front, blue booths, a silver ceiling, and mini jukeboxes at the tables, this place definitely screams diner. I felt like I was eating at a restaurant from Back to the Future. The staff are high school aged students, and the clientele seems like regulars that the staff knows by name. My server had numerous tables the first time I visited, and he was hustling to meet everyone's needs. I tried the Special Country breakfast that comes with eggs, bacon or sausage, and a biscuit with gravy. A great portion, very reasonably priced, but definitely a greasy spoon meal. I ordered food to go here after work. The person on the phone was friendly and the food was ready very quickly. The salad was a simple, diner style of salad but still tasty and the dressing was rich and creamy. The burger was delicious! The bacon was thick and flavorful and the patty was well seasoned. With the cheddar cheese, everything came together for a great burger. The onion rings were another win! Super savory and the onion did not slip out of the breading on the first bite. The only negative wasn't their fault, but something I recount here as a tip/warning. I live about 20 minutes from this restaurant, and in that time, the heat of the burger made the bun a bit soft and soggy on the bottom. Again, not the restaurant's fault at all, but something to keep in mind when ordering takeout. The atmosphere inside and out was awesome! The building is all shiny metal and neon and the inside is redolent of mid-century Americana. I would love to know if the building is from that time, or just made to look that way. It was my first visit the the Stardust Diner. I've driven by thousands of times in the past- today while visiting town we went in for breakfast! It's got a darling 1950s vibe throughout the diner with a nostalgic jukebox and all the trimmings to make you feel like you stepped back in time. Our server Rachel was personable and very friendly! We ordered our breakfasts and shortly afterwards they arrived! Our meals were hot and tasty! We loved that the walls were lined with old magazine ads from the past as well! If you love 50's diners, this is the place for you. The menu is a short novel, the service is spectacular, the portions are bigger than anyone should ever eat in one sitting and the prices are super reasonable. I came around noon on a Saturday and the waiting area was packed. I had already planned on ordering takeout, but was extra relieved with my decision when I saw the number of people waiting. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs (breakfast serving) and then asked to sub out the toast/biscuit for pancakes instead. The amount of food I got was way too much for just one meal! Whoever packed the food was thoughtful and separated out the gravy from the chicken fried steak so it wouldn't be soggy by the time I got it home. We've been driving past this bright shiny building for years and always wanted to stop, but always saw a line or was just passing through the area, darn were we dumb for not stopping sooner!! The food is amazing this place has breakfast, lunch, and dinner available whenever you feel like it. The old timey diner feel is carried well throughout the restaurant with its table top juke boxes and old Hollywood posters. We had different plan for breakfast but ended up here. It was busy & took about 25-30 mins for a table for 2. We were seated & order taken. It was coke products but their C02 needed to be refreshed. Our order arrived & it had great presentation but it was Luke warm & flavor wasn't there. There was condiments on the table but had requested syrup - twice - for the pancakes but never got. There was a lot of waitstaff but our server was all over the place & although attentive when food was initially delivered, wasn't able to follow thru to our table. This place definitely takes you back in time! The food was decent, service was great! We got some breakfast items, milkshakes, and it sandwiches, and they were all good, but nothing special. I would say this was probably the worst club sandwich I've ever had, which was really disappointing. The milkshakes were amazing! Thick and you got an extra tin with it. They did have a pretty good wait for a Tuesday dinner time, but it was packed so that says something good about the food. If you like Americana and 50's diners definitely give this place a try for breakfast. This place gets packed quick so the earlier you get there the better. They have a decent selection and their prices are phenomenal. Generally the food is good. Service can vary depending on your server, however, when you get a good one they can be absolutely the best! Way beyond expectations! I had a large party of 11 during a busy Saturday morning and the staff was on top of it. It had a really cool 50's feel and tons of retro decor that was fun to view and chat about while we waited on food. The food was excellent! My family from out of state decided that every time they come to visit, this is where they want to go for a new tradition. It was mind boggling how affordable our entire tab was. My wife and I decided we didn't feel like going out this evening - but didn't feel like cooking, either. We kicked around a couple ideas and finally we decided we have always loved the Stardust Diner's food and service, so we decided to order out. Timeliness: Awesome. Food was ready when promised. Attention to detail: Oops. Mom wanted a Cobb salad with blue cheese crumbles and blue cheese dressing on the side. Not only did she not get dressing with her salad, she didn't get crumbles. The "American Cheese" was processed cheese...Velveeta in a salad just doesn't hit it. Not getting what you ordered and getting surprise ingredients in the rest = major let down. Not to mention we turned out to be out of blue cheese dressing in the pantry, so mom totally lost out. I ordered meat loaf and mashed potatoes. The food was great, but I also was missing part of my meal (no veggies). Our meal was only $25 and some change, but when the order is incomplete/wrong it was disappointing. Service: Your staff was quick and polite and took my payment and had me out the door in less than 5 minutes. Ambiance: We like the restaurant and decor! Bottom line: Not a total fail, but below the consistently GREAT service Stardust Diner has always given us. Stardust Diner is a great fifties-style diner. The atmosphere is spot-on (says me who was born in the seventies, so my assessment may be off), the wait staff is very friendly and helpful, and the prices are surprisingly low. The quality of the food is better than expected. The meatloaf was tasty, the burgers were big and good, and the milk shakes and malts were REALLY good. The only reasons for not getting five stars were that the sides I ordered were not what was served, and the place was so busy that our waitress didn't make it back to check in on us for quite some time. The food, while good, is not spectacular. One particularly noteworthy and appreciated item was our waitress's honesty and recommendations. My son ordered the chicken pot pie, and she'd asked if he'd had it before. When he said he hadn't, she explained that it is really salty, only has a top crust, has a slice of cheese on it, and that she really doesn't recommend it. This staved off a potential huge disappointment :) If you're in the neighborhood, I'd definitely recommend stopping in. read more

Stardust diner is such a bargain! They have great food comparable to a lot of the other breakfast diners around the East Vancouver area. However, their pricing is far better. Just take a look at their menu. I personally like their country fried steak as it is done very crispy. I have had some of their sandwich offerings too and they are also very tasty and highly recommended. Service is excellent as their whole staff works together. You don't get to really know a server but you get your food faster. So I guess this balances out? All in all, highly recommended. Great for your wallet. The Stardust Diner caught our eye with the stunning neon exterior. I wish the owners could install some better lighting in the parking lot, because you park in back and walk around the side to the entrance, and when it's dark and rainy it's not a welcoming walk. Inside is as gorgeous as the outside, with a stamped tin panel ceiling and silver and blue booths. I appreciate that they have partitions between them that allow for privacy and a quieter dining experience. We arrived at 7:30 pm on a weeknight and it wasn't very busy. However, it took a few moments for the hostess to figure out where to seat us. Still off to a good start. We got menus and drinks quickly and our app came out at lightning speed. My mozzarella sticks were cooked perfectly - which is nice given how often you get them so overcooked that they're cheese-free. Our meal was off to a great start. My son eats grilled cheese and fries everywhere he goes and it was no different there. They were okay - but it's a pretty easy meal to do well. There were so many different choices on the menu that it took us a while to decide what to get. I ended up getting grilled ham, a baked potato, and mixed vegetables with a dinner roll. The ham was grilled with just a bit of browning on each side and was totally delicious. The potato was also good and I appreciate that they served it with whipped butter. The veggies were cooked until they were mushy but the green beans had some bite left to them, but they needed some seasoning. The roll had a bit of sweetness to it, which isn't my liking. I should have thought about that beforehand! My husband ordered roast turkey with mashed potatoes and that was delicious. It might have been the best tasting turkey I've ever had, almost as if it was marinated. It was flavorful, thick cuts, and super juicy. It's been a couple of days since we were there and he's still thinking and talking about his turkey meal. After dinner we decided to order milkshakes, and this location has a wonderful flavor variety that includes coffee, butterscotch, hot fudge, and raspberry. I went with chocolate, my husband always gets strawberry, and our son picked cookies and cream. They were decent, but the cookies and cream one was amazing and tasted like an Oreo. I wish I had ordered that flavor instead. I was a bit concerned after coming on Yelp and seeing that the diner has had health code violations in the past, but we didn't have any issues after eating there. Our waiter was very nice, but it seemed like overall the staff was having an off night. I think there were four or five people who brought us food and drinks and took our order and they all seemed unfriendly. I used the restroom before we left and was surprised to see that the mirror above the sink was shattered on the floor. It was swept to the side in a large pile with a wet floor cone near it. As I put on my coat I mentioned it to my husband, who said there was the same thing in the men's restroom. I asked a server who said that new mirrors had just been installed but both of them had fallen off. That's weird and I'm sure it scared the staff, but why was the glass just left there? Seems hazardous. Thank goodness it was a wet and cold January and nobody was likely to be wearing open toed shoes. read more
